As the eldest son of the Katsuragi Family - one of the leading families of mages in Japan - Kiyotaka travels across the ocean to London with his little sister, Himeno, in order to study abroad at Royal London Magic Academy, also known as Weather Vane.
A sprawling underground academic city awaits Kiyotaka and Himeno as they set foot for the first time in the fog-covered city of London.
The academic city is situated in an underground lake and is composed of three floating islands in the shape of a crescent moon.
Many fledgling mages from around the world congregate here to study their craft in an optimum environment.
Kiyotaka begins to feel at ease in his new environment, and soon enough the siblings are merrily hanging out with their new friends at school.
Experiencing ordinary days, repeating like a da capo, as if they were a dream...
A tale of encounters and farewells, and the story of how it all began.

Translators made a BIG mistake translating Sharuru (or Sharlulu) as "Charles" and deriving Lulu from Charles doesn't work. Now I can't finish reading it. Thank-you for ruining a perfectly good visual novel. Charlene, Sharla; anything but Charles!
Good story with cliche plot twist, but well presented,
I recommend read first side story after finish prologue chapter. First side story basically prologue of the next chapter(Weather Vane Chapter).
(+) Story was well presented, their know how to place comedy and serious scene. The way the talk make the reader enjoying their conversation
(+) You can make many fool choice and get hillarious answer without worrying if it affecting the plot
(+) I love back sprite
(+) Side character got their own development and still appear in heroine's route(because mostly VN, Thanos snapped them)
(+) The plot twist was kinda shocking. But once again, it cliche plot twist.
(-) some route kinda rush when reaching climax
(-) The side characters has more personality than actual heroine. and it become problem since their appearance make the heroine feel flat.
(-) prologue chapter was too long and waste of time, since it not much connected to actual story(only end of prologue, dream, and Ricca behaviour).
(-) the way story change for every loop still not enough to give atmosphere if something really change.
Heroine rating
4. Himeno: Her story was good at the start and middle, but kind rush at ending
3. Charles: Wholesome, that's the only thing i can say. Her ending kinda sad, but easy to see it coming
2. Sara: Drama kinda forced, but i still understand how it feel, Her route really give a true charm of her
1. Ricca: Wholesome, lewd, drama, and plot heavy become one on her route. I liked :D
0. Aoi: Her route was separate from the other heroine. Her route almost same(maybe) as her side story, but with better conclusion. She basically the core of the story
About true ending
There is two true ending in this game. One via last chapter and the other via side stories.
Both of them involve Sakura appearance.
Last side stories(second true ending) fully involve all Da Capo 2 cast. So beware when you never read previous tittle to get confused.
Played it on my steam deck.
Da Capo 3 R is a very good value for the price, especially when it's on sale. It is extremely long. The story IS kind of repetitive at times during each route, but there's enough unique content. Aoi was my favourite girl by far which I honestly wasn't expecting when I first started playing. Unfortunately, you can't choose a girl for the true ending which is kind of disappointing, but it's still a very happy ending. Oh, the main character is quite dense, so if that is something you can't stand this might not be for you.
Mildly recommended. This is a very long visual novel; probably 50+ hours for the main story. Only consider this if you are already a fan of the Da Capo franchise or if you are skilled at navigating Japanese dating-sim slice-of-life visual novels and know when to skip sections without affecting the story flow. Oh and no, you don't need to have played the previous installments before this.
The mystery thriller (albeit light-hearted) aspect of the story is enjoyable, especially the story of the "culprit" and the true route, which are quite well done. However, the flow of the story is disrupted by several lengthy, unrelated slice-of-life sections, which should be skipped for better story pacing.
The other aspects, such as the music, character design, other character story arcs, chemistry, and visuals are average. Though the overall production and English translation quality is good.
Decent Visual Novel for Da Capo fans I guess. Kinda wished there's more modern kazami school setting story but I'm decently satisfied after clearing the True End route.
