I absolutely love this game even after completing it so many times. I find myself coming back again and again when i see it in my library and remember how happy it made me to learn about the character you play as. I love projecting my own personality onto them and i try to give them new quirks every save, giving them a story of my own. Especially while going through some confusing times with my identity as a person and coming into the stage of adulthood, I find comfort in seeing someone figure their own life out and I'm excited to start my new journey.
This game, to me, is very awkward and sometimes uncomfortable when I realize that the spots I place things in can't always stick, things don't always fit when I want them to. And that's okay. Because I'll find another way to make it work, even if it's not going to my own plan.
As a neurodivergent person and someone with associative synesthesia, I experience things that sometimes I don't always understand and the best way i know to communicate is through metaphor and colors. It's why i love games like this. No words to decipher, no perfect narrative to decode, just my interpretation and imagination as I organize for hours.
Visual and vague story telling is one of the most beautiful forms of art to me and I love being pulled in the creator's narrative and being handed the reigns while taking in what they made and adding my ideas. We're writing a story together even across maybe thousands of miles and we're communicating in small ways saying 'look! i want you to see what i did!'. We're having a conversation across worlds, holding hands over tea as we create and share and love what we do.
Giving up specificity to connect with the player/consumer is so intimate to me.
Knowing humans can do this, connect from all over the world to make something beautiful, it reminds me that I'm not alone. It's like a burning fire that you swear you spot pictures in as you sip a hot drink in the cold months, telling someone of your discovery and forcing them to look with you. You both spot your own made up images and talk about how cool it is that fire can make such things.
It's like a soft, dusty yellow that looks almost pink or purple is some light and it's a comfort I want to hold dear for the rest of my life.
I need another game EXACTLY like this, one that continues the story or creates a new one. This game is so much fun yet so relaxing at the same time.
i love this game it helps me relax after a long day. i think it is amazing because lots of people like to organize things and this is perfect for them.
"I finished the game and honestly… I’m in love! 💖 Every little detail was amazing—I could tell how much care went into it. I spent countless hours playing, completely hooked, which is probably why I finished it so quickly 😅. It’s super fun and incredibly relaxing, especially after a long, exhausting day. 🧘♀️🍵
I’d give it a solid 10/10. It’s cozy, charming, and absolutely the kind of game I’d play again in the future.
I periodically come back to this game because it's beautiful, satisfying, fun, and the subtle storytelling always gets to me. Every replay I find new details that i missed the last time, little pieces of the story that fit together neatly. This game is fun because the game mechanic of sorting things into rooms is deeply satisfying, but what makes it great is the surprising depth of the storytelling, told only through the item the protagonist keeps, looses, and gains.
I would LOVE another Unpacking, about a different character - I keep looking for games that will scratch the particular itch Unpacking has left me with, and in the end I always come back to replay this one instead. Nothing else has this fantastic balance of beautiful artwork, fun and surprisingly complex gameplay, and perfectly though-out storytelling.
10/10 love this game it does everything right.
Loved the storyline and the art style for the game. Replaying for the nostalgia right now and I truly did miss it LMAO. Great game <3
favorite game to play for a little bit of chill time! never gets old
I just finished the entire game in one sitting and I can say that I had a very enjoyable time! I think this game is great and I recommend to anyone who likes decorating (obviously) I literally started to tear up near the end too. This game is just so wholesome!
Got if for gf and she really likes it! fun to watch her figure everything out lol
This game is relaxing and fun! I love the concept of getting stickers in the game and the progression of the story is really nice. Plus the LGBTQIA+ rep in this is just... I'm so glad it's there. Perfect game for a chaotic world
What a delightfully relaxing and heartfelt game. No timers, forced sense of urgency, pressure, just cozy nostalgia. Beautiful art design paired with a light-hearted and relaxing soundtrack sets the mood and tells a story with practically zero narration/exposition; you really get a sense of where the player is in life and what they've experienced with each new level. I found myself getting nostalgic as the game went on, always eager to see what previous items made it through to the next move, and a little anxious to see what didn't. The dev team clearly put a lot of love and care into this game and they've been super helpful and friendly when I had a technical issue (that turned out to probably have been my fault anyway).
Great game, perfect for a little unwinding at the end of the day
Very cute and simple game. Nice way to relax.
No actual writing of a story, but still tells a sweet one if you pay attention to the clues.
I enjoy finding the secret achievements.
My only complaint is in regards to how short the game is.
Would like more chapters or even a different person's moving story.
I love the art and style of this game! Watching someone grow through unpacking different stages of their life is so interesting and fun. I loved the organizing aspect of the game, and that it also gives you enough freedom to decide where you want things to go.
