This game marks a big shift in the series. Whereas platforming was the main focus of the first two entries, in Darksiders 3 the focus is shifted to combat. While there is very obviously a lot of "inspiration" taken from the dark souls series, I do appreciate not having to deal with so much platforming.
Platforming in Darksiders always felt like you were glued to the wall, which did not make for fun gameplay whatsoever in my opinion. Given this, in addition to improvements to the gear system and a relatively good stories I personally think Darksiders 3 is the best game in the series so far. I hope that Darksiders 4, which was announced recently, will mostly build on this game, and not the first two.
Played 1st and 2nd
great series if you follow along the story
game is trash and doesn't want to load past loading screen can't even refund it
This game is just bad.
I've finished it 2.5 times.
It starts with simpler things like getting your hollow skin turned off after any Lust cutscene or the second part of Gluttony fight being boring and pretty much not working, plus you don’t even need one of the hollows to finish the game.
It gets worse with mc always blubbering about all the changes she is going through while not changing. Devs know about “show don't tell” rule right? Or at least don’t talk about changes and let’s pretend there were not supposed to be any. Fury starts as an ignorant brat blindly trusting the authority figure and yearning for any approval and ends as a still ignorant brat who hates the very same authority figure because “they bad”. It would be ok by itself, but this game actually acts as if Fury had figured out something very important and worldchanging.
And as you get closer to the end things only get worse. The entirety of Apocalypse and human extinction motivated by “they hate you cause they ain’t you” is stupid. Plot twists are stupid, out of nowhere and I literally hate them. Charred council sacred domain is now a free for all open zone, why not. Envy and amulet thing just wow. And “For the horsemen!” part killed me.
We spent the whole game on Earth and what did we learn about it? A couple of times that you get to visit the human realm in Darksiders 2 do a much better job of exploring struggles of both angels and humans stuck in that world than the entirety of this stupid game.
This fucking scene
⁃ Hey Vulgrim, you tricked me into eradicating an entire species, I am so mad I will kill you for this
⁃ Nah, how about you get this cool armor set and we are even?
⁃ Ok, thx, bye
I know how abyssal sets are legendary and all, it does not change a thing
Add a series of stupid nodes to predecessor games to get some social credit.
Remember how War and Black Hummer were mates and you got to witness their relationship start and develop in Darksiders 1? Well actually it was Fury who asked the maker to help her brother.
Remember how other riders could use serpent holes? Well it was Fury who earned this privilege for all of them.
Remember Kargon and his crucible? Well look how Fury makes friends with his more successful brother Targon.
Remember bfa achievements that you would only unlock for getting all the other achievements? Well look we too have bfa, but just go and collect some artefacts to get it, no need to strain yourself.
Remember those cool games? Well this game is cool too, right?
Honestly, with all this “angry mc gets stuck on earth working for council we should not trust and has to go kill a number of bosses” storyline, it's just a bad remake of Darksiders 1. Go play that game. And if you want some cool dungeon exploration still within the universe go play Darksiders 2.
this game received free hate from the game community. its a good game, a blend between hack'n slash and soulslike, the graphics and landscape are gorgeous, the story is ok not the strongest trait. i would recommend this game easily!
good

definatly enjoying playing it now. places are good with different hidden boss, and also game is full of puzzle and good adventure. 100% recommand it
angry lady angry whip and blue horse kinda fun
bad game its frezzed all time
Absolutely adore this series. Finished it this time on a fresh save on Apocalyptic difficulty and finished the DLC righ as it became fully available.
(+) Loved the character development of Fury
(+) Combat is interesting (even though it relies heavily on perfect dodge to deal considerable amount of damage on Apocalyptic)
(+) Character progression is great!
(+) Lots of collectibles that reward exploration
(+) I enjoy the edgy story for what it is worth
(0) This OST is ok. (Darksiders 2 has a better OST)
(0) Some bosses are really nice while others are a bore (looking at you, wrath)
(-) Hate the traversal where you have to swing on her whip during some parts
loved it really fun game and also I get to toggle off some of the foliage. my pc cant handle ultra but it is a fun and yet difficult game
in general the overall opinon of this game is its decent but for me honestly its got some major flaws
the good.
1. its combat is pretty decent and i have no issues with that bit
2. story telling was decent buyt nothing to write home about
3. the fights can be quite challenging on all levels
the bad.
