In the wake of the Noble Faction’s occupation of Heimdallr, civil war has broken out across Erebonia. The provincial armies, loyal to the aristocracy and the Four Great Houses, have claimed many of the nation’s great cities in the name of the Noble Alliance. The Imperial Army, called back from the four corners of the Empire, has only just begun its sweeping counterattack.
After Rean managed to escape Trista with Celine and Valimar, he awakens in the mountains near his hometown uncertain what fate befell his friends, who bravely threw themselves in harm’s way to buy him time to flee.
Though the road will not be an easy one, Rean decides to take up his sword again, journeying across Erebonia with his Divine Knight, Valimar, in search of his friends from Class VII and a way to end the conflict before its price becomes far too dear…

The second part of the Erebonia arc expands on the previous game with more of the characters of Class VII and more. The latter part of the game is the best part for sure, the epilogue chapter was such a sweet end to the game! If you loved the last game, you'll love this one too! I can't wait to play more and see what happens next!
Building up on the solid foundation Cold Steel 1 left this game manages to climb to one of my top stops for trails games. The story was fantastic and the gameplay was very fun
Good game, did power through it though
Very good JRPG, should be played after part 1, as the two make up one complete game.
hoyl fuck i just love jrpgs and doomed yaoi
good game lol except for a 10 hour ass epilogue :(
not as good as the first one but important to the story, still recomended tho
Liking the story
Good game
bit of a strech, a lot of dialogue, still a great story and continuation of the first cold steel game.
An excellent sequel to the first game. This is basically more of the same as the first game, but I feel like this game truly shines once you get to Act 2, and that's when it starts to define itself as a different game than the first.
Excellent musical score, but similar to the first. More excellent character development with the huge roster of characters we can have in our party. Excellent voice acting as well! The voices fit the characters so well, and whoever did the casting definitely deserves praise.
That's one of my "complaints", is that I feel there are too many party members which make it hard to make a build for them as resources take time to grind.
It was definitely missing some quality of life features like the first game such as auto scrolling dialogue/text. I found it so annoying having to manually go through dialogue, and then accidentally pressing too early and cuts off mid-sentence, and jumps to the next dialogue.
One thing I did not like was the FINAL true dungeon. I did not like the design of it, or the fact that it's a procedurally generated dungeon of 12 floors if you exclude the 4 mini boss floors, and the final boss floor. Awful design. I don't know what they were thinking, but it's really such a boring final part of the game. I understand the main reason was that they kept it as a resource and EXP grinding location, but wow it pales to what the rest of the game offers.
Regardless, a fantastic JRPG. You won't be disappointed if you like Trails of Cold Steel 1. I'm definitely a fan! Onwards to Trails of Cold Steel 3!
P.S. I highly recommend modding/patching the game with the latest SenPatcher, and the HD Texture Pack to have a much better experience. It has some great quality of life fixes and bug fixes. It's really simple. On Steam's community tab, there is a pinned discussion thread regarding this.
Goodshit
Not my favorite Trails game but still worth every minute. This series is defined by the characters and the relationship with the world building, and once again, Falcom excelled here.
I did not care for it
Mid
the only good thing about this is phantom thief b.
If you have enjoyed the rest of the games in the series you will enjoy this one. A turn based RPG with great world building and story. If you have not played Cold Steel 1 I would not play with this game. If you play Trails in the sky trilogy, Zero, and Azure this game is even better.
I wish there was an in the middle option between yes and no. The publisher did something to the performance of this game. I played the original of this game on ps3 and it did not have any issues. Scenes are freezing until the music stops and changes. This was not a problem in the original. So scenes are freezing like 20-30 seconds. If that was not an issue, I would recommend the game. This issue is not found in the 1st, 3rd, nor the 4th game. I do not understand why Falcom did not make the publisher fix the issue because that can hurt their sales badly.
as good as the first
Another awesome game in the Trails series. If you played the games in order, then you already know what to expect. Gone is the chibi pixelated art style and replaced with a more modern 3D look. This interweaves the storyline from the Crossbell saga and gives a tease at what will come next. The game continues to bring in some fresh mechanics (pun intended) and makes it a new experience from the first Cold Steel game. There were quite a few surprises as well that I will avoid spoiling.
Cold Steels (CS) series is great to play after Sky series. CS 2 is much more polished and diverse than CS 1. Thank you Falcom and partners for such wonderful games!
What a way to bring the story to a close! Of course, there are still a few plot threads and an overarching narrative beyond the cast that are left open which I guess will be disclosed by future games. This game is more of the same if you've played the first part. Though, they've really expanded on all the systems in a really clever way that makes the gameplay both familiar and new. From the expanded cast with an ensemble of additional playable characters to the semi-open world that they have established, I do hope that they continue this trend of growing the gameplay systems to make it even deep and sophisticated with every entry in the series. With Part 1, I was kind of put-off with how the game ended so abruptly, but here they really nailed building the ending and bringing it to a satisfying conclusion.
