The Orks are Literally the F student's they Invent wild shit and that shit works. Absolute Peak Inventors 🙏👌
buckets of fun however the one eldar mission makes no sence
Wow way better than i was expecting, i liked the original games, the second one didn't really grab me, but this expansion just feels right.
still the best game of the series. still players online at any time of the day in 2025.
The peak refinement of the Company of Heroes style RTS. Sadly disregarded in favour of its more conventional older brother
There's almost nothing bad about this game.
Except the Blood DLC... reviews are mostly negative.
The units look amazing.
Heroes have OP abilities and upgrades.
Absolute Chaos.
Very cool futuristic game.
Capture and hold point.
Careful movement = victory.
Paying attention to your flanks = victory.
I wish there was a total warhammer like Dawn Of War Retribution.
Dawn of War II: Retribution is to DoW II what Soulstorm was to the original DoW — the final, most complete entry in the series, offering the broadest content and the most polished gameplay of the DoW2 line.
I’ve spent most of my hours in The Last Stand mode — a standalone horde survival mode that's entirely separate from both the campaign and competitive multiplayer. In Retribution, The Last Stand has been refined to the point of being genuinely addictive, unlike its rougher versions in previous titles. That alone speaks volumes about the depth and quality of the content here.
The visuals were stunning for 2011 and still hold up surprisingly well. Combined with an incredibly faithful Warhammer 40k atmosphere — from unit design to voice work — the game nails the universe's gritty, tactical tone like few others.
Retribution isn’t just an excellent Warhammer game — it’s one of the few S-tier 40k titles even as of 2025. It also stands tall as a superb tactical RPG in its own right. If you're into Warhammer or deep, squad-based strategy, this is an easy recommendation.
P.S. I probably won’t write separate reviews for DoW II and Chaos Rising, so I’ll say this: they’re also S-tier Warhammer 40k games, well worth playing — though for different reasons. Each offers unique strengths and atmosphere that complement what Retribution delivers.
this take what i love about warhammer 40000 its like ice cream after dinner
one of the best RTS games I have ever playd its like a 40K company of heros at least thats what the imperial guard feel like to me
peak
Good RTS, almost every campaign is excellent, despite the lazy re-skinned missions due to the nature of it's repetitiveness.
This game is heavily addictive!
Last stand is really fun if you a couple friends to play with and is probably the only reason why I recommend it. Especially if you like the idea of a 40K isometric coop survival game. The mod scene is also there giving you more content from dedicated DoW and 40K fans as time passes.
I think the campaign and skirmish mode have issues. Campaign is very copy & paste and really felt rushed (A shame compared to base DoW2 & Chaos Rising). The best I can really say is that it helps the player understand the various factions a bit more before going into multiplayer. Skirmish is also very hit or miss with the AI generally being pretty brainless without mods alongside a limited pool of maps.
Do not buy anything associated with GW. They are a garbage company that hates the community that made it so popular to begin with.
blood for the blood god.
40k smash
FUN
Diamond in the rough if there ever was one. I was expecting more command and conquor but got WC3. This game is friggen amazing. The level of minute detail in this game is something you simply dont see anymore. The love the dev's have for the warhammer universe is aparent in every minute detail this game has. If you like hero rts then you have to play this game. So far i only have 12 hours but will be putting many many more on this game.
One of the most important RTS games of all times.
WAR HAMMER!!!!!!!!
not as fun as the originals but still very enjoyable.
One of my favorite games ever
Lots of multiplayer gaming
It isn't perfect but if you like 40k you will probably enjoy it. Nice music and visuals. Gameplay is good but not incredible. I highly recommend you play the campaigns on Very Hard otherwise they become a cakewalk very quickly. On very hard they are challenging up until the lategame where if you built your characters properly you are Godlike.
If they had just made a hybrid of this and the original dawn of war then Dawn of War 3 would have succeeded.
Second best warhammer rts of all time
I liked it, OG 2 is the best but this one wasnt so bad. I guess this is the "Soulstorm" of the DoW2 trilogy. Its real sin was setting us up for what would become the vomit inducing light show that was 3
Legend.
What is your duty? To serve the Emperor's will!
One of the best grimdark 40k RTS franchises.
Its better than Soulstorm and DOW3. Its all tears from here. Enjoy this and make a jump to the more current titles.
A culmination of the Dawn of War 2 design, allowing you to play through as a Hero-based or more Army-based method. The lack of variety in campaigns is a bit disappointing, but the sheer number of available factions is very welcome after the Space Marine focus of DoW 2 and Chaos Rising. The gear system is understandably pared back, but the little bits of lore on every piece of wargear are as interesting as ever. Though the story doesn't change much by faction, the writing helps smooth over the problems. The orks remain hilarious, and the tyranids bring their own out-of-context humour to the situation.
Worst of the DoW2 variants. They leaned too far into the MOBA themes. Give me squads. I want my "heroes" to be part of squads. Chaos Rising is infinitely better, but this is still good.
Like coh2 but in warhammer 40k.
Still a great game
Our will shall be our weapons, our faith shall be our armour.
OK, this is a tough one for me, the game itself is pretty good, is still Dawn of War II at its core, the problem is that it is a little obvious that this game focus was "The Last Stand" part, the campaigns are, practically speaking, more or less the same missions with the same events, and more or less the same order, there are some changes here and there, but some are so small you can't even notice them sometimes. The missions are pretty good, but if you want to complete all the races, having to complete what is essentially the same campaign six times is a little too much. That being said the game is, as I said before, more DoW II, so is still pretty good and fun. Since I don't play online and don't really care about The Last Stand, I can't say a lot about them, for what my friend tell me, they are pretty good, a little repetitive, but good anyway.
Blood for the blood god
Fun game, it just ignores your in put some times. Some commands will be grayed out for no apparent reason the game likes to swap between left click and right click being confirm on using an ability. Leap and teleport over walls and map geometry but over a gap on the floor? Sorry, you have to take the long way around.
Been playing for years
Is good game.
BURN THE ENEMIES OF MAN IN HOLY FIRE!
Chaotic game.
good
A Well Made Game But The Only Downside Is The Army Limit. Overall I Give It A 10/10 For Gameplay And AI Intelligence That Actually Defends The Bases When They Are Getting Attacked By Hostiles.
heheheh Shovel go brrrrr
fun game :)
great game.
Most finely portrayed 40k and mods so far.
As of now, Elite mod is where most players are at, one can find matches every 5 mins. You may find prolific players with thousands of hours soaked in it.
Play the rich Codex mod for 40k lore experience and lonely skirmishes with great AI.
The Last Stand co-op mode has players every few minutes or so.
good game dont get 3 3 sucks dosent run good on most pcs this one needs titans and flyers though
The last cashgrab, its all downhill from here.
pretty good 40k game