There's lots of cameo appearance and straight up DC2 epilogue story at the last side episode so you might want to at least watch the anime of dc 2 as it is closely related.
"Da Capo" an Italian musical term meaning "From The Beginning" taking from the internet.
Da Capo III R, a massive undertaking, isn’t easily slotted into one visual novel category. The mystery surrounding the game isn’t dark or foreboding enough for horror enthusiasts, but it’s not as “get the girl” as other harem games tend to be.
The story is utterly massive to behold, and, in theory, you’d need to have already invested close to one hundred hours in the previous (and arguably inferior) games to fully appreciate the big reveal. But it is a wonderful story. The girls aren’t insipid or empty, and everything does come together. While you might feel some initial inhibitions, you don’t get hung up on the idea of breaking others hearts when it becomes clear that each attempt is a new lease on life, a new chance to see what happens.
If you’ve truly been interested in a cute visual novel experience and want something top shelf without being lewd, then Da Capo III R is an amazing place to start. Just don’t plan to do anything else that weekend.
So no Da Capo III Fan Disc?
DA CAPO 3R is unquestionably one of the best VNs I've ever read! The story was no less than fascinating, brilliantly intertwining romance with science fiction. It was so good that it very difficult to predict what was to happen next, (in contrast to what you may find with most average VNs), in fact, on most occasions my attention was utterly glued to this unique story line. The wild cards, if you wish, were Aoi and Sakura, where I constantly wondered how they would fit in and their respective roles - it took about 85% of the story to pass before the true "identity" of Aoi was revealed, and shortly after Sakura came into focus; (I don't believe I'm dropping any spoilers though...).
It was a very long game - at least twice as long as any of the VNs of the "Grisaia" trilogy, for example, and quite old too; about 9 years. The CGs were excellent, along with the BGM especially at the route climaxes.
For those who love a great VNs with exceptional stories, DA CAPO 3R is not to be missed!
PS: Special thanks to the author of the corresponding Achievement Guide - this was very well set out and proved to be extremely useful!
Total on a ten-point scale:
Plot - 8.5
+: very solid story: no empty holes, unreasonable moments, even things that could be attributed to "magic" in general is carefully explained; for such a long thing (50-60 hrs), a good job with in-game time-flow; there are almost no illusion choices; free-roam events are fun.
-: after all, there's a reason not to call the novel interesting, I was never harshly surprised at any plot twist, it rather fits perfectly like a puzzle, and not everyone likes this.
Characters - 6
+: different events in routes; a LOT of characters actually, not the school of 2 teachers and 5 students.
-: 2 out of 5 routes just weak; a LOT supporting one-scene characters; the presence of returning heroes from previous chapters, strange attempts to weave them into the plot of this one.
Narrative - 9
At a minimum of errors/misprints in the english-language version, moderately accurate word selection. Everything is translated, there are suddenly no hieroglyphs/symbols, etc.
Atmosphere / Aesthetics - 7
Pros: there are moments and laugh and be sad; the novel is engaging enough not to be dropped/read through force.
Cons: there could have been much more of the above; there is no "unique style" (even one mechanics/idea) that exists in this novel only.
Visual/design - 7
Moderately pleasant view.
Content (CG, BG, sprites, art) - 8/10
I scored a point for quantity, as for quality, though it's much like decent.
Music - 5
Full soundtracks are even good at times, but BGM let us down in general: sometimes aggravating or inappropriate melodies, a "bell" in the title menu...
Sound design, voice acting - 8
There are not many sounds here, but at least they do not irritate. Voicing is of high quality and represents acting in a good sense. Some characters (Sharuru, Shiki, Kousuke, etc.) are directly taken up by voice actors.
Comfort, stability - 10
Nothing has ever crashed, convenient skips, navigation, etc. Quite a lot of settings on their own, in short, respect+.