Least favorite trails game and I know people don't like that epilogue but it really elevates the game as a whole for me. Having a final free day like CS1 and all the dialogue from all the NPCs and Class VII having that underlying feeling of this is our last day together culminating into the final scene with Millium in the final dungeon really got to me. What I'm trying to say is that Trails at its lowest is still peak to me love this franchise.
Played the first one, pretty much loved it. Left a review about how the game forces you to spend time reading insane amounts of dialogue, but that makes you actually give a crap about the characters and the story....
Then the final 5% of that game happens, and leads into the beginning of this one.
I'm out.
The animations and various things seems just a tad bit better in most ways for this one. So that's a plus
Its just so unavoidable that the ending of the first one and the opening of this one's story / plot just feels insane. It pretty much destroys the world's logic and plot and separates the player from the characters that they were forced to spend time with in the first.
Such odd choices. The escalfowne and war stuff just ends up feeling really strangely done as well, especially if you remember that the Jagers are still out there....
best part of the game is after the credits roll...
I'm not joking lmao
a bit late with this one because i beat it a while ago. it's better than the first game but it still is just a clunky and overall cliche mess. i think the overall character development is way better than the first and rean finally get's to be a protagonist for a bit so that's cool it gets a solid 7/10 for me.
masterpiece
music 100/10
gameplay 9/10
plot 9/10
There are many valid criticisms of this game, but even if this does end up being one of the worst Trails games, it's still a pretty good JRPG and it pushes the story of Zemuria forward nonetheless.
great
Cold Steel II is an incredibly mixed bag. There's a lot here that I like, and a lot that left me wanting. I appreciate what it tried to do with the story, and it got about 70% of the way there, but I still think it fell sort of flat. This is the first game in the series where I really started feeling the runtime, too, and it's not even the longest one so far.
All that said, the good here is REALLY good. Gameplay's as fun as ever. Not much to say there. This game probably has the coolest final boss up to this point. I wasn't big on Class VII in general excepting characters like Fie and Sara, but this game really warmed me to them, especially Rean himself. It's really satisfying to see the payoff for all the growth and inner turmoil Cold Steel I sets up. The Intermission and Divertissment chapters are some of the best story beats the series has to offer, too.
If you've made it this far, 7 games in, you'll enjoy it. No game in this series is skippable, either, so don't even think about it.
Having just finished this one, I'm almost 400 hours deep into the Trails series and the Imperial Chancellor has sabotaged the brakes; I've got to see this ride through to the end.
If you didn't like one you won't like two. If you did like one you will like two. Do yourself a favor and find a new game plus file so you can see the exclusive new game plus cutscenes, or just look it up on the internet. Drags a bit at the end.
Starts slow in Act 1 but ramps up. Ending is a little sad. Still, glad they rebalanced the master quartz system. Still prefer the fishing mini-game in the crossbell arc though.
Trails of Cold Steel II is another great game, though it's admittedly one of the weaker Trails games. There were really enjoyable parts of this game, but overall there were a decent amount of areas that made me long for the Sky trilogy. Rean has room for growth as a character, and some of his classmates feel a little one-note. But god, the Divine Knight battles are epic, and the ARCUS is still fun and engaging for me! The post-game content alternated between extremely hype, mildly tedious, and wholly unexpected.
It was still a great game, and I can't stress enough that it is NECESSARY to get the most of the rest of the Trails games. There are some characters that are introduced in this game that become some of my favorites down the line, and Elise being absent from the story for most of the game is a HUGE win! Play this game after CS1 and Crossbell, and play the Sky games too but they aren't required to understand everything here.
They cooked
Valimar go brrrr
Better pacing and graphics than cold steel 1.
has rean schwarzer
Osborne is Gay
fun game , rean go vroom
If you are a fan of the other trails games then you'll enjoy this one too. Tons of story for your buck and improves the combat a bit with a few more characters and gimmicks to keep you entertained. A few tiny story gripes but not enough to put too much a damper on this half of the saga. 9/10 Worth.

This game depends so much on the previous game's plot arrangement system that everything interesting in this one is forced into a ridiculous amount of compartments leading to frustrating design decision after frustrating design decision.
Spooky shrines show up. Visit them no problem. Tomorrow, we have better things to do! We couldn't possibly go in there; it's not on the agenda (despite the fact we can rest indefinitely)! Next week, yes, we can go in there, but we must must must bring this character! Oh, also, you gotta have someone to activate the switch, and we already lock at least one person to your party. Who cares that that means you may have to back track 3 times if the characters you don't usually use are the ones you need for the trial chests? What, you think that's ridiculous? Wait until you do the trial, don't have enough damage out of the box, and get fainted over and over again because... that's fun right? Well, dOn'T yOu WaNt To ReTrY wItH LeSs DiFfIcUlTy? No, game designer, I wish you'd stop unequipping characters you have go rouge and screwing up the links I expected to be in place.
I hope the next one's better.
