About the Game
In this game, you control ex-General Xzus as he breaks free of the hellish Purgatory, dark ghouls and skeletons in tow, in order to exact revenge on those who have wronged him in life. He also wishes to find and protect his daughter Lucile. You use Purgatory as your base, where you can improve stats, complete challenges and hire new creatures to your cause, ready for the challenge that lies ahead in the land of the living. This takes the form of a map, with each point providing a new journal entry and battle challenge. Many of these battles include hidden surprises such as ambushes and treasure chests, in order to add additional levels of enjoyment to the title.
Reviews of the original Purgatory on Steam:
[NOT] "Love this game! I just want to play it all day. Awesome music and sounds too."Bechstein "Another tactical RPG like Fire Emblem or Overfall; this time in a grungy, impressionist pixel art aesthetic that pits your undead army against another undead army. Plenty of reading, story and customization. The troops' skill trees are quite easy to follow, and it's all alright now."
Youtube - Tkillaah "Think strategic, Make smart moves so you can build a big army, it got a lot of levels, This is def not a bad game, and if you like monsters then you shouldn't doubt getting this even without discount"
Our Story:
The Purgatory series is a labour of love. I've always been a fan of fantasy strategy games like Age of Wonders and HoMM (and more recently Fire Emblem). I love to write for the interactive medium that is video games, and Xzus' story (some of you may recognise from my Data Hacker RPG series) is one that I really wanted to expand upon.I really hope you like what we're doing here. From my own time testing and tweaking the game, I think it's shaping up to be something really awesome.

I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
Vaporware. Devs released a concept version of a game with very little refinement or playability and are nowhere to be seen for years.
6/10
Every combat is a numbers game in a way that disincentivizes complex strategy. You have ranged units and melee units and the basic strategy boils down to 1. keep your tanks in the front 2. keep your hard hitters in the middle 3. keep your ranged units in the back. The only 'variation' is the occasional obstacle in the map, which only varies combat by blocking out some squares from movement.
More importantly, this game is buggy. If you target the last two enemies in a combat within the same turn, killing them both, the rewards for that mission will be doubled. This always happen. If you get unlucky, an enemy will spawn in a square blocked out by an on-map obstacle, meaning you can't target that enemy. That enemy, however, CAN target you. Other similar bugs make combat a game of trying to navigate around bugs than trying to put into work any creative strategy.
Bored. Late review. I want to bury this down so deep that I want to forget about this
Another kinda terrible game.
I enjoyed Purgatory and hoped for the same experience from P2. Unfortunately P2 isn't the same animal. The game has potential but was released unfinished.
This might have been interesting... like 25 years ago.
Purgatory II is yet another kinda terrible game in the simplified King's Bounty knockoff genre (see: Braveland, Beasts Battle, Purgatory) that makes me wish I had died and gone to Hell rather than be stuck playing it. Even in a genre generally lacking in entertaining games, it stands out as being particularly tedious and badly-assembled. Compared to the previous game, it's a bit better put together, but instead it feels unfinished, with what seems like all of the potential upgrades and the best grinding stage available from basically the very start of the game, and storyline missions offering no rewards at all.
I finished the game - or at least I think I did, I defeated what appeared to be the final boss and was told my soul was now at peace, but the game just continued normally - and towards the end it got horribly buggy. Even with the one good bug: a double gains from grinding bug (present since at least September of last year) allowing me to gain 375 SP per run of the hardest grind mission, it was still just a bunch of sitting there mashing spiders while I got enough for a huge army. Meanwhile, the other bugs started piling up: enemies spawning inside terrain where they were invulnerable, crashes when you hit End Turn too fast after attacking, crashes when you block the front line up with skeletons, and probably some inexplicable crashes too. Towards the end, I was often needing to reset two or three times to win any given battle, due to the game crashing.