Steam version - 9
The price for such a volume is okay, all achievements do work well. Well, a point for the you-know-what content can not be not taken =)
RECOMMENDED
I enjoyed the game during my first time playing it since it's on Steam.
I also tried to get as much of the achievements as I could and the guides are a great help. The game play was interesting, though I had to refer to the shortcuts menu to see how to save and load, which was one of the more confusing aspects of trying to find stuff that wasn't included in the configuration settings. Since the D.C. ~Da Capo~ series is a long game with having not just the heroines whom Kiyotaka (the main character) can choose to court, there are also several interactions with the side characters to help progress the story or just regular moments of poking fun, side episodes, and the True Route. As always, the soundtrack is also a nostalgic part of the entire series.
My main con is that I would've liked for Manga Gamer to have the 18+ patch on their website to install into the game on Steam. The other thing is that even with the guide, I wasn't able to complete the achievements and get all the CGs, but it's not too bad.
This took a while, but I wanted to finish fully the game. All routes, all scenes & all CG's unlocked. This will be a long one so bear with me, or just skip to the end to see the verdict.
First I want to add, that this is not my first entry into Da Capo. I played the first one,the second one and Da Capo IF (which is a continuation from one of the routes of Da Capo 1). And I was happy to know that Da Capo 3 has some progress into the story after Da Capo 2.
In the main game, you play some years after Da Capo 2 (I don't know exactly how many) and after the prologue you play in the past (way before Da Capo 1).
My first impressions of the game were awful – I did not like the main characters one bit, only I liked Ricca a little bit. And at one point I thought to drop the game, since I was coming from Da Capo 2 – and there almost 1h and I loved most of the characters that were introduced. The atmosphere of Da Capo is there, you once again go to a school, and there are many girls to choose from – but there is one problem. From the very beginning EVERY girl likes the main character. Which is bizarre, most of the time there will be one girl, and the other girls will like the main characters only after some event. Other than that, they went overboard with the fan-service in this prologues section, which put me off. It was like one day he is with one girl, the next with the other – rinse and repeat until you pass all the girls. But here is where the good part comes – after a while, you pass the prologue section and go to the past, where everything is way different. No longer everybody loves the main character you have to earn that !! And you go on a Magic School and it's great. A great new way to spice things up.
The story is great of itself, there is a main plot in the game – but it's unlocked only after you finish all the girls routes. And like Da Capo 2 – there are True Routes which unlock after you finish the girls routes. And BELIEVE me you need to do it, because the True Route is where the game shines. There are also side episodes which unlock while you play the main game, but you can unlock them in the Extra menu. I recommend to play them after you finish at least 1 route, and very last to play after the main game ends. You will be please to see what happens – you don't need to play the other 2 games, but it will be waay better if you did.
The gameplay is your average visual novel, you read text and progress the story, at some point in the game you make decisions where to go, depends on which girl you are going at the moment, there are also other gameplay mechanics like investigating but I will leave them to you to discover. One great addition is like a standard visual novel you have your history of all the text you have read – but in this one, you can go back at a specific point in the game by just clicking on the row you want, which is great in my opinion and gives you a choice if you want it.
The graphics are awesome, with great artwork for the background and characters. Here is something also that I think other visual novels should take note. For every characters there is an artwork in which they stand in front of you (which is standard), and one with their back to you – which is not a great deal if think about it, but it adds so much to immersion and to show you where the character is facing. Also there is a dept to where the characters stands – for example, if a characters is close to you – her portrait will be way close to the screen – and with that, we can have for example : 1 characters is way in front of you, so she is with her back to you, next one is holding your hand so she is close to the screen and the third one is beside you and in the middle of the screen. Speaking of portraits – when there is a CG with all the characters, there is a mini portrait in the lower left corner of the screen which adds detail when a character is speaking (this is through the whole game, but I think it's best when there is a event CG) – meaning there is no longer need to change the CG every 2 min.