1.it does not feel like a darksiders game at all with the only thing that can connect it to the first game is just the city background.
2. im pretty sure the map of DS3 is actually smaller then DS1 and DS1 didn't really have a big map to begin with. DS2 the akers planet map and deadlands map was both alot bigger then both DS1 and 3
3. there was no open world ability it was simply go her follow this track do this go back move to the next thing.
4. the biggest killer for me no horse to play with. without a horse how can fury call herself a horseman i mean yeah you got to see rampage for the whole of 2 minutes total in cutscenes but thats about it which defeats the essence of the darksider franchise
As someone who played all the previous games, I love the story and how this one also answered some questions from the previous ones. I'm waiting for the time all the horsemen finally come together
In terms of gameplay I'd say it's quite fun and you can choose the difficulty for the combat but I'd recommend choosing "Challenging" or higher if you've played souls-like games since "Balanced" or lower is a bit too easy, the enemies doesn't hit hard :/
I'm on NG+ on Apocalyptic difficulty and still enjoying it
Honestly, while not the BIGGEST game, with HUGE zones, this is quite a good game. Story wise, it's a nice character development of Fury overcoming trials, and learning. The fights are nicely done, and they've changed how some of the combat is, making it far more accessible to Normies, and it's not nearly as hard as DS1 and DS2, but it's just as good!
You can 100% the game in under 50 hours, but it's challenges can get your blood pumping.
This isn't DOOM by any means, but killing demons feels OH SO GOOD still.
This also isn't a SOULs styled difficult game, but has it's moments. I was GLAD to buy this game full price on original release, and playing it to completion, and I'll be revisiting it again and again in the future.
I don't usually leave a review, but since this game has quite a number of problems, they need to be announced.
1) No map interactions - The fact that there is no map can be somewhat disorienting, If you want to look for a particular area, you'll have to memorize it. An overview of the map would've helped to avoid that inconvenience.
2) Inconvenient shop interactions - Buying or selling items can be a hassle when you want to purchase more than one item. If there was interaction regarding how many you want to buy or sell at once, it would've saved the players some trouble from buying the items one by one, which is a bit of waste of time.
3) No manual saving and deleting save files - This one in particular was a huge letdown for me.
Normally, I would've preferred that finding certain characters (or optional bosses) should be visible in the "compass", but I can understand if they are not meant to be found that easily. I have figured out too late by the time I passed "the point of no return". This is why there are players who would like to save manually before going on, so that they can always go back from checkpoint. But because this game does not have such function and always auto-saves wherever you are, you can't undo your mistakes and even have to start over again in order to get what you're trying to achieve. That in particular was a huge demotivation for me even to replay the whole game again.
Honestly, as much as I want to enjoy this game, the overall interaction of the game design could have been better, and the difficulty setting is not exactly up to my personal preferences.
Should they decide to make another game in the future, I sincerely hope they will improve the game design especially in interactions.
6/10
Amazing Hack and Slash game
Phenomenal spin on the series. Still waiting for Darksiders IV.
If your looking for a challenge then playing this game on the hardest difficulty is recommended. If you hate your life then do it on your first playthrough of the game :D
What a series! Loved how different each game felt in its combat, especially Darksiders 3. As someone who has played the previous games, here are my 2 cents:
The good stuff:
- The combat is fluid and good. The whip is the best weapon by far IMO.
- Each hollow form having its own abilities makes exploring areas engaging. Their use felt limited however, would've loved some platforming challenges.
- The story: pretty good. Felt dull in the start but kept picking up. Fury's character development was not something I was expecting .
The neutral:
- Enemy variety was way better than in previous games, but still needs improvement.
- I played on apocalyptic, and the early and end game felt very different; gets easier over time, this was weird. Early game was filled with mob density and bosses scaled too high. Later game had crazy mob damage with relatively balanced boss fights.
The bad:
- The weapon upgrade system only hampered my enjoyment of the game. Upgrading each individual weapon is painful and annoying since they are never viable unless upgraded, which is costly.
- Later areas felt very drawn out with a lot of enemy repetition
The ugly:
- Performance is a mess. Constant stutters all the way even during combat.
- Ironically, the "balance" is a mess, at least on higher difficulties like apocalyptic. For example:
- in boss fight Wrath, the boss health and damage scaling is crazy because first phase is pure RNG based on whether he does the ground pound.
