INCREDIBLE, Make your home cities Metro/railway system. Or play a variety of Gamemodes with a selection of recommend cities (or use workshop as there are several thousands available). 100% worth the price!!!!
I honestly regret buying this game. I bought it looking for a dispatching simulation similar to SimSig, which the marketing made it seemed like it was. Instead it's a train themed puzzle game, and not a very good one at that. The early game is tedious micromanagement, and then the rest of game introduces automation that half the time doesn't work correctly, and the other half makes the game boring. Overall, I'd say to avoid this, especially at the full price of $25.
very nice game. i dont play it often but wen i do the time flyes becouse there is always something with the tracks or timetable too optimise
I drive buses and trams for work and this game is a blast! Makes me see the big picture and feel like doing my colleagues' work in the Centralized Control Center (aka Dispatch). You need patience at first to learn the mechanics but once you're used to how everything works you can start building your network and it's just so satisfying! I really like the artistic direction here and UX is quite intuitive. I nominate this for ''Sit Back and Relax'' award 2024. Thanks devs, you've done a great job pleasing my train autism :DDD
When I bought this game, I had been looking for a game where I could play as a train dispatcher for a while. The game is certainly what I expected: you really have the feeling of being in control, but as has been described in the other reviews, the tutorial could be better
Rail Route is a captivating train dispatcher simulator that masterfully combines simplicity with depth, offering an engaging experience for both casual players and simulation enthusiasts.
At its core, Rail Route tasks players with designing and managing a railway network, ensuring trains reach their destinations efficiently. The mechanics are straightforward: lay tracks, schedule trains, and control signals. However, as your network expands, the challenge intensifies, requiring strategic planning and quick decision-making to prevent delays and collisions. This balance between accessible mechanics and escalating complexity keeps the gameplay both relaxing and stimulating, which is somethign I've been craving during my studies.
The minimalist art style is both charming and functional, providing clear visuals that make managing complex networks intuitive. The ambient soundtrack complements the gameplay, creating a soothing atmosphere that enhances the overall experience.
With over 2,000 community-made maps and a built-in level editor, Rail Route offers extensive replay value. Players can recreate real-world junctions, design fictional networks, or challenge themselves with user-generated puzzles, ensuring endless possibilities and longevity.
Rail Route excels in transforming a simple concept into an engrossing simulation. Its easy-to-understand mechanics, combined with the depth of strategic planning, provide a rewarding experience that keeps you coming back for more. Whether you're a fan of management games or new to the genre, Rail Route is a delightful journey worth embarking on.
Enjoyable if you're a fan of train games, but the tutorials leave much to be desired when it comes to explaining the more advanced automation mechanics. They merely guide you through placing and configuring components in a specific tutorial map, showing you their function in that context without offering deeper insights into why or how they work. You're expected to deduce their mechanics from a single demonstration, which can be frustrating if your setup differs significantly from the tutorial. If you can overcome this learning curve, the game does offer an enjoyable experience.
Surprisingly relaxing and satisfying, especially in the later portions.
From a unique perspective, we experienced the hardships of a railway dispatcher, and we can use it to pass the time when we are bored, so this game is pretty good!
Love it. Dont know all mechanics yet but it is super challenging.
Cooles Spiel - am Anfang alles manuell, dann nach und nach komplett automatisch.
Maybe a bit hard to understand, but after some time, you'll see it's fun. Because I like trains. You should do.
I enjoyed it. As soon as you have enough logic structures unlocked, you can basically build a rail network that manages itself which is oddly satisfying. I didn't care much for the story, though.
For someone who generally loves train games, this is quite a unique little game, where you work with the trains from the traffic controller's POV. There are no other games quite like this one.
I've been playing off and on for awhile now, usually a game to sit back and pass some time. I think it's come along way in creativity, you often have to sit there and think about your next steps in building your rail network, and ensuring everything runs on time and to schedule. Gets your brain going that's for sure.
This is one of my favorite games of all time because of its unique game play that cannot be found virtually anywhere else.
