Story
It seemed to be a normal day at Gray Bay. While law student Lisa was doing her part-time job in a pizzeria, a secret experimental project had made great progress in a research facility on the other side of the city, but later it was not proceeding as the researchers were expecting... After an accident at the research facility, a journalist, Max, was assigned to cover the news. However, everyone, including him, had no idea that the accident had leaked a virus, which was going to turn everyone in the city into an uncontrollable maniac...

I just finished playign this after "Desolate CIty: the last show" and I'm very surprised in seeing that he bloody Dawn is WAY better than the newest one.
Dialogues, easter eggs, riddles, systems and secondary missions are just way, way, better. I hope to see more games like this one.
TL;dr: a 2D version of resident evil 2, with interesting characters.
This game is a loveletter to 90s RE-games, ported to a 2D engine. It's a very faithful recreation of the atmosphere with many nostalgic elements like "door transtitions" and the health meter. Also the soundtrack is clearly referencing RE 1/2.
It can be rough at times with limited saving posibilites and a battle system works a bit clunky like most of it's kind created in a 2D grid based engine.
If you're however looking for your survival horror fix and you really like that retro experience, you should give this one a shot.

This game has lots of potential and a great introduction. As a fan of the Resident Evil series, I really liked it's style and little homages, like the door opening cutscenes. However, it doesn't take long for things to sour.
I've been saying since the dawn of time that real-time melee combat in RPGMaker is terrible and this game is no exception. It's a mess. Luckily you get ranged weapons pretty early on which makes the game much more bearable. However, ammo is scarce, which makes just running past the enemies the main and best way of handling them. This in itself is fine but the game quickly changes from what's supposed to be survival horror to a walking simulator. A very boring walking simulator with bland maze-like maps. It doesn't help that the main way of progression seems to be "Find key to door A, behind door A find key to door B. Repeat until Z". I get the sense that the dev(s) were trying to make a joke about old Resident Evil games and the millions keys they'd have, but it doesn't matter. It's not funny and it sure as hell isn't fun to play.
It also doesn't help that the game's story and characters are instantly forgettable. The writing is just...odd and not in a good or interesting way either (I get the sense this might be a translation issue. If so, get a better translator). And finally, while the sprite work and maps are fine (though all the maps look the same after a few hours), the bust and still art really is just bad, like MS Paint bad.
Suffice to say, once I came across the giant maze which is the main city where I was running in circles for a hour trying to find an apparently VERY SPECIFIC car battery (There were tons of cars in the city but the Player Character is too stupid to bother looking in them for a car battery) while also not being able to see anything due to the screen filter, I called it quits. My reviews are always subject to change in the future if I feel like giving the game another look but, as of right now, Desolate City: Bloody Dawn is just a very crude and uninteresting walking simulator that only has the nostalgia of a much superior game series behind it. Just go play the ACTUAL Resident Evil games instead.
Just finished my first playthrough on Normal difficulty.
Couldn't find a Handgun so I had to wack Maniacs with my pipe for half of entire game.
Combat Mechanic is a bit hard to control, You have to face the maniac and wait as they get 1 tile in front of you to land a successful hit, but those maniacs aren't stupid; they will walk zigzag and make you have a hard time try to hit them, sometimes block your hit, or sometimes jump across your head and try to hit you from behind.
I don't mind how annoying this mechanic much, I understand that the game probably want you to run rather than fight. As your speed is faster than them, and you can skip all boss fights until the final one.
The soundtrack is ok, Puzzle isn't too hard as you can always check for clues.
Overall I give this game 8/10
