honestly, i will always have a soft spot for this game, my mom used to set me up on the family computer and i would play it for hours. i would ask to play it over and over again until it was no longer available as a flash game through facebook and yahoo games. i was very sad when it went away and i couldn't find it. It's wonderful to have it back and for me, personally, it still holds up as a fun, relaxing game... besides when your fish pass away when you don't play for awhile, oops sorry fishes.
Addictive.
fun and i like this
Ahhhh the nostalgia
This game was my childhood. This game is now also my adulthood. My fish tank will be perfect.
I used to play this game way back in the day as a kid, mostly now I just let it run so my cat has something fun to watch, he absolutely LOVES it.
A review from a close friend in my steam family:
For a game made in 2005, it's held up incredibly well. I didn't think I'd get as hooked on Fish Tycoon as I am now; I played the demo of it when I was maybe 6-7, and I thought it was just one of those games that you have a lot of nostalgia for, but ultimately set down after half an hour.
...Yeah, uh, that's not happening here.
The gameplay loop is simple, but that's what makes it so addicting. Feed your fish, care for them, breed them to get new fish, sell 'em in your store, and if you hit the perfect fish combo you get one of the seven Magic Fish (the in-game McGuffin). There's a bit of resource management in there too - via keeping an eye on your money as you buy stuff for your fish, level up your knowledge on their environment and food, etc - but 90% of Fish Tycoon revolves around the breeding aspect. And let me tell you, it's got me hooked.
Fish Tycoon's an idle game, meaning everything generally progresses in real time; the game even says "staring at your fish won't make them grow up faster" at the beginning. I've been opening the game like, five times a day, just to check on the little guys and see what new and unusual fish I've gotten this time. (Learn from me: if you're going to be away from the game for a while, make sure you set the in-game time in the Options to "Stop Time" until you can log back in. Trust me on this.) I've found three of the Magic Fish, and I think I'm almost at the right combo for another.
Now, this game is made in 2005, and there might be a few technical bugs here and there. For one thing, I've had 0 luck with the Full-Screen option; it gets stretched out and gross on one of my monitors, and it completely borks the colors on another. It's a game that's meant to be played on the Windowed option in the background, anyway, so that's not exactly the end of the world. If you have nostalgia for this game, or just looking for a casual idle game about breeding fish, this is a really nice time-waster.
Last Day of Work does offer the full version of this game for free on their official website, but honestly it's worth the money to support them. I got my copy via Steam Family, but frankly I'm considering buying a copy myself just to support the devs. Pick this up on sale (or don't; it's ten bucks offsale, and frankly I think that's a really good price for something this in-depth).
Simple game that's great for idle/background play and killing time. I loved this game as a kid and it hasn't lost its charm.
The game gives you good information about fishes and you can see through all the life cycle of decorative fish.
There are fish and you can breed them for cool combos. I used to have a notebook where I'd wrote out every combo I discovered as a kid.
In a word it sucks
My fav genres are (in order from the most to the least) adventure, racing, shooting, puzzle, time management and some simulation I have a special place in my heart for the old arcade(Qbert and Centipede) as well as Last Day of Work creations which brings me to this game.
I tell you, my fellow gamers, so you can understand I'm not being unfair to write a negative review after playing less than an hour. The problem is the high priced items in it's "supply store" does not sync with the profit you make in your "business." In order to be better equipped you need to spend an outrageous amount of money yet your product, the fish, are sold at an outrageously low price preventing you from making a profit so you can buy the upgrades you NEED (upgrades are not optional) in order to reach your goal. I did not find the means to adjust the price as you can in Plant Tycoon. Even if I did find the means just as in Plant Tycoon the customers would refuse to buy if the price was too high. This places the gamer at an impasse. If the supply prices were lower or the price of the fish were higher I could be more generous in my comments.
Sometimes I do give a game a second chance but I believe in this case I'll stick to the virtual Village series and say thanx but no thanx.
i love this silly little fish game
its relaxing
i love fish
This game is easy to learn and fun. No bullets, zombies, or fast cars; just a relaxing game that anyone can play.