- Mobs doing equal or even more damage than bosses is not something that keeps exploration engaging. Not sure what thought was given to it.
4/10 WTF IS THIS
just play darksiders 1
I played through 1, 2, and the Genesis one and this is probably the least fun of them all. I would recommend playing it to get closure on the four horsemen saga. It is fun, don't get me wrong, it is just that the game mechanic that the play style centers on is dodging. When I am playing I feel like it is very punishing if I do not dodge every single attack coming at me. I am 45 and my reflexes are not what they used to be. Anyway, pick it up when it is on sale for under $5 and have fun with it.
7/10
love these games they hit that scratch
Budget Zelda: Ocarina of Time + God of War
Broken mess of a game. Amazing how the game still crashes every few minutes after all these years.
good
Compared to previous games, this one falls short.
The story is weak. It’s not terrible, but it’s far from being rich or engaging, and it fails to keep your attention.
The gameplay is vastly different from earlier entries. Personally, I didn’t enjoy the new approach. It feels empty, generic, and soulless. There’s little innovation, and the few unique aspects it does have fail to excite.
The environment has moments of visual beauty and solid design, but there are also sections that feel uninspired. Overall, the graphical quality is just okay—not stunning, but acceptable.
One positive note is the protagonist. I liked her and how she was portrayed.
Overall, this is an average game. The story doesn’t captivate, and the gameplay doesn’t stand out. Compared to its predecessor, Darksiders II, this is a step back in several key areas. That said, it might still be worth trying for fans who want something different from previous games and are curious to play as the new protagonist.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
Actual fucking tech demo. I should be paid for playing this, not the other damn way around
Might be my favorite of the series so far. Pretty good.
Nữ Chính Cool Ngầu Với Roi Sắt Càn Quét 7 Tội Lỗi
great game. another good entry in the Darksiders series. i wish it would be much closer to Darksiders 1 and 2 in terms of gameplay and combat, but i don't actually dislike the change. hope we'll see more Darksiders games in the future!
Getting swarmed and interrupted mid combo while the mobs can block and having everything respawn when you die is not a difficulty it just shit game design and ruins the whole experience
Fun, all the game revolves around learning to dodge and punish. Even on apocalyptic diff it is an easy game if you learn it. Amazing as all the other 2 games
game was good but the darksoul element is not for me even for classic experience
Let's hope the teaser that THQ recently released was for DS4.
"The Scar" zone and the Gluttony fight are the absolute worst parts of this entire game. I genuinely do not know what they were smoking when working on that, but it is really bad. There's also a crazy amount of technical issues with the game - a few random crashes or freezing on loading a new area, random frame drops even on a last gen PC. A few of the normal enemies are also harder than some bosses. The combat camera when locked on to an enemy isn't ideal and the story dialogues are mostly bland and unmemorable.
THAT BEING SAID, I still had a good time. Getting used to the combat took a little while but after that it went smoothly. The boss fights (not you, Gluttony) were honestly the best parts, the VAs did a great job, the visuals hold up very well, the combat itself is fun once you get used to it and the soundtrack seriously surprised me with how good it is.
Pretty bad and buggy
Once you drop the game its hard to get back into it, or play from the beginning... It's not quite as good as DS2 ngl, but still fun. If you are looking for a hack and slash with some difficulty than yea its a decant game but not out of this world. The puzzles aren't that wow, I can't think fondly of a single boss I fought but maybe I just didn't get that far? I know I have 35 hours but a lot of it is afk time, regardless the game is really repetitive as all other hack and slashes. 6-7/10
Darksiders III Review: A Dark and Engaging Action-Adventure
Darksiders III marks the return of the iconic franchise, continuing its tradition of fast-paced action, intricate puzzles, and a deeply immersive world. Developed by Gunfire Games and published by THQ Nordic, the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse battle against forces of chaos. In this installment, players take control of Fury, the most unpredictable of the Horsemen, as she embarks on a mission to capture the Seven Deadly Sins and restore balance.
Story & World-Building:
The narrative of Darksiders III is engaging, offering a fresh perspective on the apocalyptic setting by focusing on Fury’s character development. Unlike her brothers, War and Death, Fury’s journey is one of self-discovery and redemption. The game's story ties into the broader Darksiders universe, but it stands strong on its own with plenty of lore for newcomers and veterans alike. The world is dark, filled with broken landscapes, desolate ruins, and twisted creatures, giving players a sense of isolation and danger at every turn. The art direction is fantastic, featuring a gothic atmosphere that makes exploration both thrilling and eerie.
