combining careful planning with relaxing gameplay.
You’re not just matching blocks, but you’re city building at the same time!
The buildings on the blocks can be combined into larger, and special, buildings.
It’s a simple rule but there are hidden complexities,
and as the years pass each move plays an important role.
Your decisions will decide the city's future -
develop your city step-by-step to make a "SubaraCity"!

Subaracity is a cute puzzle game. Bright graphics and overly epic soundtrack (Picture yourself doodling with crayons with some baroque sacred aria in the background). My god complex loves the music as I merge blocks and create a better, more imposing block.
Is easy to pick and learn, a perfect time waster ^-^/
Graphics: Cute Pixels ★
OST: Epic ★
Learning Curve: Easy ★★
Steam Achievements Quantity: Not ludicrous ★★★
Nerd note: Subaracity (Subarashitii) is a portmanteau of "subarashii", meaning "wonderful" or "amazing" in Japanese, and "city". In fact was the clever name what caught my eye first.
I am definitely the biggest SuburbaCity fan I love this game I played the hell out of it on my Nintendo switch I have over 50 hours on it on my switch and when I got my steam deck I wanted to buy it for it but I didn't know it was on there until a couple months later When I decided to check again and found it I definitely don't play it as much but this is a great puzzle game I am a sucker for puzzle games Not only are they addictive they are great for your memory. $5 is a steal for this game even $15 would still be worth it
In my opinion, Something is missing from this game, the music. When we play on the 3DS version, in the middle of the gameplay we can swicth song or music that we want. Not on this steam version. I hope that the next update the developer will add more music for this game like the 3DS version soon, for free (yeah seriously). Because thats what made me bought this game.
Game-breaking bug at the early game. Known for years, never fixed. Requested refund.
Game is broken. After a few seconds of playing, the game stopped working. I could not progress further. Tried to restart the game, but it does not help. Restarting the level even leads to the level not showing but when I click somewhere I'm asked if I'm sure I want to remove that tile.
Fun for what it is, but very limited. So limited, in fact, that I already wrote a guide which I expect to need no upgrading, based on less than two hours of play.
The core of the game is falling blocks of four types (three in casual play) which are defined by the type of base. Each has something on it, a person, a tree, or a building, and as they merge they level up to level nine.
At level ten they all change from their original type to a white base, and can only merge with (any) other ten. Clusters of ten can merge into higher numbers, but those are locked, creating a definite end to the game eventually. (NOTE: I attempted selling them to open up the map, but you lose the points for the building, so that's not a viable strategy.)
Everything falls straight down, and any pair of two or more of the same base type can merge.
There is a little strategy in where you opt to merge them, in hopes of creating more matches, but it is very limited. You also occasionally earn a Mayor figure that can delete one section, but they are pretty few and far between.
And that's it!
That said it is cute. The controls work fine, the music is some sort of angelic chorus which is pleasant enough. I would certainly call it family friendly, and would probably entertain a small child who isn't too jaded, as well as an adult looking for casual game play that requires more thought than slots, but less than candy crush.
An easy thumbs up.
ADDENDUM: Five hours in and I think I am done. I haven't unlocked everything, but I'm not motivated to either. It was worth the money, I got it on sale.
This is a very satisfying puzzle game that's relaxing and addictive. It took a few games for me to understand the rules but it's quite simple mechanics that anyone can get the hang of.
I was always interested in this game when I saw it on the 3DS a long time ago but never went and bought it. It was lost in my memory until I saw it a few months back on sale and here I am reviewing it.
Subracity is a puzzle game that mashes match-3 and Tetris gameplay together into something that feels brand new. It's harder than match-3 but easier than Tetris, I would say. By clicking on blocks with the same colour in the same vicinity, they stack into bigger buildings that can be combined with others to maximize your points. You have to be careful of running out of matchable blocks, because destroying blocks costs Mayor Points and you have a very limited supply of them. It's easy-to-learn, hard-to-master game play as getting to the higher scores and cheevos takes practice and strategy.
Read the only bad review of this game, i end up buying it for testing. turns out its the same as the Switch version. Hasn't encountered any freeze or hiccups. Worth a try. don't play the mobile version.... its full of IAPs
Gamebreaking bug in the beginning makes further progress impossible.
As soon as the game suggest I should "Try and make a Lv 10 Block", it accepts no more commands for merging blocks. No mouseclicks, no button pressed on the gamepad, even using the keyboard doesn't advance the game any further. I tried to save and reload the savefile, but it had no effect on the error. Restarting the application didn't work either. This occured on both casual and normal difficulty. As this stands now, I will have to refund this game.
Shame, really. I play the version on the Switch a lot (because it is fun and it works). I cannot recommend anyone playing the PC Version of this game right now.
Update 2024-07-15:
5 years have passed since I wrote my review and refunded the game, and the problem still has not been fixed. It is very clear that the developer abandoned any further development, patching and bugfixing for their game. I would love to hear from other players if it runs better on other platforms compared to PC. Thank you in advance.
(3DS version runs great as well, but is no longer available for purchase due to the Nintendo eShops on 3DS and Wii U being shut down)
