Finished it fully, yet I still don't understand what it's supposed to be. The pictures are disappointing, boring and the whole gameplay is purely based on luck
This is worthless. The gameplay is terrible, not giving you any sense of how the puzzle actually works, the gimmick is pointless, with dead-eyed uncanny valley models that are supposedly meant to be sexy but just come off as creepy and worse than poorly rendered garbage found on deviantart, and overall it's just a pathetic exercise.
Puzzle game with simple premise with easy rules - match straight 4 squares or more to remove them.
However, due to the nature of random colored blocks being placed randomly every time you add one of your own, it relies heavily on luck, with speed and skill being relatively less important. This may or may not be a positive, depending on whether or not you like this unpredictability.
The generic outsourced music is by far the best part of the game.
Despite the female models and their attire, this is not a 18+ game. They are there just for decoration.
Given the game is still playable, even though a number of restarts will be required per round due to the luck based factor, and that the game is fairly cheap, is still a decent buy, though I do recommend getting it on sale.
Verdict: 6/10.
It was good I guess ? If I remember correctly you need to be lucky for certain amount of points. Often you won't get the colours you need to gather enough points so if you're lucky go for it, 64 achievements is always nice addition.
Got this game with a Steam coupon.
Too random to be a challenge, too simple to be interesting, and the girls are just jpegs.
Not a crap game but not recommendable either.
This blond broad in a 90's era mini skirt on it.
I think I saw her in Atlantic City when I was driving by the Days Inn.
Looks like you got that heel fixed!
This is easy, it's a connect four or more.
Go for the more, it's better than the four.
Not that any of this matters anymore.
There isn't really a point to the score.
The game turns out to be a bit of a snore.
Would I take it out and drown it at the Shore?
Naa, that wouldn't be right at all. Buncha Sickos.
I got this with a voucher and honestly I wish I didn't, but the gameplay is alright. The achievements are easy to obtain and are basically free.
Listen. Sure the gameplay is non-engaging, uninspired, and extremely short. BUT. If you want to spend an hour just having achievements handed to you while you reach arbitrary goals, then this isn't the worst game
Anyway 3/10, I got my money's worth
A typical puzzle with a good soundtrack,in the style of the game "Lines",there are 2 modes, one of which when collecting 4+ opens the girl.
This game has got some seriously good music on it. I would gladly pay for it as separate DLC (and I don't usually bother with music DLC). The game itself is a solid puzzle game that retains my interest to want to complete it. There is a glaring typo of some word (destroy = destoy) somewhere in the titles at the very beginning which is surprising as the entire game is well polished. The addition of the girls to unlock is a nice touch and not too gimicky as to trying to sell it. Well after this game is long gone and completed I'll still be using the music. The music files are not in the game folder. Please dev can you offer the music as separate content? I'd gladly pay you for it.
After about 50 minutes of playing ROMBY I have indulged myself with everything this game has to offer so here are my thoughts.
The gameplay isn't good and it could've been, but instead of being a game based on skill it is based entirely on luck and it's because you place a piece anywhere on the board and the game will place a random piece somewhere else on the board which can block off matches you could've had and blocks you in and without any sort of mechanic/feature to for example change a piece's color it creates an infuriating and unfair experience.
It also feels like a cheap achievement hunter sort of game, you can get quite a few achievements in a single round, I've gotten like 7 in one round, to be fair the game is a lot classier compared to other achievement hunters, but it leaves me still feeling unachieved. It does add a feeling of only being here for some quick achievements.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this, maybe if there were more features that balanced the gameplay out a little bit I could get behind giving this a thumbs up, but there isn't and the random gameplay just isn't fun. Maybe try it out for 50 cents, but I would not buy this at full price.
Romby's a match 3 (4) game. A very average one at that. Put coloured tiles down. Whilst doing so another random tile appears onto the board for each one you place. Match 4 or more in a row to remove tiles. Continue until the board's full. If you match fast enough, you get a score multiplier that starts to tick down.
That's it. No special action tiles or moves. No variation in gameplay. No specials that give you control over the random tiles that pop up in game ending spaces to block your progress. There are 10 trading cards/'girls' that are in the game. To unlock them, complete challenges like 'match 5 this round,' 'match a total of 8 yellows this round' or 'match fast enough to get a 4x multiplier.' What you get is pretty much what you get in the screenshots on the main page- the nudity tag is misapplied.
You'll probably kill a couple of hrs with this game, and it isnt a buggy mess. However I cant see anything that'll keep you coming back to it compared to other match 3 games.
All avatars unlocked, full game played, all achievements except the ones that require playing the game perpetually for X number of games. Not impressed.
PROS:
- Clean graphics
- Doesn't crash
- Simple to understand
CONS:
- Gameplay is based almost entirely on random luck
- This game could easily be more interesting if they gave you any mechanic at all that would let you get yourself out of a jam. For instance, allowing you to earn a color change button to change the color of a blocking diamond.
- This game could easily be more interesting if they allowed diagonal connections (ironic in diamond-shaped game)
- The "next piece" preview window is way up in the corner, which is bad on the eyes on a larger monitor like my own.
- I wasn't timing it, but the tutorial (which is both mandatory and unnecessary) may have taken longer than beating the game.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- One of the Steam tags for this game says "Nudity". This game does not appear to have nudity, simply scantily clad women.
