Good level of game, realistic players but also good training and squad builder, very interesting and realistic
I Dont Know if you will read this but i would love if the editors would change the layout off selecting your team to similar to football manager. where you can drag names onto your formation it would be a much more emersive and easier game to play without having to mess about with drop down boxes. i love the game as i am a ruby fan and love the macanics but maybe more tactical detail could be put in like offload frequency. overall io like where the game is heading but would live to see needed changes for me to properly enjoy it. i also feel the interface needs to look less like a game from the 90s and needs titles and more adaptive and user freindly buttons and transitions. the subtistuions are hard i feel there should be a rolling button to do your interchanges so that its easier as props will get tired and a button which is on the side off the screen as the game is playing where you can drag and drop players would be much apprisiated. Now i think you guys have done an amazing job on the game as there is nothing like this on the market and you are really trying to push rugby league i can feel your passion through the screen with is the reason i will keep playing .
I'm going to be honest. This game is TERRIBLE. People on here writing reviews saying it's a small developer and to give it a chance, I understand but honestly this game is not what I expected at all. I knew the UI was going to be hard to work with and poorly designed due to other reviews but once you actually start playing - WOW is it bad. So clunky and slow it takes an eternity to switch between interfaces. That's just the UI!
The management is so far from enjoyable it's in a weird middle ground where it isn't simple and it isn't complex. It's complex enough to be annoying but simple enough to take the fun out of it. Signing players is such a massive F-around you can't just click on a team and click through there roster or even look in competition results and sign a junior league's top try scorer, you have to first scout the player using a scout from your staff which requires you clicking through several screens on the UI that's straight out of the 90s.
Besides that, the training and financial side of things are super hard to understand and the game manual covers virtually nothing, you're left to translate the hyrogliphs that are the Ui's buttons and work out what exactly it is you're doing since the manual covers nothing outside of the very basics.
As far as the game running that's the worst part yet, in this management sim game you cannot leave the window/program so while it's simulating hundreds of other teams doing there weekly training/transfers - you literally cannot click out to check emails, browse the web or even change a background song or else the simulation stops until you click back onto the program. The simulation btw takes FOREVER and every 2 weeks you need to completely change or at least re-confirm your teams training schedule so don't expect to fast forward further then a fortnight.
Overall, there's plenty more I could write about what I didn't enjoy about this game but I'm just gonna leave it in saying i've never had buyers remorse worse then this and I can't reccomnd anyone reading this too avoid this game enough it isn't fun, it isn't a quick and easy game, it isn't complex and challenging. I'm literally going to have nightmares about the UI.
Im loving the new set up. I played RLTM2015 and struggled with the interface and navigating around the place. RLTM 2018 has addressed this and made the program a lot easier to navigate. As you advance through time, if you need to update squads, hire new staff, upgrade facilities you get prompts and a link to the correct area to complete these tasks. This makes it so much easier to start and learn how to play. Another great element of this game is its community and the Dev team! Every time I was unsure about a certain part of the game, I simply hopped onto the community page and looked for someone with the same questions as me... The Devs answer a lot of the communities questions making it easy to find your answer and learn more about the game. If you can't find your answer, put up a post and the Devs will generally look after you. Great game, great team, great community!
Pretty addicted to the game now, got it on the off chance of mentioning "team manager" games and seeing this in steam sale and my love for RL.

Game mechanics are very good and with a bit of UI polish could easily be the best rugby league game on the market. I would much rather play this game than RLL4 (especially with the bugs that game has), even though you cannot actually control the players, this game provides a great management simulation.
I've had the game a few days now - not having played any previous versions . There are glitches - but overall it has been an enjoyable experience - where I have been learning and adapting as I go along .
Things like the Individual Training system , and setting up the Academy are still not clear to me - but overall I have enjoyed the game playing and the sight of my players notching up good wins is most satisfying.
Things I would like to see include the ability to 'inspire' the team with 'pre-match , or half time talks : the ability to check out players in other teams without going through the cumbersome 'scout the club' route - and an improvement to the training process to make it clearer to implement would help . In addition - the only messages I ever get from the directors seem to be negative ones - even after gaining promotion their only comments appear to be about shortcomings in the financial situation , or problems with the ground and its upgrading ( which are surely Directorial issues anyhow ) ?
