Pretty good game except for the "CURSE" condition. It's a 50% chance that your action fails, and it loves to go off on the action you really want to take. It goes away after your turn, or if it goes off on that turn, but some enemies can hand it out multiple times a turn, or consistently on their turns. Thats the one thing that killed this game for me. Other than that I recommend it.
I really love the core gameplay. The rolling of the dice and then using them to your best ability with your selected weapons is a really fun idea, and the deckbuilding to choose you weapons/utilities around it allows for fun risk mitigation strategies and fun synergies. The multiple different characters each bring something unique to the concept, and the different chapters each add additional twists to the mechanics, status effects, enemies, and even character concepts. This ends up bringing a lot of varied concept to the core game. There's also a couple of bonus lumps of free DLC that have been added in the time since the original release.
Really nicely differentiated characters, nicely uses the same mechanic in very different ways which leads to very different playthroughs
Super fun. Easy to learn. Hard to master
Dicey Dungeons is an absolutely brilliant and creative game that stands out in the world of roguelikes. Its unique concept of combining dice mechanics with dungeon crawling creates a truly engaging and fresh experience. Each character you play as uses dice rolls to determine actions, making every decision and outcome feel dynamic and unpredictable. This simple yet clever mechanic keeps the gameplay exciting and varied, encouraging players to think strategically about their dice rolls and available actions.
The level of difficulty in Dicey Dungeons is also perfectly tuned. The game provides a fair challenge that pushes players to think on their feet, but it never feels overwhelming. The progression is satisfying, with each run offering new opportunities for improvement, and the difficulty curve is just steep enough to keep things interesting without becoming frustrating.
Visually, Dicey Dungeons has a charming, minimalist art style that fits the quirky nature of the game. The bright colors and bold designs give the game a fun, playful vibe that’s both easy on the eyes and full of personality. The simple yet effective visuals enhance the overall experience, making it a joy to explore its many levels.
Overall, Dicey Dungeons is a standout title that impresses with its originality, challenging gameplay, and charming visuals. It’s a must-play for fans of roguelikes, puzzle games, or anyone looking for something uniquely engaging. Highly recommended!
Hit and miss on this game, overall it was fun but there is alot of annoying stuff, with dice rolling for the RNG you would expect some ways to mitigate stuff but you tend to be at the full mercy of the enemys and it can quickly end a run even when you prepare
That being said the idea was fun and funny so i would recommend it just maybe put it off if you are looking at something else
Gambling for kids.
I FUCKEN HATE THAT BIRD
fuck yeah
amazing
What a lovely game. I was interested as soon as I saw Terry Cavanagh’s name and he did not disappoint. Such a fun rogue-lite dungeon crawler centered around rolling dice. Seeing as one of the primary tags is deck builder, I want to mention that it’s not that imo. Except for the last unlocked class (name is a slight spoiler) which does play as a deck builder, most of the classes play with equipment that can be exchanged between battles.
It’s a little hard to describe why I think this game is fun. It’s exactly like what the pictures look like, it’s a game where you battle with dice, and it’s done so well. There’s enough variety that you can keep coming back and it stays fun. It’s just hard enough that you’ll get better at it as you play and even then you might lose at the boss and have to start over. If you do die, you can pause and go back to the main menu to save scum. It felt a little wrong at first, but sometimes I just want to try to play it a little differently to see if I can still make it, and I love that I can do that.
The music is great, makes it feel like an arcade game and I can listen to it for hours. The graphics, animations, and sound effects are all so satisfying and make for smooth gameplay.
I still haven’t beaten the game, but I just came back to it after a few months of not playing and it’s still fun. And I still have some free dlc to look forward to. God bless you, Terry Cavanagh
Oh yeah I just remembered, there’s also a bunch of trophies you get for different milestones that have little characterizations of all the monsters. Just lovely
It's fun, it's fair. Lots of interesting novelty runs that add modifiers
ignore the whiners complaining that it's rigged, because it isn't
they need to get gud and go back to school and learn how probability works
While I did manage to complete this game on each character, I found some of the RNG with reliance on dice to be frustrating in some of the runs that I had played throughout. Overall I wanted to enjoy this game more, but found that I was hoping for more diverse possibilities but ended up feeling like some runs were not much different than others on the respective character. I don't believe it's the fault of the game itself or the developer in this design, but I feel there may just be a limit to how much you can do with 6 sided dies determining how you can play your turns.
Very fun game, until you have to play as the Witch, and then it is a very not fun game. However, since five playable characters are not the Witch and only one playable character is, it's a recommend from me.
One of my favorite game. (One of the few that I play even after I've finished achievements)
BUT it will not suit everybody..
+ Pros:
Puzzle oriented combat mechanics
Feasible achievements
Music are good even outside the game
Free DLCs (Indie games makers are more passionate than big companies..)
+1 for the Halloween Witch Puzzle gameplay which is excellent
- Cons:
Roguelike game..
RNG that ruins some strats..
Game a bit expensive (Wait for the sales where it's 2-3€)
Engineer guy is just not fun to play
Few bugs not that problematic
Difficulty:
A bit challenging but feasible :)
In conclusion watch the trailers or stream, but if you like strategic games, this game is for you. I recommend.