Pretty tedious but very satisfying! The details on all the items and settings made the game more enjoyable :) the storyline was okay but not my fav.
This game made me stress out, feel the heartbreak of a bad relationship, feel nostalgia, and fall in love. I want to redecorate my room in real life now.
Oddly relaxing. It's a great game to unwind after a long day at school/work.
Cute game with a storyline that is told through exploring ones belongings and organizing new homes throughout life. Recommend a lot!
I love the concept, art style and story. But it wasn't long until the game just became frustrating instead of relaxing because at the end of each level half the items would flash red and the game would tell me I couldn't put them where I'd put them. Why? Why can't nail clippers go in the drawer? Why mustn't this bag go on the floor? Why can't this colander go in the cupboard although there is clearly enough room for it? If you insist on having these restrictions, at least make the items go red as soon as I place something in an invalid spot so I can find somewhere it can go, instead of having to tear the place apart again at the end of the level.
£15 is also an insanely high price for the tiny number of levels you get. If you must buy this game, get it on sale. But I personally wouldn't bother even at that price because the frustrating placement restrictions strip this game of its fun. Disappointing.
very cute, relaxing and wholesome game! replayability is still there!
Unpacking has a wonderful story within a peaceful and calming sorting game. I've played it multiple times and there are always new things to notice and discover in every play through.
While there were moments of frustration, they only added to the challenge and satisfaction of the experience. If you have a passion for organizing and arranging items just so, or enjoy decorating according to your personal taste, this game is a perfect fit. What truly stood out to me was how the story unfolds as you progress, with each new room bringing memories to life through passed down toys and decorations, creating a beautiful sense of nostalgia and continuity
I really liked this game. I recommend it if you're looking for a cozy, relaxing game to play.
Positives points :
- It's really calming.
- There are a lot of options; you can do things as you like.
- Plus, there's the possibility of three save slots if you want to keep your rearrangements in one slot or let a friend test them.
- There's some interaction, making it interesting to explore.
Negatives points :
- Some placements are frustrating.
- Other than that, I feel the game should have been a little longer, considering the price (I completed it in 8 hours). But I got it on sale, so I guess it's fine for me.
this game was very cozy w a really cute storyline that you could pickup on if you payed attention!! definitely recommend
I got this game on sale and would say its worth it but ONLY IF ON SALE. The game is very short! If you really wanted to you could finish the game in time to refund it which is ridiculous for a 20 dollar game. The gameplay itself is minimal but cozy and relaxing. The story follows briefly the life of one character and doesn't get too in depth with the story. Overall pleasant but short experience.
Fun, love the storytelling and the freedom to sort things the way you want, provided it follows the storyline.
It's such a good game. Who doesn't love sorting? My only complaint is I wish there were more levels!
I started playing this game expecting something chill, something to fill that need for a sense of control somewhere in a world where it feels we have less and less of it. I wasn't expecting a gut punch of nostalgia. I felt so called out with the loose threads scattered around the dress form, pattern envelopes on the floor, a Sailor Venus cosplay in progress, the anime figures and the plushies. Oh the early adulthood first apartment experience with mismatched furniture, a well-worn well-loved blanket, mismatching cups, leftovers from college still serviceable years later. I felt a pang of sorrow for a life that felt like a lifetime ago, a life that no longer exists for me. I wasn't expecting to grieve. I wasn't expecting to cry.
It's a beautiful game, thanks to all who made it such a touching experience.
Unpacking is one of those rare games that speaks volumes without saying a single word. There is no dialogue, no text-based narrative, yet by the end, I felt deeply connected to the person whose life I had slowly uncovered box by box.
At its core, the gameplay is simple. You unpack items and find a place for them. But this simplicity is exactly what makes the game so moving. Every object tells a story. From childhood toys that stay with you for years, to toothbrushes, posters, and photographs, each item reveals something about the person you are following. Without any text, the game lets you witness love, growth, heartbreak, change, and resilience.
The pixel art is incredibly detailed and warm. The sound design is satisfying and realistic. The ambient music sets a calm and reflective mood. Together, they create a soothing atmosphere that invites you to slow down and truly pay attention.
Unpacking is short, but it stays with you. It does not rush. It respects your time and your emotions. It is the kind of game that feels like a quiet conversation with someone you care about. Personal, intimate, and full of heart.
If you are looking for a peaceful, thoughtful, and beautifully designed experience, this game is absolutely worth your time.
get the game on sale.cute, relaxing game. wish there was more freedom to put things where it would make sense to put them? (sauces in the fridge, etc) - game is a bit short for full price. maybe a me problem, but sometimes when the item placement wasn't even (not exactly in the middle), that would kinda drive me nuts.
