I was frustrated when I didnt see any tate options because is in gameplay, but I was so happy playing this game. I really wish for a sequel or an update of more diversed stages. Its really fun buying upgrades and unlocking new vehicles. Anyway, a bargain for this price.
Nope , play other alike games
OVERVIEW: It is not often that you see a Shmup based on real jet fighters, drones, bombers and so on and so forth. This title by OMNIDREAM CREATIONS delivers that with style. I was thoroughly amazed by the graphics but fearful it meant a big compromise in other areas. Gladly I already dismissed these worries in the first hours playing!
Pros
- Gameplay: Soft handling of the fighters makes successful bullet dodging feel evermore rewarding
- Soundtrack: Sound effects stand out to me as a hidden gem within the game
- Graphics: wonderful looking clouds and planes to unlock
- Bosses: Excellent learning curve provided for new and average level shmup players
- Replayability: Cleared the game on Easy and I am eager to try it again on other modes and with new aircrafts
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Bullet style: Basic but much better than the cluster"#$" I already saw on the genre
Cons
- The game is not long but that is an advantage in those days you don't have time for a major session of play
SUMMARY: Well above average Shmup that hits all the targets it needs to.
7.5/10 gaming scale with very generous price tag
Disclosure: After clearing the main campaign and, as I comeback for new sessions or new updates arise by developers, I intend to keep revising this review
The graphics is unappealing, the music is annoying, and this game's got nothing going on in the actual gameplay department.
Did anyone say Aero Fighters?
Story
There is no story whatsoever, just shoot and dodge.
Gameplay
It is pretty simple, like any Aero Fighters clone or any 90's shoot 'em up like that one it's just dodging and shooting non-stop, bullet hell style, no more no less.
Graphics
For a modern shooter, AWA really lacks on the graphics department, any 90's shoot 'em up looks miles better than AWA, it certainly feels uninspired and bland, it could have been more, much more.
Sound and Music
Same, music feels out of place and lacking impact when playing or facing the odds, repetitive and boring. For the most part the sound design is kind of decent but it doesn't add much, for such simple games I rather play some background music.
The Bad
Don't expect too much, what you see is what you get, bullet hell simple mechanics, it could have been more, risking better graphics, effects, enemies and originality, most stages feel the same, with a minimal variety of enemy fighters and planes.
Conclusion
AWA is repetitive, very, but for a clone of the classics it does the job, there are some cool looking fighters you can unlock along the gameplay, some challenging achievements and for a relaxing time when you don't want to stress yourself and just relax by shooting enemies and dodging their bullets, this game will give you that satisfaction, playing this for killing time is its main objective it also has controller support, that is a plus. For those simple arguments I recommend this.
This ain't Psikyo, Cave or Raizing!
This is a Snore Fest.
Boring Bullet Pattern, boring Level Design... nothing new under the Sun...
BUTT it's dirt Cheap... On a Sale... So your Mileage may vary...
Feels old school, I got this free and will say nice job it has some of the old school feel and this would be a lovely first for some players would recommend to anyone wanting a taste of the genre and i cant wait to see what the developers cook up next.
The graphics look nice and it plays pretty smooth.
An amazing game! I have finished it 3 times and still play it, nice sound tracks, smooth game-play, and graphics!
Nice little indie bullet hell SHMUP that may be rough around the edges, but the play is solid and that's what matters the most. The rough parts are the A/V, which is usually the case with budget games. The graphics are underwhelming but functional, it's the sound that I wish were better, both the music and the effects. There's just not enough sounds in the game, nor are they very distinct.
Play-wise, though, it's a real solid effort. It won't seem like bullet hell on early levels but believe me, it gets there, and the game has a nice upgrade system between levels that add to the strategy. 9 stages with 3 levels of difficulty, 8 different planes, upgrades for main gun, bombs, drones, plus a repair between levels option. A lot going on there for three bucks. 7/10
Hardly a bad game. It's a little janky around some corners. One menu messed my game up and forced me to restart. I could see the gameplay get stale pretty quickly. But it's not broken or unfun. Haven't seen a shmup using real planes like this, but it's fun, flashy, and functional.
Generic, but decent bullet hell - danmaku.
You fly one of a few unlockable jet fighters aircraft, and your goal is to take out your mission target, and, probably, do as much damage to the opposition as possible.
I have already reviewed the other game by the same studio, Vector Strain, but this game made progress since. While it suffers from the same issue (being generic as hell, especially with regards of shooting patterns), it tries to introduce two new mechanics.
First, game tries to add health bar, and has some success with it. While for the most part it feels just like one-hit shield, sometimes it could make difference.
Another mechanic is buying upgrades. For the most part, it is just replacement for pick-ups, but you could also buy two 'drones' which adds you a firepower and adds one more shield layer.
Sure thing, those mechanics might have been better, but I already had fun with the game as it is.
The game does not show you a hotspot, and this is not really convenient.
Soundtrack is okayish, though if you got used to Touhou games, you will not be impressed.
You could unlock several more aircraft as you complete levels, but only difference they offer is another shooting pattern.
