Conqueror's Blade has a lot of potential, but it’s dragged down by frustrating systems and an imbalance that heavily favors players who spend money.
For context: I used to play this religiously but got burnt out after one of the season, and has tried to gone back with the new season only to be overwhelmed by all the new systems and units. This review is mainly written for new players who are considering to play this game.
Main Cons
1. Pay-to-Win
I personally found the grind to unlock seasonal unit excruciatingly slow and exceedingly frustrating (for some of the tasks), the games allows you to spend sovereign (premium currency) to skip the grind. While I typically consider this a "Pay-to-Progress-Faster", seasonal units in this game tends to be stronger (or easier to play). A new player would be screwed at the start, being meat for all the veteran players to chew up and pad their stats.
Training a single troop to max level also takes a stupidly amount of time. Want to make it faster? Pay for a premium membership or buy unit exp boost cards with real money.
2. Pointless Durability System
The equipment in this game all has durability, with the max durability going down each repair. This is pointless, remove it.
3. New Players Are at a Massive Disadvantage
The progression system and matchmaking are terribly unbalanced for new players. Veteran players are already riding around on powerful mounts (like purple horses which can easily outrun their puny green horses) and have high-tier units, making it almost impossible for newcomers to compete. The experience quickly turns into one of constant frustration as you're chased down by players who’ve spent months (or money) building up their armies.
4. RNG
Craft equipment? RNG for stat boost and equipment grade.
Hunting for doctrine? Good luck getting the one you want, there is no pity for it (last I checked).
Conclusion
Honestly, this is a great game. With a 24-hour peak of 7k players (as of the time of this writing), it is still surviving. If you are an existing player, you most likely will continue to have fun. For new players looking to pick this up... don't.
This game was released during the period of time where Asia players always gets double dipped (Pay for game, and pay for cash shop), but times has changed. The recent games from China all features cosmetics only cash shop and their player base is doing fine so far. I would rather Booming Tech just launch Conqueror's Blade 2 with a more balanced gameplay (everyone with similar stats etc, skills are the only thing that matter), and a cosmetics-only cashshop.
very fun game. can be casual player just for normal matches or you can get really into it and do battles with houses
Kinda like taking the 3rd person combat of Dynasty Warriors (but heroes aren't godlike), putting 20 people on each team, each of whom controls a variety of unit types such as archers, knights, samurai, etc, and placing it inside a Total War siege battle
I have a shameful amount of hours in the old version on top of what's seen here. It's not the greatest game. It has plenty of flaws. But damned if it doesn't scratch an itch that no other game is. It can be a bit overwhelming and the community isn't so huge but there's always a match to get into. (If it takes longer than 3-4 minutes to find a match you should leave and rejoin the queue as it's likely bugged).
Best game ever

I had the other Steam-store version of the game, with 1000s of hours, so my Steam stats after both the Asian and Global versions got merged got erased. I am someone that had pre-ordered the Conqueror edition of the game that has the Templar Commander armor. Thankfully I haven't lost any of my in-game content with this move. I can't say the same for other people, though they've apparently they've worked on that.
I wish I could put my review on this as mixed. It's really the only one of its kind that invites an itch that I never knew I had. The issue is there's a lot to complain about with this game.
* Lack of a vibrant living in-game economy
* Difficult for newer players to be able to get up to speed with older, veteran players. (Especially without spending money)
* Other than unit balancing (new season units are usually always overpowered), there's been no real change to the systems beyond some "gacha" like behaviors with gear refining.
* Territory war map can allow for backcapping behavior; there's nothing like planetside 2 where you have to capture the territory near you and have a forced logistical supply lines as a house. Not the biggest complaint but this does cause issues with TW.
It does a number of things right though:
* Unit control and being able to be a "commander" in a battle
* Territory wars are at a weekly time and date that's effectively a "game night for the boys" kind of deal. The major PVP is only twice a week, so there's the feeling of drought, but this competitive play being limited does help prevent burnout.