Lets ignore the women scattered all over this game and talk about ROMBY. Its a good puzzle game that's based on both skill and luck to connect lines of four or more colors. When you place a diamond on the grid, the game assigns a different diamond on the grid. When the grid fills up, its game over so games never take more than a few minutes.
Strategy is simple, setup two long lines in a row and then combine them. That's risky with so much luck involved of where the game places its random diamond. Once you make a line of four or more there's a score multiplier that appears and starts counting down with each second. So its wise to have a bunch of 3 in a row ready before you line one up and go through a bunch more. However, that's more luck as the next diamond you get is a random color. A good feature would be to save 2 colored blocks to place later.
Now its time to discuss the women and their role in the game... they're trophies for a specific mode. Well for Steam lets call them visible achievements. You play a specific mode where you select 8 silhouettes and achieve things to make them appear. Things such as score 700 points and get a score multiplier of 3. As you achieve things the women will come into focus on the side. Since you select the silhouettes individually, you can't unlock them all on one fantastic run. When you unlock them they appear on the title screen in a lineup. You can play "free mode" that is devoid of eye candy on the side.
Other than that you can visit the settings to change the theme from colored diamonds to lollipop circles or numbers. The numbers and lollipops are also colored, so you might as well save your eyes and just use the colored diamonds rather than having to read numbers in a split second that you need to keep your combo going.
As for score chasers or achievement hunters, there is a global leaderboard and plenty of achievements. It seems like this game has a high rate of people who have earned the achievements.
For a sequel or DLC, I would appreciate more variety in the grids than just the standard 8 x 8 grid for each game. It might also be worth considering a puzzle mode that includes prearranged diamonds on the grid and predetermined color diamonds for you to place you rather than random colors.
Romby is simple, easy, engaging and fun with or without the women on the side. For a dollar, its an easy recommendation.
Low cost puzzle fun....
ROMBY is very simple, create strings of 4 or more same color squares to score points. The only thing that stands in your way is the random placement of blocks from the AI as you go. For every block you place, it places one, so you have to create your scoring lines before the AI gets lucky and blocks your line. This makes points hard to come by, as emphasised by one of the Trophy acheivements for this game is to score 3000 points in a game. There are two modes, Freestyle and Girls. The Freestyle mode lets you play a game with no requirements to meet, just trying to score as much as you can before the Al takes away any remaining moves. The Girls mode lets you collect one of 10 girls if you can meet the scoring requirements during a game, which you can eventually do if you're persisitent. I beat this game (collecting all trophys) in just over 8 hours. As one of Steam's 99 cent specials, it's well worth it. If you're looking for a game that you play while travelling or trying to kill a weekend, ROMBY is your game.
Pros :
Price. At .99 it was well worth it.
Tough but fun, game AI doesn't make it easy, even though you eventually can beat it.
Cons :
No replay ability. There is no higher levels, just the main level.
Could have added more to the Girls round, once you've collected all 10, that's all there is to the game outside of the Freestyle which you get bored with eventually.
Rating : 5
This game is infuriating as well as being addictive. Infuriating in the fact that it is only luck to get past the levels due to having no knowledge of what colour or placement the AI is going to do next and since this is two thirds of the game; the odds are already against you. Addictive due to that one more try syndrome, just hoping you will do it. I got this for something like 90% off so I don't regret it but at full price; there are games which do this type of gameplay far better. Get it in a sale only.
Is this game worth 90 cents? Probably not. But if you like these kinds of games, I'd say buy it on a discount. (It's better than a spoon in your eye.)
What makes the game hard is the fact that you basically take turns against the game: You place a diamond-shaped tile, the game places one randomly(?), you place another one, trying to get 4 matching tiles in a row.
+: It's a nice waste of time for a few hours.
-: What I don't like is the diamond shape of the tiles, it makes my head hurt after an hour or two. (You can reduce the strain on your eyes the the "modern" theme, but only slightly IMAO.)
-: I'm unsure whether the game is entirely RNG based, or just trolls you as hard as it can. It took me ~7 hours to get all but one achievement, and 6 more hours to get the 3000 points in one game for the last achievement.
PS: If you came here looking for nudity, you will be disappointed; you basically see all the "nudity" (women in bikinis) in the screenshots.
I finished the game (my definition of finishing most games is 100%ing the achieves) in 3.5 hours and I kinda wish it was longer.
It's a very nice time passing game, not much thought needs to go into it in order to unlock the different girls. I don't care much about that anyway but I guess it's a nice feature, if you're into it. The girls are quite cute :)
As far as achievements, it's pretty easy to complete and the achieves themselves are pretty. Don't know if there's much replayability to it after you've finished unlocking all the girls and all the achieves though.
I got it with a 90% off coupon so I think it was worth the price I paid for it
enjoy it if you get it :)
A nice time waster, a minimalistic and very simple puzzle with some replayability, especially when you have to waste some minutes :) With plenty of achievements too, maybe somehow repetitive but it's ok for its price!
Cheap, enjoyable little connect game. Not really much to say about it. While pictures are nothing to be write home about, they'll do the job I suppose. I played this between other games and got what I wanted, relaxing little puzzle game.
