A basically perfect game
This game has a lot of potential but sadly falls short due to lack of care.
While it's interesting for a bit there's several major bugs that have never been fixed and thus greatly hinder game play. The first one that I noticed most was invitations from characters not being able to be either accepted or denied, despite showing otherwise. It will initially say "accepted" or "denied" on the letter but then when you look at the calendar it's still waiting for a response. There's no way to get it to register for certain, as even saving, exiting, and reloading doesn't gaurantee it. If you can't get it to register you'll not only miss out on opportunities but lose favor with the character that invited you, which can only be earned back from random chance at events. Looking into it further, people have been reporting this specific issue since at least 2022 and it's still unfixed.
The story despite these things is interesting and having to carefully choose what to do each day does make it slightly more interesting as you can only do one action a day so you have to try and plan ahead for multiple happenings very strategically. The main characters each have their own personalities and quirks which is nice, they can also be made to be pitted for or against certain fractions depending on your choices which is cool to see.
The tutorials are just okay, they usually consist of a single text box near the thing you're trying to learn about the first time. They don't really help that much and you'll still have to figure out most of basics yourself, let alone the more intricate parts of certain aspects. The tutorials will basically explain the bare bones of what you can already see on the screen.
The designs of the dresses are pretty but they will repeat a lot, though the actual aesthetics don't really matter as all that's important are the stats of each of them and how much approval you'll get with any specific faction.
I would not recommend paying full price for this game, as while it has it's merits it has several glaring issues that don't seem like they'll be fixed. If you can get the game for under $5 I would say it may be worth giving it a shot as long as you can deal with the possibility of bugs appearing.
Absolutely fantastic game. Extremely interesting and varied characters, though you'll need a strategy guide to find them all (and pay for all recruitable characters). There's tons of replayability in it as you can go extremely different directions in any one playthrough.
Mechanically, there are some issues. it can bug out on occasion, and it doesn't always register when you've already met certain NPCs and treats interactions as first-time meetings. Nothing too bothersome, though.
Some achievements (like the one for finishing the game with any ending) are bugged and won't unlock, but again that's a trivial thing.
Well-written branching alternate-history Machiavellian French Revolution scheming simulator with a simple but compelling gameplay loop (where balls and soirées are a battlefield and your outfit choices are tactical) and a surprising depth of choice.
Much more nuanced and complex than it appears at first glance, and it has replay value due to the different possible paths, relationships and endings.
So fun, HOT PRIEST ala Fleabag
any dating sim where there's a serious risk of getting beheaded is a 10/10 from me
such a good idea to set a sim during a fraught period of history, and i'm mad there aren't more
while I had a grand time with the game, and the writing was quite good - especially liked the elisabeth path, very delicately handled - there were a few too many technical issues during my playthrough to in good conscience recommend it. on several occasions, including critical ones near the end, making a credibility roll would simply skip the rest of the event to the next day, which led the ending to be an underwhelming mess: sentenced to death one moment, writing letters the next... some events also simply failed to be produced despite meeting the requirements.
I do wish to say. however, I simply adore the excellent romanticist tone of the game, the art is good, and as I said, the writing was very well done.
I have yet to finish the game.
How ever, i do like all the different storylines. They are well written, and engaging.
the mechanics in the game was running smoothly until i declined an invitation in my 3rd hour of the game. Then i couldn't accept or decline anything - so i have restarted my game and started from scratch, which is fine, as i wanted to try again anyways, cause i made quite a few poor decisions..
- i will update if the same bug happens to me again.
i bought the game on steam sale for 6.99 pounds I think, which is a very good price for the game, but its been sat in my wishlist for a while, cause i feel the original price is a bit steep for what the game is.
- The design is beautiful, storyline engaging, but the mechanics of the game can become a dull after a bit and feel like you are running in circles.
