Initially, I was disappointed in the map being largely covered by an inhospitable mountain range. Still, it's content and scenery made up for this. Elsweyr continues the adventure that started with the Wrathstone DLC and is noteworthy for it's introduction of the Necromancer Class, making this expansion highly desirable. Elsweyr features several new recipes across the crafting portfolio including jewellery, effecting Homestead, trading, combat - which indicates a respectable amount of work detail and creativity.
The main quest continues into the Dragonguard DLC. Upon it's completion a bloody great host of quests becomes available. There's another free house that's unlocked through the year long story line. You will have the best time zerg-ing the enormous dragons or World Bosses here.
To summarise, highly recommended for fans of the Elder Scrolls - get into it.
Oh my daddy! This game is made to be played forever! The size of the maps will blow your mind, you will be confused of what to do or where to go right now, endless places to explore, endless quests to take, endless items to find, endless things to do. Good bye real life!
I bought this expansion at a great discount, so no complaints there, I was pleasantly surprised! Great story so far, dragons really kick butt! The only downside was the necromancer class; It feels just like a mage, nothing dark or sinister...overall very worthwhile expansion though.
The story and acting in this DLC is top notch for these games. Was bored with the base game as it didn't pull me in. This expansion though, it hooked me immediately. I also find the world is far nicer aesthetically than the average boring stuff from the main game. You also get a cool house for free if you finish up the quest lines and do some special tasks. I haven't tried Summerset yet, but I have played through a lot of the Morrowind expansion and Elsweyr is just better imo. The capital city in Elswyer is also great to navigate. I love the Khajiit backstory and the introduction of some truly beautiful dragons, who are fun to interact with from an angle where you are not the Dragonborn. 9/10 when compared to the games previous offerings.
As far as the game goes, I recommend it entirely, it's great, I can easily spend a lot of time playing the game and enjoying the vast open world this DLC has to offer.
My only problem and reason for not recommending it is due to the fact that if you own the base game, without any DLC purchasing the Elsweyr upgrade does NOT include Morrowind or Summerset. The only way to obtain it is through the crown store which is around $60AUD for the lot, whereas newcomers can buy the base game, with Morrowind, Summerset and Elsweyr all included for only $30AUD.
I was surprised at how much I am enjoying ESO:Elsweyr. I play mostly as a single player. Occasionally, I play with a family member. I keep a character for each so it's easy to pick up where I/we left off respectively.
It's a decent game set in the ES universe. Less immersive than Skyim in many ways, and the lore feels downplayed or dumbed down from older ES titles.
As for cons, the crowns are overpriced. Really. Come on. Many (not all) of the things for sale in the Crown Store should be obtainable in-game without taking your wallet out. Point blank. A good deal of the utility features are quality of life, for that matter. Also, limiting your inventory space until you pay to get a craft bag is another. That part is something to be embarassed about.
For the most part, you don't need to make a huge investment to play this game, but keep in mind that certain quality of life features are held hostage if you choose not to open up that wallet. That bit sucks, but it's a good game otherwise.
I paid $20 on sale for ESO. What the HECK makes this small part of the game worth $40? Plus all the other DLCs are an average of $20+ each. I have never seen Elsweyr cheaper that $29.99. Something funny here .. so WHY is Elsweyr cost MORE that the game itself?
Okay, so, first of all, this DLC is overpriced for what it gives you. But it is one of the best ones and the area is so amazing. The dragon fights are fun and challenging. The main quest is really good and it gives you a free player house that is really big. The necromancer class is really fun. Again the only complant I have is the price. Try to get it on sale. I say this DLC is worth 10 bucks at the most because It does not give you that much content. You might as well buy skyrim with the 40 bucks like I mean, come on, are they really that greedy? You can buy a full game with 40 bucks with tons more content then this DLC. They really should lower the price.
Half the DLC, double the price. This should be called "Northern Elsweyr" as the southern part of the province is paid for separately and is regarded as a separate DLC; really not worth the money.
The quests are OK but nothing special, and the dragon fights aren't that different from regular world bosses, so overall this DLC fails in that regard too.
Overall, if you want good ESO DLC either get ESO Plus to unlock them all, or buy Morrowind or Summerset, as they are much better value for money and are more fun than this (in my opinion).
Bullshit, i pay 40 dolars thinking IM GONA GET ELSWEYR?
well, i did get elsweyr
i got a small piece of elsweyr
and a house with a quest that i need to pay more money to finish, because the other half of elsweyr IS LOCKED BEHIND ANOTHER PAY WALL. dont waste your money on this shit
This game is Awesome. Yeah it is not perfect, many players complains about many things. But I think ESO is a great game for both PVE and PVP for both solo or group players.
