Calico is meant to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The gameplay reflects that with a laid back, low stress creative environment to explore and play in.
Character Creator

The Calico character creator will allow players to create their own magical person to experience the world through. There will also be plenty of clothing to choose from and collect throughout the game!
All Animals are Interactive!

The player will encounter many animals in the world of Calico. Once befriended, you can name them, add them to your party, or send them to their new home at the café. Animals in your party will follow you everywhere you go and listen to your commands. The animals in your café will relax and play with any customers that pop in for a visit.
Café Decoration

Your task in Calico is to bring the town's café back to life again. This isn’t just achieved by bringing in cats and animals alone, however – you can also decorate your café with furniture of different styles to create the perfect cozy home for you and your animals!
Cooking Minigame

Create a wonderful café by making yummy baked goods and drinks for the townspeople! Learn about your follow villagers to pick and choose their favorite foods to sell!
Magic of Calico

We wanted there to be no limits to how you could find happiness in Calico. Magic potions are a system that allow us to break the rules of what is possible and to find what would be most fun. Example: the More-to-pet Potion allows the player to magically turn a single animal giant-sized! You can hang out with a giant animal, or even ride a giant cat!

I really like how chill and cozy it is. the outfit coloring is pretty interesting. starting a second play through now that I have the new content. the cooking is fun, don't much like cooking in other games, but this one is fun.
Really, really cute. It has some bugs but honestly, it did not bother me because it did not interrupt game play. It was just clipping of one or two animals in the world, which was really funny! The story is superb, and the gameplay is pretty smooth. It helped me feel relaxed and cosy :)
The graphics are calming and fun to look at. The world is fun to navigate and it's nice easy cozy game play.
This is probably the most ghetto fabulous game I have ever played. But I would still recommend it. As a matter of fact, I cannot stop coming back to it >_<
Let me explain...
It is like a B grade horror movie. You know that one with the corny acting and shady screen production but you end up enjoying the whole thing regardless? THIS IS LIKE THAT!!
It looks and feels unpolished and unrefined. But it is charming to play, despite all that. The aesthetic and gameplay are just downright wholesome and cozy, even with it's imperfections.
You run a cafe, meet townsfolk and animals. You run around doing little quests, playing mini games to bake and stock your shop and you can decorate your home and character to your liking.
The controls feel janky at first but they grow on you. There are minor bugs here and there but they are resolved easily with some trial and error, a hard reset is never needed. Literally takes me 5-10 sec to solve it. Most of the time it is just you hitting an odd camera angle or the timing of your action is off or you get confused with buttons. If you slow down, the screen and quest log usually can guide you in the right direction.
It is all around cute and relaxing. Just take it for what it is...a ghetto fabulous, B grade game :D
I started this game during a particularly stressful season in my life. The unexpected silliness, adorable animals, and overall charm enabled me to fully relax. I often found myself giggling and making my husband stop whatever he was doing to look at each animal I found. I adored every second playing this game and appreciate the love and care the devs poured into it. I give this game 1 giant cat/10 tiny cats.
i love this game sfm. it's perfect, it's so cute, it's a joy to play. i love the aesthetics, the mini games, the wacky moments where it's just clearly a silly lil game made with love. the recipe minigame? magnificent. riding a giant cat around??? what else could i WANT IN MY LIFE. i know there are only a couple wonderful developers working on this, but i would love to see multiplayer in this game or another in the future cause i stream it for my friends quite a bit and they just wanna get it on the action and frolic through fields on giant animals with cats on our heads. thank you for this perfect little pocket of happiness
im not gonna lie, i loved this game so much! its a very cozy and relaxing game! and even though its relaxing, you're still able to have fun without getting bored. i think i loved all the animals and everything you can do in this. i mean i only played it for 12 hours, but i think that was like 3 each for four days LOL... i enjoyed it, i got all the achievements so im thinking about getting the dlc! its fun and nice to play so i recommend it for playing to distress or just for whenever :3
It's very cute, unfortunately I just can't enjoy it when it's so buggy, crashes, the controls are awkward, and in general a lot just feels unfinished. Would give it another go if they smooth things out more but for now it's just not enjoyable for me to play with all the bugs.
Calico is an absolutely charming and cozy experience for anyone who is looking for a peaceful environment, free of any survival mechanics, and all friendly animals that you can befriend and pick up to live with you in your cafe! The gameplay consists mostly of fetch quests from the villagers scattered around the map, with nice progression for unlocking the different areas.
If you love the style in the trailer, you're going to love the game. One of my worst fears in games is accidentally hurting the animal companions, but there's no such thing here! You can pick them up, they can follow you on your quests and you don't have to worry about a thing! It's the ultimate cozy game with no time limits, no survival, and no right or wrong ways to do things. You can decorate your cafe to your heart's content, and have any animals live there in harmony. The OST also blends beautifully when you're travelling the different areas, which was a lovely touch to the immersion!
The controls did feel a little clunky at times, but that's also because I didn't realise you could toggle the sprint... whoops! One downside I did notice was all the baking minigames felt impossible to get a gold star on, which if you are a perfectionist like myself, might bug you slightly. There was also a checklist task for the DLC that I couldn't remove nor complete because I didn't buy it, which did confuse me at first when I went hunting for a nonexistent mailbox! Very minor detail that doesn't affect the gameplay at all.