The music is what you expect from Da Capo, the classic menu theme returns with a rearrangement which is great. All the new BGM's are very good, and grow on you as you play the gam. Speaking of BGM – the one thing that Da Capo 2 and this one does great is a thing that other visual novels should take note. For every main heroine there is piano arrangement of her theme, which adds great mood and atmosphere for her route, makes it a little bit more personal for each one in my opinion, and it's great for romantic moments.
TL:DR Da Capo 3 is great, it has the quirks of the old titles, while maintaining it's self apart from the others. You have a lot of content to play like main routes, true routes and side episodes. The graphics are great and music is top notch. If you can muster and play through the prologue you will see that this is why Da Capo stands out of all other dating visual novels in my opinion.
And if you are reading this Mangagamer - please release Da Capo 1 & 2 on steam :) I love those games so much.
De Capo 3 R has a lot of heart, but it’s too long, way too long. Look at the number of hours played and consider that I resorted to skipping and speed reading for parts that were just dragging on too long. This feels like they were under some contractual obligation to make the longest VN possible- you’re easily looking at 80-90+ hours if you don’t skip any voice work and complete all the content.
There are some good themes, enjoyable characters, and fun dialogue. The game does slice of life really well, with pleasant artwork and music. The game splits into multiple routes depending on your choices- some are compelling and foreshadow the true ending, and others are padding.
The setting is a little different from your typical Japanese VN, being set in a magic school in London. Not quite Harry Potter-esque but some may find it a refreshing change of pace.
There are some bigger plot twists, but even when things turn serious, the ratio is still about 90% slice of life. I think it could have been a brilliant story with some better editing. As it is, you’re certainly getting a lot of bang for the buck but you’ve got to be seriously committed to see things through to the finale.
Tentative recommendation but not for everyone.
Now, I don't have an awful lot of experience with visual novels, but out of all the ones I've played, Da Capo 3 R is definitely my favorite one thus far. I'll admit I wasn't expecting a lot going into it since I watched the anime of Da Capo 3 ahead of time and I found the anime to be pretty meh. Even as a fan of the first 2 Da Capo animes, I was kinda disappointed with how the anime of 3 turned out. But recently I decided to check out the visual novel since I saw the rankings were fairly high compared to the anime. And let's just say, best decision I've made all week! I've put roughly 50 hours into this game and I'm still not done with it. Now I know it's a bit presumptuous to be writing a review before completely finishing the game, but I think I've gone far enough to have a solid enough opinion on it. This game kept me intrigued the entire time. I was excited to see how everything would turn out. I love the characters in this game, and each girl's route felt special and heartwarming. The overall plot is a little weak, but I think that's to put more emphasis on the characters. Also, fair warning, the prologue of this game is kinda misleading. The prologue makes this game to be just a typical harem novel with a lot of fanservice (which in a way it is). But once you get to the Weather Vane portion of the game (which makes up roughly 90% of the entire game), that stuff really takes a back seat. Of course, if fanservice is your thing, you'll feel right at home with this game. If it's not however, don't fret, that stuff becomes way less frequent once you get past the prologue. There is some pretty good character development underneath all the fanservice, I swear, lol. And can we talk about the music for a moment? Cause OH MY GOD IT IS AMAZING AND I'M SO UPSET THAT THEY NEVER RELEASED AN OFFICIAL OST FOR THIS! All the tracks fit well with each scenario and never felt out of place. I find myself humming along to these tunes the entire time. And while there may not be an official OST for this, you can listen to each song in the extras menu, so I'm at least grateful for that. But yeah, this has been an absolute blast to play through and I would totally recommend to anybody who's into anime or visual novels. 9/10
Update: Finished the main game. 60 hours in total! And I haven't even done the side episodes yet. Although 10 of those hours might have been just me listening to the soundtrack, seriously it's so beautiful. I have very mixed feelings about the ending, but for the sake of spoilers, I won't say anything. Despite that, this was an absolute joy for me to play through. While the story I felt was kinda lacking a bit in some areas, it was still really fun to see how things turned out. I thought the justification for playing through the game multiple times was pretty clever. Yes, to get the true ending of the game, you have to complete each girl's route. But each route is still canon, so it's not like you did all those routes for nothing. It'll make sense when you play it. This game was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end, and I love it. At first, $40 seemed like a lot for a visual novel, but I think you're getting your money's worth and thensome. If you're willing to put up with (or for some cases enjoy) a bit of frequent fanservice, then please by all means play this game already.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
For all that it is, Da Capo III R is one of the best Visual Novels I have ever read.