Sometimes, there is so much things you can do that it can get overwhelming so I get it's both a good and a bad thing, depends on you.
I strongly recommend this game if you just want to explore, have fun, you can actually find really great guilds around and helpful players.
As with any game there are positives and negatives. Since this can be bought with the base game, comes with Morrowind and Summerset expansions, it's Completely and More than worth it.
Set before the other Elder Scrolls games this gives you a wonderful way to see the foundations of those legends. where those events began, and how they changed the land and people. Elder Scrolls is a rather unique MMO because of how much it lets you decide what to do. Not only can you take any of the base char classes and arrange skills in any way so you can have a death dealing healer, or a healing tank, but you can choose what quests you want to do when, or if you just want to farm and craft items you can do that too. It's all up to you.
Elsweyr by itself is not the largest expansion but is beautifully done and the dragons are rather breathtaking the first time you see them. They are powerful enough to make the fights enjoyable even for high level characters. For the lore, the extended fights, and since the price is in line with the rest of the DLC, (which is all rather high priced,) if you buy DLC, this is probably worth getting as it also includes the Necromancer class.
Necromancer class by itself may not be enough to buy the expansion. While it does have the uniqueness of having skills that make you think before using them as some are illegal in certain areas and will give you an instant bounty and heat, it's not overly impressive and rather typical of it's type.
I highly recommend Elder Scrolls Online overall and enjoy this expansion as well.
I had high hopes for this dlc since i really enjoyed summerset and morrowind.
But oh boy was i dissapointed.
The first thing i want to say that this DLC is extremly overpriced 40€ just for half of elsweyr and also the fact they will be releasing the rest in crown store is really dissapointing.
Now the necromancer
I don't find this class to fit much in this zone but that is just my opinion. The more problem is however is that necromancer is totally boring from what i expected and not really good. He has really BIG problems with sustain and also at first the class is buggy as hell. Oh yeah and they are considered as the worst class in pvp
Dragons are really big part of this DLC and they have a good role but the problem is that the dragons around elsweyr are extremly weak because of the population and i can't still understand why they haven't added any scale to the world bosses with their health. The concept of these new type of world bosses that show on map is really good but in the end the boss gets destroyed in few minutes.
I haven't done the trial because hey i don't really always have time to do it and don't have really anybody to do with it but from what i have watched it doesn't look that interesting as other trials for example cloudrest. The skin u get for completing trial on veteran difficulty is extremly disgusting and total ripoff of crystalfrost. The one good thing i want to mention that they finally added mount to trial and has really hard challanges to do to obtain it which i find really as good step in future so they add more mounts in trials or dungeons. Definitly great thing to collect for more hardcore players. (Now this part of review counts for only magicka users in pve to be specific false god set) Oh and once again this trial totally dominates every other piece of equipment in the game and it's the best one u can get so if u want to have better DPS.
At least the story is kinda good.
And soundtrack once again is great but that is pretty much in every elder scroll because hey it's by Brad Derrick. But still elsweyr theme won't be as good as ESO Morrowind theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-aUGjLBThM Only talking about ESO best soundtrack the best one is ofc Nerevar Rising and One they fear but that's from Jeremy Soule
Overall i don't think this dlc is as worth as summerset and i would just wait for sale if u really want this dlc.
I bought this game after I saw the commercials for Elsweyr. I have to say, since I used to play WOW for 15 years, I was a bit sceptic, but the game is definitely worth buying.
It has great graphics, great story line and great skill trees. There is so many possible variations of how you level up your character.
But for those who are thinking about buying the game, go directly with Full Elsweyr or even better collectors eddition. It is definitely worht the money.
I'm a old player in ESO and have experienced alot within this game, from all the DLC's i've played, I'd like this one the most because not only of the necromancer class but also the new storyline and a new year to come with other DLC's. You'll get a bit of flashbacks with the dragons if you played Skyrim before, and it's alot of fun that they're adding a whole new world for us.
Pros:
- New storyline in Elsweyr
- The newcromancer class
- New housing
Cons:
- Way overpriced than the original price of the game itself (but i'm willing to buy this because I support ESO)
- Still alot of bugs with the dungeon finder
- Smooth gameplay faded away since the new patch (lots of lags)
- A bit rushed creation of Elsweyr
All I can say is if you really like ESO you should buy this expansion, if you just came here to play but you're not serious about spending alot of time here in this MMO then you should not buy it. But it's definitely not worth 40 euro's/dollars in my opinion.
It all depends on each one of you, this is just my opinion about the game itself and the expansion.
