Beyond Tokyo is a VR adventure around Shibuya in Tokyo Japan. Get a taste of the unique culture of Japan by freely exploring a stylized Shibuya and experience different places - both popular and off the beaten path - via 360 videos, photos, narration, and storytelling.

Shibuya Area
- Experience one of the busiest intersections in the world from the center of Shibuya Crossing Scramble & in aerial view (360 video, time lapse video)
- Check out yakitori dishes and how Japanese “salarymen” eat at a local izakaya (360 video)
- Get a glimpse of how the fashion culture evolves in Harajuku (360 videos)

Rooftop Shrine

We created Beyond Tokyo because:
- We love travel. Traveling gives us new perspectives and lenses, and helps us gain understanding and empathy - something that is all the more important today.
- We love Japan - who doesn’t?:) Not only the popular and the obvious - the food, the fashion, the energy, but also “beyond” that. We want to show you how locals live, transport you to off-the-beaten-path places that mean something to the people. And we want to reimagine the amazing stories about the very essence of the culture - such as the one about Hachiko, on loyalty, honor, and love, the Japanese way.
- We love VR. We love watching 360 videos of places around the world and “going places”. And we want more - to freely explore a new place immersively, and also see in reality how people live, and what’s unique about the culture.
With Beyond Tokyo, we’re excited to share all this with you, in virtual reality, so you could be as excited as we are in exploring Tokyo, and eventually travel there in real life as well.

The concept was nice, but it looks like more a demo rather a complete version, considering in 20 or 30 minutes you are done with it and some things as rotating your visual via joystick or subtitles are missing.
Considering I see no updates after the release I can't really advice this sort of adventure in Tokyo.
I won't give it a thumbs down as I liked the concept, and the performance was mediocre (so I'll give it a thumbs up since that's the only other option to thumbs down)... However, I can't really recommend it very much: navigation awkward, videos extremely blurry, keep traveling through walls and need to restart. Concept sounded good, but the execution felt very lacking, and there was very little coherency. Gameplay was minimal and content extremely limited. Felt more like a partially completed demo version
All that being said, it's short enough to perhaps try for yourself, and just refund if it doesn't appeal to you as expected.
Pretty interesting to see bits of “real Japan” in 360 videos. I like the ability to roam around and find out about interesting “factoids” or mini stories along the way that I didn’t know before. "Flying up" to the rooftop was fun (pretty chill up there by the way). I’ve heard of Hachiko, but “going through” his story here makes me want to watch the original movie and visit the Hachiko Statue when I have money to go to Japan one day.
