I just finished this game , for probably the 8th time (3rd since coming to steam) and I will say I still love it , do not remember the full plot or answers for any of the elements.
In my opinion, this is one of the better Nancy Drew games from the franchise's later era. My favorites are (and always will be) games 3-13, but this one really stands out as something unique. It is the first (and only) game to take place in River Heights, Nancy's hometown, and as such, we get a more intimate look at Nancy's personal life and a better understanding of the way the people in her community perceive her. Spoiler alert: it's not good! In fact, most of the townsfolk see her as a spoiled goody-two-shoes and would love nothing more than to see her get knocked down a few pegs. And someone attempts to do just that. The game begins with Nancy escaping a burning building, which she is then framed for starting. So not only are the stakes of the mystery pretty high, it's also VERY personal. I enjoyed exploring River Heights and getting to hear everyone talk about how much they hate Nancy (it's hilarious), the puzzles are super fun, AND you get to play as Nancy, Bess, George, and Ned, all of whom are working in tandem to prove Nancy's innocence. Is it perfect? No. Is it on my top ten list? Probably not. But it's still pretty great. Oh, and Deirdre and Alexei are fantastic characters, two of the best in the franchise, honestly.
Quite possibly my new favorite ND game. I really enjoyed the story-line, characters, puzzles, and setting of this one. I really liked getting to swap out who I played as and being able to interact differently with other NPCs depending on who I was playing as. It was an engaging story and I was guessing who the real culprit was right up until it's revealed. It was really fun. The puzzles weren't so hard I constantly had to look up the answers either, which was really refreshing. I can't recommend this one enough!!
10/10. A goodie
My second playthrough and I think it's a good instalment in the ND series. Some things left unanswered, and the puzzles could be tricky. If you miss one small thing, it's easy to get stuck. It's a fun mechanism being able to play different characters, but the back and forth at the beginning can get tedious.
Fun adventure game in the vein of the other Nancy Drew games.
I love the Nancy Drew games been playing them for a number of years now I definitely recommend all the games to adults and children. I recently introduced my daughter to the games as well and she loves them. The games are fun immersive with just a little challenge. The story's always great and fun to play through.
This is my second Nancy Drew game after playing Danger on Deception Island as a kid, and unfortunately, it doesn't really compare. In Alibi, having to switch between characters was really tedious, there were repetitive interviews, and not as many puzzles/mini-games as I would've liked. I don't understand why there was a massive map with rabbit hole locations when you end up spending the whole game at 4 locations. Feels like an attempt to deliberately waste my time and make the game feel longer rather than having to add more content. Ultimately this game was more like a point-and-click, combing for hidden objects. Sad there wasn't more care taken on this since the premise was really interesting, taking place in Nancy's own hometown. Maybe I'm not familiar enough with the franchise to appreciate the references? oh well
Really fun story. Except how for some reason you need to body-swap to nancy to be able to swap between friends that was oddd.?
It is not my favorite ND game, but the puzzles/games were pretty fun; I imagine if I hadn't played the swap-a-lot game continuously, I may have finished this quicker. The story is ok, but can't deny I felt really bad for Bess when I kept making her try ice cream (and then I didn't even get the ice cream award after eating them all!).
As far as Nancy Drew games go, I found Alibi in Ashes to be annoyingly frustrating. Personally, I hated having to constantly switch between characters in order to progress in the game. I felt like there weren't as many puzzles and most of them were not fun. And those tunnels? Ugh. The story itself was not exciting to me, either. As a fan of these games since they came out back in the early 2000s, I find there to be much better ones especially for any first time players. Sidenote: I played as Senior Detective.
im addicted
While it was really fun switching people around a lot, I thought it was really short and all ran kinda quickly. However they stay true to ND games and gave us a horrible end game with tunnels that took forever lol
8/10, Loved playing as team danger ;) but some of the steps were a little frustrating and the last puzzle really got me. Overall recommend (though there's no shame in using a walkthrough when you get stuck)
i absolutely loved it. puzzles were so easy
