One of the best games among all genres.
Back in the day, this was the GOAT of warhammer games and one of the best RTS in the industry. The followup Soulstorm had some nice additions, but as far as great campaigns go this is the peak of DoW1. Let me tell, you after so many years, it holds up way better than it has any right to. It still looks great and plays great.

This game, YEARS later, is still the best Warhammer 40k video game ever made. An absolute gem. I'm not sure there's a better RTS that's ever been made either. Yes, Starcraft was bigger and sold more copies, but this is just as balanced, and with 7 races, compared to Starcraft's 3. Absolutely amazing game.

My first warhammer game.... ah sweet childhood
The original Dawn of War is one of my favorite RTS games of all time. Great Warhammer 40K flavor, and a fast-paced resource mechanic based around controlling locations. There's no turtling up and building an overwhelming force in this game. You have to get in and brawl.
Dawn of War isn't without its flaws but it's a lot of fun.

this game is kinda nice
there are few RTS games that reach the lofty peaks that DOW and Company of Heroes scaled in Relic's heyday.
Dark Crusade is maybe the best of the original ones - Soulstorm has good additions but adding in Flying units was never great and the campaign is too big, vs Dark Crusade's more contained one.
I've played DOW (all of them) for a lot longer than is listed here and i can only recommend it, it's not perfect but it's damn near close
Dark crusade scares me, the necron are just terrifying in this game, both in feel and just not balanced the best imo,
this starts the trend of reworking the dawn of war formula for no real reason, never the less the turn based style works for some and isnt anything amazing,

Sega! GW! Just hire the makers of the Unification mod to make a HD re-issue of this gem.
This game in 1 of a kind from childhood to adult i still play. We really need a new version of this same game but a different planet and better graphic more base building. It would be insane if you could base build like in AOE but with all the 40k factions.

Even after all this years, this game is still good... as a old good day. For my opinione, the best one from all DoW 1 series.
It's a pretty good RTS as an addition to the base game. However, I wouldn't recommend it as a standalone product due to the lack of any storyline. You could buy it on sale if you want to play a few games with the added factions.

Tedious, unbalanced and frustrating game where all but the earliest battles have to be run on a base-rush strategy as the AI opponents are not limited to the same rules as the player.

necrons are overpowered and my brother refuses to use anything but space marines so i find it fun

I would recommend, if you're getting this for the campaign you need to be aware you gotta do it in one sitting, shit corrupts itself or something, get Soul storm instead and play Apocalypse also Sisters of Battle
Liked the first and owned it, when it came out. Now, I can play anytime.. without having to spend so much money on figurines.. and also.. the lack of players to play with.

Just finished the game using the Titanium Wars mod, playing as the Necrons.
The new campaign system is okay. I was a bit disappointed at first when I found out it doesn't have the narration like the previous one, but it turned out to be fun and enjoyable. You capture and hold regions, some of which give you buffs. It reminds me of Total War.
The only downside is that it can drag on a bit, making it feel kinda tedious after a while. Some of the repeated battles can start to feel like a slog, especially if you're just trying to complete the game. I think you should blitz through it to keep things fresh and avoid getting bored. Overall, though, it's still an awesome game.
Soo lets talk real (semi).
Necrons? Grossly powerful... my first play though was with em and... honestly? Although I was on "easy" the IDEA a single Warrior has 9k health if they're specially trained, or nearly 4k otherwise is nuts... the damage they do is moderate, but since the warriors are free? FREE?! 150 some requisitions to get a full squad and when you get about 5 full squads they can practically steamroll everything.
Perhaps its me playing on Easy, and Necorns arent as powerful as I'm making it out to be... but to be honest? The only factions I seem to like are the Space Marines, Necrons, and Tau. Guardmen solid 4th choice for me.
Anyways overall? Plays like RISK, and its aight. I can imagine things getting REALLY tough on higher difficulties, but at the end of the day (despite watching videos explaining the different games) I'm kinda bummed there is no real "story" here unless I hop onto Soulstorm.
Back to mentioning Necrons... I've seen too many people who upload videos playing Dark Crusade with the intent on just conquering every bit of space as fast as possible... resulting in lands being less than optimal when they get attacked.
I've YET to lose a single defense because each mission I play I firstly learn the spawning (which usually takes me the second game on that same field, because as I claim all the points they disappear so that the enemy can capture them), and then I build up my defenses... FOBs of turrets and (using Necrons, Monlynths (butchering the name because Steam doesn't have "autocorrect.")) resulting in attacking forces unable to do anything AT ALL. Easy and effective.
Probably the best Dawn of War game, campaign-wise.

Well, that's one great addition to the base game.
Campaign is wonderful to play, the planetary conquest system feels out of its time.
The two new factions are amazing to play, giving you the chance to play different styles with unique playthroughs.
Great expansion for an already great game.

This game could be very good but its unbalanced af. The Necrons, Chaos, and Orks are way to OP as they build a huge army which is very hard to destroy. The last stronghold of any faction is also way easier then just a normal province, which should be the opisite. 7/10 but not balanced.
Love this game. I have both the steam and regular boxed version of this game. I have a ton more time in the boxed version. The variety between all the sides is incredible.
There are quite a few mods, They really spice up the game after you have beaten it normally.
It is a very enjoyable game, but please for the love of god do not fight necrons as imperial guard, you will never recover

Who doesn't like conquering a map. of course it does get very repetitive but hey you get to play any faction and take over a planet. Not a bad addition. you could spend many hours if you are a big enough fan. I am not so I am done. but have very much enjoyed what i Played.

Dark Crusade is the third expansion for W40K: Dawn of War, and is a stand alone expansion. It adds both the Necron and the Tau races to the game as well as a strategic campaign map for single player. On top of that it has support for higher resolutions than the original game. This is another great addition to the series.
They moved away from a story heavy campaign to a bad risk clone format.
This is one of the best RTS games on the planet. HOWEVER if you wish to pay with/against friends, make sure you all have the same OS. If try to play with some people on Linux and some on Windows, after about ten minutes people will start desynching and your match will break. (I do not know anyone who uses MacOS so I haven't tested that.)
I love this game. It is probably my favorite RTS. I give this that thumbs up with conviction! But not being able to multiplayer with friends after I got fed up with Redmon's crap and switched to LInux was a serious slap in the face.