I give the game in this current state a 7/10 (due to lots of bugs that are still in the game)
And because I've played ESO for so long I support the overall gameplay experience and the fun community I've played with.
We got another expansion so lets dive right in.
Good parts :
- Elsweyr looks somewhat good but mostly desert after all.
- Great Voice Acting as usual but thats expected from zenimax at this point.
- Dragons ? "YEY!"
- A new Trial "Sunspire"
- A new Necromencer Class
- Trial is made with new players in mind, it's fairly easy to clear and gives good loot, and also offers really good achivements that rewards the player with cosmetic goodies and tittles for Hardcore PVE people that wants to do it on Hardmore + Speedrun + No Death and such.
Cons:
- The Story line is short as usual (3-5 hours for Hardcore PVE players max 8-10 for non Hardcore players)
- The Side quests are not that much as well (max adds 3-5 hours for Hardcore 10 for non hardcore Players)
- The Elsweyr Treasure Maps bundle and Noble Clan Chief costume are Garbage as usual, some stupid treasure maps that don't give you anything that is worth something and the costume looks like it was out from a tribe somewhere in Africa... not my thing.
- This adds 1 Trial and some storyline that adds 20 hours of gameplay nothing else...
- Map size this time is not taken into considiration and it shows, it's not an improvement compared to other expansions.
Should i get it ?
The only reason you should be buying this expansion is :
- You want to play Necromancer
- You need to play Sunspire and get that Best in Slot Loot
Conclusion: As a hardcore PVE player this is a must have for me since I need to do Sunspire, if you are not a Hardcore PVE player that either wants the best from the game or just wants it for the Necromancer class... stay away from it honestly, also if you only want it for Elsweyr stay away from this as of this moment. The money you give doesn't worth the storyline or the 10-12 hours of questing you get.
Altho it's weak compared to previous chapters (Morrowind, Summerset), Elsweyr chapter brings much needed fresh breath to the game. I think for the first time in TES series we get to explore Elsweyr; a desert paradise for catfolk, the giant litter box.
The story is said to be yearlong, with the previous dungeon DLC Wrathstone (Depths of Malatar + Frostvault), Elsweyr, and incoming another DLC followed by the final zone with story to end it or story first dungeons last, is pretty good. If you are planning to take a journey into Elsweyr, make sure you play the Wrathstone dungeons first, it is not necessary tho, but the writing is pretty solid.
Pros:
*Necromancer - New Class with timed minion summons, self/group heals, AoE debuffs, tanky transformation.
*2 Public Dungeons - Orcrest and Rimmen Necropolis
*Dragon hunt - Public event
*Premium voice acting and model animations. (Sometimes during quest info stage, i turn the ui off just to listen and watch the animations better without any distractions. Altho it's the still same classic oblivion zoom to face, the scenes are better crafted and the cinematography gets awesome with each chapter.)
Cons:
*Small zone compared to Orsinium DLC. (All chapters have smaller zones than Orsinium to be honest.)
*Overpowered item sets. (3 item sets can be smuggled across the border, but you need to be inside the zone to get the other 3)
*(Did not increase maximum champion points on release, like previous chapters did. It is still 810 at the time of this review. Might increase at a later time during the year of the dragon, if that happens disregard this.)
Final words: If you are a fan to the series, but you don't like multiplayer aspect of the game, get this chapter during a sale. Since "One Tamriel" update, all the zones are level scaled, you can just free roam anywhere you want in the ever expanding world of Tamriel. There are thousands of quests to complete, titles to earn, and you are never late to the party.
Dragons are fun to fight. Necromancer works well for casters, tanks, and healers and the spell effects are great. One is a skeleton that sprints, leaps, and explodes!
ESO: Elsweyr is the latest expansion to arrive from Zenimax Online, boasting a new zone to explore replete with delves, sets and the usual zone trappings, with a few extra features to give it a unique feel. Crammed with your usual side-quests and continuing the story arc from the latest dungeon DLC, it will provide several hours of entertainment. Among the new additions are Dragon encounters, a new trial, and a new class (the Necromancer). A tl;dr will be available at the end.
The zone itself is beautifully made, and from what I have played so far, there are not as many artificial ‘barriers’ preventing cross map exploration, such as the Red Mountain in the Vvardenfell expansion. Although advertised as Elsweyr, ZOS has revealed numerous times that only the region of Anequina (or the North-West of Elsweyr) will be available. This lends itself to a zone which changes in aesthestics as you move from one end of the map to the other, with the extreme north reminiscent of Reaper’s March, then on to more arid landscapes criss-crossed with negotiable ravines and small mountains, coming to a more tropical biome along the southern edge.
