Game is allegedly a classic; however, I didn't get that far. After lore dump cutscenes, you get dropped into action with no instructions, goofy controls, and have to WATCH in-game video tutorials to learn anything. Ridiculous.
Game is allegedly landmark stealth gameplay. Tutorials and intros on the other hand have aged like milk.
Classic. Best of series.
Easily the best game in the entire series. 100% would recommend playing.
A true classic of the stealth genre!
this game is nice , i wonder when the next one would come :)
In my opinion this is the true best stealth game, Good characters and stable storyline, levels can be explored to find new paths to objectives, the fact that you can play a majority of the levels without: killing, attacking as a whole, and being detected at all. No need to randomly kill people like any other stealth game, overall this game isn't for people who think that stealth is just killing silently enemies
Best stealth game ever made
BANGER!!!!
one of the best games of all times even the lighting and graphics amaze me today
wish they made games like this again
Metal Gear franchise wishes it had a game as good as this
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is undoubtedly my favourite entry in the Splinter Cell franchise. As Sam Fisher, we navigate a world of espionage, cyber terrorism, and an international world crisis. The gameplay mechanics, primarily the stealth elements, are the highlight here. Using the environment and shadows to remain unseen, we can deftly take down enemies and complete objectives without anyone being the wiser. The visuals were ahead of their time upon release, with realistic lighting and character animations. The game nowadays has become graphically dated. Despite its age, for those looking for a great stealth game with a captivating story, Chaos Theory delivers.
Probably the best stealth game ever made when it comes to stealth gameplay.
Best game I have ever played. It's just a terrible shame that there is a shitty knock off called Metal Gear Solid. That shit sucks ass. If you can't afford a good game then go play that dogshit piece of ass plastic mother fucking plane. Newports
Awful game with horrible controls and unplayable camera movement. Absolute dogshit, why are people praising this?
"Sam, those island monkeys are getting uppity again, saying they don't like "American occupation" and military bases in their country, it's time to remind who owns them with an American boot of democracy. Weapons free, Sam."
t. Lambert, probably...
One of the BEST stealth games of all time
One of the greatest stealth games of all time.
Awesome time-honoured stealth classic. Possibly the best of the franchise. My personal favourite.
Fikey Approved 101% proof!
Controls are a bit outdated but this is PEAK stealth gameplay
Best stealth game ever created.
Keeps crashing near the end of Light House (first mission). I've spent 3 hours trying to fix this issue which I'm almost certain is due to Ubisoft's laziness with this port. Game itself is great, port is shitty and Ubisoft is a shitty company.
The best splinter cell game, heck, maybe even the best stealth game in general.
Trip down memory lane, The music & Levels are so memorable.
So much Nostalgia 1000% recommend.
A time when games released feature complete & without micro transactions, A better time.
Chaos Theory is where it all came to together for Splinter Cell. Ubisoft Montreal caught lightning in a bottle with this release that has arguably the best mechanics of any stealth game from its era. To avoid detection throughout the levels you focus on keeping to the shadows as much as possible and keeping the noise of your footsteps quieter than the background noise in the area, obviously heavily inspired by Thief. You are also given a variety of tools to take out guards, avoid detection, and traverse levels which have been heavily improved from the previous games. Now levels are much more open and offer multiple paths to remain undetected instead of one linear route through a level in the style of the first game. The levels themselves are varied visually and in the challenges to traverse them. The icing on the cake is the brilliant soundtrack by electronic musician Amon Tobin. Each level has a track that morphs up and down through four levels of guard awarness based on how you play the game. There is a segment for complete stealth, suspicion, alert, and combat which effectively communicates how stealthy you are. Chaos Theory is a perfect sequel in that it improves on elements of the previous titles and adds plenty of new mechanics to make it easily the best Splinter Cell game and one of the best of its genre.
Mechanically the most complete stealth game I have ever played. And quite atmospheric. The levels are very distinct from one another and each one has at least one memorable highlight.
Fantastic gameplay. Michael Ironside is the boss.
Best stealth game of all time.
If you like stealth action games, then Splinter Cell series is a must play. Chaos Theory in particular is title that unifies a great story with amazing levels. I definetely recommend this title
Best of the entire Sam Fisher series!!
Very fun stealth game best stealth game of all time 9/10
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – A Masterclass in Stealth Gaming
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory stands as a pinnacle of the stealth genre, delivering a thrilling experience that expertly blends intricate gameplay mechanics, a compelling narrative, and stunning visuals. Released in 2005, this installment not only elevates the franchise but also sets a high bar for stealth games to come.
From the moment players step into the shoes of Sam Fisher, they are immersed in a world filled with tension and intrigue. The story is gripping, revolving around geopolitical threats and espionage that feel relevant and timely. The writing is sharp, complemented by strong voice acting that brings the characters to life. This narrative depth ensures that players are not just going through the motions; they are invested in the unfolding drama.
The gameplay mechanics are where Chaos Theory truly shines. The level design is meticulously crafted, allowing for a variety of approaches to missions. Players can choose to be lethal or non-lethal, utilizing a plethora of gadgets and tools that add layers of strategy to each encounter. The addition of new mechanics, such as the ability to use shadows to your advantage and engage in cooperative gameplay, enhances the stealth experience significantly. The AI is challenging yet fair, providing a sense of accomplishment when you successfully navigate through hostile environments.
