7th Sea: A Pirate's Pact is a 200,000-word interactive adventure novel by Danielle Lauzon, set in the world of the table-top role playing game 7th Sea. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Looking for adventure at sea? You’ll get more than you bargained for when you end up joining a pirate crew. These pirates are known among sailors for having their own moral code, one that is now yours. You'll have the chance to rescue prisoners, uncover a secret plot, and even build a navy to liberate an island fort full of slaves.
But you'll also be tempted to break your pirate bonds to seek your own gain. Would you still free the slaves if you could take out your own rivals instead? How far will you go to save your friends? And when you uncover corruption in your homeland, will you choose villainy or vengeance?
Earn your crew's loyalty and they might make you their captain, but get careless and you might have to walk the plank!
- Play as male, female, or non-binary; gay, straight, bi, asexual, or poly.
- Choose from three different nations as your homeland, with distinct stories for each.
- Romance other pirate captains, or compete with them as your rivals.
- Fight for good, or work for evil.
- Lead a rescue, uncover a secret plot, and defeat tyranny.
- Visit various island nations to win them to your side and build a navy.
If it's the pirate's life for you, what will you sacrifice for freedom?

Apart from a few lapses in logic, such as a large ship being able to sneak up on another on the open ocean in the middle of the day during clear weather, I enjoyed the read and found most of it good. (6/10)
I dont recommend the Game because of one flaw that sadly can not be changed:
You have to know and play the Tabletop RPG it is based on.
Otherwise you will be completly lost and unable to really enjoy it.
Just like me.
Having run a 7th Sea tabletop game, this was a really fun return to the universe. Good stuff!
Super fun. Brings the setting of the 7th Sea tabletop rpg to life in a big way.
The best way I can describe this one is 'meh'.
Positives:
The strong points of the game are what I guess most of these type of games have. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few endings to it, some setting descriptions captured my fantasy, I found most characters to be ok.
Negatives:
Smaller one:
- A couple of times it felt you only have the option to say the same thing in different ways. Occasionally they also didn't make much sense. Since these were few and far between I didn't mind them that much so it's almost just an observation.
Bigger ones:
- Choice of Games are very PC which I'm not a fan of, but I learned to accept it. To me the others I have played also went on with this in a better way. An example is that I don't want to read that the captain of a pirate ship is asking for permission from the MC to kiss them after they willingly followed her into her private chambers. I want her to take the MC and throw them on her bed. It would have been a lot better to ask the reader what the plans of the MC are or what do they want, so we can still keep the PC part and the captain of a pirate ship wouldn't need to sound like a wimp either. I expected a lot of flashbacks from and the general mood of Black Sails but it was shallow unfortunately.
- Generally speaking.. I just played with other Choice of Games that had a lot stronger writing overall.
This is by no means a strong no. If you are currently in the mood of playing a game with the pirate theme then it might be your cup of tea. It just didn't spark up much of the fond memories of the TV show mentioned above for me, so I was unable to really get into it.
I liked this game. It was a bit short-ish but still manage to get you from beginning to end without losing itself or the reader. The LIs were not particularly endearing but they also were not annoying or obvious add ons either. All in all if your looking for a light read for an hour or two before you go to bed, this story could fill that need.
This is a pretty good game for a relatively compact story size. Apparently it is based on a tabletop RPG called 7th Sea. You get to choose from 3 different backgrounds at the start that determines your initial reasons for getting mixed up with the pirates in the story. Some have claimed they didn't feel that the pirates acted like the pirates we know from history. They are forgetting one important fact: the game is set in a fictional universe, NONE of the place names have any correlation to our planet and its history. Also, it is based on a role playing game (RPG) and those tend to have people act more honorably than they would in real life. The game has several ways to explore the story, making it worth the money. I have one personal quibble with A Pirate's Pact: during the attack on Fort Freedom later in the story the right decision is harder to pick out since they all sound reasonable. I picked one and everything went bad, but I didn't feel like starting over again. A recommendation as long as you understand what you are buying.
