Brought this game a recently and just loaded it up and spent almost 3hrs on it, was excited to play it at first, but the first mission is where I learnt that the supply at your main base being the starting base in first mission as allies so people know which one I talking about, well was having an okay time, until I learnt that the base supply RUNS OUT, yes RUNS OUT then boom game over especially as AI is cheating it feels like, I can do hard games no issues but can't do with a game that you run out of supply at main base when the game is based around that said supply, so you have a limited amount of turns more if you literally don't move your vehicles as moving them uses fuel which lasts barely a few moves if that before needing to refeul.
WORST OF ALL, after learning you run out of supply at your main base, I researched to see if anyone else had the issue and THIS IS A MOBILE GAME do NOT if you are a PC gamer support these money grabbing devs especially as other reviews are reporting this game is free on mobiles, You will know straight away something isnt right as the main resource is based on gold, this game for mobile version at least is driven to have consumers buy gold with real money so yes I AM AN IDIOT for buying this money grab CRAP game without a detailed analysis of reviewing all the reviews, don't worry wont be making that mistake again and will be reviewing all reviews and not just the good reviews, how anyone can review this game as good with a positive outcome is BEYOND ME
A special and old but fascinating two-dimensional game
But I have seen other versions before, but they are no longer available. The previous versions were also special and worth buying.

Firstly, the units dont even have 2 facing directions, like atleast the enemy should be facing the different direction to give an illusion. But they are always with their back towards me.

The music is a slightly Modified version of the Darksiders Menu theme and that of Star Wars the old republic.
Even my girlfriend pointed it out. The unit sounds are minimal, there is no unit response sounds and the few seconds SWTOR theme just keeps looping.

It has a basic RTS narrative with go there, fight this, fight that, save that, nothing bad, but nothing worth mentioning either.

The thing is, that the maps would be built pretty well, and would look okey, but the enemy constantly being with their back towards you breaks any immersion for me.

There is a large pool of units on both sides, even if they are mirrors of eachother, this one is a solid positive for any strategy game.

They are always with their backs towards you, they always outnumber you 10 to 1, they somehow spawn out of nowhere near your units, thats not how you add difficulty, thats how you ruin it.

You don'r really hear anyone saying a game is too long, but having to constantly retry a level due to a minor mistake adds unwanted lenght to the game.

Your Resources are extremly limited, you have to keep up Supply trucks, your Tanks/Cars run out of fuel every 2 turns, I understand it tries to be a realistic desert simulation. It could be fun, but there being so many enemies, resources being so scarce and your units getting focused and killed off one by one untill you have nothing left kills all the fun, its like constantly fighting against a Cheatin Insane AI. If you win its due to rushing the objective in a suicide mission.

What I did not mention above, is that the game sometimes decides to be inpresponsive and not let you do anything untill you restart the level, this happened on the 6th Allied level multiple times at different stages after random enemies started spawning next to my units right before I was winning. I sadly couldnt bare myself to finish the game due to it being such a struggle and no reward. The difficulty is unfair and makes you struggle for everything, the enemy is always slowly mowing your units down if you dont rush the objectives. I really tried to like it, I spend 7 hours forcing myself to it, but it has way too many problems and barely any redeeming Qualities.
For the 0.5$ that I've paid for it, 1943 Deadly Desert is actually quite a solid turn-based tactical wargame, theming Allies-Axis struggle in North Africa.
Sure, the visuals are static, making it look like something from the '90s, like KOEI games Operation Europe: Path to Victory or P.T.O.
However, the gameplay process is actually closer to the Men of War series. About the same AI depth of engagement, the maps, and mission goals principles... yeah, but flattened into 2 dimensions, lacking visual effects and some of the more complex game mechanics.
Does it make this game bad? I guess not. On the other hand, now you can take Company of Heroes 2 for free, so... I doubt that many wargames connoisseurs will form the lines to order this little game. Even with the current 85% discount. I'm just saying that 1943 Deadly Desert is not a bad pick overall, and 'mixed' ratings in the store are mostly irrelevant.
My personal mark would be 6.7/10. Surely not a sleep-taker, but a decent game time overall. Dunno about multi-player and MP achievements, though. I wouldn't recommend 1943 Deadly Desert for easy achievement hunting.