Has a nice charm to it. Satisfying to unpack and organise stuff. Some times mandatory placement for items is frustrating but overall is good. Short so wait for discount.
I love how easy it is to become lost in this game. I wish there were more levels, but I keep coming back every few months and playing it again!
I really like this game. Organizing is my "thing", so I have played it through at least a half dozen times. I like to challenge myself to "make it even better" each time I start organizing.
The big question is....will there be more? I really want to have a series of these games, but have heard nothing about sequels. Please let us know if there will be further installations!
For those on the fence...this is a very cute, quiet game. Great for pushing the world aside & just focusing on the tiny details. I think it is great, hence my playing it so many times. Would love to find more games of this kind. If you like puzzles, I think you will really enjoy it.
me personally, i'm an organizing addict so this game was AMAZING. i loved on how there was a variety of stuff to place around with a small story line that followed along with it. my only wish for this game is for it to be a lot longer especially since i played it consistently lol. definitely recommend though!
A super chill and laidback game! i love playing this while listening to podcasts, its super calming and a good destresser
beautiful and relaxing all at once. one of my favorite games to sit back and chill with.
10/10
can get a little boring and i wish there was more levels but it was fun and different
This game scratches SO many itches! Organisation, creativity, puzzles. It has helped with my panic attacks, just a nice soothing game you can get lost in.
Cute game, thought there would be much more content for the price. Gameplay is only about 4 hours long. A little disappointed as I thought there would be more to it considering the hype.
Very cozy game, that has more of a story to it than you might think. Hits you in the feels, and it's satisfying to place things in different places. I only wish there could be more to play like this, but I have played through it twice fully, and will probably keep coming back for the experience, even if it's just one story.
Honestly really lovely, I played it through about a year ago, really sweet story and nice graphics. Im about to re-play and redownloaded steam just to do so. I do wish that there was more than 5 hours of gameplay though as its a really good game.
i think the game is kinda boring, you place always the same things just in bigger appartments. and its very annoying that you cant place everything everywhere (like room is logical but you cant place a toaster on the table in kitchen??) i needed to watch yt videos so i know where i can place specific things... this game is a flop for me.
This game resonated with me a lot, didn't expect to get emotional over unpacking digital items. Beautiful design, love the music, the hidden achievements, and the freedom of placing things wherever you desire are incredible. Despite being a set story, one can play and experience this game in so many ways, it's relaxing and self-paced, can't recommend it enough!
A cute little game with surprisingly well storytelling! I enjoyed taking my time to unpack my boxes and looking around at the life that unfolded around me. Great use of ''generational items''. I don't see myself playing it again as it's not much to do different in a new playthrough, but it was time well spent. A++
A fun short puzzle game - I enjoyed achievement hunting, and seeing how the person grew over time, but will admit I got a tad bit annoyed when I disagreed with an item's 'correct' placement!
A simple game with a gentle storyline revolving around everyday moments. It’s not just a casual experience; through each room and each passing year, I feel a deeper connection, as if I’m gradually understanding what the character has gone through and is living in the present. Even more surprising, the game unveils unexpected glimpses of their future. I truly cherish a game like this and sincerely thank everyone who has worked and continues to work to create such a wonderful experience.
I wish there were more chapters in this game, but in a way, I'm glad the devs ended it the way it is. It's quite therapeutic to play this as there's not much complication found throughout the game, although it does get a little tricky the more rooms you discover. I like how this is packed with a rather simplified animation too--you can tell what the main character is into and good God, the plushy, the toys, and even the painting? Love their design! <3
This is one of the most chill and comfy games I've ever played, especially if you enable the "place items where you want" option. It also has some of the most charming pixel art I've ever seen in a game, very relaxing and catchy music, and absolutely superb sound design. Please give this game a shot if you're looking for something nice and cozy, it's totally worth every penny!
This game was amazing in its simple yet unique storytelling. I loved being able to not only organize things but also figure out what's going on in the life of our character. The achievements were enjoyable to look for as well. I originally was on the fence about getting this game since it's $20. Even though it's a shorter experience (around 4 hours or so to complete), it was worth every penny!
10/10 game, the end song hit me right in the feels. It was a little annoying that some things had to be in very specific places but that wasn't all that bad. Other than having to put her diploma under the bed in the 2010 level, that was just mean :(, she worked so hard and she is cant even hang it up next to the band posters in the living room :,(
A short but nice chill experience. Actually tells a story by the stuff you unpack and the places you are at which is a nice way.
