Genuinely good idea terribly executed. Almost unplayable (so boring).
Barely recommended.
I have played my share of retro games and this one captures the feel very well, for better or worse. It has a decent amount going on with the simulation side giving depth to managing your homestead. Sadly, the keyboard only controls, lack of in game help and bare bones UI will turn away most. Price is cheap and for those who enjoy challenging retro management games, it's worth a try.
It is a simple yet fun game when you whant to just turn your brain off but still have a little bit of a challange overall I whould recomend it to anyone who whants to relax also cant wait for future updates
Controls are a bit awkward and the text choices will overlap making them unreadable at times
While the start is a bit rocky due to clunky UI/controls, and a poor explanation of mechanics, once you settle into the rhythm of the game it's fun. The core of the game is familiar managing and expanding your land to balance costs and profit. It has a few additional mechanics to manage (local party politics, stock market, possibly a productivity system?) that hold your attention, but never feel overwhelming.
The main thing the game could use is more info available, sometimes I would be losing a lot of money or producing very little grain and I couldn't really figure out why. Being able to track what's causing you problems and what you could change to improve it would make the gameplay a lot smoother I think.
Overall it's a fun little experience, progression is pretty quick and it's nice to look at, minus the weather effects (which can be turned off). Worth the price for at least a bit of fun!
How did I not review this game? Basically... for me... its a low tech city builder. Well, city is the wrong word. You have limited space, limited income, so you better plan accordingly. While the game isn't severely complex it does take serious though into making the best decisions you can.
The game is worth the price and is best enjoyed with the tv or youtube going on in the background. I chose seinfeld.
I like this game,I like the idea,I like the art(most of it),but the snow/rain are too much, you can't see anything when it's winter or raining, also, the font isn't that great, but it's readable, and another thing that isn't that good,is the shortage of wood, maybe it's just for me,I always have stone, but never wood, and if I want to buy it,just 10 pieces,ITS 1000$,it's way to much,at least at the start of the game. These were my complaints, but the rest of the game is cool,I really like it,and hope the developer could fix,or make a setting where you can disable the snow/rain and change the font.
EDIT:Forgot to say,THE MUSIC IS FRICKING SLAPPING,IT'S SO GOOD!
This is best game in the steam community
This is a pleasant little strategy game which, though lacking in complexity, requires more forethought than many other strategy games if you really want to master it.
Balancing the acquisition of resources and money in order to build an expand in a way always geared towards increasing the bottom line is neat to figure out and extremely satisfying to see succeed.
While the game completely lacks any events you have to respond to cropping up over the century of play (instability, wars, regime changes, INCLEMENT WEATER...), which I would say it ultimately needs to be a really great game, the stablitity of play makes the whole thing a more calming experience.
All in all, it's well worth the price. It should be good for three playthroughs: 1 failure, then success, then mastery. It's a rewarding experience.
The game could be a little more complex and the employe wages could be a little lower but over all its a great game
Great Estate Manager Game !
Graphics: 7/10 (Good) | Gameplay: 7/10 (Good) | Music: 7/10 (Good)
Total: 7/10 (Good)
Its worth every cent of its price.
Details
Inclement is a very addicting little farm management game with its very special style. Its graphics and especially its font take getting used to and the controls and menues are a bit fiddly, but after a few minutes of gameplay it is quiet fun. Its a great game to play while doing something else -- not requiring your full attention. For the most part you are waiting for resources to be gathered in order to upgrade your farm so you can gather more resources. Still its a lot of fun to see your farm grow and to progress through the different aspects of the game.
Given you don't go bankrupt, which at least in the beginning can happen a few times when upgrading things and raising expenses too early, this game can easily be finished within a few hours (including all achievements).
Overall playing Inclement is a very round experience and very addicting too. With this game one really cant go wrong considering its price of less than 1€.
Fontastic!
Lekker man
Simple and nice game.
Font choice is ok for me :)
From humble beginnings, in Inclement you set up to build a farm in the harsh wildlands of the north
This is a light strategy/production management game. You begin with a small plot of land, initially only producing grain and selling it in the town.
You can construct buildings that allow storing more grain, hiring more workers or otherwise increase profits. Eventually, you can buy more land and expand to cattle and oil business.
From micromanaging to the grander schemes
Initially, there's some micromanagement: while the grain, wood and stones (and later oil) are always automatically gathered, you at first have to go to town and sell your meagre grain stocks yourself. Later, contracts allow selling more grain (and oil) at once every few months (essentially required for larger quantities), and late-game merchant fleets allow you to ship them yourself, at a better profit.
There's some waiting, as the months and years fly past and you wait for the funds for the next building, upgrade or expansion.
The enjoyable, fitting set of string/piano tracks provide suspense, though there's only a real losing chance (due to bankruptcy) close to the beginning, if you overspend or otherwise expand too much before the revenue can handle it.
Indeed, the very late-game resembles an incremental/clicker game. It becomes rather repetitive: each upgrade requires building materials, so you go to town, buy them, upgrade the item and wait until funds replenish for the next cycle. But I think this is okay: by that time, the most everything has been done and the game is at the end.
Clumsy UI
Part of the difficulty comes from the user interface: the farm is navigated with WASD or arrows, left and right navigating the lands and up and down for the various menus. There's no mouse support nor native gamepad support.
There's relatively lot of options, so it's confusing at first. Most buildings can be upgraded, and the main building lets you go to the town, with an assortment of buildings with special options.
To get you started, there's a quest list that acts as a tutorial, but this becomes obsolete after a while since it keeps suggesting old stuff that's already done. Though after a bit this tutorial element has lived its need anyway.
This all takes a bit of getting used to, but afterwards it works splendidly.
Active developers
On my second playthrough (first to the end), I encountered a bug and couldn't build a second oil tower. This bug was promptly fixed, so thank you devs.
One thing that was confusing was that you can expand the farm by auctioning more land. You "bid" money until you win the auction. However, there's no feedback whether you're soon winning or otherwise making "the other side" sweat by your rises. So this could've used some improvement.
The End
Game begins at 1832 and ends in 1939. As the game goes on, month by month, you experience building up a striving farming community, with yourself as its lord.
Unfortunately, while the upgrades emergently simulate progress, the age and the technology could've been more integral part of the game. There's no events associated with certain years, unless the fluctuating prices are considered. This feels like a missed opportunity: especially various wars (like WW1) surely affected farming communities in meaningful ways.
I played it through thrice. There's a different ending associated with how far you made it before 1939. My first game (or maybe two or three) was a quick bankruptcy, when I overspent and hired too many workers. The second game I did well, but only in the third and last game I got the main building fully upgraded before 1939 and got the millionaire ending. Both full games lasted about about 3 hours.
All achievements work and can be gained in a single playthrough. Also, if you're mostly interested in them, you'll be pleased to know that for them there's no rush nor time limit as you can continue after 1939. The end date only triggers the ending.
Inclement is a fine, albeit simplistic, management game at a very affordable price (it's surprising it wasn't €5 at base). I recommend it, as long as you think you can work around the retroisque graphics and UI.