However I have to not recommend this game as I don't think think other than maybe cool units and gimmicks, nothing is really changing with this game. Myself and the house I was playing with in this game for 2 years we've finally left. If this game changes for the better, I can see us maybe returning, but history of playing this game I just can't count on it.
Player: ONOMI-1 (NA Server; Level 5000+)
TDLR: Amazing "F2P Action Strategy with MMORPG Elements" game with nothing really like it that has lasted this long. Feels like Mount and Blade PVP. Level up your stats and units. Find and wear new and better equipment, unlock units, use artilery. Battlepass, which is great but not needed, is ~$3 a month.
----------------------------------------
I think I have over 10k+ hours from the game (they changed Developer Owners so they migrated the Application source which had logged those hours in). Before I get into it, this game is awesome. If you like Mount and Blade mixed with PVP, than this is it. I've tried a few of other games that tried to be like this in the last few years, but this is as polished of this genre as you can get (and it's not as much as it could have been, to be fair).
1. Mount and Blade Reference:
You move your character and troops similarly but with even more control. You micro your hero and macro your units, but there won't be as many units to control at once as Bannerlord/Mount & Blade. You equip your hero (and units) with individual Skins pieces. You do have access to special skills per class, but the skills have more practical themes than magical themes.
2. Lore/Story: there isn't really any.
Don't play this game like a story RPG. This is okay for me though. From how this game is designed, trying to force a main character and story wouldn't ruin it. They do keep well with the themes each season, which are referenced to real life war historic entities. Some units don't really work like that in real life but it doesn't really break immersion.
3. Casual Friendly vs TIME for Build to Come online: Yes. You can play 1-3 matches a day to get your dailies in, that help build your grind to unlock everything at a constant pace. It could take you 2 years to unlock everything this way. If you're into the game a lot but don't want to spend money, you don't need to for the most part. The majority of MTX is for skins. The P2W people claim is mostly the smaller boosts to your grind, which you also get free as well (and plenty of it). (explained more in point #5)
3. Late Game Not Controlled by Whales at all:
If you hear people say there are Level 7k Whales, I'll tell you most "high level veterans" are not whales, and like me, only buy the battle pass (mainly for unique skins), which is $3 a month. That's great IMO. The whales in this game usually get destroyed utterly by Veterans since they don't know how to play, and when they do learn how to play, the non-Whale beats them evenly just the same.
4. The Slight Part about P2W:
The only gripe I have is one smaller aspect of possible P2W, is the ability to buy chance rolls for The Stronger Deployable Artillery in Ranked/TW Matches. Mind you, you can still win free Arti, but could be possible that someone spends 1000$ to get a few extra to help win a few matches. Those same people could also use that Arti completely badly, and have us break their 50$ spent in 2 seconds each time but it can be an annoyance. The parts about boosting doesn't really affect the game much IMO. I think I spent over 700$ on this game for 4.5 years, and the majority of that was on Battle passes, some on skipping some terrible quests for unit unlocks (sometimes very worth it), and the rest on skins I don't even wear lol. To me that's not bad.
5. Gameplay and Timing:
-Casuals: 2-5 games a day (1-2h, with "regular sieges" (public match) being 10-15m long a game)
-Sweaty: every day for 3h (doing all dailys/weeklies/quests and using advice from guides/vets to unlock things efficiently)
+ TW: 2-5h a week; This is the guild vs guild weekly battle events, with the goal to be ruler of the kingdom(s).
+ Ranked: 3-10h; Very competitive mode with chosen groups of 3. Can play for exclusive rewards and competitive nature. Extremely sweaty version of regular sieges. The Top 25 get a visual Flag on their mounts that makes them visually distinct for 1 season afterwards.
6. Hero Characters
Many different weapon classes and skills. Each class feels unique in both playstyle and interaction with your units: Hero Killer, CC Hero, Ranged DPS, etc. Has many different style of units and their uses. Some are completely obsolete, and some have returned to META due to game updates: Infantry, Ranged, Cav, Special units. There's something about having the enemy winning the push, only to panic when they get real-time flanked, and even though the enemy would have won, lost, due to the panic and confusion.
