Описание

RW:NW™ is a personal revisitation of the 80s' arcades where I spent most of my pocket money as a kid. It's also my very first solo project after six years of working on much larger team projects.
After all that work on slow pachyderms, I wanted to take a stab at something smaller, faster to make, and granting a more immediate fun.
So, I dusted a gameplay idea I hid in a drawer a couple of years back, I set it up as a 30 minutes-a-day project and started working on it during lunch breaks. When the prototype was welcomed quite enthusiastically by the first testers, I decided to make it real.

Razerwire:Nanowars™ is as a simple little game, quite replayable and with a little nice set of upgrades, achievements and highscores to beat to satisfy the progression geek in all of us.

It is suggested to play with a mouse, but now since version 1.07, Razerwire integrates full controller support as well

If you get to have half the fun playing it as I had making it, I think you'll cherish it!

Cheers,
Emiliano, @DokHgn

  • Use the mouse to maneuver a monomolecular filament (the RazerWire) to protect your generators and kill the nanobugs assaulting them.
  • Survive endless waves of attackers with increasing difficulty.
  • Avoid hits on the Generators.
  • Use the RazerWire to destroy your enemies.
  • Use left and right mouse click to activate some powerups (like the Antimatter Blaster and the PowerWave).

Enjoy a rogue-like progress: Survive as many waves as possible, die, use earned points to unlock upgrades and powerups, and then jump back in the fight (there are checkpoints every 20 waves, no worries!)

  • Multiple enemy types with several variants each :
  • 7 Movement types (including Teleport, Accelerating Zig zags and Escaping from the Wire)
  • 4 Shooting modes including homing missiles, scrambling bullets and all-around shooting
  • 2 Armor types
  • Multiple unlockable upgrades for the Wire including Shields, Armor, Health and Recovery Times
  • Up to 7 powerups including Anabolishields, Nanoblades and Chrono Molasses
  • Procedural difficulty increase in the endless waves progression
  • If you like what you see, feel free to follow me (@DokHgn) and RWNW (@RzW_NW) on Twitter! Support is the best fuel for productivity ;)

In a future far, far away, humanity has colonized most of the galaxy. However, our world is being exterminated by an unseen enemy.

When scientists figured out that the killers are nano-sized, virus-like aliens, Dr.Illerotsap modifies a medical tool, a monomolecular filament used for nano-scale medical operations, and turns it into a formidable weapon against the enemy.

The RazeWire was born.

My thanks go first and foremost to my family and to Jenny, for supporting my mad attempts at making a living with a job that I love.

To Olaf for sharing my office throughout the whole development, drooling over my flip flops and covering the floor with hair and love.

To my friend Ottavio from Mash Machine for having made the super cool music for the game.

To Yannis for all the help with the copies and marketing (I am even worse at that than at art otherwise ;) ).

To Juhani Junkala for his amazing 8-bit VFX libraries

To Siim and Mikk for the moral support throughout the project.

The game itself has one gimmick, little variety, mediocre visuals, and not much of a challenge, but contains a surprising amount of bugs.
For example, scrambling missiles are supposed to invert your controls, but (at least with mouse controls) getting hit by them also flips your position around the center of the screen, which can and will teleport you into other hazards.
Another example is that if you try to charge up the force wave (by holding down a button) you'll also fire an antimatter bullet (normally fired by pressing the same button), which is a complete waste given that the force wave will wipe all enemies on screen: and no, you can't get around the issue with rebinds.

Cheap, but not worth your time.

Man, this one's been on my pile of games to play for far too long. Fantastic arcade-style shooter with a twist, really having a great time with it. It's timeless rather than retro, definitely not too late to fire it up if you haven't already =)

Exceptional arcade-style shooter. Nanowire mechanic's refreshing and innovative and the focus on powerups lends a touch of strategy. Also contains roguelike upgrades. Super replayable and addictive!

This game is a one trick pony that wears very thin very quickly. There is nothing specifically bad about the game, but there just isn't much depth here.

This is freaking brilliant!

So simple, so cheap, so polished, so colorful so fun.
I love it, didn't expect this as I came from their other game page, that while mega good is a whole universe of distance in terms of genre and style!

You've got a satellite with a shield and a laser wire or whatever of a nanomolecular thing it is, you need to draw circles around the enemies with the mouse, buy powerups and do funny stuff i never saw in a game. A real little gem, recommended!

bought this because it had cool cover art to go along with my profile. Game is cheap, so why not? Also figured, why not give it a try.

It was actually pretty fun at first, never really played anything like it. Enjoyed the colors and style quite a bit. However, even in full screen the cursor strays to my other monitors when playing, making it rather irritating and practically impossible to play unless i have only the one monitor on.