That being said, there are requirements in order for you to really enjoy this game: First, do you enjoy managing a train network (micromanaging or long-term building for automation)? Second, do you enjoy problem/puzzle solving? Third, do you feel satisfied when you see a fully automated train network (like in the trailer), and/or get excited to see your city in the game? And finally, are you willing to put in 50+ hours to simply learn how to automate your train network?
If you said yes to all of the above, definitely go for it! If you said no to the last question but yes to the rest, find youtube tutorials to decide whether the fun and satisfaction is worth the brain damage that you will probably have when you start to do shunting. Or maybe don't do shunting. That also works.
Fun game with a few quirks, but there's enough variety pushing stuff aside into the too-hard basket doesn't feel too restrictive. Getting a basic network going with manual routing and the step up to auto-signals was fairly straightforward with the tutorial giving a decent enough overview. More advance signalling like parking trains between stops gets a bit frustrating.
It's pleasing when you manage to design a network to be under almost constant utilisation and the contract frequency is enough that you can be pretty selective with what you take in order to make that happen (the auto-reject rules really help with that). Unlocking the higher tiers seems easier than it was in early access now that you have more choices for red ticket rewards, so you're not locking yourself out of parts of the game by ignoring contract types you don't want to do.
Excellent management game. Relaxing and challenging at the same time.
It kind of starts as a puzzle game, but once you've got a set of tracks going you can just let it run and watch the trains zip by.
The devs regularly update the game and try to improve or add features, which is great.
One of the downsides, is that the controls and the interface take some getting used to. The controls aren't always intuitive/consistent, but I believe the devs are still exploring ways to improve the experience.
Made with the right heart, and at its core the gameplay is solid, but missing a lot of QOL-features that would make it a real smooth/solid experience. E 10-15 would be a more reasonable price. Big thumbs up for the soundtrack.

This game can be life-changing. Imagine getting a job at Manchester ROC because you played this game and signalled rush hour chaos.
Reply: I am not planning to even work at Manchester ROC, it's just recommended for people that may be looking to work in signalling and management. It's still a very detailed and realistic game.
The game runs terribly on MacOS, the mouse is unresponsive and nothing seems to work correctly. I had to navigate menus using the keyboard. The tutorial was OK-ish but the game is very unclear and often makes no sense.
Interesting game, however it does have a few bugs. One is when you are trying to select a waiting train to enter a station (without auto accept on). Cant always do it, with the train being delayed.
I never thought I’d feel this way, but this game’s “tutorial” or opening experience really got under my skin. I’m not even sure if I’m still in the tutorial or not. The guide said I’d be free to play my way, yet jumps in just in time to ruin my planning with interruptions that mess everything up. The camera shifts without warning, and those “automatic signals”? They’re so automatic that I now have to manually approve them every time they’re about to be passed. Really?
And here’s the kicker: there’s no way to undo, stop, or try again. There’s not even an option to intentionally fail just to start over. You’re stuck with your mistakes, even if those mistakes were caused by unclear tools or that ever-interrupting guide. I wouldn’t mind this as an optional mode for those who like a challenge, but forcing this on everyone by default is infuriating. Yes, I’m angry and emotional. I want to love this game—there’s so much potential—but instead, it’s driving me up the wall, and I’ve barely played for an hour.
I feel like I’ve hit rock bottom with bad gaming experiences before, and this is not one of those. The game could be a gem! But for the love of all things trains and signals, don’t force my errors on me—especially when they stem from unclear mechanics or constant interruptions.
“Oh, you don’t know how the automatic signals work?” Well, they were described as something I’d never have to switch manually again. Thanks for that... not.
TRAINS
fun if you like train games, but the tutorials are completely insufficient to explain a lot of the unlockable automation mechanics. at best they show you how to place and configure the components, then show you what they do in the very specific tutorial map. no explanation of what they're doing or anything, you're just expected to intuitively understand how they work from seeing them work once. and hopefully your setup is somewhat analogous to the one in the tutorial, because if not, good luck configuring it. if you can get past this, it is pretty fun.
