Epic Skater 2: The Case of the Hollow Skates and Lost Dreams
TL;DR: It’s a thrilling ride for those with a love for tricks and endless grind. But, like any ghost town, there’s something haunting beneath the surface — glitches, repetitive cycles, and technical mishaps that keep you from truly feeling at home in this slick skate world. Grab your board, but beware of the cracks in the pavement.🛹👻
The Mystery of the Skater's Ghost
There’s a certain beauty to the way Epic Skater 2 rolls into the scene. Slick as a snake in a dusty town, it beckons players with promises of speed, tricks, and progression, all wrapped up in a vibrant 3D world. At first glance, it’s a true spectacle, a place where you can lose yourself in the rhythm of the grind and the flip of the board. But, like the ghost of a once proud outlaw, it’s haunted by a few things left unsettled in the dirt.
I’m not talking about the bright colors or the funky outfits — no, those things are just window dressing. It’s the gameplay, the progression, the grind that keeps you coming back. It’s easy to get sucked into the moment, to feel that rush of skating through new levels, pulling off a killer combo, and racking up loot like a desperado at a poker table. But when the day ends and the dust settles, you start to notice the cracks in the foundation.
The Pros: The Thrill of the Ride
The game’s got heart, I’ll give it that. The kind of heart you see in a well-worn board, cracked but still able to catch air like a bird in flight. The tricks are smooth, offering over 44 unique moves, and let me tell you, nothing beats the rush of pulling off a perfect flip or grinding a rail without falling. The feel of it — the precision — that’s what keeps you coming back, time and time again. There’s no shortage of upgrades, either.
What sets this one apart from the other skate games out there? The progression, partner. The grind isn’t just for points — no, it’s about unlocking new tricks and customizing your skater. You’ll find yourself chasing after those sweet new board designs, outfits, and stats like a treasure hunter after a buried chest. And the loot, lord, the loot. It keeps you hooked like a rattlesnake’s bite, never letting go until you've unlocked everything. It’s a straight-up addiction, I’ll give it that.
And those daily challenges? They keep things fresh. They’re a good way to measure progress and give you a reason to come back even when the streets feel too familiar. The world, while a little too cartoony for some, is alive with color and vibrancy that keeps it from feeling like a ghost town.
The Cons: The Hollow Echoes Beneath the Wheels
But hold on, kid. Don’t be fooled by the flashy surface. Beneath the wheel, something ain’t right. It’s the kind of glitchy undercurrent that makes you wonder if someone’s pulling the strings, but not in a good way. The controls? Sometimes they feel like trying to steer a runaway wagon down a mountain pass. They can be unresponsive, particularly with certain controllers, and that’s a problem when you’re in the middle of pulling off a killer combo and the game decides it wants to take a coffee break instead of keeping up with you.
And let’s not even get started on the repetitiveness. Sure, the first few levels might dazzle you like a flash of lightning in a dusty town, but after a while, it starts to feel like you’re stuck in a loop. You’re grinding the same rails, doing the same tricks, over and over again. The game offers progression, sure, but sometimes it feels like you're chasing a train that’s never gonna reach the station. The challenge of it all starts to feel hollow, like trying to catch ghosts with a butterfly net.
There’s also the issue of the pacing. The game feels like it could use a little more time in the saloon, thinking things through. The levels start to feel a little too samey, and while there’s loot to be had, it doesn’t always feel worth the effort. It’s a strange mix of content that might make you want to skate off into the sunset, but not before looking over your shoulder one last time to make sure nothing's following you.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Engaging trick system: Over 44 unique tricks with smooth mechanics to keep you hooked. 🛹✨
Addictive progression: Unlock new gear, outfits, and board upgrades, each more rewarding than the last. 🎁
Daily challenges: Keep the grind fresh and offer consistent rewards for your effort. 🏆
Vibrant world: Colorful, cartoony art style that keeps things light and fun. 🌆🎨
Loot system: Plenty of loot crates and upgrades to satisfy that "collect them all" itch. 💰🛠️
Cons:
Repetitive gameplay: After a while, levels can feel samey, and the grind becomes tiresome. 🌀
Pacing: The game's flow can feel too predictable, offering less of a challenge over time. ⏳
Lack of depth: The game may start to feel shallow as you progress, without much to keep things engaging long-term. 😐
Final Thoughts: The Ghosts You Can't Shake
So what’s the final verdict? Is Epic Skater 2 worth the ride? It’s a tough one, partner. It’s a game that offers thrills and chills — a wild ride through a colorful world full of tricks, loot, and high-flying action. But lurking under the surface are the cracks. The glitches. The repetitive grind. It’s the kind of game that’ll keep you hooked for a while, but after the dust settles, you might find yourself looking for a new place to skate.
Maybe it’s not the best option for the long haul, but for a few quick rides down memory lane? It might just be the perfect fit for you. Just be careful where you step. The ghost of monotony is never too far behind, and in this town, it’s always waiting for its next victim. 👻🛹

DO NOT PAY $15 FOR THIS!!! This is a mobile port and it shows. The game runs fine at first but then experienced a crash. After that, despite my efforts I was never able to get the game to run again. Due to its age it seems as though the game has effectively been abandoned so I doubt there will be any fixes for this. You could be throwing your money away on this game.
gud game
NO SUPPORT !
Babys first skateboarding game. That's all I have to say really.
I liked it though.
Be warned the menus are like a mobile game which makes sense since the first game was iOS only.
Just thought I'd make that clear.
Again...I still liked it though.
Also controls are like a poor mans Pro Skater, so yeah you can use a controller. Jump is A, to do a kickflip involves X, Y is grind, etc.
Once again...I still liked it though.
6/10
Honestly? Everything i wanted in an arcade-style skating game, jampacked with easy to obtain customization items, its easy to keep playing. Id say pick it up, why not?
This game is set up like a free mobile game... with the payments disabled. The controls are strange and plenty of leftovers from the mobile space (Including instructions to 'swipe' the screen to do certain things), zero scroll-wheel support in menus, and a very clunky design that works fine for touch screens, but is terrible to a standard mouse or controller user. Steer clear of this one. I returned and refunded this within hours of purchase, it's that bad.
fun game
Really fun game so far, controls are pretty much identical to THPS ones, which makes the game easy to handle. However, this is way more arcade than Tony Hawk or OlliOlli series,
This is an overall good experience, even if there are some flaws that prevent Epic Skater 2 to be an excellent game. Navigation in menus using a controller is pretty messed up. In-game controls are good, but sometimes not responding quite well.
Having the choice I would definitely prefer OlliOlli 1 & 2, but if you already played both and looking for another nice skating experience, go ahead.
Edit: Got now more than 20 hours into the game, and my feelings are getting more and more negatives. The game is getting extremely frustrating, especially on rooftops levels. Not because of the difficulty (which is hard, but bearable), but because of the many bugs and "out of world" issues that ruin the experience, which leaves objectives really hard to obtain, if not unatainable.
5,5/10
Leave it to an indie game to be more exciting than Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5. I can't wait to see where the game developers take this. Another perk is there isn't a battle royal mode.
Fun game that reminds me of playing THPS back in the day.
Last review was of the early access version. Only right to do the full version of the game. This game is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2D basically. And by basically, I mean WTF I played this 5 hours straight a day?? The game is great, every problem/ bug thrown at the devs they fixed at a resonable timeframe. Achievements are good to go after, and 100 of them. Devs listen on their discord. For an eternity of re-playability, get yourself a THPS/ THPS2 soundtrack playlist and go on a mix of nostalgia and new age gaming wave to really put yourself in a fucking early 2000's gaming nuthouse.
