Mysterium: A Psychic Clue Game

So, I'm really mixed on this one, and if I could give a game an "eh", I would.

So, if you're looking to buy this game, you probably have one question in mind: does this game allow you to play Mysterium online? The answer is yes, it does. So why am I lukewarm on this? Do I dislike Mysterium?

No, Mysterium is a good game. The issue is that this client is barely passable. First, when I bought the game, it completely failed to launch. One of my friends found a Steam community post with some code you could input into the launch settings to get it to work, but the fact that that's required is already unacceptable in my opinion. I had honestly just assumed the game was unplayable and was mid-return process when they found the fix.

Once you get the game launched though, it is still lacking in quite a few areas. For some reason the "join game" button is mostly broken, so you have to go to the multiplayer menu then repeatedly quit out and then try the "join game" button over and over again, it usually works within 5-10 tries.

From there, the game works pretty smoothly, though there's also no reconnect feature, as far as I can tell? One of my friends got disconnected once, and the game does not give any time for them to reconnect, immediately replacing them with a bot. Then, when they did manage to re-launch the game, there didn't seem to be a way to get them control back? It said they were in the game on their end, but the bot continued to play on their behalf.

Anyway, my overall recommendation is going to be to not buy this one. Mysterium is a good game, but it deserves better than this minimum viable product. With that said, if you're desperate for a way to play Mysterium online and are willing to deal with the headache of a client, it does accomplish what it needs to.

Similar to the game "Dix It" with a clue like twist in a way. Def play this game with friends and maybe in like a voice chat. It has kind of creepy vibes but still it's a very enjoyable game!

The game will no longer launch or support multiplayer. Do not purchase. I cannot recommend this game in this state.

The game does NOT currently work. I have confirmed with multiple people that the issue is consistent. The servers are inaccessible due to an API issue and have been for several days at this point. If this is a sign that Asmodeee/Twin Sails Interactive/Playsoft no longer intends to support the game, they need to take this game off the store and bar further sales.

This used to be great, but game no longer launches on any operating system.

It can be patched to play singleplayer only, but the real magic was with online coop here.

Please fix launch/multiplayer and I will definitely change this review back to positive as it's a great game.

Buggy but fun with friends :)

This game helped me get through COVID. Our group basically created a language with the cards!

This game used to be great and run smoothly, but now lots of things are buggy and it makes it hard to play with friends if you have to keep reloading the game to get the Play button to work. Servers seem less stable and drop people more often, and overall it just feels like it's been neglected for too long to be worth buying at this point.

Played this a couple of years ago with friends and it was fine. Played it again for Halloween again this year and there were all sorts of issues. Menus weren't working. People were disconnected from games randomly. Some had issues simply getting it to launch.

Not sure what happened, but it seems to have gotten noticeably worse in the last couple years. Cannot recommend in the current state.

Game appears to be broken and unable to launch. Forum is a graveyard of people reporting this issue with no response. Does not appear to be supported, which would be a major issue in a multiplayer game even if it still did launch properly.

Pros: nice ambience, nice visual. Stress-free card handling. Story mode.

Cons: multiplayer matching require you to go back and forth between menus, UI is not very intuitive. Background music don't have variety and further content is locked behind DLCs.

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. they literally break the game to try to force you to buy the game again and/or just break the game because they suck. So consider this your warning. If you buy this game, you would actually have more fun just watching bills swirl down the toilet.

It's a great board game, but hard to translate into a video game. Matchmaking is super hard--just no one plays this game anymore. And it lacks the fun of talking to each other about which picture is correct.
