I like this game. The strategy and game play are simple, and it uses one's ability to create a path in two dimensions. I find this is a relaxing way to relax my brain in a spatial rather than verbal method. It is not expensive, so give it a try if you like spatial puzzles.
Simple and fun
Warning: Asset Flip!
Water Pipeline is an asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated someone else's Pipe Dreams ripoff tutorial/demo/asset pack, changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and submitted it to Valve as if it was their own game.
Boogygames Studios have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "Weapon and Armor: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
- "Color By Number - Pixel Draw" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
- "Pixel Art Monster - Color By Number" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
- "Rainbow Duck" = Switch The Gravity developed by App Advisory
- "Case Simulator Weapons and Armors" = Yet Another Case Opener developed by NeraQuam
- "Loot Collection: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
[*] "Food Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. That's right, only 2. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.
Water Pipeline is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the unethical nature of the developer, this is impossible to recommend.
yeah for $3 its just a bit of fun and a laugh, lots of levels which was surprising, maybe too many. wouldn't be a game I could sit at for hours though... :)
To be honest, if you even like this sort of game even the slightest, it's a great little game you can repeat and solve your way through whilst having a chilling conversation with a friend, or just something to do in the background to keep your brain even minutely functioning.
To a degree, this even surprisingly grasps the same tier of attention-seeking, low effort, minimalistic quality, and simplistic charm as snakes or flappy bird. Something awfully basic. So basic that it wouldn't be the thing to win you over to say it was the best thing to ever happen in your day. But still something that's enough, something just there in the background of your attention, just trying its best to keep you tuned in this morning, but with the little it has to offer.
Now, water you waiting for? Earn those big bucks, and rotate as many crooked, rusty, floating, pointless pipes as you can!
Hey, if you think about it, it's even watering that tree in the background. So, this game is even pretty good for the environment. XD
Boring, not much to see here. There are much better clones of pipemania/pipedream out there.
Quite a nice concept of connecting pipes in the correct way. However, the game is really easy and gets boring after about 10 minutes since there are only two types of pipes. The music is alright though. All 60 puzzles can be completed in less than an hour.
Short version: 33%
As rare as pipe puzzle games are, Water Pipeline is just too barebones and haphazardly coded to satisfy even the most basic needs for this sub-genre.
Long version:
One of the biggest issues with this game is that it is difficult to determine what goal it tries to achieve. Technically, it is a pipe puzzle game, but there is zero difficulty. We get nothing but straights and elbow pieces, we can only rotate the tiles, and most importantly, the first two of the four difficulties give nothing but a straight line, where the solution is all but there already.
Furthermore, there are the coding issues. The game can just refuse to register input. All four difficulty screens show 15 stages, but if we start playing, the levels seem to go on infinitely, using some sort of a barely working randomiser that eventually results in same-looking puzzles.
Maybe you can use this game to introduce pipe puzzles to a very small child, but otherwise it is too rough around too many edges to recommend.
Fun ..... makes ya think ...... Great for kids .....
