great for the neurodivergent folk (me)
cute little game with multiple levels, makes the brain happy and distracts from the soul crushing reality of life.
10/10 - want the pig plush in real life
Not everyone is gonna play this game searching for answers like I did. Though my life is very different than those boxes I unpacked, it helped put some things back in perspective for me.
Long story short, I have a life changing move coming up. Again. I've been stuck in a loop of negative outcomes but have been doing it on semi-purpose with the intent to find the sources of my fears and determine trauma from bullshit. The goal is to heal the trauma and eradicate the bullshit. What this game helped me with specifically is giving me reassurance. You aren't going to be for all people and some of them won't give you the space you need to be. But when you find your tribe and they give you the space to thrive? Well then golly gee willickers fam, it won't always be peachy keen but stop thinking the worst! lol
Has this game cured me? No. Has it helped me make progress? Yes and that's why it gets a rec.
if u saw this game on sales, BUY. its a cozy lil game that can accompany u if u want to relax. there's different mode, one is fixed positioned mode where all items has its "pre-set" locations, another is free-will mode, where u can place everything where ever you want. I love both modes, and hence why i used like 9hrs to play this game lol. It's nice to see how the MC grew and what they had went through, and i think its fun thinking abt the stories behind each rooms and house!
recomennnnnn ye
Lovely way to tell a story. Beautiful, interesting, meditative, fun. Wish there was a DLC or a second game on its way because I cannot get enough
Fun game but not at all worth it for the price. Limited replay-ability and I finished the entire story in 90 minutes. Wait until it goes on sale, price is not justified for the amount of content.
i love this game! if you're a person who likes to organize stuff and maybe you're a perfectionist (like me), so get this game. and i forgot to say how good the game looks, even though its not hyper realistic, it's simple and stunning.
very sigma relaxing game. great if you like organizing and decorating. calming music and lots of nostalgia. i lowkey love this game.
I love this game. It is the best for when I'm super stressed and need to focus on something relaxing. I've re-played this game so many times... I would love to see another made by this company.
Very short game, and very satisfying to sort all the items
short but sweet <3 based on other reviews I waited for it to be on sale, definitely worth the wait!
A very charming, fun little game. It's pretty much exactly what you expect, with a nice story told throughout.
I finished the game rather quickly, however, there was still more to do once I finished the game. You can also turn the puzzle aspect off and simply just organize the rooms as you want. I really enjoyed this game, very worth the money.
Very relaxing and calming game that tells a story in a way that it feels like you would be growing up as a sibling right next to the main character. If you are looking for nice music and ambience while ordering stuff to their own places this is the game for you.
Only thing that I would give a little critique would be the pricing. The game is pretty and well made but it is way too short to put it blunt. With 2-3 hours of playtime (even if you would be taking your time) the price tag on the game is a tad bit steep.
I love this game so much more than I ever expected too. Generally, it may not be quite worth full price for most people since not everyone will find a lot of replay-ability here. However, if you are a fan of cozy games, organization, and background storytelling then you're sure to at least like this game. I have almost 50hrs in the game, but average playtime is probably closer to four or five hours, at least for a first play-through or to get all achievements. I personally have found a lot of value in replaying the game anytime I need something relaxing, but there aren't any additional content or incentives for this, I just find it fun to see how differently I set up the rooms every few months.
The art of the game is absolutely fantastic and the gameplay itself is very polished. There are few, if any, things I wish I could do in the game that I currently can't, and there are some things I can do which I never would have expected (like putting the toothbrush in a cup). The pixel art is, again, fantastic and moving items around felt incredibly intuitive, snappy, and consistent. The true way the game shines, at least for those of us not obsessed with organizing, is in its background narrative. It's incredibly endearing and the game consistently does a great job in making you feel exactly the emotions it wants you to. You feel the excitement, discomfort, heartbreak, and freedom that the main character is meant to be feeling simply by moving her things and the ambient storytelling of the room. An absolute master class in taking a simple concept, like moving objects around in a room, and expanding it into something that can actually leave an impact on the player.
very relaxing and great if you also have ocd or just love to organize stuff!
i enjoyed the storyline, and hidden details between each room/ home. it develops the character, in a way where they can't even have a full dialogue. i fw it heavily. the art style is adorable, and even though i have this game 100%, and fully complete, i can come back and just sit down and organize for fun! <3
I couldn't possibly gush enough over this game. Easily my favorite game I've ever purchased on steam, and also easily my favorite game of all time. I BEG for DLC. I've played and replayed Unpacking so many times, like I said I can't compliment this game enough. Cozy and comfy, but also sentimental and very clearly made with a lot of love. Thank you forever for making this game. <3 Unpacking for life <3
The only real downside is that it's pretty short. I could probably play the whole thing once a year to just chill. its high quality, but not the best value out there. i really like the art and music, and that is usually what draws me to a game in the first place. there is one point in the game where there is a very brief puzzle. It's confusing becuase at no other point in the game do you find a plot point puzzle... so honestly, i recommend just looking up the answer on reddit because its not obvious in my opinion.