I'd like to give it a thumbs up and i know nothing really about being a dev but i kinda figured something like fullscreen mode should work in 2021.

EDIT: fullscreen works :D

This is a simple, retro-style throwback to old, fun arcade games, as the description says. The mechanics of the combat are a little unique to this game, and are very satisfying once you get a handle on them. As well, the game includes many upgrades and unlockable elements that make each run exciting, as you always feel you are making small bits of progress. At it's normal price of just $2, this is a steal. At it's current sale price ($0.49), it's an absolute no-brainer!

Simple, addictive, arcade action. Start racking up those combos!

Stylish graphics, fast music, easy game controls, simple gameplay, all kinds of power-ups and achievements to go for, and you can play this in bite-sized chunks of time, like a few minutes here and there. It's everything I enjoy in a small indie arcade-type of game! I got this on sale for 49¢. Awesome!

The game's core mechanic is rather simple, but also unique. On top of it, there's just enough progression to keep it interesting for a few hours. The Achievements are relatively easy to accomplish within that time without feeling like freebies. All-in-all, a good budget experience to kill a few hours.

This game is an original idea for an arcade game, and the game is nicely but simply presented. Unfortunately the game idea (that you catch aliens in your laser beam by moving your pointer around} is not good enough by itself. The difficulty comes from you not being able to see aliens appearing just off screen, so if you move your pointer to the most efficient position at the edge of the screen you may die randomly. I suppose this game reminds me most of the ancient atari game missile command. It shares some elements but is no way as good as that classic and is much simpler than even that. I cannot give this a thumbs up this despite the low price.

Razerwire: Nanowars is a retro (80's) action-arcade game that progression addicts are certain to love. The game reminds me of the games that I would play for countless hours as a child. It is the result of a lunchtime, 30-minute a day, project developed by a dev who works on much larger projects. That makes this a bit of a passion project that has been programmed with love.... and that love shines through.

A Genuinely Pro-Gamer Developer

When Razerwire: Nanowars went on sale the developer posted the deal to Reddit's r/Gamedeals and disclosed that the game was a part of an OtakuMaker bundle just as they went bankrupt. Unfortunately, he did not receive the ten thousand keys that he submitted back nor did he ever get paid for them. Other developers from the bundle who also never got paid had the keys revoked. However, knowing that legitimate purchases were made before the bundle was pulled, decided against revoking the keys. This resulted in a loss of hundreds of dollars from the loss of keys nor did he receive payment from OtakuMaker from the legitimate buyers.

Gameplay

Gameplay is simple. The player guides their monomolecular filament (the RazerWire) across the screen protecting its generator from the nanobugs whose sole purpose is to destroy it.

There is a lot of variety in the enemies each with their own intelligence, movement patterns, and level of aggressiveness. For example, some bugs will race towards your generator whilst the usually easier (sometimes not) bugs will hang out at the corner of the screen or go in multiple different ways with some of them just causing a distraction without necessarily heading to your generator. I personally found some of these bugs to be a greater challenge than those who are aggressive from the nanosecond they hit your screen.

Additionally, the further you play into the game the higher the types and total bugs are thrown at you. You're not just going to be seeing the same bugs on the screen at any one time. In order to be successful you're going to need to think on your feet and learn the movement of each bug.

I loved the upgrade system in the game. You can upgrade both your razerwire as well as your generator. You can upgrade these from both a defensive and offensive perspective. Each upgrade comes with a different cost. The player is awarded a unit of currency for every 1000 points that they score within the game. Upgrades cost between 1 and 3 units of currency at the beginning and scale up each time you upgrade.

Presentation

As I grew up playing Commodore 64, Atari, arcade machines, and other early console games I was hoping for authenticity from the presentation. If a developer is going to bill their game as a 'modern revisitation of the 80s' arcades' then it can't be something super modern. Thankfully, the developer has delivered on this front in spades. It's everything that I could hope for from an 80's style presentation from a graphical perspective. Additional kudos needs to go to the musician, Ottavio Cambieri of Mashmachines.

The only downside I can see is that the lime green menu background comes off as dangerously garish. However, this is me being more pedantic than anything else.

Replayability

For a low priced game there aren't many that possess higher levels of replayability. In fact, I would argue that the entirety of the game relies on it. There are multiple reasons for this.

First, at the end of every 'run' the player has the opportunity to start from the most recent checkpoint passed or to start from the beginning. This makes it so that there is never a point that you reach a wave that is too difficult for your ability level. Additionally, resetting to wave zero enables you to retain upgrades, nanopoints, and kills while only losing your score progress.

The downside to this replayability system and resetting scores is that the game gives you multiple (3) save slots. The replayability system almost makes having multiple save slots pointless. However, I'll readily admit that if you have family or friends who share your Steam account that would like to play they'll be able to do so without affecting your save. Simply give them their own slot.