Overall though , having played more complex games like Football Manager a lot - this game is engaging - and promising ... :-)
Nice little improvement on the previous title. Particularly fond of the new 3D in-game engine, looks a lot crisper. With a new season update soon that I'm eagerly anticipating you can't argue with what you get for your money. If you like Rugby League and you like tactical managerial games then what's not to love? :)
Had big hopes, that the game would justify it's high price.
But even though the game plays in the price range of big simulations out there (out of the park, football manager) u simply cannot compare it to them in regards of depth and realism.
I started one play in the lowest league and haven't played a match for my team.
Then i looked at the job market and saw that there was a club in the 2nd highest league who was looking for a new manager, i applied and immdiately got the job.
then i looked on the market again and there was now also the vacancy of the best club in the highest league. i applied and also got the job.
thats all but realistic.
i also wanted to renew a contract of one of my players (he had 200k salary and had already the highest wage in my club next to to other players) but for a renewal he wanted to have 600k a year now.
would have really liked to try the game out more, but poorly there is no demo and you have to take care not to play for too long in order of refund the game in case you dont like it.
if there is ever a sale ~10€ i would maybe consider trying it out.
but atm i cant recommend it.
Poor effort in a good series of games.
Been playing these games since they was a free to download back in like 2009. To say this one has taken a backwards step is an understatment. It still has the basic setup from back in the day but somehow the dev's have managed to make the menu and selections more clunky and the lack of contrasting colours makes the text hard to read sometimes. The inferface itself is quite complicated compared to the previous games, for example simply wanting to look at other clubs squads requires you to scout the club :s (why?). The training of individual players is bizare as there is no confirmation to the setting you have tried to apply... I've been retraining a players position for one whole season but the timer is still stuck at 30 days :s. The 3D gameplay its self is a nice new view but still has the exact same problems of the previous games, ball thrown 50 meters from the scrum, players stuck running in circles, lack of drop outs and in goal play, higher stat players bascially scoring a try everytime the get the ball, making hard work of try's when in the clear and feeling the need to pass it to the next 5 players before scoring a try. The call respond system it tooked away so no way to know instantly what calls the other team has made. These things could have been forgiven on the old 2D system but why upgrade the graphics but not the mechanics itself. Unfortuantly the 2D system on this game is a shadow of the old. Whilst speaking of problems that plagued the old the AI still has that habit of never changing squad numbers so their new star signings start games wearing number 42 jerseys :s . Furthur more the old contract system of trying to sign a player for the next season has basically been destroyed, now you have to wait until january the 1st of your new season before you can consider signing anyplayers for the upcoming season, by which time your team is in bedlum from letting other players leave without knowing who you can bring in. I understand this has been a rather negative review so i will highlight some good points. The 3D game play is nice to watch when you dont look for all the glitches and problems, the array of teams to choose from is always interesting and the ability to update things yourself will always be helpful, not that ive tried my hand at that yet.
Im glad i bought this game on offer at £23.99 as so many other didn't and i would be even more dissapointed with it. Tbh i dont even play it properly anymore even when im bored because it just does not have the same draw of the previous games, it feels like a badly recycled product simply for money making, if i need my RL fix i will simply revert back to the older games at which i can still get enjoyment, unfortuantly i will never get my £23.99 back :(.
I hope for the next series of these games the devs put some serious thought into what they as players would like to see in the game and listen to the community who know's how RL should be.
The UI is awful. The stats and positions for players is terrible, I don't feel like spending all my time having to correct all of this. I don't know why I bought this after wasting so much time with 2015 trying to get some kind of fun out of it.

This game has helped me get into the world of RL. Have enjoyed the game immensely. Easy enough to figure out, and customer service is tops if you run into any problems. Game had some odd bugs when I first started playing but I have not run into any of those issues recently (may have been fixed in updates).
I am giving this game a 5.5 out of 10, it is a pass mark. The upside it is heading in the right direction compared to the previous years installment which was just a heap of @#$%. The devs have put a little more work into this years product, there are still really basic things that I cant belive got through like the lower grade competitions arent named correctly, it must be a pommie SL things. The pages are still a bit clunky and noisy, not set out nicely at all. Hard to navigate around and so much eye clutter makes it worse.
Gameplay is a bit average also, trying to work the ball out from near the try line, gain 10 meters after 5 tackles and kick on the 20 meter line often. Line breaks are a rarity too.
