Описание

Patent9 is a noir sci-fi mystery visual novel set in a neon-lit, rain-soaked deco cityscape. The story follows Lang, a bioengineer plagued by strange visions of unknown origin which drive him to construct a series of artificial life forms dubbed "Patents", with the goal of creating the ultimate being that could change his life around—for better or worse. However, the dark forces controlling the City have their own plans regarding Lang's enigmatic work, and set out to use their vast resources in furthering their agenda.

Join in Lang's attempts at resolving the ultimate mystery of the visions as he encounters a series of often intriguing and alluring, but also dangerous characters stalking the shadowy sprawl of the City.

To what extent is one ready to go just to free himself from the darkness of daily existence? What if your path to salvation was based solely on otherworldly visions and seemingly dependent on only one person born out of those dreams? Could you make that leap of fate?

Literally... You don't have control of the game like 99% of the time...
Classified the story as boring after being patient reading text until chapter 2... After that...
removed auto scroll and left click mouse as crazy at the corner until choices appears.
Even I crossed that ugly bug already documented in chapter 6 and they haven't fixed.
Good thing there is a "workaround".
At the end section... started reading again... it raised the quality of the story a little but still it does not provide any reward in replay.
If they had the models to get the pictures for the graphic novel, they should have made at least a cinematic experience. Static pictures does not provide any sense of story engagement.

TL;DR

Patent9 - Goddess of Trust is a free, enjoyable noir SF visual novel with an interesting but slow storyline, supported by moody images and jazzy music, but lacking in the number of choices / story branches, and in a manual save/load function, detracting from the amount of replayability after a first playthrough.

Summary

In Patent9, you play a researcher, Dr. Lang, who works for the Committee, the organization that runs the entire city in which the story takes place. Dr. Lang is on the verge of a scientific breakthrough on the subject of escaping the current world into another reality or dimension (the "Beyond"), and you jump into the story at the moment when the final experiment is about to take place.

The game is a regular visual novel, meaning that you go through a lot of text until you come to a point where you have to make a decision, with the story continuing along the chosen path. The entire game is in black-and-white, and features atmospheric backgrounds, as well as photos of all the characters you interact with. These characters are mostly women, although the game is far less lewd than the screenshots on the store page might suggest (or try to make you believe, perhaps); there's only implied nudity. The whole game features moody, jazzy music, adding to the noir-feeling of the game. The music is varied as well, with every scene featuring a different track. There is no voice acting and only a few sound effects. On the plus side, it's a VN that is actually no anime, which is kinda refreshing, regarding most VN's on Steam are.

The story is interesting and enjoyable, but in my opinion stetched out over too much dialogue, making the story progress only very slowly and giving the player the feeling that a lot of the dialogue is pretty meaningless. This is enhanced by the fact that there's not much interaction nor story branches / meaningful choices you can make as a player, making the entire experience mostly linear up until the end, where you are presented with three options resulting in three different endings. In a "the glass is half full" kinda way, this means that the lack of a save/load function isn't really felt unless you want to jump back to certain scenes to 100% the game, in which case you can only go back to the autosaves, skip through all dialogue from there until you get to the point where you can choose between options.

Lastly, there's some textual errors, with some misspellings and the game displaying the wrong character name above the text box on a few occasions (i.e., while it's actually character X talking, the game displays the name of character Y above the dialogue box instead). This is just minor, though, and doesn't really detract from the entire (max. 4 hour) experience.

Pros and cons

+ free game with a good story
+ VN that is not anime

- very linear game, with too little choices / story branches
- no manual save/load option (only autosave)
- slow dialogue and story progression
- some textual errors

Verdict

Given that it's free and that it has a decent, albeit slow, story, I recommend this game to everyone who likes VN's and who is seeking something different from all the anime VN's that are out there, as well as to anyone who wants to try out a VN to see if it's a genre you might like. In my opinion, this easily offsets the fact that the game could use more meaningful choices and doesn't feature a save/load option. Worst case, you uninstall it and never touch it again :)

This visual novel may very well be the most original title on Steam.
A tale of alluring transhumanism, written as cheesy as it is pulpy and trashy, any "noir" aspect of it feels totally forced upon: telling the story of a corportate initaitve about creating artificial young women called "patents" in some kind of tubes (the science behind it gets hardly explained and everything feels rather magical), all set in a city that looks artificial itself.