Ending Comments:
Community and Roleplay can be huge in this game. Wish they did way more marketing to get our player count high again. If you try this game out, give it a shot until you play maybe 20 games with real players after the training bots. That's when you make the decision to want to get better at the game or just drop it cause it's too much of a learning curve/time sink like any other game really.
Also, <3 RIP NA House GAIA. I'll miss you guys. You made Covid times an easier time to push through.
love this game
Great game, most fun I had since Dark Age of Camelot a long time ago.
Wish they would lower the entrance barrier for new players a significant bit, as the start can be quite overwhelming and difficult. Some of my friends tried it, only one stayed due to the entrance barrier (caused my equipment unit grind)
I got banned for 30 days for allegedly using third-party software in violation of the game's regulations. However, the only software I had running at the time was Kaspersky Plus and the UniKey Vietnamese typing tool
10/10
nice anti-cheat
Been playing MMOs for 20+ years nothing special and ToS is horrible
This game a solid foundation of gameplay, mixing rpg style hack and slash, with tactical army control. A niche that makes it so close to a great game for me.
Terrible balancing, level design, and lazy power creep aside, the one thing that is pushing me out of this game is the horrifically predatory micro-transactions in order to get any cosmetics. Sure they're cosmetics. But outside of the game-play, it's literally 90% of what this game advertises on every page, scene and event. And it's laughably expensive. They have singular events where if you spend $200 during a seasonal event, you get -A- helmet cosmetic. One. Out of the hundreds of helmets cosmetics they've made so far. And that's only for that event. Once the next spending event comes out, you have to spend another $200 or so dollars to reach the next benchmark reward.
Every month they lock the newest set of seasonal cosmetics out behind a subscription fee, and any they add individually cost $30-60, and if you are trying to get a specific legendary in a loot box you are statistically looking to spend about $300+ to get it.
To get COSMETICS, to make your character LOOK different. I know the answer most people are going to say is 'then just don't buy the cosmetics, play the game' and that's what I'm doing. But the game is LITTERED with constant advertising with ALL of the cosmetic sale and event sales and spend spend spend events it has just begging for you to spend 1000x what a game is worth for some pixels on your character. Its just awful.
Hell yea
why cant I see allied units health and can units follow me closer instead of running out of formation to die like idiots. Great game and balanced other than pike and chain and scimitar.
the fact Deployable Artillery and trebuchet Is still a thing is insane
At this point with the previous one i have near 2,000 hours in. Bought the exploring pack back when it first came out. I love hate this game lol They want you to buy the new units, which can get very costly very fast. Thats about as close to pay to win as this game gets. Everyone can unlock the same units, its just takes a lot longer. Small unit medieval leadership, if you make a bad move, your troops are toast without even giving any damage. Its hard to stay serious though with my wife yelling "Attack ant hills" every time they say "attack at will" in game, which is a lot. Good times. ~ThreeSheets
The developers are not doing nearly enough changes in a timely matter.
Mechanics that have been broken are still broken after 15 seasons.
Units always neglected with changes.
Certain hero classes completely out rank others, no where near balanced.
Every new season is 90% paid updates, 10% free updates.
Would not recommend as the game currently stands.
Conqueror's blade is overall a good game, but not that great experience for new players. New players face extreme struggles with progression in the game, but the developers are constantly making it easier. It's a long way to go, but it's nearer every update.
What comes to gameplay, the gameplay & mechanics themselfs are good, constantly evolving. There are some issues, which are common with any game, but at least those issues are usually fixed.
I used to play this game when their usage of graphics were old, and the game looked horrible, with high or low settings, but now it actually looks great.
The performance used to be super bad too, but now it's actually great, even with hundreds of units on the field and not so far from you. Sound design still needs to be worked on, but it's in fair state.
Fun game hard to get into alone but with friends is a lot of fun
Field battles are queing up finally.. Fun game lots of strategy play as a hero and control your troops!
Laggy garbage that since they merged. A bunch of cash grabbing garbage. Unbalanced seasonal units and bad map design
Игры похожие на Conqueror's Blade