It surprised me a lot. In a great way. Never thought I would be so interested in the story and wanting to know what was going to happen. It goes beyond that. It’s touching, sweet, beautiful, funny, sad and heartwarming.
The main story consists of:
- Prologue
- Weather Vane [4 routes that can be played in any order]
- Zero [Opens only after you have played the 4 possible routes]
- Da Capo
Plus 5 Side Episodes:
- Ultimate Battle of their First/Fated Encounter! Long. Events happen before Weather Vane.
- Hinomoto Aoi Long. A different time loop as the 4 routes in the main story. Is connected to a few things that have been said in one of the routes.
- Gojouin Tomoe Really short. Wanted a romantic route for Tomoe and Kiyotaka.
- Elizabeth Really short. Weird/Amusing. Wanted more. Would like to see Elizabeth and Kiyotaka as a couple.
- Ultimate Battle in the Cherry Blossom Breeze! Long. Kind of a continuation of the main story.
They are unlocked by events in the main story and can be played in any order.
I do suggest you play Ultimate Battle in the Cherry Blossom Breeze! last though.
Favorite route: Charles
Favorite character: Tomoe
I loved the story. It made me want more. More answers. What became of Aoi? Did she met her demise? And how so? Who did Kiyotaka end up with, both in the past and in the present? Did Himeno and Kiyotaka found a solution for her curse? How is Sakura related to Kiyotaka? What became of all of them? It even made me desire for an ending where all 5 of the girls end up with Kiyotaka and share him.
Hope they make Da Capo 4 in the future and give me the answers I long for.
It also made me want to play both previous games and I will surely buy them in the future.
The game is very beautiful, plus the voices are perfect for the characters. They are all very likeable. Even the soundtrack is perfect. Da Capo III R is the whole deal.
Steam version does not include the adult content though. On that note, the X-Rated version not only adds adult scenes. More than that if felt like it shows a deeper glimpse on their feelings toward each other and how strong they are.
X-Rated version can be bought on the Publisher's web page.
I strongly recommend this game for all VN lovers.
10/10
Da Capo III R is another visual novel from Circus studios. Having not played the previous Da Capos, I can't really go into the storyline as some of the die-hards can. However, I will say that the graphics are amazing. Whoever is doing the translations for the English text certainly did an excellent job. As far as I could see, there are no spelling/grammatical errors. The BGM is fantastic as well. However, the bummer is that there is not an OST compiled for this product. If I were to give this a letter grade, taking into consideration the lack of content, it would be an "A-".
Wright Micah Final Build 17.8 (added detal & explanation) (steam)
for you guys wondering if this game does run on windows xp and vista it does this game users directx 9c and 11. however i'v got someone saying that directx 10 hardware might not work.