horrible game not worth the 5 dollars you will be asking for a refund at 5 hours the multiplayer does not exicest the campain is really hard you alawys get sneak attacked when you think your gonna win. overall the game is not worth your money or time
The game doesnt even start
got it on sale for about 2 bucks , after 27 hours play I can say it is a okay game to kill some time with , almost a Tablet game or was made for PC . crisp graphics not lot of PC planing like tanks turn to fire they just fire supply plays big part so use it accordingly as was Historical . most of the mixed reviews are for asking for games in price range of 30.00 and up . not 10 and under .
play is not easy as far as winning need think about what kills what once more supply is key to winning
I recommend it on sale highly 2 bucks and have just under 30 hours . even at full price is worth it if have big budget for games get it on sale keep in mind it is not a big company game and will have some fun with it
A very poor effort from every angle.
And 'angles' is very appropriate here, because all of the models are only seen from one angle! I'm not asking for triple-A graphics, but as this is hexes, you should have models for each unit from all six angles, it looks really silly when the enemy puts of sandbags in the other side of him, then shoots me out of the back of his head.
The difficulty seems to be cranked up pretty high as well. I can understand the use of supplies, but when you need to refuel every vehicle every three turns, it is tough, and I ran out of all supplies well before the end, that in my own base plus the two enemy bases I captures. All dry.
If there is a way to get info on my units in the field, I can't imagine what is is. I can see how much fuel and ammo I have left, sort of, and how far they can move, but that is it. Nothing about armor, firepower, etc.
It isn't horrible having to use keys to move the map, but almost every game has the option to move the map with the mouse, that would have been nice.
All in all, it feels pretty sub-par. Would not recommend at any price, not even free.
good game but i wish they would fix some of the bugs on there other game on mobile ,pacific front, where on the campaign, code name "leviathan", where you can't complete the extra objectives. other that that this series of games deserves 5 stars
NOT SO EZ
.... yeesh. I'm like 5 minutes into this game and it's already clear that there are not great problems with the graphics. Your army is facing left, their army is facing right - you shoot at each other.. facing the wrong direction. I'm obviously not a game dev, but I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to just flip the models or mock up a couple different sprites and have them face the enemy they're shooting at. It's just so hard to look at. Obviously I'm not very far into the game right now, so I will update this after I've given it more of a fair shake, but it just painful so far, especially for the price.
Edit:// It's now been like 3 years, and I still haven't found it in me to give it another try. It's just gross.
a great little game i cant stop playing it
this is a very good turned based strategy game that will keep you occupied for many hours. it looks great on pc and the music is awesome, very nicely binded with the story.
Small little indie game, normally I would not really bother with it but theatre of war in North Africa is my favourite and games don't really take us there so I thought why not and bought it :)
It's actually mobile game but controls are nice and there are no problems. There are 2 things I really dislike about it, if you zoom then graphic that you can see on screenshots (really nice i must say) is pixelated and not so much fun to look at any more. So you have to play with camera as high as possible to enjoy a view. Another thing is that every unit face only 1 way, so you always see one side facing wrong way and shooting there. A bit immersion killer and I think with a bit of work it could actually be fixed.
Now to the good stuff, pretty graphic style, art works in menu and loading screens are really great. For an arcade mobile game it's actually challenging game with interesting mechanics, you have to manage your supply (fuel and ammo) and there is a lot of other stuff you can do, build sandbags to get defence bonus, use camouflage, put foxhole with MG, build mines, wire and tank traps. Lots of cool things. You have also 2 campaigns, one for Germany and one for USA.
Also, just my opinion but it would be really great to have some real photos and info about stuff that's going on. But I think it's just game based on North Africa campaign and not really following any historical events. Still, it's a nice game!
It's really cheap and reminds me of "unity of command". So I guess if you like this kind of games and North Africa theatre then you can give it a try.