Rail route is a puzzle game where you try to run your trains on time. At the start of an (endless) game, you have to do almost everyhing by hand, but as you progress tools become available that help you automate things and allow you to expand your network.
The game is not always very intuitive, there are help scenario's that show you how to use the new available tool but sometimes, they don't make it sufficiently clear how to use them. But with some trial and error, things tend to become clear in the end.
Some limitations make the game harder than it should be. e.g. Sensors that help guide your trains are not available in tunnels, which seems a bit odd to me. However the developers are still working on it and one of those limitations was lifted last weerk.
It is primarely a game on automation, and it does that well, if you are in to that kind of game, you will probably like rail route.
Very similar to sim sig, not as good as but an excellent alternative
Can't recommend this game more if you like problem solving type of games. It has some minor drawbacks (FPS drop if you have many contracts) but overall it's worth every dollar devs asking for it. My only hope is devs will consider sequel because there still is big potential to this idea/gameplay.
why is this so addicting...
it's UI is very easy and it is quick to play.
It's fun seeing all the automations smoothly transitioning through time and filling your account. Also there is always a little something to optimize.
Anayway, I didn't manage to deal with the shunting part.
Great game, very hard to master. Just needs a better campaign mode
Rail Route is a fantastic game that offers a lot of flexibility in how you approach success. One of the things I love most is the fact that there are multiple paths to achieving your goals, allowing for a variety of play styles. It's the perfect embodiment of the "easy to learn, hard to master" philosophy, where the basics are accessible, but mastering the intricate mechanics takes real skill. Another aspect that really stands out is how, even in the later stages of the game, you're never swimming in money—there's always a need to make tough choices on which lines to upgrade, creating an interesting trade-off that keeps you engaged. I'm also blown away by how the game forces you to carefully plan upgrades in a way that maintains the continuity of your operations and ensures that existing contracts are honored. It adds a layer of strategic depth that really sets Rail Route apart.
Idk why, but this game just itches a very satisfying part of my brain.
It's puzzling, managing and relaxing, all in one.
The story that's in there is short, but it's just to help you get used to all the controls.
Definitely recommend this game, can even run on a potato PC ^v^
If you like Air Traffic Controlling and car traffic lights games, as well as building roads/routes. Then this game is for you.
Im old and I work in a factory, hard job, and I can tell you this much: This game is probably one of the only games in a long time, that got me excited like a child to get back home and play more!
Introduction story is very personal and very nice. I like the effect it creates. Doesn't explain well the scheduling, but that's something you can figure out yourself with a bit of patience.
Fun if you like management style games where you can control the pace yourself. More depth than expected, good value for a indie title
Clear recommendation if you have, like me, a never ending itch for system optimization and creating optimized time tables. How to squeeze in another train running every twenty minutes so that on the stations on the main line are served exactly every ten minutes? Should I add a planned overtake here to avoid slowing down inter cities every time? You can optimize all these questions in greatest detail.
Granted, the learning curve is steep and sometimes, the game's behavior is … estranging. But most of the time it's really fun and the hiccups (crashes every few hours, weird and nerdy controls) are the charme of an indie game.
However, without the DLC "Happy passengers" that game would not be that much fun as it is. As described above, I love to build my own network (possible with base game), but then I also want to build my own lines and timetables (DLC required).
So: with DLC yes!, without DLC also yes but it's more of a challenge because the game creates the trains' routes for you based on questionable shortest path calculation:
Built a track around a station for freight trains? The will require freight trains to pass through the station because its shorter, but that isn't realistic. With the DLC you can solve that because you can define own contract routes.
Update to my review: As the devs pointed out, all the above is also possible in the base game, however the DLC allows to start making own contracts way earlier in the game (sandbox mode aside).
This is an awesome game which has kept me engaged for hours on end. Recommended.
Nice strategic game, brilliant to have a game where you actually feel like a signaller.