Unpacking might seem like a simple cozy game at first — just organizing stuff room by room. 📦 But very quickly, it becomes something much deeper. Through just unpacking a person's belongings, the game tells an emotional, beautiful story about growing up, change, and life itself.
It's incredible how much feeling the creators managed to pack into such a quiet, simple experience. No words, no cutscenes — just objects and memories. And somehow, it hits you right in the heart. ❤️
Short, unforgettable, and truly special.
Rating: 10/10
Reminds me of those y8 games where you decorate rooms and houses and stuff, which immedietly makes this an 11/10
A cute and relaxing game with a bit of subtle storytelling that leaves a lasting impression. I enjoyed the aesthetic and the gameplay. I wished there was bit more content for the price, so I would recommend it if you see it on sale or in a bundle, but it is a nice game.
This game is very relaxing and kinda sad in a bittersweet way it made me think, and I actually like this game it also makes you think about your life too which not a lot of games can do.
I've only just started playing and i already 100% recommend this game, i was cautious at first because i dont spend money on new games so care-free, especially £15, but oh my goddddd i love it, as someone with anxiety this game is so relaxing and THERE IS A STORYYYY, i've learnt so much about this character, her relationships and her favourite hobbies, it is so clever. I am addicted to this game, i never really write reviews but this game deserves one.
somehow the most relaxing yet stressful game i've ever played. absolutely incredible design and storytelling through all the items. :)
The visual storytelling is amazing. Getting to know the main character over the years, who they are as a person, just by the objects they own, is very adorable.
Perfectly cozy!
The more time you spend in this game, the better it is! It has an incredible attention to detail that tells a great and relatable story.
I absolutely love this game even after completing it so many times. I find myself coming back again and again when i see it in my library and remember how happy it made me to learn about the character you play as. I love projecting my own personality onto them and i try to give them new quirks every save, giving them a story of my own. Especially while going through some confusing times with my identity as a person and coming into the stage of adulthood, I find comfort in seeing someone figure their own life out and I'm excited to start my new journey.
This game, to me, is very awkward and sometimes uncomfortable when I realize that the spots I place things in can't always stick, things don't always fit when I want them to. And that's okay. Because I'll find another way to make it work, even if it's not going to my own plan.
As a neurodivergent person and someone with associative synesthesia, I experience things that sometimes I don't always understand and the best way i know to communicate is through metaphor and colors. It's why i love games like this. No words to decipher, no perfect narrative to decode, just my interpretation and imagination as I organize for hours.
Visual and vague story telling is one of the most beautiful forms of art to me and I love being pulled in the creator's narrative and being handed the reigns while taking in what they made and adding my ideas. We're writing a story together even across maybe thousands of miles and we're communicating in small ways saying 'look! i want you to see what i did!'. We're having a conversation across worlds, holding hands over tea as we create and share and love what we do.
Giving up specificity to connect with the player/consumer is so intimate to me.
Knowing humans can do this, connect from all over the world to make something beautiful, it reminds me that I'm not alone. It's like a burning fire that you swear you spot pictures in as you sip a hot drink in the cold months, telling someone of your discovery and forcing them to look with you. You both spot your own made up images and talk about how cool it is that fire can make such things.
It's like a soft, dusty yellow that looks almost pink or purple is some light and it's a comfort I want to hold dear for the rest of my life.
I need another game EXACTLY like this, one that continues the story or creates a new one. This game is so much fun yet so relaxing at the same time.
i love this game it helps me relax after a long day. i think it is amazing because lots of people like to organize things and this is perfect for them.
"I finished the game and honestly… I’m in love! 💖 Every little detail was amazing—I could tell how much care went into it. I spent countless hours playing, completely hooked, which is probably why I finished it so quickly 😅. It’s super fun and incredibly relaxing, especially after a long, exhausting day. 🧘♀️🍵
I’d give it a solid 10/10. It’s cozy, charming, and absolutely the kind of game I’d play again in the future.
I periodically come back to this game because it's beautiful, satisfying, fun, and the subtle storytelling always gets to me. Every replay I find new details that i missed the last time, little pieces of the story that fit together neatly. This game is fun because the game mechanic of sorting things into rooms is deeply satisfying, but what makes it great is the surprising depth of the storytelling, told only through the item the protagonist keeps, looses, and gains.