thack you from Wright Micah
One of best novel i ever read
well the reason i like Da capo bcz i already played the previous series
but if you never played the previous series
you can play da capo 3 without worry too
if you already played the previous series then that is the main reason you need to buy this series , i'm sure you will not regret it <3~
in the middle of reading:
"a tale of love, romance, and friendship" is a perfect word to describe this one
this game giving a great story from each of the given main character
it even give scenario mode so it easier to replay a scene that's want to be replayed without searching the load data
(well.... although it didn't give the video mode to replay the opening theme it's still great enough)
never mind this last part which i wrote first time
after reading:
and so..... i finally finished reading it and....... i can only say wow.....
this VN got my attention 100%
the story got far more great than i've expected, the story didn't looked what it look like when first read so anyone who haven't read this VN yet......Prepare yourself to be shocked by the development of the story ^-^
Da Capo was pretty much my first visual novel I've ever read. Seeing it on steam is actually still a big shock to me. Getting hit so hard by nostalgia vibes from reading returning to Hatsune Island (even if only for a moment). In a general review, it's kind of hard to describe Da Capo III as anything different from any other visual novel, but in my opinion, it's really easy to enjoy and love the cast of characters introduced to you: every single character has their own memorable appeal. And for anyone riding on the "who's the best waifu" train, well... you'll likely have a hard time devoting to just one person simply by reading the common route.
As for anyone new to the series, Da Capo III is a standalone game. Whether you've seen the anime or played the first or second game doesn't matter. Da Capo III is setup in a way that will probably make you want to try out the other games, if not, it's a great visual novel on it's own. #RiccaBestWaifu
Edit: After finishing the true ending, I have to say, there's a really nice amount of easter eggs for anyone who's read Da Capo II. Overall, great visual novel for veterans and newcomers to the series~
- I finished the game from mangagamer, I buy it in STEAM to show my support. My hour game time in STEAM does not reflect my actual playtime -
I've been waiting for Da Capo 3 English for so long, I can't express how happy I am when it finally is here.
I'm a big fan of Da Capo, and I played almost all versions (as long as it is in English).
Da Capo 3 R is an all-age version, and I don't mind it at all.
The upside for all Da Capo is not the 18+ scene, but the very intricate story that always makes me memerized with the game from start to finish. If you enjoyed a Visual Novel like those of "Key" company, then I highly recommended playing Da Capo, because I guaranteed you that this will not dissapointed you.
You do not need to play the previous Da Capo to able to enjoy the game. But I'm certain if you never played other Da Capo before--by the time you finished with this one, you will wanted to play Da Capo 1 and 2.
I'm hardcore fan of Da Capo series, I've played almost all of DC series and DCIII is the best of Da Capo for me.
For someone who didn't play Da Capo 1and 2, don't to worry about it.
There're many thing related but Major of Da Capo III is what happen before Da Capo 1 and 2.
Story is back to English 1951(around 100years before DC1) where everything begin.
Story: well balance between sad and joy scenes and many plot hiding before true route.
There're many main routes in DCIII (and side character route too, but very short).
Every route connect to each other if you want to fully enjoy DCIII I recommended to play every route until you reach true route.
Character: Well-made match with Voice Actor, every character have deep background and most of main characters related to DC1 and 2.
Music: BGM appropriate well with story, when story process to some point OP (and Start Screen) will change to match with story.
At first maybe confuse because story switch between English and Hatsunejima with same characters, after reach to some point story will focus on English 1951
For Da Capo series information
Timeline
Da Capo 3 (in English 1951)
Da Capo (around 70-80 years after DC3 true end?)
Da Capo 2 (50 years after Da Capo1)
Da Capo 3 (20 years after Da Capo2)
There're "MANY MANY MANY" fandisc in Da Capo series but no need to play all of them, most of fandisc focus on what happen after main game ending or alternative routes.
eg
"D.C. Innocent Finale" is about what happen if Junichi go out with Kotori instead of Nemu
"D.C. II To You" there're 4 mini story Ajisai , Kikai no kokoro, Mahiru ni furu ame and Setsugekka (most of all is what happen before D.C. II begin except kikai no kokoro)
"D.C. III PP" is DCIII after story and about what happen to Yoshiyuki and his wife after married (Yoshiyuki married in D.C II Dearest marriage)
and other like DC*** PC/PS(plus communication/Plus situation) this is main game with addition routes.