Disability Accessibility

High-Level Accessibility: The game can be played entirely through mouse (and trackpad for laptop users). It also has full controller support. As long as you can push the mouse/trackpad and use the left and right buttons then you can do everything that the game requires you to do.

Steam Features

  • Steam Achievements
  • Steam Leaderboards
  • Steam Stats
  • [*] Steam Cloud

There are currently no trading cards available for players.

Value for Money

I purchased the game at its half-price discount thanks to the aforementioned sale. However, the game is cheap when it's not on sale at A$2.95. This makes the 'value for money' discussion kind of mute. At the price point you're not looking for several hundred hours of value.

Final Verdict

I came with low expectations. I wanted to support a developer who did the right thing by gamers and to have a few minutes of low-value gaming fun. I thought I would then delete the game and it'd be +1 to my Steam game count. Anything more was gravy. I definitely have gravy. Razerwire: Nanowars is a game that I will keep installed on both my laptop and desktop. It's the perfect little throwback action arcade game that I will play for a few minutes during work hours when I need a quick pick me up. If you're looking for something similar in a game then you've come to the right place. An easy recommendation.

Personal Note: This is my first review since gaining a permanent disability. From now on my reviews will feature a disability accessibility component.

A fun arcadey thing with a cool mechanic. You have to swing your RAZERWIRE around to destroy all kinds of enemies. A good variety of upgreades. Good price. Funny tooltips. It's a no brainer for a pick up and play sort of experience.

I bought this on sale (so 39p instead of 79p!), turned down the volume, put on some podcasts, and 100%ed it in an afternoon - and enjoyed pretty much the whole experience.

The only part that I came to dread happening was the "scrambled" controls, which never failed to frustrate me, but that's by design. I decided that it was better to sit still & take damage than try to move & get destroyed...

Sure, the game is simple (& can be a bit of a grind depending on what upgrades you're focusing on), but there's more than enough depth in the variety of enemies & powerups, along with whether you choose to defend close to your base or prefer to reach out further to chase score combos & collect items.

It's fun in the way that Nickervision arcade games are fun - it does one thing, does it well, doesn't outstay its welcome, but could always fill a few minutes if you like chasing high scores after all the achievements have been unlocked.

Razerwire:Nanowars is a very fun game, sold at an incredible price!

The audiovisual feedback you get when killing bugs is very good, and albeit the game gets a bit chaotic in later stages, upgrades ensure that you can always keep up with the enemies and steadily progress in the game.

You get checkpoints every 20 waves, and it's fun trying to keep pushing for the 500th wave (currently the most advanced achievement in the game).

As far as achievements are concerned, they will accompany your trip in the game in a fun and not too stressful way: they are very balanced, and ensure you can 100% the game in about 4 hours. A perfect duration for this kind of game.

At this price, you really can't go wrong with Razerwire!

My 4 years old son say:

"oh oh, this game is beatiful!"
"use the missile daddy! use the missile!"
"be careful or the red ball (the mine) will hurt you!"

My year old baby starts dancing when the music during the waves play.

Isn't this enough to buy the game? ;)

Razerwire Nanowars is a simple but funny game. You have to survive wave after wave from a ton of insects, all spiced up by useful powerups, growing difficulty and a 80s style music that you never get tired of. Don't be discouraged if you have to repeat some waves several times: you probably just have to unlock the correct powerups to go further!

Music: 9
Graphic: 9
Gameplay: 8 (some powerups balance is needed, but the dev is active, hope's coming soon)
Price: 10 (on this price range it is not guaranteed to find polished products)

Enjoy!!

I searched for a game like this one for a long time - a game catchy enough to be fun but that doesn't require full attention. This game is perfect to play while you watch a tv series or even while you work (for example I have to wait a lot during my job looking at the screen).

It costs almost nothing (less than a coffee!) and (I presume) it can last a lot.

It's simple but well done, solid and have all the options I need (not many I admit - volume down, small window).

It also pauses when you click outside the window ^^ perfect for work.

The game itself is completely mouse - based, you can play it with one hand. Wave after wave enemies will attack you but if you die you will restart from a checkpoint, keeping your xps. Death is not really punished. Using your xps you can buy upgrades that will help you to go further in the game.

I strongly recommend it if this is the kind of game you are looking for.

A lot of fun especially for the price, the game plays nice and is challenging. The checkpoints and upgrades systems work well, I have felt challenged but not frustrated, even when you feel stuck you are still making progress towards getting better upgrades to help you clear the wave.

For a retro arcade feel game with some new twists I highly recommend this for some fun, especially at this price point.
