Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for people enjoying whatever they want, but when a game goes out of its way to make its identity its entire premise, it feels less like a game and more like a vehicle for political messaging.
In terms of mechanics, it's pretty basic. There’s not a whole lot of substance here. Sure, there's some exploration, but the world-building is entirely based on, you guessed it, the theme of LGBTQ+ identity. In fact, it's so focused on that aspect that it detracts from any real gameplay depth. There’s no challenge here, no competition. It’s all about "acceptance" and "celebration," which—again—feels more like a lecture than an engaging gaming experience.
Now, let’s talk about the narrative. There’s this constant emphasis on personal identity, which, let me tell you, is one of those things I just can’t get behind in the context of a game. A game should be about skills, overcoming challenges, and achieving success based on what you do—not your identity. This game makes everything about the characters' sexuality, which is, frankly, shallow and misses the point of what gaming should really be about.
The graphics? Not bad, but certainly nothing groundbreaking. The art direction might appeal to a certain crowd, but it's not exactly revolutionary. It’s nothing you couldn’t find in other indie games, except with more of a "message" driving it.
In the end, "Gay World" feels more like a political statement than a game. It might appeal to a niche audience that is interested in that message, but if you’re looking for a game that challenges you, pushes boundaries, and provides a compelling experience based on skill and creativity, this one falls short.
