Kansei is the second installment in a great murder mystery Visual Novel. Once again we get into shoes of Kangai, who now has a lovely bunch of friends with mysterious powers. Powers that are very helpful with solving the mysteries, but come with a price.
Given the game is a mystery novel, you get to solve a mystery. And you do that by searching various rooms and speak with people at the scene. All the backgrounds and characters designs once again are done very well. And characters are voice overed, which is a nice thing to have.
Just like the first game, this one is absolutely worth getting if you’re a fan of murder mysteries or just want to get into the topic.
Also played the game before it was put on Steam. You can find that on my YouTube channel on Kansei playlist.
This is the second game in the series, picking up immediately where Jisei ended, and although it isn’t entirely necessary to play it I highly recommend it. The quality is still there and there are three fully-fledged “endings” this time, although one of them is doesn’t makes any sense but maybe it will in the next game. The one thing is that the sound mixing is a little weird and some voices can be louder than others but it is a very minor complaint.
It is a good experience and meant to be played with the other titles.
PS: The one thing that you should notice is that one of the endings, “Imprusted?” won’t give the achievement and someone in the guide also seems to have dealt with the same problem. It happened in the first game too but I loaded the save and did it and it worked fine, but in this one I redid this ending two more time and still didn’t got the achievement.
My mind not changed much since playing the first part and I still recommend it. This novel looks more like a part of a story (chapter in a book, if you wish) and not an independent game.
In this game, taking place the next day after the first solved case, we have another dead body. Not we have more details about the main character and a bit of understanding how we got to this point, but there are still dark holes.
We also get to know more about twins and so-called "agency" and detective from the first part. Something tells me we will se much more info about them and the main character in the next part. At least, I hope so.
- Game play is a bit better, but not much of change.
- Character are voiced, it fills good.
- Game is a big longer. Especially if you want to play all the content available. There is 2 ending + 1 secret ending.
- I like the characters, even through they are not very detailed. They still are quite lovable. Li Mei is a favourite. ^^
So, with this all to say, I recommend you to try it. Especially, if you also played the first part, this one will be a nice addition. See you in the 3rd part ;)
I loved this game, it is nice to see Kangai make more friends.
Too bad, he missed his chance to get answer (but came at the right time to solve the murder).
What is strange is that the nephew didn't realize at the end of the story that he was now very rich
and instead he just flew away. (I would have stayed ... :) )
Then again, I love the universe, the characters are both well drawn and interesting.
Twice as good as the first game, Jisei. (Which is really good!) And more than twice as long. With nice music, well done English voice acting, lovely art, and a new mystery to solve - it's worth your time. Highly recommended. Now onto the final game in the trilogy!
Play this just after I finish Jisei. I must admit, this game will be confusing without walkthrough, but since I used one, then its ok. Different with Jisei where there is only one linear (good) end, you should kind of finish all ending here to get a perfect one---including the bad ones. I mean that's happen a lot with VNs, but it can be confusing if you have no idea what to do. But since you play in steam anyway, you should kind of get the idea then.
Story wise it's okay. Get back and forth to upstairs-entrance-hall-rooms can be tiring, but in the end they're worth it. I can't really enjoy most of the voice acting, though, but maybe that's because I just not get used to it. I still listening to them, but if you have the same problem, you can kind of turn off the voice so honestly it's not a problem.
As a murder mistery, idk why I dont really care about who is the murder since this one have one main mistery/story which I'm looking forward more than finding about the murderer.
Tl;dr if you like mystery, I pretty much recommended this. If you use walkthrough to get achievements, please be careful with each moves because one wrong move can make you not get an achievements. I was failed to get the Imprusted achievement in my first try and must redo it from start before finally get it and realized I did one wrong move in the living room in my previous try.
KANSEI is a direct sequel to JISEI, so if you haven't played that game first, you'll probably want to, as it references events and characters from the previous game. If JISEI was like a prequel, KANSEI is where the story really begins, and it's a game I feel you really need to play with the first one in order to get an idea as to whether or not this series will be one for you.
This time around, you're tagging along with the characters you met in JISEI as they go to report to their client - William Auten himself, the chairman of Auten Engineering. There, you stumble into yet another murder investigation, though fortunately this time you're not a suspect. During your investigation, you'll also pick up tidbits about the mysterious main character's past, like his name and a bit of his history, as well as clues about the experiments Auten Engineering was running in the past and their connection to events in the present. You'll also meet the fan favourite Li Mei, who is possibly even more of a mystery than our protagonist.
KANSEI improves a lot on what was already good in JISEI. Now when you click examine, the main character, nicknamed Kangai, doesn't just tell you what he observes. The game relies on you to do the observing for him, by clicking on the various objects around the room and reading what he has to say about them. This isn't just a feature for fun, either - some of the items you click on will unlock new pieces of dialogue or lead you to clues that help you solve the case.
Something else KANSEI has improved on is the branching routes that visual novels are famous for. Now instead of only having the true route and a dead end route, there are actually four endings - two regular, one a dead end, and one the true end - which are necessary for unlocking the Epilogue. Endings are determined by the choices you make, and choosing to trust - or not trust - certain characters can change the route you're on. You'll find that completing all of the endings, and replaying the game to select different choices, is necessary in order to learn everything you can from the game about the series larger mystery.
The voice acting also steps up a bit this game, as you can tell the voice actors are getting more comfortable in their roles as the recurring characters. But if you prefer to read on your own, you still have the option of turning the voices off, or just turning them off for specific characters, just like in JISEI.
If you enjoyed the last game, and you love mystery stories with a psychic twist and a great sense of humor to lighten the mood, this game is definitely one you should try. The JISEI series only gets better with each installment!