A surprisingly addictive puzzle/management game, with multiple ways to solve the numerous problems you face while trying to create your rail network. This often feels like a rail-building sandbox despite the very well crafted maps that always force you to compromise and find solutions to maintain your ever-increasingly complex timetable.
Side effect : you will probably become a bit more tolerant about train delay in real life
Game is very high quality in terms of sound design and visuals, and a very large portion of the game seems to be made well, however there are a few gripes that make the game difficult for me to recommend to people.
The tutorial is simply the developer's other game "Rail Route: The Story of Jozic" and while The Story of Jozic is a very enjoyable story, his storytelling is distracting while playing an inherently complex game and it caused me to lose track of myself in a tutorial that does not explicitly elaborate on many of the components that you need to interact with to progress in the tutorial, or they are, Jozic is explaining them in his monologue and it goes back to the matter of being rather difficult to follow while he is also telling his thrilling story.
Coming from someone who has played the other game that this developer published, it would have been nice to see a more direct and linear, explanation-heavy tutorial that focuses more on the fundamental causes of what the tutorial wants you to do, as there are many points where you end up at the end of the dialogue with no visual on what to do next, and you need to rely on Jozic muttering the same 3 second line until you press what they want you to press. Because of that, I believe the tutorial is extremely lack-luster and does not necessarily display what is needed for a new player to understand the basic aspects of the game and does not express the result of what performing certain actions cause.
The train auto-pathing is very simple currently: Shortest path. Period. It seems like there is no way to change this and it results in complex rail systems becoming a war between the amount of auto signals you can place on a track and where the pathing wants the train to go. There are many situations where I have ran into issues within my network simply because one train prefers to cross 5 other train lines, rather than go wide and avoid blocking the path of the rest of the rail system. Although this can be solved eventually with constructing extra auto signals and assigning each line a pre-meditated track, it seems silly for a train network to use beeline pathing for early-game trains rather than have a way to select specific lines the trains can run on. As aforementioned, this can technically be mitigated later on in the game, but it does not solve the problems you run into facing this during the early game. Also, it is very hit-or-miss where and how signals on lines are detected, as some signals can be selected as full stops where othertimes a line parallel to it will not be able to be selected as a stop, which makes fighting the auto-pathing somewhat more infuriating.
Needless to say, the quality of the game itself is, again, very very high. It just seems that there are some hitches (of which, two I've described above) that allow me to recognise how this game is a very well made game that is simply difficult to recommend to a new player uninitiated with network-style games like these, and for that reason I may keep playing the game (or will wait until progress has been made) however it still is not a game I'd share around.
Be a train dispatcher
One of the best logistics game I ever played. 10/10
This is one of my favorite games these three years, which has been constantly improved all this time. There is not much to say here, purely economic rail dispatch games are practically absent from the market, it is a narrow niche, but if someone likes it, they like it forever.
The only thing that saddens me is the feeling of abandonment after the release. Maybe thanks to positive reviews, dear developers will be able to pay more time to this unique project and give it more love.
gud
gud
I failed the tutorial multiple times. I think this game will be good
For people who like Factorio, Satisfactory and any other automation game, this is something to play. Even though this game is not nearly as polished UI-wise and in many senses it still feels unfinished, the core gameplay is really satisfying and addictive. When you planned your network well and you just see them navigating without errors autonomous, it is just a joy to watch. Some areas of the game have a steeper learning curve, and some external tutorials might be necessary, but it really pays off in the end :)
I want to like it - really.... But after 4 hours still not getting what the "tutorial" is wanting me to do and starting over and over again, I give up. I am too stupid for this I guess.
I was excited to get this game and have had my eye on it for a long time, but it has one of the worst tutorials I've ever seen. I'm not going to play a game where I have to guess at what the tutorial might have meant to understand any of the gameplay or UI (or even complete the tutorial!). That doesn't sound like fun.
If you're really interested in this game, I recommend searching the keyword 'tutorial' in the discussions before buying, so you know what you're getting in for.
