This is a great space station generator. I picked it up ages ago and didn't really dive into it until recently. There is a Generate mode and an Edit mode, so you can generate a station and then go to edit it to your tastes or start from scratch and make something yourself. It is possible to enable show room names, grid overlays, and saving your generated stations (in the Edit screen) and exporting to PNG.
It would of been nice if there were lifts and stair rooms, along with curved U shaped corridors.
The app itself has different modes of UI and going into more options and advanced definitely opens things up. For example you wont see a save option in the Edit mode, unless you click on More Options.
I can see several possible uses for this software, be that a tabletop rpg campaign, or some form of art that requires a space station map, e.g. novels.
The flexibility and the number of options is shocking. The developer must have spent a LOT of hours making this. Well done!
It does what it does well, but what it does is extremely limited. The grid it generates doesnt have enough variability (nor the assets enough resolution) to generate battlemaps, there are a finite amount of station components, and there arent many tools.
However if you need a subway map of a space station, and you dont need custom components this tool can be very helpful.
This program is pretty bare-bones, but it's also a pretty incredible program and it fits the EXACT niche that I really needed. I hope that work on this program continues, because if it does, and if it stretches into fantasy and modern with more tiles and more tile sets, I think that this is going to be a staple in a DM or Worldbuilder's toolkit.
Keep working on this; I think this is a super important program.
Old review still applies to some extent. It has since gone free but that kind of feels like a slap in the face. Over a year later and nothing has been done with the program. You can maybe get a handful of stations out of this before it VERY quickly feels repetitive visually. There's not much difference tween rooms. All you are getting is, oh this station has more hallways and different amounts of the same exact room.
You can't mix and match room styles still. When you save a station as Alien lets say and reload it? It goes back to the default. Granted its two clicks to fix but that shows the level of not caring about the product. You can't add your own styles, there's no workshop support. No elevators for multi floor designs.
Basically if you use this in a table top session online you will find yourself overlaying these maps very quickly with other assesets since the quality of the rooms and the variations leave much to be desired.
Old review from may 2021:
So it's a bit simple at what it gives and for $10 it feels like that price tag is more of "I'm getting tired of using the same stations for roll20 screw it." However it feels like it should be in the $5 range as you can't mix and match styles, there's no workshop support for users to change tile appearance and share. So eventually you'll run into the same feeling of "My players keep encountering the same station with just different paths.
However the alternative is a much more limited website that does something similar and charges for a subscription to do more so.. Eh? Map building tools for table top games honestly feels like field that could do with more competition and features.
So yeah I do recommend it but I really wish there was more to it and the possibility for community mods.
Color me genuinely surprised! I had never heard of this tool until just randomly coming across it. It didn't take me long to get a good idea of what it can do and I suspect I will be using it aplenty going forward.
This is a very interesting piece of software to play around in. Designed to create space station designs for RPG games, it can also be used for anywhere you need inspiration for a space environment. I've personally used an earlier build to write a short story set on / around a space station.
There are a lot of options, with the basic layout great for generating a lot of stations for inspiration, standard for if you already know roughly what you want, and advanced for people who want to put in the time to get precisely the kind of station they're after. You can even tell the app what the purpose of the station will be (Engineering, Farm, Navy, and about a dozen others) so it knows what kind of rooms it should be generating for you.
The additional tilesets (Dark Alien is my personal favourite, but the "lettered" rooms are incredibly handy) are a nice touch, and there's also options for what kind of grid you want and even an interactive fog of war that would be amazing for DMs running a campaign.
So I guess it does basically everything you could want from something that generates space stations for you.
Ok,this really impressed me. I mean I had read about what the app does, but I didn't expect it to be so thorough, and so darn pretty! The music is calm and soothing. Basically I could easily get so lost in messing about creating a station that I'd miss game night.
If you are a pen and paper fan, this tool will take so much hassle out of your prep allowing you to spendmore time working on your story. Hopefully the dev is applying his same magic touch to fantasy rpg as well? Yes? Please? *crosses fingers*
