The Witch’s House
The Witch’s House MV,

The Witch's House MV.
RPG Maker MV.

good game good twist, i enjoyed myself
Got this off the spring sale after wanting to play it for awhile. I thought the original price was a bit too much for the length of the game, but honestly, I really enjoyed this for the 2 hours it took to complete it. My only real gripe was the game froze often and I had to restart. I guess to avoid this, play on easy so that you can save as often as possible. Overall, tho... a neat little dark game w/ an unsettling ending and good puzzles.
A classic RPG maker horror game.
daora
A game that requires exercising a good amount of suspension of disbelief, but there's a reason why it's considered a classic in its genre. Getting all endings certainly adds a lot to the experience.
One of the best RPG Maker Horror games remaked - my nostalgia came back to me and the whole game just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
I played this game on my YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN8T0CYK_XTuLjgsX3E_Mmskz5zFakGxE
The Witch's House MV is a remaster of the original game. This is an RPG Horror game. This game is so good. It's scary. It has a great story. And there are so many ways to die! It's so much fun die in every way. The premise is simple. Make your way through the witch's house! This is considered to be one of the best RPG Horror games of all time. I recommend playing this one. As a big fan of indie games and more specifically indie horror RPGs since I was young, I decided to do a marathon of all the iconic games that I was able to play when I was younger of the genre and even some that I have never been able to do before ! And what better way to start this marathon than to replay after so many years the bronze medal of the indie horror RPG podium : The Witch House !
Welcome to the witch house ! In this story, we play as a young girl named Viola who finds herself visiting a strange house deep in the forest after waking up stuck in the forest. We quickly discover the true dangerous nature of the house and we find ourselves looking for an escape from it being stuck inside. The house changes constantly and death can surprise us at any moment accompanied by game over, that's basically all I can say to summarize the basic plot narrative of the game. Now let's talk about it in more detail ! (Spoilers warning obviously ^^)
In this game, we are permanently immersed in a surreal universe, halfway between "Alice in Nightmareland" (we can notably attend a memorable tea party between flowers, who will ask the heroine to go and massacre the flower in the next room who thinks she is more beautiful than them) and a vicious tale (to complete the game, you will have to accomplish many actions that are quite filthy and not very glorious morally speaking). The atmosphere is really very successful on this point, the Witch House does its job very well.
It is nevertheless a little less interesting in terms of gameplay, because despite a well-mastered adventure / puzzle orientation (gameplay that obviously inspired the excellent Ib, which I can only recommend to you if you like The Witch's House, it’s the silver medalist game on the podium of indie rpg horrors). We are entitled to too many passages of chases that are quite unwieldy (the RPG Maker engine is really not made for that unfortunately). The progression is therefore done through some pretty nice puzzles to solve, accessible to everyone without being too complex most of the time (I exclude the difficulty of the puzzles in EXTRA mode for the review, since it is optional).
In addition, for the 2D survival horror level there are some very good ideas put to work : the sudden changes when you are in a room, the movement of furniture when you return to a room already visited, the objects that move when you are leaving the room but which have remained unchanged when you return to check, the deaths so obvious that you still get fooled, the very short and intense chases (even if as said previously given the basic rpg maker system which is not made for it and the kinda useless script for walking diagonally does not make the chases easier) and a really good use of the void to increase the tension.
Speaking of sound, the game does not offer original or striking music sadly, but it is mainly the well-placed sound effects and the music timing and use that stops to warn of danger that will do a good job on your level of fear and paranoia during the visit of the house.
Then the story... I remember that when I was little, I thought that the game did not really have a story and that it was just horror gameplay, like : "I am imprisoned in a witch's house and I must escape!" but the details transmitted by the books inside the game and by the multiple endings make us discover a background and a story much darker than we could have imagined at the beginning. The story itself is told to us through the witch's diary, the chapters of which are scattered during the progression in the house, relating page after page the macabre history of this house and its resident.
And speaking of the end of the Witch's House or rather the two endings... I remember that it completely blew me away at the time. I absolutely did not expect it, and I think that the biggest part of us cannot expect it. The first ending (called END?) leaves us with a feeling of success but confusion, because after all : we escaped and the witch did not kill us ! It’s supposed to be our Happy Ending ! Why would it not be a real ending..? And here comes the plot twist and the real ending, which we can unlock by recovering Ellen’s, the witch, knife in the closet of one of the rooms before running away from the house : We learn that the girl we play was in reality the witch of the house, Ellen, all along, having stolen the body of the young Viola after having used the body exchange spell with the real one as we can read in her diary in her room before the last chase !
So, what turned out to be the True and Good Ending is actually a terrible Bad Ending for Viola ! Disturbing, that's the word. Especially when you can see her own father kill his daughter imprisoned in the witch's mutilated body with a gunshot and then leave with the witch laughing in her daughter's body... just a terrible ending, I feel still so bad for the little Viola, it's terrible...
In the end, The Witch House was the very good horror game I remembered that is certainly not revolutionary in everything it does, but it does its job very well. I highly recommend it whenever I can to fans of the genre, or to people who think that a 2D game can't scare them ! And last little thing, the game got a manga adaptation in two volumes that I recommend to read after playing since it’s a prequel to the game and give us more information about our characters !
fun
ill never see teddy bears the same way
its one of those games where there is no good ending which is like a new change but damn i didn't expect it to be this f*cking sad lol
its a 1.5 hour game tho i recommend getting it on sale
Wonderful game
If you want to know the story, watch the walkthrough on YouTube. Such a simple game with such a simple plot doesn't deserve your money. Unless at a big discount.
If you want a good ending let Viola kill you and take her body back
:(
i literally bought this 3 days ago or something and ive played it once every single day. i am in love. i love it.
Comentario Analítico: "The Witch's House" / "魔女の家 Majo no Ie" (MV)
Wishing these type of games goes on but sadly they are getting less and less as days passes........
Very simple yet fun game. Short and refreshing.
Yo shoutout to my dad for shooting a blind legless girl best dad of the year
One of my fav game
Great game, great plot even though I've seen people play this and played it myself. The game's lore is also worth looking up if you want to dive deeper into it from the manga and the novel. Though, it's such a shame that there's no achievements to collect.
a game that got me into the rpg horror genre when i was a kid, still a fan 8 years later
A solid little game.
The Witch's House, if compared to others of its kind such as Ib and Mad Father, is a lot less-focused on story, and more so on its puzzles. it has like 20 lines of dialogues at best, most of it being at the end of the game.
The pixel art looks as great as any other remastered RPGhorror titles and the background music, while limited in variety, are all also decent.
The puzzles are great. Not all too complicated but not too simple either, some of them can also be quite the head-scratchers which makes them all the more satisfying once you manage to solve them.
The story presented in the game is, limited, for lack of better wording, there's not much to comment on it. It's fine and serves its purpose well.
- DIFFICULTY: EXTRA -
After you get the true ending of this game, the optional extra difficulty is opened up for you in case you want to suffer more.I actually found it quite enjoyable at first because the sheer amount of extra ways of dying gives each of them a bit of a comical feel to me, for whatever reason. The revamped puzzles also play a part in that enjoyment!
.......
in the beginning, that is..
call it skill issue (it probably is) but the later segments of extra difficulty just feel a bit unfair at times..........
puzzles being too unclear, enemies being stupid fast, barely helpful puzzle hints.....
it really has you looking through every nook and cranny, which, can get really annoying. because instead of clever puzzles it just feels like a time waster........................................i'd recommend you taking that statement with a handful of salt because it's entirely possible i was just being an idiot and didn't pay enough attention.
All in all, optional hard difficulty aside, there's really no word that i can use to describe this game better than "solid". it's not too shabby, but nothing noteworthy either.
I'd recommend buying it when it's on sale though, because for what it is, the full price is just not worth it...................
P.S : this game has a manga and i'd HIGHLY recommend reading it if you're interested in knowing more about the game's story. it is SUCH a good read and gives SO much background and characterisation to the characters of "The Witch's House" who would otherwise fall a bit flat when viewed purely from the game's standpoint. Itis SUCH a tragic story and i LOVE it. I went from giving puck all to Viola to really liking her character.
screw you ellen. you ain't no witch, but a bitc---
(6.5/10 game. 10/10 manga. would die again)
Excellent game, it has good music, atmosphere and an interesting lore 10/10
A must have for your horror RPG collection.
classic jrpg horror game with insane plot twists and nice horror build up. 10/10
classic
A girl with yellow pigtails wakes up in the woods under the gaze of a mysterious black cat, where her curiosity will lead her along the cat's fur trail to a strange house where terrible nightmares and truths meet.
With a total of two endings and two others that only add certain dialogues to the story of the two main endings. One of these endings is in the extra difficult mode once you've finished on medium level, where the puzzles are more developed and thoughtful, there's more tension around every corner and a raw, frightening atmosphere from start to finish.
The music composed by Fummy does not pass by, hitting every note of the floors of this mansion of horrors and in the chases this level seizes in a magnificent way.
The Witch's House is one of the classic horror rpg maker games that has graced Steam with a great makeover and a remembered look. Its story is captivating and psychologically suspenseful, with an impactful twist at the end. The extra mode is extremely fantastic and better enhanced, causing that aversion in the desire to have more doors of this mansion to recognize. It's a memorable game for lovers of this genre and you won't be disappointed!
Gierka taka sobie, fabulka meh, zagadki byly spoko tak samo jumpsacry. Moim zdanime lepiej sobie kupic cos innego i po prostu obejrzeć gameplay
it was fun but i finished it in under two hours. wish it was longer
dope lil game
grade A little game. the end message i got from meting up with your dad is... stay strapped. they can resist magic but not lead.
juegazo
The jump scares and chase scenarios are gooooood ~
justice for the frog
Ever since I watched Markiplier played this game, I been wanting to play The Witch's House for myself for so long. Such a classic and such a dear to my childhood. Love the game and love the creaters who made the game. 10/10 :)

