Berserk meets Dynasty Warriors...

The gameplay is essential the same as any Musou Game except Guts unlocks some specific tools and weapons as the game continues. (bombs, repeating crossbow, cannon arm,...)
There is an rpg aspect in the leveling/modifying of items and the generic leveling.

The storyline goes pretty far. Up to the part where he heads off to the Elf Island. Given that the story has yet to be concluded. It is a satisfying part where the campaign can end.

Other characters are playable like Skeleton Knight, Zod etc however the meat of the game is the story mode and playing Guts in his different forms & era's.
It is a satisfying storymode that is pretty loyal to the manga & anime.
The first half of the game heavily uses anime cinematics but halfwat it moves to ingame cinematics.

I can definitely recommend it for Berserk fans and somewhat to oldschool Musou fans.
It definitely was way better than i expected and a pleasant refresher for me storywise.

I only played it on easy, mostly for the story mode but you can go up to a high difficulty, grind levels and put your teeth heavily into the game.
There are extra DLC scenario's & an endless mode for those so inclined.

A heavy recommendation for Berserk fans.
A mild recommendation for hack and slash RPG fans who like a focus on story. Buy on discount!

Bought on discount while i liked it for a hack and slash game was disapointed by the lack of playable characters and the lack of 2-4 player co-op that makes hack and slash games re-playable not worth full price but i feel like i got my moneys worth of gameplay

Even with a discount, its a mid game but it was nice playing through the story up to the Millennium Falcon arc

The best way to experience Berserk will always be by reading the manga, no doubt about it. However, let me explain why this is, without question, the second-best way to enjoy it. Sure, the 1997 anime is a masterpiece in terms of animation, soundtrack, and character development. But there’s one major issue: it’s incomplete. The story only goes as far as the Eclipse, leaving you wanting so much more.

On the other hand, this game manages to capture the essence of Berserk brilliantly, and most importantly, it tells a full story. In fact, I’d even argue that it explains the plot much better and with a more consistent pace than the anime itself, even though the cutscenes are based on the more recent adaptation (which, if I’m not mistaken, was produced by Netflix). On that note, let me add a quick aside: the game is censored. Yes, scenes of violence, gore, and so on have been toned down quite a bit. If you want the full experience, I recommend heading over to Nexus Mods and downloading a patch to enjoy the game as it was truly meant to be played.

One thing I loved is the balance between gameplay and story. There’s a well-crafted equilibrium here. Now, I know some people complain that, aside from the cinematics and battles, there’s a lot of text and dialogue. But come on, this is Berserk. If there’s one thing the series needs, it’s deep storytelling, and the game does it good.

When it comes to gameplay, the standard missions (like large-scale battles between kingdoms or mercenaries storming castles) are incredibly well-executed. From the initial preparations, formations, and attacks, to breaking through barriers and assaulting fortresses… everything feels authentic. And that’s what matters most: it feels right.

Now, let’s talk about the bosses. Here’s an important tip: play the game on the hardest difficulty, Berserk mode. That’s where the game truly shines. Facing a boss on this difficulty is like playing Dark Souls. And I mean that, between the music, the enemy’s movements, and the constant need to dodge, attack, dodge again, and survive… It amplifies the Berserk experience tenfold. It’s challenging, sometimes frustrating, but incredibly rewarding.

As for the achievements, that was a whole other adventure. Getting 100% and platinum was a real challenge, and I won’t lie to you, it was tough. This isn’t one of those games where platinum trophies are handed out. Not at all. But that difficulty made it all the more satisfying. I had so much fun, it was incredibly rewarding, and in the end, I felt immensely proud. Finishing it left me even more invested in Berserk than I was before playing.

If you’re a Berserk fan, this game is a must-play. No excuses, you’ve got to try it. And if, like me, you’re not a die-hard fan but you enjoy it, I guarantee this game will make you appreciate Kentaro Miura’s work even more. It manages to convey what makes Berserk so unique: its essence, its depth, and its sheer brutality. In short, highly recommended!

La mejor manera de disfrutar Berserk siempre será leyendo el manga, eso está claro. Sin embargo, voy a fundamentar por qué esta es, sin lugar a dudas, la segunda mejor forma de consumirlo. Sí, es verdad que el anime del '97 es una obra maestra en términos de animación, banda sonora y desarrollo de personajes. Pero hay un problema importante: está incompleto. La historia se queda solo hasta el Eclipse, y ahí te dejan con ganas de mucho más.