Victior !
epic art style i love the game if you have the handheld def buy it
It is an amazing rogue-like game that is VERY addicting. You might get upset with some RNG, but very fun nontheless. Would recommend!
i cant stop winning
RNG + Turn-Based Strategy
A great rouge-lite deck builder that has gotten some fun additional content added over the years. Several of the episodes change the way the game plays pretty substantially, which keeps things fresh, though the lack of unique enemies does eventually start to hamper the game experience a little bit. I also really enjoyed the OST composed by Chipzel, which has some definite memorable stand outs.
Low player agency and low variability makes for a horrid roguelite experience.
This is a very charming game. The artwork alone is pretty neat; not to mention the comments from the npcs are something to laugh at from time to time. The game play is pretty fun and there are a descent amount of characters to choose from that make the plays different/unique. If you're thinking about buying this, you should give it a go!
actually phenomenal
DD is a neat little rogue-like. You have 6 different characters to choose from, each playing wildly differently with their own unique special attacks and equipment, some relying more on RNG than others, admittedly (looking at you, Witch ... and Robot).
The game tasks you with ascending several floors full of enemies, healing items, equipment chests, shops, upgrade stations, etc. to beat one of the final bosses (I think there are around 5 or 6 or so). Each character has 6 different stages to complete, each with different rule sets that can completely change the game and/or just make it harder. Beating all of the final stages unlocks a new character, supposedly, haven't gotten that far yet.
Combat plays out with you and the enemy rolling dice in turns. These dice are then used in the equipment you or they have got, which in turn triggers an attack, a heal, shields, dodges, damage over time effects, debuffs and so on. Defeated enemies give you XP to level up. Each level up gives you bonuses like extra dice, more health, etc.
Only by defeating all enemies in a run can you reach the maximum level, but sometimes it's smarter to just leave enough enemies alive to get to the 2nd highest level, instead of dying before the boss or entering the boss fight with little HP.
Then, there's also additional bonus episodes with even more levels.
For 15 bucks DD is WELL worth the investment if you're into these sorts of games.
Recommended for all dice loving engine builders under us
Not much to say here – it is Dicey Dungeons, arguably the best Roguelike Deckbuilder there is.
Spent 140 hours completing it, and in the end I am only sad it is over.
Super fun roguelike deckbuilder.
+1
good game
Addicting but keep getting stupid dices while opponent would gang rap3 you with their overwhelming cc. Great game for phone to kills time.
This game is great! I hate it!
This one starts out kind of fun but the nature of rolling the dice doesnt really scratch the itch a diceroller is looking for. Furthermore the game starts off kind of "Fine" but quickly escalates into varying degrees of being screwed by RNG. Now I understand rolling dice at its core is RNG but adding additional layers of "your moves might not go off or I might eat a die or the enemy might get 2 turns" is just antifun.
I think of other games with pretty heavy RNG that you still feel like a very active participant with some sense of control, even my worst runs in other games where I feel like Im climbing out of the pits of hell. This game at many many times feels completely deterministic such that big hits and big wins feel hollow, and big losses feel expected and therefore meaningless. I think for cheap you cant really go wrong, and there is content here, but the mechanics aint for me.
Good
i like the mean lady
Great game. Start simple then keep getting complex and better.
Its good
Game is fun!
Nice ol rougelike.
Story can be presented better and could have more depth,
For a game about dice it never *feels* like you're rolling dice (except when you're playing as the robot) You may as well be drawing cards from a deck.
Interesting characters but not interesting enough to get me try to beat the entire game.
Get it this game on sale if you are a fan of the genre,
I'm loving this game, the vibe, the mechanics, the strategy, *chef's kiss*
I've been really enjoying this game so far! The deck-building portion of the game is cool, as you activate your cards/power-ups with dice. Each character/episode gives you certain constraints that make your strategies for each run different. The roguelike piece works well because it makes me retry an episode if I end up having a bad initial set-up. Additionally, I was really happy to see Marlowe Dobbe do the art for Dicey Dungeons, as I really enjoyed her art in Floppy Knights (another deckbuilder with very different mechanics that I also recommend).
Not too complex, love the art and is fun to play
RNG hell.
It is obvious while playing that combining the elements of dice, deckbuilding, and RPG classes generated a vast wellspring of ideas for a game.
Somehow, the developer has managed to implement them so well that Dicey Dungeons can transform itself from a dice game to a collectible card game, to a blackjack game, to a DnD Wizard-style spellbook game, to a coin flip game -- seamlessly.
Despite the inherent RNG nature that the core of Dicey Dungeons is built around, its game mechanics always ensure that the player is given plenty of control and management tools; it's all about building up your equipment so that what used to be bad luck actually becomes good.
My only moderate complaint is that the Witch's mechanics in the DLC don't quite live up to the rest of of the game's mechanics.
I highly recommend, and I'd love to see more of it in the future.
It's very fun and easy to play. The Rogue-like elements are light and each character has very different focuses! I love the enemy designs and the music is phenomenal!
This is pretty fun and challenging game overall. The general gameplay is very easy to start out and feels a bit repetative after awhile, but it does get much harder and I will come back to it for shorter stints of gaming where I am looking for a fun, but challenging puzzle.
A nice little rogue-like.
Nothing too rough or grindy.
Fun little game.
A rougelike that has actually tested my strategy as opposed to finding an optimal build and going for it every single time. Absolutely love it, even when (not if) it blatantly cheats and screws you royally.
Slay the Spire meets Yahtzee, but cute.
When I was playing Witch i thought about ending it