yah
This game is so iconic but I will never forgive what they made me do to that poor frog
The Witch's House is another Classic RPG horror game, that among it's other two siblings (Ib and Mad Father) is considered the scariest of the three. It is a very good game for this reason, as not many RPG horror games have had this impact. it also has some of the most interesting puzzles you have to solve.
The unique thing with the Witch's House, is that death is a huge part of this game. You will die alot in this game. Sometimes silly, sometimes jumpscare'ish, but this is part of the gameplay. Learn from every death, and try figure out the puzzle on what you must do to either aovid or deal with the danger ahead.
It should also be noted that besides sporting upgraded graphics, The Witch's House has a Extra mode, (aka hard mode) which is great for people who already had played the original free version. or for players who want more challenge.
I would recommend it, and also recommend reading the Manga once you finish the game. It's a good read if you can get it. (has only 2 volumes)
Certified RPG Maker Classic.
This version of the game is pretty much similar, if not the exact same game until you unlock the difficulty exclusive to this version of the game. I would recommend playing vgperson's translation of the original to see if you enjoy the game before making a purchase, and only if it's on a sale, or if the extra difficulty isn't your thing, I would just play vgperson's translation. It is a very short game, having only taking me 1.9 hours to beat. The exclusive difficulty may be worth playing, only if you really enjoy these kind of horror rpg maker puzzle games, and the only selling point in my eyes for this game.
As I enjoyed this game myself, and the review is quite mixed, I've given it a recommendation for purchase if it is on sale.
