Wildshape - Map Editor (free demo)

Do not purchase this software. The devs abandoned it in 2021. It had such promise, but as is it is unpolished, crashes frequently, and is barely usable as a map editor - so I'd never even try to use it as a VTT.

It's ok. It's just fantasy stuff though. Fantasy terrain. Fantasy objects. There's a hundred other fantasy only mappers.

Another would be, wanna be. Forever locked in perpetual beta. Not worth the 40 for the dlc. Definitely not worth wasting time on.

Awesome game! This thing is superb. It's really simple to use and the result is good enough for my players to feel immersed. Plus, the dev read the messages on the forum and answer us.

Love the concept but I've not found this to be very intuitive and the tutorials on Youtube are out of date to the current version. hopefully in time these issues will be resolved and I'll give it another try as the final result once you learn how to work it can look great.

This has SO many possibilities and I was SO unhappy with the interface, its sadly confusing and clunky. I wish the interface was better to make it more usable. Just a little polish and this would be a highly recommend. This program requires patience and dedication to learn.

Has great potential, allows for incredible things if you're patient.
I'm eager to see how it turns out when it's fully released!

The best I found in a 3D map creator: intuitive controls, 8 layers of terrain to make roads, coasts, forest, urban, many assets well placed to easy selection, etc.

Because I need to make an isometric town of my fun novel, the graphics was an issue, which makes the final photo like "a toy model", instead a realistic landscape like Skyrim. In the other hand, FlowScape is the opposite, the best visuals but the controls and possibilities are awful, but, the final photo was so wonderful that I preferred its clumsiness to do my map there, maybe taking double of time as if I were using the practicity of Wildshape, but the final result is all at the end of the day...

A marriage between the possibilities of Wildshape, and the beauty of FlowScape would be perfect!

Recommended for map makers, not so good for landscape planners at this stage. Devs declared they will continue polishing the graphics, so maybe in the near future will be good for both. In this stage, is perfect to set your D&D scenario.

Had some trouble in the beginning but now its a solid program for mapmaking

As a PhotoShop / Blender user I found the controls a little bit clunky but got used to them pretty quick. Really happy with what I was able to make in a short period of time. I would like to see an easy solution to export out video for use in other VTT's, but so far it's off to a great start.

At the moment, the interface is a hot mess. It misses clicks, there are buttons that just flat don't work, and a lot of it isn't intuitive when it could be.

You can get lost in time, clicking your mouse for this early access gem of virtual table top map builder. The moment I'm writing this review, the app still on early access development but considering you'll have a full support from the developer himself (yes, he's the only one who made this) in order to add features, giving suggestions, even have a contest to win the free keys on his Discord server...

Many features don't work. The UI is complex, it should decide to focus on building maps or being a vtt but not both

Functional and useful, though progress has come to a halt with little to no word from the developer.

I definitely recommend this game. Though I don't use it as a game but for a game. As an Old school DM this is like a dram come true to make a mapbin 3d that is so stunning. Great for making scenes for your campaigns as well. The Dev is awesome when it comes to helping you and answering questions. This is a must have especially considering its still in alpha phase and this good already.

It is in early access, so there are some bugs (to be expected) but Wildshape as it stands now is still an amazing tool to have. On top of that, the Developer is INCREDIBLY helpful, accessible, and responsive. There is also a very helpful Discord community. So glad I bought Wildshape and was able to bring my maps to life as a DM.

This is exacly what I've been looking for! I had never seen a tool quite that powerful for map making. Even though it's still in Early Access, you can make amazing maps with it. There is also a VTT option, but I haven't tested it yet because that's not what intend to use this for. It's nice to have the option, though. In addition to all of that, the best part about Wildshape is the developer, who is such a nice guy and tries his best to interact with us and answer all our questions on Discord. I can tell he's been working very hard on this project. Also, the community is fantastic. A lot of nice people trying to help each other, and that makes me feel like I belong. Without a doubt, I 100% recommend it!

Getting That is a joke. No Tutorial getting past the first screen. No info on what to do pasted the first screen. Making a new map starts with and pathing. What is pathing or is it place to put it on your hdd. NO HELP WINDOWS. The youtube videos start with him with a map that have bin made. This is the first time using a program like this. In the Community Hub no help was there.

Needs a tutorial of some sort, im fiddling with it, but i can only fiddle so much till i get just lost and overwhelmed. this is not a negative nor positive review, just a suggestion. Needed to check whether i recommend/ or not in order to post this.

After watching this game develop on the incredible community discord server, I've been waiting for its release with a ton of excitement. Picked up the game, downloaded it, and excitedly made my first map!

Let me tell you, that map is an abomination, but its incredible already the amount of things I can do with it.

The terrain modifications and river making already are incredible for breathing life into a map. Scenes of nature are incredible, and with expansive lighting options you can create some genuinely beautiful things. This is THE tool for map making, tabletop sim doesn't compare win terms of potential. Community content will be a blessed addition to this and expand the already formidable size of assets.

Menu-ing can be a little confusing, and if you try to do things without tutorials you'll probably get lost. Take the time! This is going to be a go-to whenever I want a map or location to feel special!
