Yes, it's ultimately positive, but not without a really big caveat. The game has a lot of problems, things that seem pointless, etc. They're so numerous that I think it's more worthwhile for me just to say, "Buyer beware," especially if you want to play co-op. Upon starting the game multiple times, it always thought one of my controllers was two separate controllers; for that reason, I couldn't use my arcade stick. I had to resort to my gamepad.
In short, expect little from this one, and be prepared to refund it, in case you don't like it. I only bought it and played through the story mode because (a) it was super cheap, and (b) it's a shmup. After beating story mode on Nightmare difficulty (which wasn't as difficult as it sounds), I'm not sure that I'll ever return for another session; in fact, I doubt that I will... maybe for some achievements, but that's it.
Note: My recorded playtime does not accurately reflect my actual gametime. I left the game on for hours with the intention of coming back to it after running some errands--a futile attempt, since I had to restart the game anyway.

Toiled though it has in a state of semi-obscurity, Overdriven has been around the block. Released initially on the now defunct XBox Live Indie service, it’s seen a small flurry of updates that’s thrust it onto a number of platforms since. Still, Overdrive shows its age; it’s chunky and creaky and time has certainly taken its toll.
I think it’s biggest problem is that it outstays its welcome. Overdriven just doesn’t know when to call it quits. The levels all feel like they should be shorter and snappier; the boss fights that bookend each stage never really present anything interesting; they just present something big with a predictable attack pattern and then slap on a massive health bar for you to slowly chip away at. Overdriven rambles when it should be concise. For example, some levels you can’t just progress to by beating the levels previous, but you have to unlock by discovering hidden alien artifacts scattered around the stages in inconvenient corners. It means that if you’ve not stumbled across enough of these pointless McGuffins by the time you’ve beaten the first handful of levels, then back you go to play through them again and again until you find them. This is a bad idea. You there, reading this: should you even decide to make a scrolling shooter game, don’t do this.
You can also find a space cow hidden in each stage, but none of that makes any sense, so I’ve chosen to ignore it That’s not to say that Overdriven has nothing going for it. It is, if nothing else, a social creature, allowing up to four people to couch co-op, meaning that up to three other people can be sloshing around the screen, stealing all your power ups. Not that there’s a lot to steal; you can collect stars for delicious bonus points, but also to earn obligatory side satellite helpers, as well as limited power surges, screen-clearing bombs and shields. Shields play a big part of the game design because, underneath it all, Overdriven is soft and vulnerable without them. Rather than subscribe to the ‘eat one bullet and die routine’, you can soak up a little bit of punishment. So long as you catch bullets in your normal state, anyway; the game’s title derives from the ability to ‘overdrive’ your ship’s functions, doing away with your conventional assaults and spewing a massive, thick stream of plasma instead. It’s considerably more powerful than your standard means of attack, but cripples your other functions, halving your ship’s speed and devouring 80% of your health, meaning that a single bullet will probably be the end of you.

This game has more content and modes than most AAA games have nowadays.
Seriously though, its a great shmup that reminded me a lot of Astro Warrior from the SMS. I really like how the game isn't just focused on throwing hundreds of bullets on screen all the time- that gets old quick to me. Rather there's a lot of corridor sections where you must guide your ship correctly and time it right too. This helps break up the bullet hell part of it pretty well.
Shooting mechanics are fun, levels are well designed, bullet patterns good too. Definitely worth playing.
The game is not joking when it calls itself overdriven reloaded, it's crazy!
The developer promptly resolved an issue I had on Linux, definitely give this a try :)
very good game that becomes even more multiplayer.
-Enjoy shooter and puzzle game in one.
-Very good soundtrack !
-Good Graphics. With so much FX.
-replayability
-Tons of fun if you play with friends.
-Good gameplay.
to sum up: Fun for little price.
A sub standard shump that makes you pick up alien artifacts to unlock the next levels. If you didn't get them on the first time through you have to replay the level again and they aren't fun enough to replay them.
There are much better games of the same style out there for this price. Only buy it if it is rediculously cheap.

Something is missing here.
The game is too boring IMO and I can't say exactly why... feels empty.
Super fun 4-player co-op shooter. Story mode is somewhat short and controller support is buggy - ocassionaly one controller activates two ships. Kids love it.
At first glance looks like a western shmup android port, which it probably is. But honestly its so much more. Has some pretty cool effects and play style features also. Its so western looking and feeling but still definitely being bullet hell. Its a very unique fun game. As a shmup fan, I wasn't expecting to not like it, but I definitely wasn't expecting to like it this much. There is a lot of content and variety here, color me very impressed. About the only thing missing is cute anime characters, its almost more of a cutesy World Ignition but not set in space, well at least not in the early stages. Also very good controller support, pretty much anything should work with this title, thats huge in my books, especially when it comes to arcade style games. Even at regular price you will not feel slighted, especially if you already own about every great shmup on steam already, I'm only saying this because if you are patient and unsure you can buy some great titles for only a couple dollars.. This is only if you don't already have them.
This indie game is really fun to play again and again. The gameplay is excellent and responsive, it's challenging at times but never punishing. Boss encounters are nice too. I'd like to play multiplayer, I'm sure this will be fun as well.
The gameplay combined with a great soundtrack and great graphics makes the game addictive. I would have liked a couple of extra levels in the story mode though. Besides story/arcade modes, extra challenges (color reflex, the line, challenges) are worth playing and I enjoyed completing them. So, replay value is good.
I totally recommend this game!