Visually, Chaos Theory is impressive for its time, featuring beautifully rendered environments that range from urban landscapes to lush jungles. The attention to detail is remarkable, with realistic lighting and shadows that enhance the stealth mechanics. The sound design is equally commendable, with ambient noises and subtle cues that help players remain aware of their surroundings, adding to the immersion.
Another highlight of the game is the co-op mode, which allows players to team up for special missions. This cooperative gameplay fosters communication and teamwork, offering a different dynamic that enhances the overall experience. The ability to share gadgets and strategies adds an exciting layer of depth that encourages replayability.
In summary, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a remarkable achievement in stealth gaming. Its combination of a gripping narrative, innovative gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals, and engaging cooperative play make it a must-play for fans of the genre. Whether you're a longtime fan of the Splinter Cell series or a newcomer, this game offers a thrilling and immersive experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Dive into the shadows and prepare for an unforgettable journey filled with tension and excitement!
Best in the series.
Absolute masterpiece.
had a friend recommend this game im a fucking dumbass and incredibly unique
The best stealth game made. I just wish Ubisoft could make another Splinter Cell game like this and not Assassins Creed 16.
So a few things. The game is incredible and its stood up to time just like how I remembered it back in the day. Super immersive, awesome mechanics and the environment and audio is just amazing even compared to todays standards honestly. Sam Fishers character is so iconic and in Chaos Theory they really peaked the franchise with him. If you never played it back in the day, dont worry about trying it now, it runs great on my computer no issues. Before you launch just go on pcgamerwiki and download the widescreen fix and the patches, no issues once you do that. Im on 4k 32", had issues and did that all fixed.
Legendary game
Really really good. As far as the stealth genre go, I'm pretty sure this is the chicken before the egg kind of thing. So much better than it's predecessor, I'm having a blast replaying this gem so far. Higly recommend it, even if you're not a fan of the serie. Chaos Theory might be the best of the Splinter Cell saga, period.
Final Rating: 100%, expert difficulty
GoTY 2005
Chaos Theory is the first stealth game I ever played. I played this on the PS2 as a kid and was addicted. It was the coolest game I ever saw. I played it again recently and it still is the coolest game I ever played. I was addicted
As a PS2 game on the Deck, it is a bit power-hungry. Pulling 15W at 90fps is a LOT for a PS2 game, especially when I pull 15W or less in modern AAAs. I managed to drop it down to 6W-7W with 'PowerTools' and frame caps
There is no built in controller support for this game, but it does has custom control setup for the Deck by default! The controls were also confusing. It took me a few hours to get the hang of it. There were no proper tutorials or guides/hints
No achievements, unfotunately. I'd love to add this to my completionist showcase
No cloud save, either. So once you uninstall, your save file goes with it. Unless you manually save it. Which IDC enough to. I took screenshots for my proof of completion
I want to play more Splinter Cell games so badly, but modern Ubisoft games don't exist on PC. I won't make some random account or download some random spyware launcher. The only reason I actually bought Chaos Theory is bcuz I didn't need some account or download some useless bloatware/spyware launcher
A brilliant stealth game. Yes, you can play some missions in full assault mode, but where's the fun in that?
It reminds me of simpler times, when UbiSoft was full of talented people like Patrice Désilets and Clint Hocking and was making innovative titles, back when Ubisoft wasn't a parody of a company managed by PR peoples and releasing mediocre, generic, bland and waterered down follow ups of their flag franchise every couple of months, recycling a formula they forgot how and why they invented inn the first place
I'm pretty sure this game is going to be delisted from the store soon
Campaign isn't really long, but this game is the embodiment of stealth. It's a true stealth experience. Sound meter, hiding in the shadows, doing these moves that aren't possible in other stealth games, killing someone through a wall, slow walking behind someone. One of the best stealth games.
Sweet game. This was the only game in the series I never got around to playing. I wish I would have played when it released. If you like the classic splinter cell or stealth games in general, this one is good to go.
genuinely just so much fun.
I have played this on gamecube when I was a kiddo. Good times. Playing it on pc is a bit different without the sensitivity a stick allowing for slow walking. might want to have a plan for that. The games a classic!
some bomb ass gameplay
One of the best stealth games I've ever played and it has a great soundtrack 9,5/10
Unfortunately the game doesn't work on windows 10/11. Which is a massive pity, as this was one of my favorite games on the Xbox. There is no sound, and the triggers dont work. Also the disclaimer on the game's page that this game was not designed to work with controllers is kinda funny/ ridiculous.
good game, good music background
Worst controls of any game I have ever played in my entire life. To put it in perspective, in order to move faster/slower you have to use the scroll wheel. If you try to customize the keybinds (whether using keyboard OR controller) there are so many buttons for so many different outputs that you might as well just learn how to use the default. This game really hasn't aged well at all and hasn't really been modernized in any way. I played for about an hour in a half and no combination of keybinds made any sense to my brain at all, and I'm someone that has played several thousand video games and can usually adapt to controls instantly. This game was great and critically acclaimed at the time, but I do not recommended this for casual fans of the series. IMO Metal Gear Solid has aged significantly better than the early Splinter Cell games.
Purely brilliant! Been a fan of the SC series since they came out. Still playing them through from time to time in nostalgia, just like Max Payne, Age of Empires, etc.