Por el contrario, este juego logra captar la esencia de Berserk de una manera espectacular y, lo más importante, cuenta una historia completa. De hecho, me atrevería a decir que la explica mucho mejor y con un ritmo más sólido que el propio anime, aunque las cinemáticas estén basadas en el anime más reciente (que, si no me equivoco, fue producido por Netflix). Dicho sea de paso, aprovecho para hacer un paréntesis y aclarar que el juego está censurado. Sí, escenas de violencia, gore y demás están bastante suavizadas, así que, si querés la experiencia completa, te recomiendo que busques un parche en Nexus Mods. Ahí vas a poder disfrutar del juego como realmente se merece.

Algo que me encantó es el equilibrio que lograron entre la jugabilidad y la historia. Hay un balance muy bien logrado. Ahora, sé que algunos se quejan de que, más allá de las cinemáticas y los combates, hay mucho texto y diálogo. Pero, a ver, esto es Berserk. Si algo necesita la saga, es desarrollo profundo, y el juego lo hace muy bien.

En términos de jugabilidad, las misiones comunes (como las batallas campales entre reinos o mercenarios en castillos) están muy bien recreadas. Desde los preparativos iniciales, las formaciones, los ataques, hasta cómo destruyen las barreras y asaltan los castillos… todo se siente fiel al espíritu del anime. Y eso es lo más importante: se siente genial.

Ahora, hablemos de los bosses. Acá te digo algo importante: jugalo en la dificultad más difícil, que es la Berserk. Ahí es donde realmente el juego brilla. Enfrentarte a un boss en esta dificultad es como estar en un Dark Souls. Y no lo digo por decir: la música, los movimientos del enemigo, la necesidad de esquivar constantemente para atacar y no morir... Todo eso multiplica la esencia de Berserk por tres. Es un desafío intenso, frustrante por momentos, pero increíblemente divertido.

Lo de los logros fue un tema aparte. Platinearlo al 100% fue un verdadero desafío, y no te voy a mentir: fue difícil. No es de esos juegos donde el Platino te lo regalan, no señor. Pero esa dificultad hizo que fuera muchísimo más satisfactorio. Me divertí un montón, me costó horrores, pero al final la pasé bárbaro. Terminé con una sensación de orgullo enorme, y me dejó mucho más enganchado con Berserk de lo que estaba antes de jugarlo.

Si sos fan de Berserk, este juego es obligatorio. No hay excusas, tenés que jugarlo. Y si, como yo, no sos un fan acérrimo pero te gusta, te aseguro que este juego te va a hacer apreciar mucho más la obra de Kentaro Miura. Porque logra transmitir lo que hace de Berserk algo único: su esencia, su profundidad y su brutalidad. ¡Altamente recomendado!

Although I really enjoy the warriors/musou series, this has to be the worst one I played by far

The story itself is alright, good gameplay, but once you have to face the giant bosses, the gameplay falls off REAL bad, the giants are usually over powered and you have to try and grit through them

Not to mention that the post-game content also hits an absurd "skill" ceiling, throwing you against a boss and SEVERAL GIANTS, forcing you to spam berserk mode if you even want to be able to bear through it.

Mixed feelings, 7/10 on discount. Not worth full price. It's a good hack and slash for most part, but lacks the violence and impact that makes Berserk be Berserk. Don't play before reading the manga. However, it's a good game if you have not read the art for a while, and want to relive it in another point of view.

Good musou game from KoeiTecmo/Omega, however there are some flaws/issues:

There aren't as many details in fights as there are in the manga, because of the style of the game. Hack and slash focuses on big crowds, while the manga focused on stronger enemies, for most part. Something inspired in God of War, with quick time events, could have had more fidelity and feel more awesome.
Less gore, the game and videos used don't convey the same violence and impact, and thus feel more shallow and lack the emotional impact of many, many parts.
Plot presented in this game is more shallow and is full of gaps in important parts, compared to the manga.
Some enemies, like the "snake apostle" are, simply put, bad boss designs: stunlock, too many animations with immunity, can corner you and lock your character and your camera to a wall.

