I do only have 3.4hrs but here is my take on MX vs ATV All Out and the series in general post-alive/reflex depending on how you look at it. There is a lot of writing so if you don't want to read it all you can just skip to my conclusion paragraph (penultimate paragraph) at the bottom of this review.
Going into this game i had a lot high hopes, both wanting to relive nostalgia from older games while simultaneously being fairly impressed from gameplay footage i used to watch from Windham151, but i also saw the downfall of the PS3 release MX vs ATV Supercross, so i also feared that things could get worse...
1st thing i noticed when booting up the game was that if you really like freestyle you're more likely to enjoy the handling in this game than someone who hates the freestyle gameplay, the way the bike handles while doing whips and hard turning looks visually appealing and feels pretty good, however again, it doesn't fit people who don't like the visual aspect of freestyle very much. The sounds weren't impressive, they were slightly below average considering previous MX vs ATV games.
2nd thing i noticed is that just like its predecessor; Supercross Encore, it lacked singleplayer content, it was good to see the Waypoint format return and the sprocket hunting from Untamed but sad to see it was only used for 1-5 events/maps in the whole game's career mode. One thing i noticed is the removal of the rival events we saw back in Reflex and Unleashed, Unleashed did it best due to extensive vehicle options but Reflex still had some charm about using the omnicross maps as duel maps for such events. Generally this follows the same issue that you'd end up playing the same tracks and vehicle combinations without being able to break it up with some new stuff since there isn't a lot of variety, speaking of variety... just like Supercross Encore this installment lacks as little as knockoffs of bike brands like we saw in Reflex (Takashi, Blaze, etc), that is because of licensing but even the default bikes in Supercross Encore (specifically the rainbow variants) looked more visually appealing at least in my opinion. Nice to see UTVs make a return but there is a lot less variety than Reflex, for example the Trophy Trucks and Class 1 Unlimited buggies aren't in the post-PS3 games anymore. Also the DLCs play a big role in this as well, why do we only get 6-8 MX Bikes in the whole vanilla game?
3rd thing was the dreaded DLCs, while better than Supercross Encore they are still HORRIBLE in terms of their application of DLCs, the content is so choked just to pay a **** ton for the DLCs, in Australia at least it costs $4.50 for ONE bike outside of sales (i bought one bike for $1.20 at winter sale just for context), overall there are 21 MX mods all costing this same amount. $4.50 x 21 = $94.50 AUD. 31 Vehicle mods in total costing $139.50, the tracks and the rest of the packs bring this up to $208.95, it is incredibly offensive to the consumer that the DLCs can cost nearly 4X as much as the base game, it is also incredibly offensive that the base game loses out on like 5X the content to its fully DLC'd counterpart, this problem also exists in Legends and is just getting ridiculous for players. Even if the argument is "licensing" its still way out of hand now, i feel maybe DLCs should bring something unique ie the planes, helicopters, sandrails and other AWESOME stuff that was in Unleashed a decade ago. These DLCs don't bring anything special to the game, If you're gonna make DLC for a game, they should bring something special, at least Supercross Encore brought Rhythm Racing, but even that can't be called "special" compared to the feeling of going head to head in planes or sandrails.
Overall, if you like freestyle events you probably will like the handling more because of its visuals but its not worth its price just for that, don't buy the DLCs because they don't bring anything new to the table, if you're gonna buy a DLC anyway, only buy 1 (ie your favourite 450 of that year), while the 2020 AMA Championship DLC looks enticing it is still too expensive to justify its content. Just like its predecessor it lacks base game content and definitely won't get you far. The multiplayer is dead as hell and i can't recommend it unless you have a group chat or server that has a ton of people who own the game, but again, its not worth the cost of the game on its own or with the freestyle liking to the game's handling. It is sad to see this monolith of dirtbike racing game history get bloated by DLC garbage, this franchise makes me question why EA was such a problem with bloated DLC garbage, which says something. It is never appropriate for a game to have DLC content that costs more than the base game overall, especially not 4 TIMES the cost of the base game. I don't understand what Rainbow and THQ Nordic are doing but eventually its just going to run the entire IP into the ground, and while i hope it doesn't happen, maybe it should if this is the standard of "innovation" we are expected to be okay with as consumers in future installments. If you want an MX vs ATV game, buy Reflex or Unleashed instead.
You may be asking why i haven't returned this game after all the things i've said, thats because of the stupid conditions on the gift card i got for christmas not allowing money back on refunds, so i'm stuck with this game and can't just buy reflex or unleashed like i recommended. I refunded Legends before i discovered this problem.
good game to freeroam, looks good
flotation device
very good
This game actually handles very decently on a Lenovo Legion Go as I'm a user of this device. So much better than MX vs ATV Legends since this is actually stable and there's more to do career wise. The customization is way better and the whipping and scrubbing mechanics are faster and fluid. The only reason why I hate legends is because their physics and preload mechanics are just too slow heavy and almost as if they couldn't decide between arcade or simulation. But this is way better, I definitely recommend
it sigma
yes
Best MX game.
Sniffer Rating: 10/10
Bikes sound bad, maps are lame, game is riddled with micro-transactions and overall theres not much to do,
I don't mind the physics, but theyre not great either.
Old games were way better
bet
good
Good but a bit cartoony physics :D
nice game
fun game but kinda outdated
Way more fun then it has any right to be. If you like Trackmania, you might actually like this too. Newbie, stick with it a bit. You dont HAVE to lean if you dont want too.
very addicting once you realize how much there is to learn and do
Lame physics, and lame out of sync engine sounds. Bored after 10 minutes every time i boot this up and try to like it.