Eh, it's an okay game. It is well written especially with the action scenes. Started a second run through and the premise of the story was too similar for a game claiming the background change promotes multiple playthroughs. Also, it is very odd that most of the characters are female. But it's a fantasy world, so maybe all the men are meekly in this world because a lack of testosterone? Who knows. Anyway, catch it while on sale and it will be worth it.
Pacing got weird for me, started with a solid moving plot that then slowed down for some world building
This interactive novel is a fantastic use of 5 dollars! I loved every minute of it and as soon as I finished I wanted to start over to make better decisions in certain places and find out what paths other choices would take me on. The writing is incredibly well done and the choices actually feel like they make a difference. It's also worth noting that I have only a basic knowledge of 7th Sea and I didn't feel like that diminished my experience. Seriously, this is a great game and I 100% recommend it.
An entertaining visual novel set in an RPG world that I quite enjoy. Plenty of choices, plenty of options, and very good writing.
This was a very fun game! I've only done one playthrough so far but will probably do another one in the future. I really liked the story and the characters though I was a bit sad that the romance was such a small part in the game. I romanced Lex and I would have loved to find out a bit more about them too. I didn't know going in that one of the romance options was nonbinary but I was very happy to see that once I got in the game! I also loved seeing so many women characters throughout, especially in places of power!
Having went through multiple Playthroughs and gained every Achievement, I feel I am now Qualified enough to make a proper assessment of this title.
I feel 7th Sea: A Pirate's Pact is an okay title to the CoG Roster. Not the best title or the best Pirate title for that matter, but a bit better than some and lesser than others in that regard.
The World: Low Fantasy. Not very Vibrant, but lifelike enough that I could immerse myself in it and feel like I was in another place & time. Reminds me of those old romanticized paperbacks about life at sea my grandmother used to read when I was a tyke.
The Characters: Good. The author has a knack for bringing Characters to life with her descriptions, tho not always in what I feel is the best way. But we'll get to that later.
The writing: Solid. I ran into like 2 errors with a word being repeated twice but nothing Major.
Story: It's alright. I personally couldn't bring myself to care about the ultimate goal of saving my kidnappers lost crew members or my supposed best friends parents, but journey not destination, right? The action scenes regarding defeating sea monsters and the particular bit of interesting business with your Love interest if you go to the Dark Side has me looking forward to a sequel.
Gripes--
The World is too overrun with Women in positions of power. Author needs to get that in Check. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing at all for Women to be in Positions of power, but not 95% of the time. My Mother is the Most powerful Admiral in my Country. The Leader of my Country is a Woman with a Female Lover. My initial transport Captain is a man but the real Power and Respect is held by the Female First Mate. The Pirate Ship that Boards my Transport is run by a Woman, as is the Pirate Ship that comes to save Me. The Pirate's Head honcho is Woman as are all the Pirate Captains I meet along the way. The Leader of the opposing evil ATC faction is a Woman. The feared leader of the independent Country of La Buca is a Woman. The Other two Independent Countries I asked to Join me are similar in this regard in the fact that while they have men in leadership positions such as King & General, those Men are made so they aren't powerful enough to lead on their own like the rest of the women in the story. The Male King has his power checked by the Female freedom fighter that controls all the armada of his country and the Male General of the other country feels like a token as he is outgunned by 3 other female leaders in their democracy. Ect & so on.
Add to that the fact that the men with their token power are detailed as having delicate feminine features such as 'glistening tears in their eyes' every time they get thrown a curve ball and story characters mistaking Women who look like them for the actual person and it becomes somewhat of a glaring issue. It's not what I would call offensive to look at, but it's not really a good look either, same as if it was all men in positions of power and the women all had masculine features. Mix that up and Diversify.
