Not a true market simulation in the sense that all price fluctuations are completely random and there aren't any real trends to follow. What seems to be the winning strategy is to pick a few low-value stocks in the beginning and hope the game decides to arbitrarily 'boost' one of them, which doesn't take any skill or pattern recognition/business acumen at all, just blind luck.
StockUp is a very poorly made text based spreadsheet simulator where you're supposed to play the stock market, however, while you can buy and sell stocks, the market itself does not behave like a stock market. Stocks just tick up and down randomly... and the purpose of a simulator is to simulate! The developer didn't bother. This really is quite trash and does deserve the rather large number of negative reviews it has (in fact I was surprised how many people bought and played the game, the screenshots alone should be enough to deter gamers).
There is, however, something very special about this game. Ludicrously, and I'm not making this up, it was made with the crapfest that is GameGuru. Yeah, you know, the drag and drop construction kit for making FPS games. Except this isn't an FPS game at all... some weird contortionism took place here to twist GameGuru into presenting a spreadsheet game. Does that mean the outcome is a good one? Of course not, here's why.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature.
For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static images... it might as well be a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC.
Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, GameGuru FPS Creator. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
StockUp is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
I play Steam games in alphabetical order and you can watch my review here (Game 2 of 3 featured): https://youtu.be/Ch68PXSf1Ug
A stock market simulator where the chance of a stock increasing or decreasing is 50/50, meaning that there are no viable tactics, just luck.
Should you decide to play this game, the best method of winning is to immediately pause the game, buy 1 stock and then wait for 10-15 minutes while the bonus system increases your stock to the maximum value. Sell, then repeat 10 times to beat the game.
That said, I don't know why you would do this rather than spending your money on a game that is actually good.
I dunno man, i found it fun because it was easy. I didn't lose any money
meh
I won't refund it 'cause I've got it for almost nothing
the game is extremely simplistic and is more like a little toy rather than a game to be sold
and what are these fake loading screens for?
Review:
I bought this game with a 90% off coupon (80c) i got when crafting a badge. The name and description of the "game" is misleading and incorrect. Although it might look like a fun or strategic simulation the game has no "meaning" whats so ever. All you do is try and gamble your money on different stocks that might go up or down, there is no strategy whats so ever. If you do get this game for a very little amount of money it may be worth it. I DO NOT recommend buying this game for what it may seem it is.
!!! WARNING !!!
I was just going through my old reviews and noticed this developer has removed their affiliation to this title (along with many others). "EcoGames" developer page on steam currently lists 5 games. 4 with no developer or publisher, and one game developed and published by "FireFly", whom is not "EcoGames". The store page for this game currently has a link above the "about game" in the description for another game called "Little Kingdoms" that is developed and published by... "LittleKingdoms"
I don't consider myself particularly smart, but something is very off here...
ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW:
1. You may have noticed that all of EcoGames games, are about easily making money with little effort. It seems as though this is exactly what they expect from their games. Easy money, no effort.
2. I have removed all other complaints, as if you cared about your game, they wouldn't exist. Thus my first complaint, says it all. If you don't like your game, why should we?
A fun little game.
But I feel the 2nd level can be a lot easyer!
I was doing well till the 2nd ai just got really lucky, I was just so close then ( around 7k ) I forgot to save toooo!
TL;DR
0/10: Proof that sometimes buying trading cards, emoticons, and/or profile backgrounds on the Steam market is more fun then some of the games the player is liable to buy.
Overview:
StockUp is a shovelware gambling "game" masquerading as a stock market game. You buy stocks, and the prices may go up or down. Contrary to what is said on the store page, this game is neither "fun" nor a "simulation."
Graphics and Sound:
I knew what I was getting when I got this bundle. (Which I only got for the sake of buying Make That Money.) So what if it's 2017 and the game is text driven? There's quite a few text-based games that date back to the Reagan administration that are good fun. Obviously a stock market game doesn't need graphics to make it interesting or fun, but I expect the text to be clear and concise!

The sound on the other hand, is actually far more positive. The soundtrack may be the most positive aspect of the game. None of the songs help set the mood for a high stakes financial setting, but at least the songs are pleasing to hear.
Positives:
The intro to the game is amusing.

Negatives:
This is the worst game I've ever played involving something masquerading a the stock market, and I've played just about everything except for Black Monday. (And I'm sure Black Monday is better on account of it's craptastic CGA pictures.)
Conclusion:
Now I see why publishers bundle games together: Because you wouldn't buy stuff like this as a standalone game. If only I had a physical copy of this game, I could have thrown it in the air and shot at it with my Glock, but alas, stuff like this shows you just how good the NES bomb Wall Street Kid really was, and as bad of a game Wall Street Kid turned out to be, I'll even go back to it every so often.
But if you want a stock market video game, get Rags To Riches. It's F2P outside of Steam, and despite being nearly twenty-five years old, no other stock market game comes close. If you want to spend money on Steam, buy trading cards for your favorite game instead.
Hum...Boring,Goals are really impossible, the use of keyboard to buy...
The Idea ain't so Bad but it's too expensive for what it is.
Waste of Time
Deffinatly only worth 50 cents this game does not follow the market and their is no news feeds.
Its bad. Bit misleading, all it is, is numbers will go and down and its flip of coin if goes up and down simliar to the markets but at least in the markets you have some idea what you trading in profile, charts etc....
The layout is bad as well, the news report is difficult to read with all information cramed in one spot.
Serious updating is needed.
just some numbers nothing more. And the loading screens are ... ... .... For 0.50$ its ok but nothing more. Shit i paid 3.99€ -.-