If you can look past that, there is a world of animals just waiting to be met and pet!! The game took me around 9 hours to get all the achievements while just playing casually and having fun exploring the world. Would definitely recommend!
OMG ITS SO CUTE!!!!
meow
I really love this game. I know some said that the game feels unfinished, but I love it for what it is. It's a cozy game that I just run around petting cats and other animals while building my cafe while collecting recipes, clothes and furniture. Some may not enjoy it since the game itself isn't very long. But, I play it when I am stressed and want to relax. I'm also excited they released a DLC for the game. I hope they add on more DLCs in the future.
It's cute and fun, but short and slightly buggy.
Really cozy and cute game. A bit glitchy at times. If you encounter a bug, you have to save and quit to the main menu then load back in. Playing with all of the animals makes it worth it tho. also don't buy the dlc if you're expecting a lot more. it's just really quick side quests that add a few animals but not much. still I really liked the game!!
Removing All The Trees Removes Joy
You know, this game really does have a lot of potential. I played this game over a year and a half ago on a friend's platform, and absolutely fell in love. So when I saw "neat things", I decided to buy it for myself. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot I love about this game: colorful and relaxing aesthetic and play, easy to learn, charming villagers and animals, not to mention inclusive characters and body positivity. And I absolutely LOVE how you can (for the most part) modify your character to your heart's content.
And I love the creativity of the mini recipe games, and (without giving away too many spoilers) how they incorporate cat behaviors into the recipes in very cute and clever ways).
But seriously, remove ALL the trees? I've heard this was to make the game more "cute". I"m sorry, I disagree. The trees added a sense of softness and peace. Also, the trees surrounding the cat cafe made it look and feel all the more cozy, like a little cottage just at the edge of the woods. Without the trees, everything feels hard, barren, and it kills the feeling of space. And you're supposed to explore the island as you play, but what's the point if there's nothing to explore? Plus each region of the island had unique trees, making that place feel all the more special.
Aside from this, there seem to be more bugs as well: characters enter through the wall of the cafe, rather than through the front door. The cats also try to enter through the wall, but get stuck. So you see just there hind ends halfway through the wall (not in the least the relaxing vibe I think the creators were going for.) The cats jump on the cat trees, but are actually skewed so they are laying on flat air next to the cat tree. Oh, And there is a bug if you try to go down the waterfall, that nearly got me stuck forever.
Now there are some changes that I did like, such as the snowballs to throw, the interactive mini game in the arcade, the interactive claw game, and collecting hidden items. I wish this could count more. Were it not for the lack of trees and the rather noticable bugs at the cafe, this would be a great game.
A few other things I would like to see: This is a game about a cat cafe. So why is the cafe itself treated like an afterthought? Expand the display case, in a way so that you can display more food at once, say up to twelve items. What is the point of buying additional display cases, if they only copy the same six foods? Also, the ability to expand the cafe, so you can hold more furniture, and increase the cat capacity.
Also, more nuance to character interactions. You basically get three interactions with each character, and then there's nothing left to talk to them about. I'd really like the ability to make small talk with characters when they visit the cafe. Talk about the owl club and their flower gardens, talk about stuff going on in Cutie City or the Onsen. Did anybody visit the lighthouse lately?
Also, the cat toys and ability to pet and interact with the cats is nice, but how about more incentive to actually make sure your taking care of them? For instance, you could have to make sure to pet and play with all the animals in your cafe to keep them happy. And to keep track of this, the animals in the cafe gain or lose "happy and healthy" points, depending on how much attention you've shown them that day. Give them food and water every day. Maybe have characters visiting the cafe pet the cats from item to time? Also, how about being able to hold cats in a natural way? They're not a sack of flour.
Lastly, show, don't tell. Don't have a character just tell me the photo-shoot or party went well. SHOW me! Even simply playing a video clip of the event with the characters acting it out, heck, even just a series of snapshots of the event that took place would be better than a character simply saying "oh yeah, it went great."
Hold to wiggle animal.
First things first, the game is full of bugs. I've played it both on amazon (because I got it for free there) and then again after I bought it on Steam because I wanted the achievements. Sometimes achievements unlock early (getting one of every creature unlocked for me before I was even on the beach, meeting every villager unlocked WAY earlier) others don't unlock (I got every creature and it didn't unlock, had to restart the game, reinstall it, start a new game and THEN i got it) and the new cooking minigame is way worse than the first one they had. The DLC has some issues, the puddles you have to jump on are bugged on my save and disappear as soon as they show up, when I tried restarting my game, the whole rain cloud went missing and I couldn't find it anywhere on my entire map.
Oh yeah, also I couldn't find a setting for sound?! No volume buttons ingame at all.
But it IS a cute game and worth it's price. You will spend five to ten hours having fun at least, and it's very customizable in every way. The animations are a little wobbly in a fun and cute way, and the animals are adorable.
very fun and cute! had such a good time playing it. I wish there was more quests for me to complete and also i wish i could ride the giant calico cat in the witch forest. this game is great overall and i would play it all over again! :)
This was my favorite game until they changed the cooking minigame. Now its too complicated and frustrating and makes me not want to play the game at all. I hope they'll add an option to use the old cooking system. Until then, no update will bring me back, sadly.
amazing game :3 so cute and so chill. love this game downn