You're Dr. Lang. A figure that is rather an employee of said corporation than your usual private eye.
Then there's your boss (?) "Joachim", a secretary (?) called "Maria", an attractive colleague turned "patent" and so forth. Nothing makes any sense at all.
Yet "Patent9" has the strangest aura possible and something that always draws you further in - especially thanks to its heavy Jazz soundtrack.
I don't know where the assets came from, or if this really was an original production, but all of the photographs used are high resolution and of a peculiar quality. There's certainly no other game of its kind with similar production values.

It's boring. Dialouge is uninteresting and roundabout often using differnt words to say the same things over and over. The first hour is just two co workers argueing and dealing with Daddy issues. It is slow and uneventful.

Pace is killed more by the fadeing affect used to change backgorunds and images on screen. It'll goe like *Fade in image* *Single line of Dialouge* *Fade out* *Fade in image* *single line of dialouge* *fade out* *repeat 3 more times*

The Autosave feature is the worst. You can't save your progress at points as the game saves it for you. Instead of saving and loading from a file, you have to jump to scenes only after you unlock them. In the first hour, you get to a potion of gameplay where you are doing a timed puzzle. If you fail, the game saves your failure and you must continue on after it happens. To get a second chance at the puzzle you got to back to the beginning of the game, and sit through all the terrible dialouge again. You can mash your key board or space bar to hurry, but Why should you?

Overall: An interesting attempt at Noir themed VN, but bad Dialouge, low immersion, and lack of a good save/load feature make this game a waste of time.

Noticed the demo looking through steam.
I've found it quite interesting and intriguing, to my surprise.
It's kind of retro-sci-fi-alternate-dimension-pulp-noire, I guess?
With Metropolis somewhere, maybe? Lang?
But not a detective or a crime story. And not as lewd, as screenshots here trying to sell it.

Black and white visuals.
Not a video, just an animated slideshow of pictures over backgrounds and text in a box below, sometimes choices and even recurring minigame.
The music fits quite well with the atmosphere.

A lot of internal monologue.
Can feel like a loop sometimes, but it makes sense in-game.
Like a recap every other chapter.
Like thoughts, that go over and over in your head

My impression - a bit weird, relaxing experience, with distinct style and chill music.
I'm still not 100% on all the meanings and details. Like, that sourceless voice, with some words from it in big light-up letters? What's up with that?

Try the demo!

There is no T'n'A BTW. And no proper credits for some reason.

Sleep inducing; perfect game for insomniacs.
For me that not is an insomniac; 3/10

What have the game got going on the poistive side?
Some backgrounds are pretty interesting with a certain Final Fantasy title wibe to them;
More over; the animations and "movements" of the characters have pretty high standard feel to them.

So what does it not got going for it?
Pretty much everything that would be counting towards this title being a game.
This is like 98% or more just bla bla bla.
This title is copying a tad to much from the 90´s pop culture; With "Fifth elememt"; "FF VII" referances all over the place.
So it becomes pretty predictable.

Not musterd go thru it all yet as I write this but, I cant imagen it gets any better them the cosplayed Leloo wannabe wrapped up girl.

Hi blablabla this blablabla is blablabla my blablabla review blablabla of blablabla Patent9.

Yes this game is a visual novel so a lot of text can be expected.
But the game reads like the above sentence most of the time.
A lot of text with no progress.
More than once I thought “Man come to the point for once”.

Gameplay wise there are some choices but overall there are very few.
Which would not be bad on its own but combined with the slow story progression with a lot of text that says nothing, makes the experience quite boring.

The Story reminded me a bit of Matrix minus the action.
But because how she unfolds she never gets the chance to be the focus of the game.

To sum it up.
A visual novel where the story gets diluted by a lot of text without saying anything is not worth the 4 hours you will need to read through it.