Dragon encounters are one of the more hyped up features of the new chapter, wherein a dragon will fly around the zone (with an icon tracking its movements on the in-game map), before landing in one of many pre-determined locations. The dragon itself will be visible as you travel around the map and can be quite awe-striking when you first see one swoop overhead while questing. For the most part, the dragon attacks are fun. Whilst playing as a max level tank, I found myself taking a decent amount of damage from the dragon (think normal trial bosses), whilst the lower level champion and non-champion players would wipe after single strikes. There are AoE’s a plenty, spawned enemies (flame atronachs, wraiths etc.), as well as tail and wing swipes, ensuring that constant movement and awareness is necessary- unlike a regular WB, where you can usually stack behind the taunted boss. The fighting is often interspersed with periods where the dragon will take into the skies and either circle ahead using single-target attacks (similar to the MW2 AC-130) or perform a fire breath in a strafing run. With 14.7 Million health, the fight lasts long enough to be enjoyable, being neither too short and anti-climactic, nor too tedious.
The Necromancer is the second major talking point in relation to the new chapter. Having not played too much of the class, (the reader can view any online guide for a more in-depth rundown) a skim read of the skills shows the class to have a unique identity, and capable of introducing some new playstyles both PvE and PvP. It’s not yet been determined how the class is performing in relations to the others post-PTS testing, so it will be interesting to see what buffs/nerfs will be introduced. Lastly, ESO deserves commendation on this class for two reasons. Firstly, they introduced several stamina morphs for what are traditionally seen as magicka based class abilities, allowing more options for players to pick and choose their kits and really define how they want to play. Secondly, taking small steps, they have sought to integrate a lore aspect to the class; with Necromancy ranging from being taboo to outright outlawed in various places of Tamriel, certain skills will attract a bounty if performed in front of a witness, really making a player choose if certain skills are worth utilising in urbanised areas.
The new entry into ESO sees new sets providing more flexible options to players (i.e a magicka based set similar to the Stamina ‘Draugr Hulk’, giving a flat increase to max Mag), a new 12 man trial (raid) and more skyshards to collect, giving an alternative to players needing skillpoints who prefer either a solo experience, or who may be having difficulty gaining SPs from other sources. ZOS have outdone themselves in building a new zone and the inhabitants as well, creating a stellar environment and reintroducing 2 subsets of the Khajiit- the hulking Senche-Raht (a mount) and the intelligent Alfiq. Alongside the free Update 22 providing quality of life improvements for guilds and PvP changes, the ESO: Elsweyr delivers a solid experience for anyone interested in the Elder Scrolls.
TL;DR
- New dragon encounters are fun. Although you can see they are loosely based on the Gyphon encounters from Summerset, the new animations look good.
- Necromancer is a flexible class, with options for stam/mag, and tank/healer/dps. Certain skills can attract a bounty due to lore reasons.
- Emphasis on trying to incorporate more lore into the game
[*]Beautiful scenery
This title seems aimed at more the solo player and PvE experience. If questing, roleplaying, housing, exploring or group activities like trials are what you’re after, then the price tag will definitely be justified. Should you find yourself feeling on the fence about the purchase, or the chapter holds very little of interest for you (such as a PvPer, who, asides from possibly the class, receives little of value from the chapter), then I would recommend picking it up on sale, or waiting until it transitions to an ESO+ bonus.
WARNING! This DLC only adds half of Elsweyr. Even though it adds the Necromancer class, its not worth 40 dollars because the lack of content. Zenimax was too lazy to add southern Elsweyr and wants to cheap us out. Where is the abundance of jungle and forest Elsweyr lacks to have in this expansion. I would like to have the developers add the rest of Elsweyr because of the major MISTAKE I made for preordering the DLC. What a disappointment. Anyone who wants to experience all of Elsweyr, take this advice. Get Elder Scrolls 5 and wait for Beyond Skyrim's Elsweyr mod to come out. A bunch of people who mod Skyrim can do a better job at recreating Elsweyr than Zenimax Online Studios (and it's free) This DLC is simply not worth 40 dollars so wait for the next yearly chapter (if ESO doesn't die) and pick up this chapter for 20 bucks.
I'm gonna change my review to a thumbs up if Zenimax eventually gives all of us who bought this DLC the rest of Elsweyr. I'm sorry, but the release of this DLC makes it look like Zenimax is starting to not focus on ESO and prioritize other projects they are working on in their studio. They need to release southern Elsweyr free for all of the people who purchased it. Also, for some reason steam isn't registering the time I put into this DLC at the time of this edit.