The balance was also wacky - many types of unit were essentially useless, and towards the end you are confronted with tons of slow enemies who massively resist physical(?) damage, meaning you need many Death Moguls or Djinni to defeat them in any reasonable time. Priests' healing is essentially ineffective, with every type of enemy generally dealing far more damage than a priest can heal, and the final boss dealing enough to kill any unit in the game within a single round of attacks, even the "ultimate" melee unit.
At the very least, it did better in some senses than the original Purgatory, seeing as how I was willing to play through it to the end, but it was also somehow even less of a functioning game, leaving me with a feeling that it was released from Early Access unfinished. Not recommended, go play one of the other KB-lite games instead. Or actual King's Bounty, if you're in the mood for a full-length game.
This is the next (second) part of the adventures of ex-general Xzus. If You liked the previous part and You're further interested in story then You can expect a similar gameplay with additions such as a shop where You can buy items for improving our protagonist.
This game, once you get past learning the interface is actually a lot of fun and addicting. I played Purgatory 1 quite a bit when it came out and enjoyed it. It's a turn based strategy game (IGO-YGO) where you are apparently trying to get out of hell. You recruit different creatures to fight for you and then as your forces get stronger you progress through the different levels as the enemy army gets slowly tougher and tougher.
The game is a bit rough...the graphics grew on me after playing, but the one frustraing thing is the interface. Moving units to the hex you want can sometimes be difficult, especially when the hex map is crowded with units. I still havent figured out how to cast the main unit's spells yet and that has been frustrating on a number of occasions.
Overall, I like the game, I played it for almost an hour and some this morning and am looking forward to play some more.
The original was bad - this is worse. Don't even bother.
This wants to be HoMM light, but it fails in a lot of ways:
The graphics are too busy and generally just don't look very good
The units are too large so you can't see what hex they're actually in
I couldn't figure out how to learn what abilities actually did (no tooltips)
Sometimes my units couldn't attack and I couldn't figure out why
progression is all about grinding fights where you take no losses until you are strong enough to fight the next fight with no losses

TLDR: Instance based grind-a-lot tactical with HOMM inspiration. Boils down to a lot of repetition of low levels until you can squad up.
The problem with this game is that it encourages you to play it safe. Keeping you mopping up early instances over and over until you feel you can safely overpower the next level. The difficulty spike between instances can be hard to gauge as you cannot spy on the enemie's composition and they often include stronger than normal boss version of the critter you are now unlocking.
Basically think heroes of might&magic in which you defeat peasants, to get gold, then unlock an instance with archers, defeat archers, unlock instances with knights. You move up the tech tree unlocking a free unit of each type and some coins. The coins can then be used to purchase hero equipment, additional troops and the like.
The itemization did not feel super well thought out, with many items having pros and cons that make them pointless purchases, purchasing a skillup to a creature is almost never worth it compared to saving the gems and buying a higher tier creature instead.
The sprites for critter models often obscure hexes to which you'd like to send your troops making the environment navigation occasionally troublesome.
Some cooldown abilities such as cursing the ground did not seem to work correctly.
There seemed to be some audio issues with some audio clips form the hero spamming themselves while other creatures had no sound to speak of.
Most of the fighting is done straight from the town hub, through something called the tower of challenges. There is still a map you can explore and go through in the overworld which cuts you off of reinforcements but the cost to go back and forth is rather negligible.
Conclusion: While this is a better overall version of the same game as Purgatory, it does not significantly make the gameplay richer. Having beaten the original version I found the sequel to be better presented and better organized but the loss of novelty from the art, the lack of mystery from the already thin plot, and the re-use of the simple "reach map end defeat guardian" objective made it all a tad difficult to swallow a second time.
If you are a huge fan of these type of games, enjoy the art and need a low cost or free distraction this might keep you busy for an afternoon.
Thankfully the game autosaves as you move along giving you the option to play partway and grind more later.
However getting your team wiped and you mentally recounting how much grind would be required to make up for your losses is likely to cause you to want to abandon play.
For those reasons I'd recommend avoiding this title and ultimately removing it from library makes the most sense for me to avoid clutter.
