You might be indignant of my non-recommendation based on the number of hours I have played. Those hours came from idling the game on accident. I probably will finish the game just because, but I would never recommend this game to anybody that I liked. It's basically like if slay the spire were *really* really bad.
I can't give this one a thumbs up, but not for the typical reasons. It works just fine, it just lacks the intangible aspect of being 'fun'.
The art is okay, the animation, near non-existent, the controls work fine, but the music is that kind that sounds nice at first and is grating on your nerves within a few games. Luckily you can turn it off.
Where the game really falls short though is that there isn't really much of a game. I have a deck which you have very little control over, adding cards a little at a time, but with no way to remove a card.
Each round you get one more action point, which leaves me with nothing to do much of the time, having no useful cards, or no cards at all pretty often.
And there is no story of any kind, your avatar doesn't even seem to have a name.
The monster selection is scant, though they do vary to some degree, some heal, the nasty little goblin can back stab, etc. Even the werewolf wasn't really interesting though.
It doesn't help that the English is broken in a way that on at least on occasion left me uncertain what was going to happen, not a good thing. I figured it out pretty quick, but even a little uncertainty is off-putting.
I think I would sum up the shortcomings here as the game feels unfinished, almost insultingly so. Little things that would have made so much difference, and required little effort were left out.
For example, given the minimal animation, a variety of avatars would have been very easy to do, in fact, giving us the ability to pick the bits and pieces we wanted to put together would have been little effort.
Allowing for a once-per-turn jab, to avoid turn after turn of inability to do anything seems an obvious addition. A simple map would have been something to draw the player in. Things like this, the fluff, stuff which has less to do with programming and more to do with creativity. Almost all missing.
In the end all I can say it, it works, but what it does simply isn't that interesting.
I just uninstalled this game withouth finishing it.
I just couldn't get pass the 4'th raid no matter how many times I tried hard.
Card Brawl is truly a bad game, and I will tell you why.
1) I really don't like games where you can't save your progress. The game consists of 5 raids (like chapters), each raid has a progressing number of battles ( 8-10-15-15-20). Once you start a raid you either beat all battles and thus finish the raid or your progress in that same raid is lost and you must start all over again.
2) It's the first card game I played in which you cannot build your own deck. At the beginning of each raid you chose from a few uninspiring deck classes which are all very similar and make little or no difference in how you play the game and whether you will have more or less success. So basically you just use the preset boring decks.
3) Each battle you start with only 4 random cards, which is too few, because your success in a battle is based on the very cards you draw in the first couple of turns. Also, the decks are made of too few cards in the beginning of raids (something like 10 cards). After each battle in the raid you get some money so you can buy new cards, but you must spend your very limited money wisely because you must also spend it to expand your max health points and also buy healing for the lost health. So you have little amounts of money and you don't know how to spend it because you need all 3 things.
4) The game mechanics sucks, it is based purely on luck. There are only 3 types of cards: attack, armor and boost. Enemies are very irritating and cheating because you got goblins who ignore your armor and stab you in the back, you have lots of monsters who continuosly heal themselves and their allies and increase all their stats...which makes the fight a battle against time. Most of them you should kill the sooner the better, but the problem is....if you are dealt bad cards in the beginning of the fight you just can't. For example, since you start the battle with 0 armor, it is critical that in the first turn, or the second turn...you get some armor cards. If you have bad luck, you will have no armor cards and the enemies will decrease your health points so quickly that the fight ( and thus the raid ) is all over.
5) So, there is no strategy, no tactics in this game, no need to use your brain. It is a very simple card game with basic boring cards ( "you attack for 5", " you heal 3 points", "you get 20% boost to attack"....), that is completely based on circumstances.
6) The game is frankly - boring. It is so low level and unoriginal that I had to force myself to play it in order to finish it and in order to justify the money spent ( ok, it is brutally cheap, but still...).
So, to conclude, this is a very cheap game that I got for 0,49 $ and the quality reflects the price accurately.
Maybe it's not roguelike (after restarting there is no difference)
it's very simple card game where there is no reshuffle after the last card (not like in the Monster Slayers).
You can play with different deck after finish the campaign but you won't.
Pros:
- Easy to learn, simple card system
- Graphics is ok
Cons:
- I hate the randomization in store when I want to buy a card
- I HATE the 'do not take a card' button
this is the most annoying part because you lost your money and you don't have new card (WHAT ???)
- there is no "normal" options menu
- music is not bad but it's very interesting the relaxing music when you are fighting or dying
- I can't check my deck when I want to buy a new card
- you need some luck to finish the game, not only skills
(It's cheap so perhaps some are excusable)
Card Brawl is a poorly designed Flash game. It's based on a one-time deckbuilder where you add cards to your game.
Gameplay-wise,
Conclusion, Card Brawl for $0.55? Eh, that's alright. But the animation, the random monsters and the lack of any story makes the game a cheap Flash game. It can get better though.

