Good game, you can do toot toot for hours, great song variety, you can mod it, and it doesnt take more than 17 to platinate it
Never have i been Hooked by a Rhythm game as much as this one simple and straightforward gameplay with some nice humor, Truly an amazing experience.
Very worth whatever price.
I don't really understand the appeal of Trombone Champ if you can't play it with friends. There's no online mode and you can't play couch coop because the game has no controller support (mouse and keyboard only). It's really a shame that the devs couldn't find a way to make the game more accessible to groups of people, outside of streaming it to an audience. It's perfect for friends to laugh over together but unfortunately, that's not really possible.
As a single-player experience it's funny for about 30 minutes but then it gets boring. It isn't like other rhythm games that present a lasting challenge by requiring some skill or technique. Trombone Champ is very superficial in that sense and is purely for the lols, which I can't enjoy with friends.
I'm going to keep the game because I got it at a heavy discount and a cup of coffee would have cost me more. But I doubt I will play it more than once or twice. I will give it this, though; it's a really funny idea and well executed, in the presentation of it at least. But... I don't know, you couldn't find a way to make it enjoyable with other people? Really? Just feels like a missed opportunity.
JUST BUY IT! Wow! what a fun game to play! Great for a date night to play with your S.O.
The song selection is great and only expands more if your into modding. SO much fun and hilarious.
Brilliant game about Baboons. Story is brilliant (yes this game actually has a story)
Truly a masterpiece of our era. I never knew true happiness before picking up this game. The English jargon has no words to truly capture the essence of this magnificent work of art.
It's soooo good! Sweet, short and fun! I'd say it's definitely worth full price.
Trombone Champ takes a very meme'd on instrument in the music community, the trumpet, and turns it into a very chaotic yet cohesive and entertaining rhythm game that continues to maintain a very tight-knit community. the base game itself is great but holy crap the modding community for this game is on a whole other level. i love when communities with different interests and developers can come together and expand on a game that is already oozing with so much personality.
Very fun and creative rhythm game. Very goofy style, can be 100% in about 5-7 hours. Great with a mouse even though I am normally a controller gamer.
This reminds me of my glory days of playing trombone. Granted even tho I suck at this game, it still sounds better than anything I had ever managed to play out of my own trombone. Worth the 15 bucks.
This looks like a ridiculous meme game, and while that's not untrue, it's also really well made and the most fun I've had in a while.
I will also never hear Thus Spoke Zarathustra the same way again.
5 toots out of 5.
Trombone Champ is probably one of the silliest, weirdest rhythm games out there. Definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of rhythm games and want to try something different.
I highly recommend the Switch version since that includes multiplayer, but the PC version has more accurate controls and receives relatively frequent updates that add more songs and features for the game.
One another note, did you know an adult baboon can weigh between 248 and 704 hot dogs depending on the species?
This game is great on steamdeck, it is so much fun with gyro controls. Some have told me that's the worst way to play it, but honestly I think it's the most fun. It's not about playing the best it's about frantically tilting to approximate the correct notes.
pros:
funny, the hand/ear coordination is interesting to navigate, jumping up to a long high note and hitting it dead-on felt divine, was surprised to see Max Tundra so involved? that's a name I've not heard in a long time, glad he's still getting work. accurately lets you choose a pasty albino guy.
cons:
replaces a lot of single notes with bends for comedic effect to the detriment of the music, mouse direction was inverted by default for some reason, default audio latency setting was unplayable, had to lower the buffer all the way to make it feel right, mouse sensitivity was way too high for good accuracy had to lower DPI in mouse driver, lots of pompous marchy "farty" songs (again, for comedic effect) and not enough serious haunting songs, many of these public domain "classic" songs people have only heard the first few bars of, when the remaining 75% of the song happens it's like "what is happening I've never heard this part in cartoons before I'm completely lost", would've been better served by a medley or something.
felt like I experienced 80% of this game within the first hour of playing it. there should be waaaay more songs considering it's essentially just finding public domain stuff and creating a MIDI track in the engine for it and photoshopping some background graphics. not worth the full price unfortunately.
I'd like to see these same mechanics (minus all the bends) used to make a serious game with actually good music.
i flushed cards down the drain, failed a one star multiple times, knocked loudly and repeatedly at an old man's (trap)door and almost sacrificed my soul. great game very fun
It is a good game. However, the choice of songs are limited but for ones that are there, it is good.
The scoring is very generous, leaning towards a more casual rhythm game experience so its good for anyone who wants to give it a try. Something about the Trombone gives me the fuzzy feelings
The game is fun and practically the personification of a meme.
The gameplay is simple, but the difficulty can escalate to completely absurd levels. There’s a good variety of music, along with plenty of secrets hidden throughout the game. The graphics are simple, the sound quality is excellent, but the sound of the trombone and the horn definitely adds a chaotic touch, which ends up being quite funny.
There are also a lot of collectible cards to find. Overall, it’s a fun game to kill time.
By the way, I’m writing this review because of the Steam award, and I’m sure I can do better than this.
Very fun game, although I wish there were more achievmants. I also wish the story went further than it did but that only shows I wish there was more of the game, which is technically good? Very fun. Very goofy. 7/10
I've always wanted to be a Tromboner, but ever since the accident it has been difficult for me to put my mouth on the mouthpiece. This game brought that dream closer to home, with a rich immersive story to go.
Toot on friends.
