Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game. I cant believe they charged $25, theres barely any content whatsoever and the content that is here is repetitive, and boring. Im not usually so critical of games, and Im sure there was some effort put in here, but as it sits, I cant see myself ever playing it again after just a few hours.
This is not a game, it's a proof of concept, and it should not be sold for $24.99. If it were free, I still wouldn't recommend it. It's the bare-bones functionality of a twin stick shooter with no systems or mechanics that engage the player. There are a handful of skills that are poorly balanced, upgrading them does nothing but "more of the thing." There are multiple classes of guns, and any singular assault rifle is interchangeable with any other assault rifle. What's the point of having 5 differently named assault rifles if they're all the same? Yes, at some point, they come with "perks" which don't meaningfully affect gameplay in any way. As a matter of fact, there isn't much gameplay.
Yes, the twin-stick mechanics feel pretty good. However, there's nothing engaging here. The campaign consists of running from point to point, shooting some monsters. There are no in-depth systems with which to engage. Levelling is meaningless, getting higher statted guns is meaningless, boss battles are meaningless as skills completely destroy them.
So, the campaign is just run point to point and shoot some stuff then it ends.
The holo-chambers are: run through the exact same level, kill the same enemies, then kill the same boss over and over infinitely until you want to refund the game. I made it through 20 levels of this saying to myself "this can't be all that this game has to offer." Indeed, that is the case.
I thought that years of updates and a mostly complete roadmap would make this game worth playing. It's not. This is a proof of concept that some solo dev has worked on for 30 minutes here and there for years but didn't put any thought into actually making game systems that make players want to play.
Do not buy this. Do not play this. Do not waste your time. I wish I could get my money back, but I waited too long to actually try it after I bought it for the refund policy to apply. I don't know where the dev gets off thinking this is a $25 game. Consider yourself warned. This is a pet project, not a game.
The guns are terrific, the gameplay tight, and the environments interesting to explore. The game, however, does not yet have a save feature for the campaign. Sadly, this renders the game trash. Once fixed, it could transform into something great. Currently, it will leave you frustrated and disheartened, angry at the laziness of the devs to have not addressed this yet. Far too high of an asking price for a game breaking bug.
Plays ok on deck with some stuttering. Nice, fun and fast gameplay, but controls need a bit tinkering and haven’t been able to save my progress on campaign. 6/10
Only starting but liking it so far.
Gameplay feels solid, though the map/radar needs a bit of work. I wasn't able to follow objectives until I was withing its vicinity so I ended up wandering around a lot.
It works in Steam Deck with Proton Experimental, so there's that/
This game is pretty rough. There is a fun game here but.... at present (aug. 7 2022) very little to do.
If this was 1998 this would be amazing. Ironically marketed as twin stick play... keyboard + mouse way more responsive than controller. give this game some more time in the oven and it will be decent.
AAA First Class Twin Stick Shooter! Today in the year 2022, there hasn't been a AAA TSS in a decade! Every game in the genre is Bullet Hell Rogue copy paste types. Solar Pure is tight, smooth and plain feels great mechanic wise. Fast pace yet skill involved top that off with sweet, sweet abilities and stunning graphics butta bing butta bang butta boom the whole package! Now for them rogue like players the got a mode for that. In fact getting more epic with each update, the main campaign is panning out fantastic can not wait for the final chapters and finish touches. If your like myself and been on the hunt for a true twin stock with real meat on there bones Solar Purge is the way to go!
a scifi arpg that doesnt save progress. WTF? overhyped big time. Imagine diablo with guns, but your character doesnt save after you get off.
I wish for more guns like borderlands, a little risk of rain likeness, and online co-op features! Pwease. Its a good game, I beat the campaign so far up to the ice map with the generators online.
needed a good looter shooter and this is pretty nice so far. hope for the best from these guys to get it done! there isnt much to do but for what is there is nice and fun! lots of guns and loot to collect atm.
The game is fun. I like the fluidity of the game play, feels smooth. I can't wait to try co-op when the game is fully released. Definitely recommend getting the early access and supporting the devs on this one. I saw the planning for their updates and look forward to the next patch update. I do think the enemies are easy to easy to beat even on hard mode. I would like to see more chaos on the screen as I'm running and gunning but that's just my personal preference.
Pretty good, severe lack of content for now but more is coming. (Not all skills are implemented yet, same for maps/story) Buy it now if you want to support them, otherwise, I advise you to way.
I met these guys at PAX South in 2018 and the game has come such a long way from what they were previewing then. Its a fun game with progressional difficulties. They are constantly adding to and updating the game. At 25 i fell its a little high for where the game actually is in its development but at this point it is an investment into what the game has the potential to be
[Do note that this is an aging recommendation, as the devs have added a good deal of playable content that I haven't gotten around to trying yet!]
This game is very limited in the Stuff & Things department-- There's a very limited set of things to /do/.
But it seems evident to me that the reason for that is because they have spent all of the time so far making sure that the shooting and hit detection work like they should.
The result is a very smooth and satisfying twin-stick shooting experience... on either one of two tile sets-- jungle or tech-base-in-a-volcano!
But again, the core game is very competent. All they have to do at this point is build content around the very strong combat and they will have a real winner.
Although even if they abandoned it right now, I'd probably still come back and visit the holo chamber now and then.
Edit: There is a recently-posted roadmap including some campaign missions coming this fall, and the current public beta includes a third cave tileset for the holo chamber.
I'm a big fan dual-stick shooters. This game has a very solid interface built that is fun to play and provides a variety of weapons and play styles. I'd like to see a lower difficulty level to make it more accessible to friends on my sofa who don't play these games like I do. I highly recommend this game to fans of the genre. I can't wait to see what you do to it next.
So far so good looking forward to it's progression. (Gauntlet + Diablo / Quake)
Nice implementation of looter shooter-RPG elements. There is a lot of potential in this one...
Keep up the good work people, make this game memorable.
Game play is OK. For the amount of time this has been teased its very unfortunate that the content is vastly limited. The asking price is much too high for the Early Access state this game is in. Not sure why this has garnered so many positive reviews (most I see received product for free), as I find it extremely limited, and dull. Hell Divers, Alienation, and many others do twin stick shooters better.
Wait for full release before spending the $$$ on this.
Very interesting twin stick shooter with lots of potential. The team behind the game is really listening to players and their ideas for the game. I am excited to try the campaign and attempt to beat my current floor record of 57. Juggernaut FTW!
No save in the survival mode? One can't be expected to play continuously for hours if you never die xD And no way to come back in if the player 2 drops out by mistake...
The melee attack doesn't work sometimes. Is the execution class based? weapon based?
Weapon comparison could be better with an object dropped on the floor
Needs more work on variety of monsters
The Graphics settings got auto reset .
Heal skill glitched on the engineer one time. Had to buy another skill to swap to fix it.
