About the Game
Dracula: Origin reveals the dark origins of the Dracula curse. Once the ardent defender of Christendom, Dracula loses his faith in God when he is abandoned by his one true love after she marries. Dracula then makes a pact with the Prince of Darkness, and becomes a vampire. As time goes by, Dracula discovers the existence of a manuscript that allegedly details a rite which brings damned souls back from the beyond.In Dracula: Origin, the player takes the role of the famous Professor Van Helsing whose life's aim is the destruction of Dracula. Van Helsing must stop the vampire from finding the manuscript. A rich adventure that takes him from London to Egypt, Austria and through Carpathian Europe right into the terrifying home of the Dark Prince.

✅ stunning looking and detailed graphics which aged quite well

❌slow character animations. main character also can't run and slowy walk everywhere
❌the resolution is fixed at a 4:3 aspect ratio and can't be changed
❌janky mechanics in the first map puzzle. you have to draw precise connections between different places on the map; otherwise, it didn't trigger to the next scene
❌most puzzles require some sort of esoteric knowledge and thinking. that makes the puzzle solutions really obscure
❌some really time-wasting and tedious-to-solve minigame-type puzzles
❌iffy english translation with odd phrasings
❌very linear gameplay. If you forgot to do something, you'll be stuck.
❌there are no steam achievements
Overall, this is hard but a decent and enjoyable old-school point-and-click adventure game with a classic horror story.
Dracula Origins is a very odd point and click game. On one hand, the title? Complete misnomer. There is no origins in this. We start of extremely roughly in the middle of the Bram Stoker novel. Van Helsing, our player character, is trying to protect Mina and destroy a recently arrived Dracula. It proceeds to take several deviations from the novel, including a somewhat unexpected turn into an early 20th century American author's territory that I did not expect. (I try not to elaborate for spoilers). Its not too far out of left field to take me out of the game, but it is quite strange how much location hopping is in here rather than the original novel, which only had England and Transylvania as major settings. The tinge of other genre's of horror strangely works in this game when I think it would've been worse in other adaptations.
Our flavor of Dracula for this evening feels very much like a combination of Sir Christopher Lee and the Dracula in Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie. I do like the backstory they've chosen for him, illustrating that Dracula was just as monstrous as a man, as he is when he's a monster. He's not very redeemable but he's a fun antagonist. Van Helsing feels like a combination of Peter Cushing and Edward Van Sloan. It works for the narrative.
The models look pretty decent still. They aren't going to win any awards, but they certainly had some care put into them and therefore unlike other games of this era do not look like a potato. The puzzles are challenging, and the point and click elements are well done. I will admit though, I did need to consult a guide once or twice while playing through. The pacing is pretty good and it never feels like you are staying at the same location for too long.
I say if its on sale, go for it. Its a nice, classically spooky game perfect for Halloween.
Really love the ambiance and art style of frogware games. Some of the puzzle logic is a bit silly,like making a fake key from pretzels.But who doesn't love a bit of goof.
Time to go huntin’ – equip yourself with some garlic, a crucifix and a stake! And some serious puzzle solver skills… too impatient, I’ll settle for the card-drops, took 1,5 hours.
so i played this game years ago. it's good, creepy and pretty difficult at points. over all it's great for people who love puzzles. though fair warning the character models are pretty stiff for being 3d but that's cause it was when this stuff was still pretty new-ish. want to get the rest of the games from this dev cause games like this seem to be getting harder and harder to find.

I would only recommend this to people that really enjoy point-click adventure games. It contains many difficult puzzles, and it requires significant attention to detail. I stuck with it, because I found the story interesting.
I played half of the game then i got stuck onto a scene where i was supposed to get a dialog box with a character in the game but nothing appears and i dont have any option to exit the scene so i cant continue the game. My only option now is to watch the youtube walk thorough and enjoy the story. Also the puzzles are incredibly hard and u cant skip them, without the help of youtube walk thorough i could not have solved most of them. The game is not very intuitive, u cant guess what to do next and how to play the game really, is difficult to deduct things, a hard game to play in my opinion. Just disappointed cause i cant continue to play, maybe they sold it this cheap (0.99 euros on sale) cause they knew it's broken, not sure.