The pommie thing #2 - how do they get such high ratings compared with NRL players??? Hardly any of them are up to week in week out NRL standard, how many would press to get in a State Of Origin series? Sweet FA. Sam Tomkins played in the NRL, he was an average player at best but again high ratings.
Hoping the devs can go check out the FM series and tidy up this game.
Also, why are the teams home grounds capacities / names etc incorrect? Its very basic stuff guys n girls. Get people to research it for you if you havent got time, hell I will do for you if you want.
NRL has lower grades, get the correct names for those comps and inlude it in the next edition. If you need ppl downunder to research NRL stuff and send you the correct info let me know, I am happy to assist.
It is still an arcade game, its not a management sim as such, but its on the improve.
Great game for any Rugby League fan. As a fan of a loswer league club its great that I can manage my team and it has the actual players and not random generic names etc.
Just about the right level of detail vs simplicity, a bit like football manager bak in the good old days when you didnt need to spend six weeks setting everything up before you kicked a ball.
Not too bad. The players are fine. Injuries and red cards can get more annoying than they should, but aren't really hard t owork around.
What always gets me though is the international games. Every single time it comes unstuck on the player selection screen. It can't handle that many players all at once. It stutters and bugs out. The problem usually is you can't select enough players to make the quota.
Difficult to get around, and an obnoxious problem since if you signed up for Int. duties mid season, you cant progress with your regular season until you're done with the other duties.
Otherwise, it's fun. And probably better than I imagined it would be.
I have to excuse with the creators of the game: most of the problems I encountered when I tried it the first time were caused by a strange configuration that my graphical card setted on the game.
So, I was unable to see quite anything and the game... simply doesn't work after the first day of the game!
I was unaware of it, but I tried again and... this doesn't happen anymore!
Strange, but I'm sorry for my previous words.
Now the game is working fine, with a clean graphic compartment and clearly more fast to load.
Now, after more hours of playing, I can say that the game itslef is aboslutely okay: it clearly not reach the "deep" and have the functions of other sim/managment games, but it's the best rugby sim/management games I've found around that is entertaining and that works without strange bugs.
Now, the problem is about the price: it clearly too high for this product.
But, at the end, I appreciate the opportunity to have a sim game about a sport that is not so present in videogame.
At the end, is a clean, funny sim/man game, with maybe not a great variety, but functional.
Giving the actual status of sim games about rugby, I can say this is the best game of his type around.

How this could arrive on Steam remain a mistery...
The game itself is poor, slow to charge, with a terrible graphic compartment and, overall, at least too old by 7-8 years.
Yes, you pay 30$ or 30 € for a game that looks like it was created for windows 2000, and, also in that, not so well created!
This is a great upgrade on the previous title ''Rugby League Team Manager 2015'' in the way of a much better engine which better represents a game of Rugby League, a much better & more slicker interface and a whole new way of dealing with transfers which makes the game a little more tougher than the previous release - something which was needed.
The developers are very polite and committed to the game succeeding, and have quickly sorted out bugs & adjusted some inaccuracies in player stats etc.
Though some bugs exist still in the game, I believe that they will soon be fixed by the RLTM team who are supremely dedicated to the game. To say that Football Manager has been worked on for over 20 years, the RLTM developers are making huge strides in a short amount of time. I hope that all Rugby League fans worldwide support this game because it truly deserves it.
Would reccomend to ANY Rugby League fan who is truly passionate about the greatest game.
As a massive fan of the 2015 version I was eagerly awaiting this, and I was not disapointed. Nearly every facet of game has been improved from the previous version, though still rough around the edges, is a fun experience.
Pros:
- New match engine: This iteration is less arcady and better simulates a realistic match.
- New dynamic progression system: Players now gradually increase until their peak years, then decline after peaking. Players can now change calibre also. Developing juniors is much more organic now and is an important addition.
- Clubs now actively sign players from one another and free agents have been added. This creates a more immersive transfer market and makes exploiting a lot harder.
- Scouting: Having to scout directly for players and staff again makes additions harder, meanign tougher decisions need to be made when allocating funds and staff actions.
- Training is now much more improved also, allowing for more personalisation.
- Brilliant Suport from developer: After playing this game I noticed a bug. Within 12 hours of sending an email I had been responded to and the game had been updated with a fix!