UI mechanic are different than typical Rythem game, which is very unique. and the songs are mostly toward into classical music and also can learn the history of it
Toot out of toot.
Surprisingly fun to play and having a graphic tablet makes it even better.
A very good game where the whole thing is truly based on how you play, unlike other rhythm game where the buttons are random and make no effect.
A game about the most perfect brass instrument (saying this as clarinet player), Trombone Champ was a lot more fun and difficult than I thought it would be. The tracks are engaging, but also challenging as they progressively keep getting more and more difficult. The humor was totally unexpected, but extremely welcoming and gave me a few laughs. I totally recommend this game, even if you aren't a musician, because trombones are hilarious.
I haven't played for a while, but my band director showed us this game and I really liked it. I would 100% recommend if you have the money.
Mod the game, that gives it full experience
This game is 100% a toot, not a turd!
It takes a bit to get the hang of the mouse 'slide' but if you've played any type of rhythm game, the 'tooting' clicks/keyboard taps are like any other. The game lets you hit whatever KB+M button you want to toot the trombone so you can figure out what's most comfortable for rapid toots.
The general aesthetic of the game is really charming; there is a hidden story/lore involving baboons, the loading screen tips are hilarious, and there are plenty of poopy fart tromboner jokes scattered about. The main menu UI is colorful and reactive, feels very 'Nintendo' if that makes sense.
And modding the game/custom tracks is a single Youtube tutorial away from meme songs/backgrounds/extensions.
The only complaint I have is that the gameplay itself can be.... nauseating? I'm confident I'm not the only one who feels the eye strain/dizziness after staring at the horizontally scrolling notes. I look away from the screen and everything is spinning. The game allows for a slower 'scroll speed' but it impairs accuracy as the space between notes is harder to judge, so while I've had fun playing the songs, they've admittedly given me motion sickness.
I get a similar feeling from the vertically scrolling Guitar Hero/Clone Hero, but something about the notes going from right to left gives me more eye strain. Idk what the solution is really but this is me giving potential players a heads-up that difficult tracks go FAST and you might get dizzy.
Other than that?
Braap! Toot! FARRRDDDD!!!!
This is a soft negative review - Trombone Champ isn't terrible, but I'm not getting a lot out of it. I could see it fun for a few songs when you have some friends over and can laugh at the silliness of it all, but as a solo music rhythm game it wore out its novelty very quickly. There's only so many times I want to play a trombone version of a national anthem/old classical music.
I also tried playing with different control schemes, on PC and Steam Deck, but ultimately didn't find a mode that was comfortable.
12/10 gameplay, lots of fart jokes
Once you stop laughing, what can you say? Definitely entertaining in short bursts.
tromboner? i hardly know her
this game funny ig. 100 percent is really easy but kinda weird. idk this game lowkey scares me its kinda freaky. 6/10 :)
A rootin' tootin' good time!
The game play has a bit of a learning curve to it, but the nice thing is that you can progress through the game's story and secrets even if you're a poor tromboner. The humor is the best part of this game, it'll give anyone a good chuckle. It's fun to just sit there and toot your Trombone!
Pick it up today!
Im like the coolest person at school because of this game
i love this game and i love you too and i love the world peace and joy forever i cant breathe!
Extremely fun rhyme game and awesome remixes in classical songs making them interesting to play through. The Devs also keep adding new songs to this game still making it awesome to come back to and play through more!!!!!!
100 % later and I still want to sacrifice every last inch of my body to Babi
the fucking clown song is in it 10/10
Fun, challenging and will make you laugh. There is some surprisingly deep lore going on here too...
What an absolute delight of a game. I can't even remember the last time I cackled with glee playing a game. It's fun when you're starting out, flailing desperately to keep up, and it's equally satisfying as you get better. The songs are extensive and varied considering you're playing everything on a trombone, and in the event you ever get tired of everything you get here, there is an extensive mod community because of course there is, with a seemingly limitless selection of custom tracks.
This is maybe the strongest recommend I've ever given.
Toot Toot motherfuckers.
toots is good
poop IS funny. fuckin grow up
Absolutely adore the humour in the game, I just wish there was more playtime in the game, since I pretty quickly 100%'ed it. But it was a great experience nonetheless even if i was a bit late to the hype
This game gives me a HUGE tromboner
Modding this game is awesome
brap brap i am tromboner brap brapppp
This game isn't perfect, but it doesn't try to be. The writing and comedy are goofy and bad in the good charming kind of way (much like the concept of a trombone rhythm game). Good fun if you like rhythm games in general but don't come into this expecting a serious or intense experience. If you generally enjoy stuff like guitar hero or osu, and you find the idea of someone trying to fumble their way through William Tell with a trombone amusing, you'll have a good and memorable handful of hours with this.
Consider picking this up if you have enough to spare, and if it's on sale I would just give it a go.
When I feel down, trombone always cheer me up
I highly recommend this game. The story is a trip (yes, there is a story), the game play is silly, and it's the only game I've seen where you can play 8-bit trombone as a baboon. Whether you're great at rhythm games, or you're awful at them, this will be simple fun. On top of all this, the accessibility options are vast so truly anyone can enjoy this game to their full capacity.
Getting the 100% wasn't too bad. Getting all of the S tier rankings of songs is a bit of a grind, as well as collecting all the Tromboner (heh) cards for those final few achievements, but outside of that getting the full 100% completion was a fun experience :]