We need a REAL Berserk game

Even though the gameplay is not really my type, it's still enjoyable to me.
I mean.....it's Berserk. One of the best Anime/Manga in existence.
I would probably play a Berserk based farming simulator as well.

It's just alright. I'm not a berserk fan nor do i watch anime so i can't relate to those who play for the media appeal. The game lets you follow the story through in-game dialogue and 2d animated cutscenes, so it's there.
As a musou game its as basic as it gets but the combat is good, that's why we play these games no?
If you are planning on getting this for more berserk, this is a musou game first and foremost so i dont know if you'd find what you want with this game.

As a musou game it's quite barebones. As a Berserk game it's serviceable. Aside from the campaign, you get a sort of "free" mode where you can pick many characters (Zodd and Wyald included, you can transform too).
The only downside it has is the long loading screens but overall it's a fun game and works fine.

Only buy if you're a huge Berserk Fan & During sale.

decent game.. Im playing on Linux so zero of the cutscenes works at all while playing the game...which sucks. But even if it did then the gameplay is too easy and spammy. But I get it, it doesnt have a big budget or maybe the best devs so it is what it is. I still recommend it to hardcore fans if youve already played through the PS2 Berserk game.

Good game when you're fighting big crowds and going through most of the game. The Boss fights are definitely the worst parts. You will spend more time getting thrown around than fighting the boss itself.

It's a musou. You won't get much in terms of gameplay, but it's still engaging enough to have mindless fun. Definitely an edibles game.

The good part is, if you have trouble sitting down to watch an anime or reading a manga, this is one of the best out there and it's another way of experiencing some of the best themes, stories, characters and plot twists in all of anime.

Get this one on sale, it's worth it if you haven't read Berserk or if like me you simply adore it.

Only sad thing is you won't be seeing the incredible art of Kentaro Miura, but there are some panels unlocks.

I can't lie, this is a middle-tier musou (what a statement in itself) with all the baggage that comes with it. And even then it disappoints in some aspects, like the mediocre unlockable characters (and where they are even available), overall presentation quality (the Golden Age arc gets the movie cutscenes and even then they are censored at points, rest of the game has in-game dialogue boxes and now and then a CG render), lackluster and poor bossfights and general grinding required are traits that would make me very hesitant to recommend this game.

As a Berserk fan-wank and power fantasy? Good lord this one delivers.
So many "oh he did the thing!", multiple setpieces that are just letting you revisit notable chapters, and the absolute peak rampage that is acquiring the Beast of Darkness and just utterly annihilating absolutely everything in your path.

If you are a big to dedicated 'serk fan, you will get some joy out of it, and those are the people I do recommend this game to, on sale if possible. It is a repetitive, very shallow game overall until you try out the endless eclipse gamemode, and the decline in presentation after we reach Conviction arc (plus lack of Lost Children because the world is full of cowards) really hurt the overall experience. Might not be a dealbreaker but it's too hard to not notice.

To everyone else, or people who haven't read the manga, I'm much less enthusiastic to recommend this game. I feel that it does a poor job as a catchup, it's more of a "best of" galore.

If you really don't wanna read a book then just check out the TV Anime series or try out the great Millennium Falcon Holy War game with the fanpatch because that one is a much better game than this one, both mechanically and as a gateway into this amazing series.

but in all seriousness this game has a lot of heart and went out of it's way to adding Easter eggs interaction and went past where most would stop (past the golden age) but is held back by the musou style and censorship this is for berserk super fans only, you've read all of berserk from black swordsmen to elf island and beyond everyone else will just be confused or get a bad first interaction.

The Dynasty Warriors variety of anime game gotta be my favorite kind. The world does not need more bland arena fighters. Instead, give us a power fantasy. It's certainly not perfect. All of the problems you may have with a Dynasty Warriors style of game certainly still exists. The game lacks a lot of difficulty, even on higher difficulty modes. While you may not necessarily be looking for a game with some bite to it, this one is all gums. It will *always* feel good to rip through armies of enemies, but ultimately, that will only be engaging for so long. The game isn't too long, but it definitely starts to grow stale sooner than you would hope. That being said, if you have an interest in Berserk, or you just want to feel like Guts, this game is absolutely for you. Pick it up on sale.