I can't find my inventory. It's the first thing I'm supposed to do in the game, and I can't find it. The whole game also really looks bad, and the design elements are harder than I'd hoped.
i recommend this game - BUT ( and a very important but at that ) only if the aesthetics and the cuteness is something that immediately draws you in at first glance. i love this game to bits despite the poor controls and physics and its many bugs and glitches, because the many many cute animals you get to play around with make it all worthwhile for me!!! you mean i get to put a bunny on my head ?!? i'm sold. also i am a sucker for fetch quests which this game has plenty of, and plenty of cute character designs too. i wish i could wrap myself up in this game and never leave... but really make sure to get this game on a sale, it's too buggy for its full price as of now :(
Love everything about this game. It's cozy and adorable!
It has a good idea but executed poorly. The game feels very unpolished and has a good few bugs. The quests get repetitive very quickly and decorating the cafe flt very cumbersome and off putting to do
Lazy, not much to do, clunky cooking minigame, if you really like the jiggly animals just buy Wobbledogs.
The neat stuff DLC should've been an update, and then MAYBE the game would be worth the price. For now this plays and looks like a Roblox game.
Calico:
A game about magical girls on an island surrounded by wildlife. The player gets to create their own character with a pretty decent create-a-character system and run a cat cafe and talk to different villagers to complete a set of quests (three per villager), meet and own different kinds of animals, bake several goods by completing different mini-games depending on said baked goods, and (depending if you bought the DLC) interact with several things around the parts of the island that make it feel more alive. You can beat the game between 8-10 hours with DLC included and earn 13 total achievements.
Pros:
-Relaxing cat game
-Cute and unique graphics
-Decent amount of gameplay
-Good music
Cons:
-Controls feel clunky
-Achievement system is glitched (locked me out of the "Animal Expert" achievement)
-World feels lifeless (DLC helps)
-Animals don't stay inside cafe (they walk in place at the door outside) and have a tendency to spin
Very good game. Bought a copy for my partner and are doing our run at the same time. It just feels like an unfinished product
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODITS SO FUN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE
The shaders impressed me, not so much the tri-linear mapping but everything else.
Also animals :]
Edit:
The bugs are one of the things that makes this game endearing,
but I draw the line at Achievements,
I shouldn't have had to follow a yt video to circumvent a bug.
If it's an Achievement, make sure it works.
Comments about the bug are old so it's not ever a new issue.
Fix Vibes the cat not loading in please.
Some others minor bugs are:
- Can't escape bed.
- UI becomes disabled.
- Ingredients fall under the cauldron and bounce infinitely making it impossible to continue.
QoL: Escape should ALWAYS exit the current UI being stuck in furniture mode is frustrating.
Still, despite all, 9/10
The cooking game was fantastic i would play that as a full game for hours. There was one cat "Pudgems" who was beautifully animated and I turned into a horse, I loved walking around on him. I didn't get anything out of the fetchquests or the different areas you can unlock, everything felt empty. the animals walk in little circles like sad zoo animals and it felt bad to kidnap them.
The game is also janky but nothing really hurt my experience beyond the blinking quest for the DLC i didn't have.
great game. great cats
I REALLY want to like this game. Truly, I do. But when I can't use my controller because my mouse keeps constantly glitching back on screen, and I can't use my mouse because of general wonkiness, I simply can't get behind it. I'm going to try again in a few months, maybe, and see if the controls get optimized. Fingers crossed! It has potential, but it's definitely not there yet.
Very cute, love Pudgems
I really want to recommend this game, because the premise is fun, it has a lot of cool ideas, and the style is charming, but it's in dire need of polish; just moving around in the game feels bad. Turning slows you down, so unless you go in a straight line and turn like a robot it's very hard to go exactly where you want to, plus you auto run if you go straight for too long and I couldn't find a way to turn that off.
You can toggle run, and choose to run everywhere but this doesn't really fix the turning issue, and the game never tells you it's even an option so you would only know if you did it accidentally or checked the keybinds.