I would LOVE another Unpacking, about a different character - I keep looking for games that will scratch the particular itch Unpacking has left me with, and in the end I always come back to replay this one instead. Nothing else has this fantastic balance of beautiful artwork, fun and surprisingly complex gameplay, and perfectly though-out storytelling.
10/10 love this game it does everything right.
Loved the storyline and the art style for the game. Replaying for the nostalgia right now and I truly did miss it LMAO. Great game <3
favorite game to play for a little bit of chill time! never gets old
I just finished the entire game in one sitting and I can say that I had a very enjoyable time! I think this game is great and I recommend to anyone who likes decorating (obviously) I literally started to tear up near the end too. This game is just so wholesome!
Got if for gf and she really likes it! fun to watch her figure everything out lol
This game is relaxing and fun! I love the concept of getting stickers in the game and the progression of the story is really nice. Plus the LGBTQIA+ rep in this is just... I'm so glad it's there. Perfect game for a chaotic world
What a delightfully relaxing and heartfelt game. No timers, forced sense of urgency, pressure, just cozy nostalgia. Beautiful art design paired with a light-hearted and relaxing soundtrack sets the mood and tells a story with practically zero narration/exposition; you really get a sense of where the player is in life and what they've experienced with each new level. I found myself getting nostalgic as the game went on, always eager to see what previous items made it through to the next move, and a little anxious to see what didn't. The dev team clearly put a lot of love and care into this game and they've been super helpful and friendly when I had a technical issue (that turned out to probably have been my fault anyway).
Great game, perfect for a little unwinding at the end of the day
Very cute and simple game. Nice way to relax.
No actual writing of a story, but still tells a sweet one if you pay attention to the clues.
I enjoy finding the secret achievements.
My only complaint is in regards to how short the game is.
Would like more chapters or even a different person's moving story.
I love the art and style of this game! Watching someone grow through unpacking different stages of their life is so interesting and fun. I loved the organizing aspect of the game, and that it also gives you enough freedom to decide where you want things to go.
Pretty tedious but very satisfying! The details on all the items and settings made the game more enjoyable :) the storyline was okay but not my fav.
This game made me stress out, feel the heartbreak of a bad relationship, feel nostalgia, and fall in love. I want to redecorate my room in real life now.
Oddly relaxing. It's a great game to unwind after a long day at school/work.
Cute game with a storyline that is told through exploring ones belongings and organizing new homes throughout life. Recommend a lot!
Unpacking is absolutely one of my favorite games ever. The aesthetic is just perfect — it ticks all the right boxes and satisfies my OCD brain in the best way possible. Every item placed, every little detail, feels so intentional and fulfilling. What really stands out is how the game tells a whole story through each scene. The minor details speak volumes, giving so much depth to the character’s journey. It’s incredible how this game conveys such a rich narrative without saying a word. The art is gorgeous, and the whole experience is incredibly cozy. This game is truly special — brilliant in every way.
I love the concept, art style and story. But it wasn't long until the game just became frustrating instead of relaxing because at the end of each level half the items would flash red and the game would tell me I couldn't put them where I'd put them. Why? Why can't nail clippers go in the drawer? Why mustn't this bag go on the floor? Why can't this colander go in the cupboard although there is clearly enough room for it? If you insist on having these restrictions, at least make the items go red as soon as I place something in an invalid spot so I can find somewhere it can go, instead of having to tear the place apart again at the end of the level.
£15 is also an insanely high price for the tiny number of levels you get. If you must buy this game, get it on sale. But I personally wouldn't bother even at that price because the frustrating placement restrictions strip this game of its fun. Disappointing.
very cute, relaxing and wholesome game! replayability is still there!
Unpacking has a wonderful story within a peaceful and calming sorting game. I've played it multiple times and there are always new things to notice and discover in every play through.
While there were moments of frustration, they only added to the challenge and satisfaction of the experience. If you have a passion for organizing and arranging items just so, or enjoy decorating according to your personal taste, this game is a perfect fit. What truly stood out to me was how the story unfolds as you progress, with each new room bringing memories to life through passed down toys and decorations, creating a beautiful sense of nostalgia and continuity
I really liked this game. I recommend it if you're looking for a cozy, relaxing game to play.
Positives points :
- It's really calming.
- There are a lot of options; you can do things as you like.
- Plus, there's the possibility of three save slots if you want to keep your rearrangements in one slot or let a friend test them.
- There's some interaction, making it interesting to explore.
Negatives points :
- Some placements are frustrating.
- Other than that, I feel the game should have been a little longer, considering the price (I completed it in 8 hours). But I got it on sale, so I guess it's fine for me.
this game was very cozy w a really cute storyline that you could pickup on if you payed attention!! definitely recommend