My next gripe is on the Genderless Romance option, Lex. You enter into a relationship with someone and they are going to want to know how you Identify one way or the other going forward to see if you line up with their particular preference. Having someone only refer to themselves as Them, They, X keeping their ID from their partner is ludicrous. Now I can understand the motive behind this-- Let the reader decide with their imagination the Gender of this person. The intent is all well & good but the execution is bad as it leaves any personal story too Oblique. This could've been done better by simply having a prompt allowing you to refer to Lex with your preferred pronoun and the game recognizes it from there.
My Next Gripe is with the way Pirates are portrayed in game. And keep in mind, this is just my personal opinion. But the pirates are nauseatingly PC to the point of vowing to never hurt a living soul who willingly surrenders, never dealing in flesh, never gambling for money and even having a retirement package plan for any member of their that gets hurt pillaging & plundering. That's right, Thieves stealing from King/Queen & Country to the detriment of their respective homes have a Charter to guide their oh so prestigious moral compass and literally shed tears about every bad thing that comes their way. Asinine imo. Pirates are greedy, ruthless, treasonous, swashbuckling rogues and that is how they should stay. Thieves with honor... Yeah right. The very act of thieving is dishonorable in and of itself. If I had been forced to join this band of merry dandies I would've given the game a thumbs down for that alone. Fortunately I was not forced to associate myself with such shameful company so for that I am grateful.
That's it for my complaints. Overall It's an okay story. It does seem to be targeted more to women than men tho, particularly with how... feminine most everything is, but personal preferences aside, I certainly don't feel as if I wasted my time and I am looking forward to a sequel to see what happens next.
Story is captivating and not very exausting. Charaters are very well written, but I wished there weren't so many female characters. Overally I would rate this game higher than Choice of Pirates.
A decent enough little game. It's not quite the best pirate game by CoG, but it's a bit of a crowded field; Choice of the Pirate, Red Sails, etc. In all, I'd say it really does feel quite a lot like a TTRPG with a halfway decent GM. Some parts feel a bit forced, and others feel a bit glossed over, but that's often to be expected in tabletop. The romance options are decent, but not examplary; I remember them, but it's not like the love interests in Choice of Robots or Choice of Magics. The skills are usually pretty clear about what does what, though combat skills can get a bit confusing if you're not familiar with 7th Sea; To be wholly sure, I had to do a bit of googling. In all, I do recommend it; it's solid all round, though it's not quite on the level of some of the other entires by Choice of Games.
Overall, it was fun. It had an engaging story, many choices to be made, and was decently open. It could have been longer in my opinion, but at least there were some alternate paths that increase replayability. Gave me a few hours enjoyment.
I have played through the game several times at this point (I own this on steam and on mobile). I am very fond of the writing style as it keeps me engaged throughout the fast moving storyline. This is a must-try for lovers of 7th Sea and choose your own adventure novels. <3
Do you want to be a gay pirate? Do you want to be a non-binary pirate? Do you want to be a superhero pirate who helps others? Do you want to make deals with the villains and possibly become corrupted as a result?
If so, buy this game. You won't regret it.
i replayed it a few times but i noticed it felt off from the getgo, its a decent pirate game but it feels a bit more lackluster than other games of this type, while the dialogue options were there the results you wanted werent, its hard to explain and best thing you can do is play it yourself within 2 hours. main issue was i wanted to play as a full on anti pirate but most the story seems to force you into becoming friends with em.
another thing out of curiosity was that there were soooo many female characters, like most the time its a woman your talking to haha, , but that was just one of the things i noticed compared to other games ive played from this developer not a negative for me.
i wont give a rating buts its def a play within 2 hours if you wanna be on the safe side so you can still refund if it doesnt meet expectations. hope you can enjoy your purchase though if you do make it
Honestly the best Indie RPG I've ever played! I enjoyed every moment of this game due to how intense the story is written. If you love action, then this would be the game to play. 10/10
