Cool
brillant addition to my DOW collection
One of the best Warhammer 40k RTS games i've played. Love the story and the charactors
=)
over rated, DOW 1 better
it keep crashing
best goddamn game
goated game.
Inmortal Jewel of the videogame industry
This game is actually amazing, when i saw a warhammer 40k rts, i had to buy it. I didnt buy the first one since i prefer smaller armies and better graphics, but overall its a good game with en engaging story and skirmish mode. (Terminators are just so 😍)
Excelente juego
cant open on a second monitor, defies the shift + win + arrow key command. just opens up a black box on the side of your other monitor but the game remains firmly rooted on the main monitor.
tops game
It's fun! I literally only played the last stand.
Still one of the best 40k multiplayers around.
Excellent expansion, had a lot of fun with the new factions.
Buy it on sale, play last stand, profit.
INTRODUCTION:
Dawn of War II: Retribution is the third and final expansion to the Dawn of War II titles. (Also see my Reviews for Dawn of War II and Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising).
The story takes place after the events of Chaos Rising where Gabriel Angelos and his followers were labeled as renegades by their own Chapter Master Azariah Kyras. With the Tyranid invasions, Ork assaults, Chaos Incursions and Eldar Raids, the Imperium has had enough and has now sent the Inquisition to wipe Sub-sector Aurelia from the Galaxy. The player assumes the role of Captain Apollo Diomedes of the Blood Ravens Honor Guard in his quest to uncover the truth about his Brothers and the Chapter Master he serves.
PROS:
+ More Factions in the Singleplayer Campaign: - It is refreshing to see that Relic decided to bring back their old formula where other factions are now playable. This includes, Orks, Eldar, Chaos, Imperial Guard and Tyranids. No Tau though.
+ Active Multiplayer Scene: - I normally don't care about Multiplayer in games but I found it very impressive that there still exists a very active online multiplayer community. Last Stand is always fun to play.
+ Imperial Guard: - This faction is the latest addition to the multiplayer / skirmish mode and is very fun to play. Well balanced in my opinion and has added new and interesting characters with likable personalities like Sergeant Merrick.
+ Hero Replacement: - You can now field special Honor Guard units rather than the Hero units you are given. Example: Leave Scout Sergeant Cyrus and deploy a Terminator Honor Guard Squad instead.
The game's attention to the Warhammer 40,000 universe is impressive, with detailed units, environments, and lore.
good game
it no work
Stand alone DLC that brings Dawn of War II to its best...partially.
Campaign is relatively shorter here and a bit off from what it was in the original game and previous DLC Chaos Rising. Everything is simplified and the whole idea of small squads kinda gone. Story mode got closer to multiplayer, giving you a bit of zerg gameplay mixed with "not so deep RPG elements" and a bit of heroes with their sometimes broken gear. Huge plus to Imperial Guards, Tyranid, Orcs, Elders, Chaos enjoyers because now we have options to play new stories as those factions besides Blood Ravens Space Marines (it's still сanon though). But don't expect a lot of difference in the main plot of the story though because the game will just relatively switch your enemies for most encounters without giving you a unique experience and story rich gameplay. But it still will be at the point of when it makes sense, so no Orc+Eldars+Space Marines fighting against demons and throwing out with rainbows.
Multiplayer got some updates. Imperial Guards are here now and with certain DLCs you can even play as Krieg's Death Korps and some stylish Space Marines. If you know, you know.
PvE co-op mode also got new heroes like Tau, Necrons and Imperial Guards ones.
I believe that this game is still alive in this version and worth playing no matter what, even if you didn't play any other previous Dawn of War game. Multiplayer is alive compared to absolutely dead DoWIII but not as big as in DoWI, paradox ain't it...
much worst than the normal DOW 2
I love this game even all these years later, and not just because they dropped the ball so hard on the third game. DOW 2 is truly a well made and worthy successor to DOW 1 and its expansions. I just wish the original voice actor for Davian Thule could have been used, but at least Vegeta came back to voice the IG doughboys.
has been lagging and freezing, otherwise good
if you like army painter from number 1 its in multiplayer also its fun
one of my all time favourites
i cant even launch it
Iz da shootiest
erry noice
fun game
its still going hard
Do not buy DoW3, stick with DoW2 and just buy the amazing DLC's like this one
Nostalgia, I love the old 40k games
Good game.
10/10.
Masterpiece.
It is a cult classic. It does not get old. The Last Stand mode is as fun today as it was 10 years ago. Give it a try.
not good game, the mission is repeated for each race, some have less dialogue
- it feels like work and less like game
-a downgrade from dawn of war 1
-cannot skip tuturial mission, very annoying
-it just feel really repeatitive , takes fun out of the game
ist fanstisch
its ok but I wouldn't play it for more than 228 hours or so
ONE HECK OF AN RPG/RTS
Its fun, not the same as prior WDW 1 as in No Building Structure and most importantly lost opportunity with no Sisters. Yet way better when it comes to graphics and "movement/gameplay".
Much different from the previous DLC and main game. A different set of heroes but the story isn't as grasping really.
The 4 squads have been changed to be only 4 singluar heroes which seemed underwhelming and i'm unsure why the devs chose to do that.
But they allowed for hiring extra squads on the battlefield to augment your army. It can be fun but seems weird that the four customised troops you send in come in by themselves and really confused me. Allowing the extra squads really does make the game more fun though at times seemed unrealistic especially on the carrion missions where your kind on the run but can somehow recruit out of nowhere.
Its not a bad game and feels like it completes the storyline but i feel it could have been done alot better. I haven't played any of the other storylines yet.
It is the overall better of the three but it removes some of the better features from the first one while improving on the rest. A conquest like mode would have been great. The AI is a lot better than the first one but that could just be because it manages less units.
To be honest it's more than a little weird that between Dawn of War 1, 2 and this 2.5 DLC they went from mass-tactics army builder to squad micro-management to something in between, but despite the somewhat jarring initial adjustments it's an incredibly fun RTS game, even today.
The only downside is it's age and the compatibility issues that can sometimes bring. Make sure you check your tech when you go to play this one!
get the codex edition mod, its amazing and makes this game better than it already is
Cadian Campaign alone makes this worth it
The whole game relies on permanently online connection. It also seems to drop out from said connection in the middle of single player campaigns...or even the army painter (which also requires permanent online connection).
DOW 1 & 2 are the reason I love 40k. Still not many games have captured the epic, over the top feeling that the whole universe has.
Sucks DOW 3 was so bad. At least we have Space Marine 2.
The main game is ok, but the Last Stand add on is fantastic, still looking for a coop game that is as fun but nothing quite compares. Never bought DW3 because there is no Last Stand.
