Laina Interactive.

If you're a fan of stealth games with a gripping story and challenging gameplay, The Slater is a must-play! 💀🎯
If you ever wanted to experience the gameplay of Hitman in fps with indie stlye - and with significantly worse execution - then I would recommend The Slater to you. Otherwise, it's best avoided.
Very jank Indie BUT a fun one! There are no checkpoints but you can do one level quickly in a comfortable sitting. There are multiple ways to complete your missions and even pacifist options. This is Wish dot com's Hitman but it does it well for what it is. Fairly impressive tbh.
Review of The Slater
The Slater plunges players into a dark and gritty underworld, where former cop Mark Slater seeks revenge for his father’s murder and aims to dismantle a deadly drug operation. This indie game promises the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of a perfectly executed plan, offering a familiar yet unique experience for fans of the Hitman series. As Mark navigates through dangerous environments, he must eliminate those responsible for his father’s death and bring down the drug empire behind the new designer drug, D-Pain. But does The Slater live up to its potential? This review will explore the strengths and weaknesses of The Slater, offering suggestions for improvements that could transform it into a beloved indie tribute to the Hitman franchise.
The standout feature of The Slater is undoubtedly its locations and its ability to create a dark and immersive atmosphere. Each level is designed to reflect the gritty underworld setting, enhancing the overall experience. The attention to detail in the environments helps to draw players into the game’s world, making each mission feel unique and engaging. The game offers a variety of levels, including a nightclub, a spa, a hotel, and a suburban house party. This diversity adds to the game’s appeal and provides different challenges and experiences for the player. However, the game only features six levels, which can make the experience feel somewhat limited.
This wouldn’t be an issue if the sandbox levels were complemented with balanced gameplay. The primary concern lies in how NPCs react to their surroundings. This is because one of the aspects that makes The Slater similar to Hitman is the ability to hide bodies and change clothes to blend in with the environment. The problem is, unlike Hitman, players can quickly become overwhelmed when an NPC discovers a dead body, resulting in every guard instantly knowing the player’s location. A potential solution would be to implement a system where guards survey the area for a possible suspect. After some time, guards could enter a cooldown period or remain on alert for a suspicious individual. Introducing NPC witnesses who are only suspicious of the outfit worn by the player would also add depth. Additionally, incorporating distractions, such as throwing rocks or coins, would provide players with more freedom to complete levels. These mechanics add a layer of strategy and immersion, allowing players to truly manipulate their surroundings and avoid detection.
The game feels narrow in scope. There aren’t many options for assassinating your targets, which limits the player’s creativity. This lack of variety makes the gameplay feel repetitive. Adding more weapons and tools could greatly enhance the gameplay, providing players with even more options to approach their missions. As of now, the only weapon in the game is a silenced pistol. Additionally, the game is only available in first-person, which might limit the player’s ability to fully assess their surroundings and plan their strategies compared to other stealth games. However, this is a minor, more personal criticism.
The inclusion of cinematic cutscenes helps to build tension and advance the storyline, making the game feel more polished and engaging. These cutscenes add a professional touch to the overall presentation. While the narrative of seeking revenge for the protagonist’s father’s murder is fairly straightforward, it serves its purpose well enough for a game of its size. This approach provides a basic framework that might keep players invested in the character’s redemption, offering just enough context and motivation for the player’s actions.
Some missions in The Slater feel like a love letter to the Hitman franchise. The game can sometimes capture the essence of what makes Hitman special, with intricate level design. This homage not only pays respect to its inspiration but also provides a familiar experience for fans of stealth-based gameplay.
Overall, The Slater has the potential to be a great game with some adjustments. The unique locations and sandbox potential are there, but the NPC behavior and lack of creative freedom need improvement. With these changes, it could go from a rough and sometimes unenjoyable experience into a polished indie game reminiscent of the Hitman franchise.
5/10
"Should I buy it?"
As of its current state, I only recommend the game when it is on sale below $5.
"We have hitman at home"
my game rate is 2 of 5, but the very last mission was excellent, also I like the overall atmosphere of the game, and my review is positive because I believe in the developer. Don't give up and work on improvements of every aspect of your next game.
Fine: 6/10
From Cop to Ghost: The Slater
Mark Slater's story is a dark one. It follows his descent into the criminal underworld after his father's murder. The narrative unfolds slowly, revealing details piece by piece as you progress. There are no flashy reveals, but the weight of Mark's grief and his growing determination for justice are palpable.
As a stealth-focused title, the game emphasizes careful planning, patient observation, and precise execution. The controls are responsive and intuitive, allowing you to seamlessly blend into the environment, silently take out enemies, and escape undetected. The level design is a particular highlight, with each area presenting unique challenges and opportunities for creative problem-solving.
The art direction nails the noir aesthetic. The cityscape oozes with grime, and the rain-slicked streets reflect neon signs like broken promises. The character models are somewhat detailed, and Mark Slater’s scarred face tells a thousand stories.
If you're looking for a deep, story-driven stealth game that will challenge you and leave you emotionally drained, then "The Slater" is a must-play.
