Warning: GameGuru Asset Flip!
Amazeing Lemons is a what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" bought the GameGuru first person shooter construction kit (no coding required, it's just a GUI!) and cobbled out a map or two using stock GameGuru assets... nothing in this game can really be called the creation of the developer, and yet they also failed to credit GameGuru or acknowlegde any of the GameGuru assets. They're trying (badly) to pass someone else's work as their own.
It's just a bunch of random GameGuru assets dropped around a really lazy, stock textured GameGuru map template. This time they used some cartoony assets from some GameGuru pack, but at the end of the day it's just GameGuru and if you've played one GameGuru asset flip, you've played them all.
This asset flip is so badly done it's even using the default GameGuru "options" page, it has been reskinned but there's basically no options for the gamer to tweak... and let's be clear, GameGuru is a completely godawful construction kit. If you try to take it seriously as a game, you'll find no resolution or graphics tweaks, no controller tweaks... it's horribly optimised and will be sluggish even on high end rigs.
You can make the argument that GameGuru exists to just make demos and little experimental games to pass around with friends, but that's not what's happened here... the developer is seriously trying to scam people into paying money for this construction kit copy+paste asset flip. That's not okay!
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Amazeing Lemons is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Note: Because this is more of a "joke" game, intended to draw attention from controversy or in the hopes of going viral because it's "so bad it's good" (but it isn't good at all), there's nothing here to offer to serious gamers. As usual, with most awful/joke games, all the comedians come out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this game are joke reviews, such as "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" etc. Because most of the reviews are as insincere as the game itself is, and if you removed the fake/joke reviews the game would have a markedly different review score, the positive review score for this game should be disregarded.
Magnific, perfecto, praise god!
I got a 90% off coupon from a trading card badge. Would not pay any more than that for this game. I'll also probably never touch it again. Tasty, though.
This game is mostly fine, the mechanics work with no issue, the music is a bit repetitive, but it's relaxing, and the mazes are well built enough, minus being able to leave some maps and softlocking yourself. All in all it's a fine game, but there are 3 HUGE issues holding this game back from me recommending it.
1: The game doesn't save any progress. I don't know how many levels are in this game, but it demands you to finish the entire game in a single run, if you ever quit the game or go back to the main menu for any reason, than your progress is immediately deleted.
2: Performance seriously sucks in this game. I have an Alienware laptop that can run games like Doom Eternal and God of War with next to no frame issues, yet this game lags and takes over a minute just to open, than another minute just to start the match.
3: The price. The game is NOT worth $8.39 it just isn't. There just isn't enough in the game, no matter how many levels there are, it's just one simple game pattern looped for however many levels, and since the download size is so small, I doubt there's many.
Just too many issues that make this game frustrating and unfun. Pass on this one.
Deciding whether or not I recommend this game was as difficult as picking the red pill or the blue pill. On one hand, it is a cinematic masterpiece grossly undervalued at the low price of $10. This game gave me the immaculate brain power to solve world hunger. I think with more players, we have the potential to solve racism and homophobia as well. According to Prezi, the archetype for yellow represents, "sunny, cheerful, joyous, happy, excited, inspired, creative". Having collected thousands of yellow lemons, I can confirm these are the feelings I truly feel throughout the gameplay. (Just wait until you get to the BIG lemons). But on the other hand, the game is far too short. I pity anyone who feels the same positive sensations just to discover, like myself, that it is so short lived. I strive for the same emotional high that I felt the first time playing "Amazeing Lemons", but each replay numbs my feelings and eyes to the color yellow more and more.
overall 11/10
I tend to really enjoy walking simulators. I don't get out much,so sometimes a walk through a nice digital environment is just what I need. I got a 90% off coupon for this, and figured I'd give it a go.
There's no story, you just walk around collecting lemons and oranges...with a STRICT time limit.
You start with very little time on the clock, oranges give extra time, but there aren't many in each level, and there are HUNDREDS of lemons to get. Later levels have even fewer oranges,so you really need to be thorough and avoid backtracking.
Unfortunately, lemon placement tends to be erratic, some levels they're in mostly linear paths, others you'll walk down a lengthy path only to find one...sometimes they'll be placed directly in front of another yellow thing, so you can't even see them...or shoved behind a rock...all the while your clock is ticking.
As far as the mazes themselves, there seems to be only three styles:
Village hedge-maze DAY.
Village hedge-maze NIGHT.
Crystal cave.
...They aren't overly complicated layouts, but because they just keep reusing the same look, they all blur together...LV3 is the exact same layout as LV1,but with a night sky...LV 2 is the unique caves, but every other level looks exactly like LV1...ya see the screenshots up there ^? That's all ya get.
There are very few landmarks to keep track of...so navigating is a real pain.
But no worries right? if you can't do a level in time, you'll just reload your save and try again...right?
WRONG.
THERE IS NO SAVE! If you fail any level it's back to the main menu and LEVEL 1 for you!!!
With considerable determination,I made it as far as level 6,looking at game files there may only be 6 levels [but I don't really know what i'm looking at, so don't quote me on that.] I couldn't find any oranges on lv6, and my sanity died completely...I don't have the will to try anymore.
As almost an afterthought I should also mention...while the music is fine at first, it gets maddening after a while...and the load times of the levels are quite long.
Even though there doesn't seem to be many levels, they take quite a bit of time to complete,so the lack of save is totally unreasonable...and so is this price! $10.99? I may like walking simulators, but I never would have paid that much for this! as is,even my 90% discount feels like I paid too much.
This certainly isn't a relaxing walk,and it's rough time limit isn't rewarding...the lack of save...the price...the copied over and over levels...yeah...this game's a LEMON alright.
fun calming game to play in free time
I got a solid 120-130 FPS on a RTX 3080, I played for a little bit and it left a bitter taste. This game is about as much fun as licking a lemon skins laced with Broken Glass.
this is an amazing game to simulate what is like to be a lemon picker overall i rate this a 10/10
I was feeling particularly allergic today and I thought, why not play Amazeing Lemons?
The premise is simple: there’s a maze with lemons hidden inside. Your goal is to collect all the lemons within the time limit. There are also a couple of oranges, which will extend your timer by one minute.
Sounds easy? Well, hurr durr, it’s a maze. So unless you’re amazeing at mazes, you’re going to have a bad time.
All in all, this is a fun game to lose yoursef in for a little while, until the healthy frustration of not finding those two last lemons in 10 seconds hit you, and you quit.
When life does not give you lemons, It gives you this.