CONS
Less spectacular than Solitaire on Windows 95
Card Brawl is a rogue-lite (?) battle card game, resembling in some aspects a REALLY cheap knockoff of Slay the Spire.
You start with a preconstructed deck, fight enemies using the card mechanics (e.g. attack with offensive cards, defend with defensive cards), gain rewards (new cards for your current deck, gold to buy heals or more cards) and go on to the next fight. Although this can make for an exciting experience with a lot of replay value, it just doesn't for this game.
Everything is just too bare and basic. Your attacks are mostly just attacks, some apply a debuff to the enemy (damage over time or damage reduction) or allow you to draw more cards, same with defenses. You can buff yourself for more damage output, either for the entire duration of the fight or just one turn. Also you can play cards that only allow you to draw more cards, without any pesky side-effects. And that's it! If you don't like thinking too much in your strategic card battles... why do you play them in the first place?
There are different types of enemies, which all work different, but are not very diverse overall, especially early in the game. You'll face some tribbles and after that it's more goblins than you could ever handle. Just too many bland goblins! Perhaps a mushroom man here, a piranha-plant there, but nothing to really make you approach the game differently.
The visuals seemed so nice and brightly colored in the screenshots. While I still think of the art-style itself as quite pleasing, the design is unimaginative and forgettable. The animations are rigid and lifeless, although I didn't really expect much in that department, considering then price of the game.
Sound-effects are okay, not very pleasing or spectacular, but at least they are there. Basically almost every action makes a sound, which takes away a bit of the feeling of silent lingering doom as time slowly crumbles into an inescapable vortex of blandness. When you start up the game you are welcomed by a calm melody played on acoustic guitar, which is kinda nice... until you actually start playing. As far as I can tell, the melody never stops. Apparently there are more tracks to this game, really good ones, but, as far as I have played, it is just one loop that slowly drives you insane.
I initially bought this game for the bright and cartoony presentation, it's cheap price and for it's genre. I wish I didn't. Don't bother, go outside and watch grass grow instead.
Though I liked the graphics style the game did not involve enough tatctical decisions for my taste and the animations were terribly slow with no way to speed them up. So most of the time in this game is spent waiting for the animations to finish. It felt that boring that I would not even bother playing if it was for free.
I can't understand the bad reviews - this is a hand drawn card game, with music, for fifty cents.
I think this is a good game. I got to the third raid - I will be back.
It's not terribly complex, but it's paced well and it's fun to build different decks in it.
Really enjoyed this game, even though you don't get to keep your cards or gold in between the different raids. This didn't make sense to me since the final battle of each raid awards gold that you don't get to use. Lots of strategy involved throughout, though.
One thing that did seem a bit perplexing is why the monsters, specifically the mushrooms, could heal beyond their max health and you cannot, especially since health DOES carry over in the raid battles.
Another perplexing situation was the use of "max mana level 1" and "max mana level 4" cards. I used the level 4 max mana
thinking it would increase my max by 4, but instead it dropped it from what it was down to 4. This definitely needs to be adjusted somehow for future players.
Would love to see additional raids, new monsters, or new cards in a future update. Also, those in-between battle screens that let you choose to refill hp, double max hp, or get gold should function as checkpoints for longer raids. Several times I had to stop what I was doing in game to go take care of other things and had to put the laptop on "sleep" mode so I wouldn't lose my progress when stepping away for quite some time..
Would definitely recommend to anyone that likes mana-based, battle-centered card games.
Not great. Like a VERY basic mix of Hearthstone and Slay the Spire. You get 1 mana per turn up to 10, and draw one card per turn. Then you can buy new cards or regain health in between fights.

This could be a good game but wow. on easy its hard and very bland. no story no nothing just kill monster so u can go kill another monster. the only loot is crap cards that is worst than the starting cards....healing is a joke....even $2 is a waste
Not bad... there are better deckbuilding dungeon sims like this one out there, I won't lie, but then almost all of them are so inexpensive, and if you're like me where you love this sub-genre to a point you just crave new and different content, this definitely is perfectly servicable gameplay that offers something new if you're too burned out to keep playing other titles in this niche. I feel an important thing to point out is that it's a bit more complex once you're in a ways? Not only the tutorial, but the first mission includes some reduced options regarding gameplay, so it's got more depth than you'd think once you get in a little ways. Most of the problems I have beyond that are rooted in the fact it tries to do some things pretty different than the norm, and it was maybe a tinge over-ambitious since some don't work super great, but the game is functional despite these issues, so I won't fault them getting a bit too experimental.
Definitely worth trying if this is a sort of game you know you enjoy and would like more of.
If you're considering your first foreay into this niche... maybe consider starting elsewhere? But worth coming back to if you liked it (also a solid option if you've strapped for cash to get something pricier)
Very interesting and fun to play indie game. Very low cost, good art style, and fantastic background music
This game looked pretty cool in the trailer... But when it REALLY impressed me was when I actually played it!
If you are a fan of turn-based RPGs, a fan of deck building RPG games like Magic the Gathering, or just a fan of well made strategy indie games, then this game should be well worth the price of admission for you!

I scored this game at an 85% and with a couple of minor changed suggested to the developer in my above video, this game could be up at a 93% on my score card! ..Very impressive for a $2 game!
Simple enough to understand quickly, but offers enough strategy and replay value to make it fun and enjoyable, yet challenging as you progress through the levels!
Well done to the developer!
An interesting game, fans of card games should like it.
