Goated Expansion
RTS classic near gets old
this one got more campaign quests. even with multiple endings. overall is ok.
Good campaign
Overall: 8/10
The best RTS. Would be nice if they redid it with better grafix but it is good enough as is.
fellas I'm gonna keep it real. The campaigns are HARD, especially If you're like me and can't micro a game of risk. However, that does not at all detract from how good the game remains, both in its mechanics and story. Absolute masterpiece, buy this instead of DOW 3
classic never get old. like those campaign and interest story. love those waaagh waaagh sound in the gameplay. for the WAAAGGHHH! FOR THE CLAN.
winter assault is. . . a little strange, i didnt enjoy it all that much sadly but it adds onto the allready great dawn of war formula
the campaign is a bit overwhelming for me due to switching between 2 factions, but having 2 seperate campaigns and shifting the focus to other factions is great
Santa Claus is coming to town in his baneblade

For the Emperor!
You know it's not needed to play DoW1 multiplayer. On the contrary to base game and Dark Crusade it's campaign not much likeable, yeah it's nice to play other factions in a story followed campaign but not well-prepared, thrilling they did for base game. Campaign is an event 4 race, Order (Eldar-I.Guard) and Disorder (Orks-Chaos), participated in it for their own aims You even prefer which race you want to get trophy, final round you can switch between races during game. Those it's uniqueness and promising something but story not flows well, playing as multiple races not not intagrated in gaming well particullary final round.
So Winter Assault a weak link among other three: Base game in W40 universe well-developed protagonist followed story, Dark Crusade collection almost all races in individual campaings and Soulstorm final appendix. It's nice to take a look Winter Assault in package of all DoW series but individually it doesn't offer something you'd gonna sad to miss out it.
Great old game.
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
New armies, new campaign, new issues, same solid gameplay.
This expansion introduces new playable armies, and the campaign does a good job of presenting the strengths of each unit. The objectives here are more complex than in the core game, which is refreshing. It's clear the developers wanted to try new ideas; however, it can be quite tricky to know which actions will trigger progress, making some missions slightly frustrating. Great addition to the core game. Worth at a discount.
the imperium of man my beloved
Where Dawn of War 1 pretty much nails the epic, heoric feeling of 40k, Dark Crusade has the best campaign, and Soulstorm has the most factions, Winter Assault often gets forgotten, but it conveys the feeling of gruelling war incredibly well and is a fun game, like all DoW games are.
That being said, the campaign in this one is incredibly difficult even on Normal for some reason, and many missions can go on for longer than an hour for me. The slow grind of the campaign is quite offputting, and turned me off to an otherwise fun experience. 3/10 there are way better Dawn of War games out there, and this one has a b*tch of a campaign
Ah, a challenge worthy of my skill
i got to kill eldars so that automatically makes it epic
Dawn of War Winter Assault is an expansion to Dawn of War. Allowing you to fully play as the Imperium in singleplayer and multiplayer. This expansion has 2 campaigns instead of one, the Order and Disorder campaigns. In Order, you to play as the Imperium and the Eldar. In Disorder you play as the Orks and as forces of Chaos. Both campaigns have 5 chapters, and the last 2 are shared between the campaigns but you play from different races.
The game is more difficult than the base Dawn of War, so if you're a newbie to RTS (like me) then you will die several times at some of the more difficult chapters. This also means that the challenging chapters are more rewarding, if you beat them. Moments are more tense and epic. Because of this difficulty,
I wasn't able to finish the last 2 levels of the Disorder campaign, so know that I don't have the maximum authority to review this game, keep that in mind. It was beyond my newbie RTS capability haha.
Objectives are more vague, and I have had 2 major moments when I didn't know what to do in the correct way. (Time for the funny examples:) In the chapter "No Retreat!" I didn't know you could spawn units from the webway gate as the Eldar, so I slowly did a few of the objectives with the Farseer leader by herself. In the chapter "Blood for the Blood God!" as Chaos forces, I thought the Sorcerer would automatically form into a demon to kill the Avatar of Khaine.
The Order campaign is some fun and enjoyable. But the Disorder campaign I found much more enjoyable, especially playing as DA ORKS!
The first level of the Disorder campaign must be my favorite, and no words could describe how satisfying it was to dominate and form Gorgutz's clan by destroying the small "WAAAAAAAGH!" camps.
In conclusion, this is a good but challenging expansion to Dawn of War. If you've finished Dawn of War, you should play this!
