This sequel has you exploring the town to resolve the conflict that arose at the end of the previous episode. It's a neat town, but do note that the time of day affects who and what will show up, and that's tied to your PC clock. An NPC tells you this during the day, but if you work during the day, and can only play this at night, you'll never know; bad move. You can also switch between day and night by pressing P; it never tells you this at all. Overall, it just isn't quite as good as the first episode; it's still plenty weird, and I loved that, but it ends with one of those mazes where choosing the wrong direction takes you back to the very beginning, and only some of the screens have clear visual cues as to which way to go. And it takes you back SLOWLY; your patience is wearing thin, but you still have to wait for it to fade out and back in without the ability to move EVERY TIME. Everything is slow, even pressing the button to skip the text crawl; controls are very delayed in most everything that isn't just walking around. That's a problem in the first episode, too, but it really starts to wear away at you here.
Positives
+good soundtrack
+consistent over-the-top atmosphere
+decent writing (apart from virtue signaling "racist rights" joke)
+cheap
+nice sprites
Negatives
-short (my playtime is not accurate because I AFKd, it's actually around 2-4 hours)
-have to play previous free game and buy next episode If you want to understand what's going on
-no tutorial or even key remapping/guide (I played with controller and got seriously stuck because one crucial mechanic was not possible to use with it)
-clunky controls (character changes direction with delay), only crucial in one fight
-weird autosaves (there are only 2 chapters and one of them is rather long and game autosaves after you finished it)
For me it was worth, for you? decide for yourself
I love the Baobabs series, but i have to admit that I enjoyed the first episode more. Don't get me wrong, this episode has everything you love from episode one, but it seems like the developers used too many "cherries" (episode one had many amazing "cherries", but episode two just consists of "cherries", which makes it not as outstanding :/).
Cons:
- there was no introduction in controls, which is usually fine, but I forgot that I could shoot, cuz its kinda long ago that I played the first episode >.<
- the map is shit ;D (like for real, dude where are the details?)
This game continues to be fun because of how random the story is, I guess. We get to learn more about this weird world that this game inhabits.
I liked the art in the game. It's very new and unique. Set pieces are great.
I liked the easy 3d sections.
I liked the fetch quests in this game because it is tied to the story. It feels like solving a mystery.
I liked the music a lot except the main them song with some movie sounds in the song. That one song that is played during the intro can actually be played when playing the game because when you exit houses, the game changes the song. The thing is, is that that one song isn't good to listen to more than once and when it's on loop it sucks. So you're forced to go back into the house and go back outside in hopes that it skips it.
I liked that the translation is much better this time around.
There's way too much of the game telling the player that they are indeed playing a game and this is a game and stuff like that. It breaks emersion. Also, the pop culture references are just not my thing but what are you gonna do...
Going into and out of houses takes a bit too long. There's some kind of delay and it shouldn't happen for a 2d game like this. There should be no loading times for entering a house.
The collisions are atrocious in my opinion. The game still feels like there wasn't much care in that department. I can be under pictures, and over tables, and on top on of a houses wall that's on the bottom screen while in a room, in a house in the open world part where I can see the characters feet behind it walking, being under the bottom part of a lamp post, and etc.
The mansion part with the doors that bring you back to the start if you go the wrong way is not fun. Especially when everything looks the same. The butler says that you can get lost in the rooms but still, it feels like the devs were trying to lengthen the game and that whole section is not easy and I find it to be a waste of time. And tbh, I kind of did the same thing in my game but in my game it was for a purpose that was tied to the story that I created. Anyways, I don't want to spoil the game but this whole part was trash. Like, I would have said that it wasn't very good but what happens after is what made me hate it even more.
I don't like the fishing section where you have to tap the keyboard really fast. It was very hard for me to do.
The shop in the game has more items apparently but I beat the game with only buying one shop item. One could presume that this town will appear in the 3rd game but still, you could have just showed just one item. I thought the game would have been longer because of the other items being in question marks.
I still don't like that at the end it says "to be continue".
There's some kind of minigame in the game that you have to do something to unlock it and I personally don't have time for that. Just unlock it when you talk to that person who tells you in the game or at least let me play it in the game like in the first episode of Boababs. Like, I tried to play it by tapping up on the keyboard 50 times but it doesn't work. Either have the game in the game where I can play it easily or not at all.
Not enough options in the game. There should be a keyboard config menu I guess because the button are still weird feeling to me. Like you're using the "space," "alt," "m"and more buttons to play the game but the menu button for inventory is all the way up at "esc" and it's like why are the controls so damn far apart?
There was one part where I heard a scream and it was so loud.
Overall, I liked the game. I can't really think of anything else that I want to talk about. I guess the game felt short.
Great game, the best sound track ever, loved EP1 and am loving EP2.
I really enjoyed the first game. I might enjoy this one too if some of the bugs get fixed. I dont know how it plays on other devices but on my Mac the controrls are unbearably slugish and it likes to freeze up. It makes the game almost completly unplayable.
