fun older game with decent challenge for its time
The audio is bugging very often resulting in repetitive sounds, voice lines and music. After a while the game crashes.Wish i saved my progress before losing it all.

When nostalgia hits you hard! How many hours spent on this beautiful game, building cities as beautiful as possible, fighting for money and resources, defending the city when the Emperor is not happy... Just the music is excellent. The best Roman city builder of a generation :)
I wish I had discovered this as a child, back when I had all the time in the world. I can easily imagine being completely fixated on this game. Even as an adult with limited time, I found myself so hooked that I couldn’t stop playing, though eventually, I had to.
Must play it with the "Augustus" mod.

Games like this one bring me back decades in the past, when games were made in a highly curated, idiosyncratic fashion.
I am a huge fan of Impression Games - I remember when I bought their DVD release with their entire builders' series catalogue.
The fomula is the same - build a society, ensure it is well fed, well managed and well structured.
A great game to install and replay on a Sunday.

Probably my favorite city-builder of all time. I'm actually surprised I don't have more hours in it, given how long some of the scenarios took me. Impressions was really cooking back in the day, and despite being a city-builder fanatic since then, I don't think I've found anything that comes close to Caesar 3 and Zeus (I don't have as much experience with the other Impressions games).
For those looking for a more difficult city-builder where random events and negligence force you to adapt and respond accordingly, I can definitely recommend this one. Despite being more than 20 years old, I think it's aged pretty well. Definitely enjoyed my time replaying it.
A small warning for anyone looking to pick up any of the early Impressions games though (this one especially). Managing your building and path placement is absolutely crucial, because one of the game's most unique mechanics involves "walkers", which are basically units that travel, deliver, and provide services. I've definitely completed the campaign before without any of this knowledge, but it helps to at least keep your city layout in mind, lest you fall victim to mass emigration and worker shortages.
And don't be afraid to start over on a particular scenario if all seems lost or too difficult to manage -- there are no construction times in this game, so you can get back on your feet very quickly with an ideally more optimal build. Definitely in my list of favorite games.

The game excels in creating a rich Roman environment with charming visuals and engaging building mechanics. It allows players to design and manage cities, balancing the needs of the populace while dealing with the challenges of resource management and military defense.
However, the difficulty curve can be frustrating at times. Certain scenarios feel unbalanced, making it hard to progress without grinding through earlier levels to build up resources. The AI can also be inconsistent, leading to moments where simple tasks can become unnecessarily complicated. Additionally, some users may find the interface somewhat dated and less intuitive compared to modern city builders.

nice nostalgia trip, actually better at this that when I was a kid. honestly still as fun as I remember it. 4 doesn't even compare in my eyes.
This game is 25 years old and functions better than most current city builders. 10/10. Would happily buy it a higher price.

I've been playing this game since I was little. It's such a huge nostalgic button for me, but also a great game. Its just hard enough to make you think and pivot to overcome whatever obstacle you have going on (seems like people have issue with food lol). I love how some buildings evolve overtime when curtain criteria are met. We need more of this in other sim builders as well. Anyway, love the game. Will probably play this until I'm old and grey.
I swear to fucking God, every time I play this, I run out of food. I build the needed locations, place them in close proximity to housing and markets, and my citizens' lazy asses won't work. It is a classic game a good balance of building and balance.
Got time to waste? Great little way to waste some time, and step back into the 90's. Some features, like using the markets to distribute enough food to your population, can be problematic. Go for this one if you don't have much money and you're looking for a good time!

My first ever city builder, which came with my first PC back in 2000. After watching some badly played YouTube videos, and being able to play the game on W10 thanks to Steam, I'm replaying the entire 20 missions from the start. The purpose of which is to produce my own informative YouTube videos.