It now belongz to da ORKZ!
Do you hear the voices too?!
ENEMIES, we NEED enemies!
I can feel the warp overtaking me, it is a GOOD pain!
WE. MUST. KILL!
SANITY IS FOR THE WEAK!
Reporting for duty, sir!
By The Emperor, you WILL have it!
They KNEW you'd say THAT!
I already know what you WANT!
I'm all for difficult games, but this campaign is just straight up unbalanced. Kinda hated this one
Some missions are just crazy
edit: it is dogshit
it is worse than it can be
whoever designed the 3rd order mission can go fuck themselves
Fun improvement from the base game, but could just be nostalgia for me.
In the original game, you have 4 different races that COULD be played, but out of 4, only 1 can be played without becoming an heretic.
Well, look no further - finally you can play as an expendable human, willing to sacrifice its life for the Imperium.
The new class is wonderful to play - squishy units in huge numbers, but tanks the size of a city that can overpower almost anything.
The campaign added by this expansion is wonderful, leaving room for some epic battles and great narration.
i like it but what is up with mission 3? its like a 6 out of 10 so a good addition but nothing great. would of been much better if you just played as imperials but you gotta play as elves also wich i dont like if you play as order.
Not much I can say about it other than the campaign seems shorter despite you have 2 separate "campaingns" whilst also having alternate missions (like 1 or 2 tnh).
It still has the faults of the OG DoW, but a nice addition to the Warhammer story as a whole... I assume the community and I share the same idea that the "true" story is with the Cadian Royal Guard winning at the end, because... why wouldn't they? They're the Imperium of Man. XD
The Necrons was a nice surprise, however? They were not hard to beat... the thing about RTS is that, when you want to "build up everything" it takes a LONG TIME where you know full well you could just get the mission over with easily. So when I had maxed my army, artillery and tanks as well as a few layers of defense turrets? The Warriors and their slowness hindered them and the Monolyths? Tanks, artillery, and the titans guns took them out easily...
I assume though the multiplayer was at least enjoyable back in the day. :D
good game
This is my first time getting into Warhammer 40K and I had fun with it. Two parts of the campaign were confusing but overall I enjoyed it.
the first expansion for the Dawn of War series had me playing through both the Order and Disorder campaigns, where you take control of one of the 'weaker' factions. You can't just rush in and go all out—you really need to think strategically to win. Seriously, I mean it.
Adding IG to the game it's fun for the story and new inclusions to the game. Worth it.
Mission 4
friggin awesome
This game is awesome, but wont allow 1920/1080p or fullscreen, at least not with my luck. GET THE BUNDLE. Dark Crusade has all of the factions and allows fullscreen 1920/1080p, soulstorm is great as well and has the same settings as Dark Crusade with sisters of battle.
"For the Emperor" and "WAHHHH" are all unique and truly command the military and lead the way to victory Back then, gamers were crazy about these concepts and taught them what's fun but isn't 2024 going to be a terrible game like concord to tease the gamers?
Peak true guard experience.
Glory to the first man to die.
Order campaign is fantastic, though the story isn't as good as the base game. Imperial Guard are genuinely pathetic so you have to play tactically to win. More varied missions than the first game, including last ditch defence missions where you win by the skin of your teeth. The Eldar parts are gimmicky but contribute to the variety. The Disorder campaign is nowhere near as good and is a bit shouty and stupid. Sort of worth it for the Order campaign if it's dead cheap?
I dont get this game...no story...i just bought it cause de dawn of war had such a good story,..and played it was fun...this is a like a poor made dlc...after 20min of playing this i was bored.
Not sure what happened but I have played this for much longer than what it shows on steam and I do recommend this game.
an oldie but a goodie.
Very fun to have campaigns with different factions, even if it's only at certain times. Definitely one of the more fun games.
I really want to recommend this, but Mission 4 on both Order and Disorder are bugged, making them very unfair for first time players.
This campaign wasn't great. The constant switching between races was poorly emplemented. most of the Eldar units are annoying in their own right.
The good old GOAT
The first expac for Dawn of War, Winter Assault mainly adds the Imperial Guard as a playable faction and new campaigns to the game. The mission difficulty is slightly higher as well compared to the original game. All in all it is a solid addon if you enjoyed Dawn of War.
Very nice extension to DoW. The campaign missions are different, more scripted and less than usual games. This is refreshing
Kinda short, but you're probably buying this in a bundle so it doesn't really matter.
not anywhere near as good as the base game but still very good
