FACELOAD＆SOUNDLOAD
FACELOAD is a function where a player can choose an image they like and use it as a character's icon. Instructions 1) Place your chosen image in the folder 'My Document' > 'Mebius' > 'Elminage Original' > 'FACELOAD' The FACELOAD folder will automatically be created upon upgrade. Supported image file and size 192x192px JPG, BMP, PMG file 2 ) Start the game and select 'FACELOAD' 3 ) Choose a location to upload the image 4 ) The image in the FACELOAD folder will be shown. Select the image to upload. 5 ) The image should be ready. Press 'Z' to finish the process. Begin the game and when you go to the face list in 'adventurer registration' or 'change name' at the Training School, select FACELOAD on the bottom right icon where you can find your face.
SOUNDLOAD
SOUNDLOAD is a function where a player can use a BGM they like in the game. Instructions 1 ) Place your chosen image in the folder 'My Document' > 'Mebius' > 'Elminage Original' > 'SOUNDLOAD' Supported sound files wav. or ogg. 2 ) Start the game and select 'SOUNDLOAD' 3 ) Go to the sound page 4 ) The sound file in the SOUNDLOAD folder will be shown. Select the file to upload. Pressing PAGE DOWN adjusts the volume. Pressing 'F' returns the sound back to its original setting. 5 ) The image should be ready. Press 'Z' to finish the process. There may be parts of the image unable to be reproduced depending on the type/format of the file. Please seek approval beforehand. In the case SOUNDLOAD does not work normally, the steps below can return you to the original setting. 1 ) Confirm whether there is a BIN folder the 'Elminage Original¥SOUNLOAD folder'. 2 ) Rename, or if that fails, delete the SNLD.DAT in the BIN folder.

The original 3D dungeon RPG has returned! Create and raise your characters to defeat the monsters that lurk deep in the labyrinth-like dungeons. Its simple gameplay and sense of freedom makes you feel like you are truly inside a fantasy world. Choose from 16 occupation including the likes of Fighter, Mage and Samurai. With 9 races to choose from, diverse parties can be created set according to gender, age and their personality. In addition, customize the game to your liking with the graphic/sound functions. This game is not for every player, only consider this game is you are a real die hard dungeon crawler fan. The game has limited to no configuration al options "separate setup.exe file in the install folder" going trough the menu's and getting a understanding of the details of the equipment and such requires to get used to. maybe i come back to it if i really want to play a good crawler and i am willing to go trough the hardship of the UX/UI but for now i will pass.
If you are new to Wizardry: Under no circumstance should you start this game without a Mage/Samurai (high level spells are EXTREME quality of life and will let you punch above your weight class) or a Cleric/Lord (status healing without taking up inventory slots, or at all)
A Bishop is quality of life for identifying items in the field so you can drop junk, they DO NOT replace EITHER OF THOSE CLASSES for at least 20 hours
You might be able to manage with a Servant instead of a Priest, but not initially, because status curatives aren't available until you reach certain milestones. Prior that that point, you NEED the Priest's level 3 spells to clear paralysis, and then they can cure all statuses with one cast except for Petrification (Petrification can only be cured by the "full heal" spell, this is not a stated functionality)
For QOL you can grind up a Mage and change them to a Cleric or vice versa for basic coverage in a single slot. You can put those on an Alchemist or Bishop so you get full basic coverage, but a single Cleric offers such an extreme degree of quality of life that if you don't do this and you discover it later, it will feel so bad as you realize how much time you've wasted
The game might be awesome but this is an atrocious port. I keep installing it and wondering why I've only played 15 minutes. Then I remember it's the uncapped menu fps, nonsensical key bindings, alien-designed menu system, etc. Emulate the PSP version instead, seriously.
Elminage Original is one of the best Wizardry-like dungeon crawlers I've played. It's also one I'd recommend for beginners as the difficulty scales slowly and the game offers an intro chapter contained within a relatively tame area.
It still has the trappings of a typical Wizardry game: You create a party of adventurers and send them into the unknown depths of a dungeon. You might lose someone after they're beheaded by a ninja, or even wipe out and need to send a second team to bring back the corpses to the temple. There are traps, pitfalls, ambushes as you enter a room, and so on. But you'll prevail, probably, if you're patient, prepared and pay attention.
Where this game rises above its competitors is not a single thing, but an overall feeling of cohesiveness and quality in its production. The 2D art is gorgeous and the artstyle aged well from its original PSP version. The game plays well with a controller and remembers your cursor choices: You can repeat the last turn with R1 or order everyone to attack with Square/X. One of my favorite options is the ability to rename the entire spell list to your liking; the spell names were pure gibberish to me and I renamed them into something recognizable.
I love that while this game features all the classes from original Wizardry games, Elminage also came up with new classes like the Maid, the Summoner and the Alchemist. Their original mechanics fit well along the existing ones and add a delicious complexity to building your party. A vast roster of playable races with dozens of portraits to pick from give you ultimate control on what your band of ragamuffins will look like.
Give this a try, it's really worth the price!
UPDATE: After 70+ hours, this is the most addictive Wizardry-style DRPG I've played in a long time. If you're into this style of game loop then give it a try. It's become one of if not my favorite in the genre.
Elminage in a nutshell: encounter begins, target the enemy casters, buff AC, and since 3 rows of 4, get mage prepared to nuke. Turn starts, mage gets hit with confusion before her turn, and nukes the whole party including herself. Or the time the samurai got confused before her turn and then beheaded herself.
This game has been amazing so far and I'm (estimating) about 1/4-1/3 of the way through. It is a tough recommend, however, because this is a Wizardry. If you liked Labyrinth of Lost Souls, Class of Heroes, or maybe even Operation Abyss/Babel (minus all the narrative), then this might be perfect for you! Wizardry (and Elminage) are full of downright unfair RNG bullshit that will teach you the importance of save scumming. Every few steps in the dungeon is progress, though, and mercifully this game allows you to save mid-dungeon freely. The port is terrible, but functional once you get everything set up.
Compared to Gothic (played on GOG), I am enjoying Original more because of the open-ended design -- once you clear the trial dungeon you unlock the rest of them, unlike in Gothic where dungeons are unlocked as you complete quests. Otherwise I'd say they're very similar, except Original gives you a permanent dungeon map where in Gothic you have to use spells, items to view maps.
If you're playing on Proton, and notice the Config Tool is broken, it's not because you're playing on Proton. It's because the Config Tool is broken. I tried it on a Windows 11 VM and it still did not work. What I ended up doing was enabling Steam Input, mapping the controller to the WASD Keyboard and Mouse preset, then customizing the buttons to the pre-set keys in Elminage.
Elminage Original is great so far. It's got controller support, the visuals look nice (nostalgic old 3d mazes, pixelated illustrations for characters, monsters and items, it's got all the classic Wizardry classes plus a few more, it's got a bunch of races and a ton of portrait options and the ability to load images. It's got a variety of dungeon tilesets and a world map and a story that threads things together enough for it to matter. It's got some QoL features that most of these games have (but that some of these games lack) like remembering your previous turn's action selection, or letting you hit one button to all-out-attack, or letting you speed up animations/text. It's very comfortable to grind this game and the vibes are good.