Gameplay:
Gameplay in Darksiders III has shifted towards a more Souls-like experience compared to its predecessors. Fury’s abilities evolve over time, giving players the chance to tailor their playstyle through a mix of magic, swordplay, and elemental abilities. The combat system is fluid and strategic, requiring precise timing and careful management of stamina. Enemies are varied, challenging, and intelligent, requiring players to adapt to different combat scenarios. The bosses are a particular highlight, each offering a unique challenge and a satisfying battle.
The game’s exploration is also a standout feature. The interconnected world encourages players to backtrack and discover new secrets, making each area feel alive and rewarding. The environmental puzzles keep the gameplay engaging and prevent it from becoming monotonous.
Graphics & Performance:
The visual design of Darksiders III is stunning, with detailed character models, atmospheric lighting, and beautifully rendered environments. While it doesn't push graphical boundaries to the level of other AAA titles, the art style ensures it looks timeless and captures the dark fantasy feel perfectly. Performance is generally solid, with only minor issues such as occasional frame drops in particularly intense moments.
Sound & Music:
The soundtrack in Darksiders III is haunting and intense, complementing the dark atmosphere of the game. The music swells during major battles, creating a sense of urgency, while the ambient sounds during exploration draw players deeper into the world. The voice acting, especially for Fury, is solid, bringing depth to her character and making her journey more immersive.
Challenges & Progression:
One of the major draws of Darksiders III is its difficulty. The game doesn’t shy away from punishing players, especially in the latter half. The combat system requires skill, patience, and mastery of each weapon and ability. The progression system, involving the upgrading of Fury’s powers, allows for customization but also demands careful decision-making. Players will find themselves getting better as they unlock new abilities and face tougher foes, creating a rewarding sense of growth.
Conclusion:
Darksiders III delivers a compelling, if challenging, action-adventure experience. While it may be a departure from the more hack-and-slash style of the previous titles, it’s a fantastic game in its own right. The combat, world-building, and story are top-notch, and the game’s difficulty will appeal to fans of the Soulsborne genre. For those who love a dark and atmospheric adventure filled with puzzles, boss battles, and character-driven narratives, Darksiders III is a must-play.
Rating: 8.5/10
I'll still recommend to play it at least once if you are really fan of the franchise.
I really don't like the checkpoint system and the sudden shift into souls like mechanics. Some of the mechanics and puzzles are counter intuitive.
I still like the story and the combat grew on me. Still, I did not enjoy it like the previous games. This is probably my least favorite game of the 3.
everything works differently then in previous titles, her jumps are pathetic and useless i could go on ... it does not feel like Darksiders at all. oh and the new combat system says it is not the usual "hack and slash" :D it is worse - you do not get to choose your moves, you repeat 4 same ones over and over :D :D :D returning this one and not going to buy the 4 if it ever comes if you want to know the story there are videos of the whole thing. i was not going to buy it originaly so i watched it, then i wanted to replay all 1 and 2 so i said to myself just try it bad call!! if you still want to buy it remember the 3 hour line to return (if it did not change)
8/10
Great series. If you're a fan of LoZ and Metroid style games with a lot of backtracking and cool abilities, this will be right up your alley.
No target lock on so playing with controller is nightmare. You have to hold down one stick while moving it around all the time... Makes for an hell of an anoying game to play.
Straight out downgrade in every aspect compared to Darksiders 2 (simplistic equipment and levelling system, less interesting environment and characters, clunky camera)
Great game! One game stopping bug towards the last third! Will need to move a stone and restart the game to progress.
Played multiple times on GOG, decided to add it in Steam library (that's why time and achievements are so weird).
All in all, a great addition to the Darksiders collection. A must have if you are a fan of the series. Fury, while not being a big brute like War, is faster and more agile, so don't expect flat destruction like in the first game. Yet, Fury can do her own thing.
Game trully opens up once you get a few abilities.
Key difference vs other games is heavy reliance on dodge instead of block (although, Death in Ds2 was practically the same). If you want, you can build Fury into brute force machine, smacking everything around her, or super fast. The game gives all options.
Visuals are pretty nice, it's UE4, so nothing more to add. Probably, the only thing to mention, is that soundtrack is weaker. It's not a God tier Ds2, but does it's job.