This all wouldn't be a huge deal but it is an open world game so you are walking/running around all the time.
There are also a ton of other issue, like the animal pathing not being great (they keep getting stuck next to my cafe door), one tried to follow me while I was doing the baking minigame, the toy is hard to use, I had a pulsating notif to check my mail and it turned out I literally couldn't because of a bug, etc. etc.
None of these are game breaking, but they all contribute to a noticeably worse experience that left me wishing the game had more polish or was a little less ambitious or something.
If none of that sounds like a deal-breaker for you than by all means go for it, I think the game has a lot of heart and I desperately want to enjoy it but in its current state I just can't.
I haven't played for very long but I'm having a lot of issues with the game. The controls are confusing and unintuitive. When you open the game it says it plays best with a controller but then gives keyboard and mouse instructions. I can't find a way to display controller instructions. I also don't like that as far as I can tell, there's no way to fix the camera on my character.
Music 10/10 Baking games 10/10. It's a super smooth and relaxing game with zero punishment.
3D models went through walls and wall paintings floating in the air...quests not so clear, might need more hints.
Overall, love it. It's like one of those SLH hotels - surprisingly good, definitely nothing like those main stream games.
Don't get me wrong I love the game but ever since I first played I got so stressed by the fact that I could NEVER get a perfect score on the cookies. The time was always never enough, and I tried recently, (because maybe I was just bad at the game when I first tried) but I still only ever got silver! I just think it would be nice to give more time to bake, I like to play games to 100%, but it's impossible to get a good score on some baking levels. Still, if your in the game just for a short cozy experience it's amazing! It's cute, silly, and one of the most cozy games I've played. Overall It's great, but I would love more time to bake.
I give this game my recommendation with a huge asterisk: it's not for everybody. It's very bare-bones, even with the DLC, and mostly consists of fetch quests, simple puzzles, and mild platforming. The cooking minigame is more fleshed out, but can be obtuse and money is hardly an issue in-game anyway. Glitches abound. The music is repetitive.
BUT.
The diversity in the cast is fantastic, with charming and varied designs. Finding random animals is always a treat. The cooking minigame is a lot of fun despite the tedium. The game is gorgeous, if not very high fidelity, with lots of colors. And if you have some friends on board to laugh at the glitches with you, it's a hoot.
Again, I recommend this, but only if you fall into the admittedly niche subsection of people who can take the good with the bad.
cured my depression
its so cuteeee. really fun story and ideas, a bit clunky sometimes but so worth it
This game is so cute and lovely! It is an excellent game for beginner gamers, and anyone who loves cozy things!
love this cozy game♥
this is the only game in my library i have 100%ed. i wanna bite into this game like a cookie. i want everyone in the world to have this game. pure. kitty.
Everything I've ever desired in a game 🩷
the game is great!! very cute & i love designing my own cafe. i do wish there was more to do in the game because i feel it’s very easy to complete and then there’s not much to do anymore :( but i do love the game and i rlly enjoyed my play through!! <3
Fun cutesy game ^^
yes i recommend. the game is relaxing, cute and fun. I really enjoyed baking cookies and making drinks. riding a giant cat and carrying animals on my head, the game is just adorable.
I saw this game in a video and wanted to check it out. First of, the controls are super wonky. Is this girl drunk?
Then, the baking minigame... I mean, yes, it's quite an unique approach, but it's still bland. Just like the whole world... yes, it's cute, but so repetitive, and especially the edges are hideous. The animals... they are basically dead. The walk around randomly and you don't even have to earn their trust. You just pick them up and be like "go to the cafe" and they're like "okay whatever" and do it. Why? A cat wouldn't just walk around idly if I run at it at full speed, neither would a raven or a chicken. I know it's a cozy game, but it's just so bland...
I can imagine that this game has potential with several patches and changes, but it has a long way to go.
It says you CAN play with a mouse and keyboard, but it is unplayable. I don't want to have to buy a controller just to play one game.
very cute game and unique
super cute and cozy game. it's pretty short so its nice for a small boost of dopamine