Cons:
- Ui takes a while to get use to, but once used its fine.
- Is somewhat buggy, but as stated earlier, the developer is super responsive to being notified.
This isn't Football Manager or Out of the Park Baseball with massive backing and staff with decades of experience. This is a small project and we should offer as much support as possible so they can continue to improve this series which has so much potential. Also, I noticed other reviews have bemoaned a high number of injuries, if you hire a good doctor and physio injuries become a lot less frequent.
the amount of injuries is a joke, 13 games in to the season i currently have 13 players out injured & can't bring in replacements due to salary cap restrictions. if the amount of injuries was toned down the game would be brilliant but i find myself spending most my time making a complete new 17 to cope with the amount of injuries i have.
Ok, this is my second review of this game so I hope it helps those looking to buy this game. This might be a long one but bear with me.
The first review I did was very negative as there were too many injuries. By the 6th game a third of my team was injured and they were mainly anyone I put in at hooker. I was Workington Town which is a semi-pro team therefore they have very little money. I had 1.5 star facilities and 1 star doctor and physio. The attrition levels of all my players were low and most were rested when I put them in at hooker yet they still got injured playing in the number 9 position or during training. Since I put the negative review one of the developer’s, Roger, messaged to say they were working on a fix for the unrealistic injuries and especially to all being in at hooker. I don’t know whether it has been fixed but the way I got around it was to basally cheat. I used ‘cheat engine’ just to give me enough money to buy a 5 star doctor, physio and upgrade my medical facility to 2 stars. No money was spent on players etc so I could play and enjoy the game as it is meant to be. Because of the better doctor, physio and medical facilities I have really really enjoyed this game. It seems if you choose a club lower than professional level who have no money everyone gets injured and you can’t enjoy it because it’s not realistic and you spend most of the time frustrated because you can’t field a team. However, if you get the physio, doctor and medical facilities upgraded it’s an amazing game! I still get injuries but its more realistic and you can manage the gaps it causes in your team.
Some of the things I really like is that you are an employee of the club. It’s your career and can apply to be the manager of other clubs to continue your career. You can advertise for staff positions so coaches etc apply to you. The negotiation system is amazing with different stages to signing a player. It’s a lot more in-depth than the 2015 game. I find that the biggest improvement has been during the matches. Firstly, the 3D graphics is a lot better than the 2D in 2015 and secondly, I no longer stack my bench with only forwards. On the 2015 counterpart you only really had to worry about your pack. If you had average backs and halves but a great pack you’d win because they build the platform to score from. Also, the backs never really got tired so you’d just have forwards on the bench. However, now the backs suffer from fatigue just like the forwards so you must really plan your bench and substitutions which puts you more in the manager role. It’s not all around the forwards anymore which, in my view, is great. There are other great parts of this game and improvements on the 2015 version but i cant write them all as i'd end up being able to publish a book.
The game is still in the early stages so there are a few bugs that need ironing out such as the injuries when you have a low-level team without money or facilities. Also, another bug that popped up was this, I won League 1 in the English league and got promoted to the Championship (where I’m now getting destroyed which is also realistic). It said I had met the board expectations as it should do. But, it then sent an email to my team saying ‘Executive board’s seasonal Super League expectation not achieved’ and penalised me accordingly. How have I been penalised for the Super League when I’m not even in it yet and have been promoted to the Championship? It’s only a little glitch so nothing to bang on about and doesn’t affect much. The only other issue is that 99 is the highest attrubites rating for a player but when im searching no-contracted players in the Championship or Super League im finding loads of players who ive never heard of with attributes in the 80's or even 98. This is the level of players like Jonathan Thurston, Sam Burgess and Cooper Cronk etc in real life but its seems like a lot of players in the Championship are rated just as amazing. I hope im wrong and have missed something with it though as i dont want to buy Joe Blogs who is rated at 98 to compete with the likes of JT with the same attributes. Even with this though the game is great. It doesnt take anything away from the game and is only a small issue for now.
One question from me for the developers, I’m not in the super league yet but does it have the marquee signing like the real life super league?
Finally, I had to cheat but if Roger and the other developers have managed to fix the injuries as they said they were doing then other people won’t have to cheat like I did just to enjoy the game. Since my fix though I love this game. To Roger and the other developers very well done!! Great game and I definitely recommend it.