Taken all into account, you should probably look for a different danmaku, but it probably worth buying this game on a sale anyway, it is pretty decent.
People who played this with a mouse and keyboard are bad and should feel bad.
This is a quick fun arcadey shmup
This is a type of game that I really enjoy, but lackluster graphics and controls make this a very poor game. If I compare to a mobile game like Sky Force, AWA isn't even in the same realm.
Very basic, straight forward shooter. Solid mechanics, moderate difficulty on standard levels. Nothing remarkable or unique, and I prefer their other stg Vector Strain more between the two. Still an ultimately enjoyable shooter with solid replay due to several unlockable ships that mix up the gameplay a bit with different spread and bomb types between them. Recommend for the value in particular. If you are buying one of the two, go with Ve ctor Strain first. It feels like the more passion project between the two. The assets and style are very similiar, but the added mechanics and superior level and ship design put it above in my opinion. Again though, hard not to recommend. You get a competent shooter with solid albeit not terriblly inspired gameplay. Fun game and good for the casual players on lower difficulty definitely. Minor upgrade/purchase system available to player between levels.
Bad.
Controls feel awful. Gameplay is not fun, has no energy or charm. Devs could have something cool if they polished this thing up. As it stands, I can't recommend this to anyone who likes shmups, even casually.
Terrible!
I read a couple reviews before i bought this game as it didnt look quite right to me. Those reviews said that it was smooth and fluid and really similar to its obvious inspiration in the 'Strikers' arcade series.
WRONG!!
This game is glitchy and controls terribly. I couldnt bring myself to finish the first level due to the player ship freeling heavy, unbalanced and anything but smooth.
I have a good enough specce'd PC to play most modern games and yet the frame rate of this game is jumpy and not what is expected from a fairly simple game.
Luckily i didnt pay the full price for this.
The most annoying this about this game is that it feels like it doesnt need much fixing to actually be good. My questio is why release a game that isnt finoished, the programmers obviously played it and didnt care.
The new 'TATE' mode doesnt actually work, it flips but in a widescreen fashion and doesnt actually scale to a full vertical aspect. this is one of their new features ???
One other review stated that ' All shmup fans MUST play this, Ignore this completely. If you are a casual gamer you might not notice the flawws. if you are a serious shooter fan then avoid at all costs, you will regret the purchase immediately.
lets hope its fixed in future.
decent graphics, uninspiring gameplay with loose controls. The plane feels sluggish and overweight :) not recommended for any shoot em up fans at any price. sorry.
I rate the game AWA (Aircraft Warfare Arcade) 3.5/5. Pretty good but don't expect a whole lot and it's a bit overpriced. Get it during a steam sale if you can.
This little game is very similar, both in terms of its style and gameplay to the game Vector Strain (I think made by the same game developer), except this looks like it may be an earlier attempt at such a "Schmup" kind of game and it is a lot easier than Vector Strain. This is, very basically, a Galaga-esq top-down view, vertically scrolling arcade sort of game which has distinct levels and the enemies fly in from the top of the game and then vanish again but otherwise come almost continuously (with a few short gaps). There are a LOT of these kind of games out there but if you develop a taste for them like I have you'll see that each of them is fairly unique though they all tend to be very challenging, if not completely frustrating. Also, some of these kind of games are much better than others. AWA is an exception however in that it's "easy" difficulty level really is actually pretty easy.
In AWA you play a little aircraft which fires an absurd amount of firepower at various enemies which fly in from the top of the screen. Your aircraft and the enemies are all based on real-world aircraft in terms of their visual design but don't handle remotely realistically (I'd imagine) and the enemies fire glowing, globe-like projectiles (as is normal for this genre) in various geometric patterns which you must avoid while firing continuously.
There are several levels, each with a nifty boss visually based again off of a real aircraft. There are many different aircraft you can unlock as you play and they are generally each more powerful than the last making it easier and easier to win the game as you unlock more and more of the aircraft. This game does give you some potential replayability though as you can try to win the game with each aircraft and there are 3 difficulty levels to choose from (easy, medium, hard). There are also several nifty-looking steam award icons to earn. There is no story but I always imagine that I am trying to shoot down aircraft which are controlled by the Skynet computer system from the Terminator series of movies in an attempt to avert the Judgement Day Nuclear War (or at least trying to lessen its severity).
The music is sort of a sort of techno-industrial style and consists of 2 songs. A menu song which might get irritating after a short while and a heavier, bass thumping main game song which would be good for a longer duration. Players will probably think the music is either OK or they might hate the music. I thought it was OK but not very memorable. The graphics are adequate and are colored in a sort of cool, cold blue-tint and feature rushing clouds, waves going by underneath and some amazingly sluggishly slow panning cities but the background/terrain was at least adequate if not pretty good throughout. The sound is generally muddy, boring and awful though.
To conclude, AWA would be a great game for people who are new to this genre as it helps illustrate what some of the basic possibilities this type of little game has and would be a good game to practice on before moving on to the other, more difficult (but very similar though usually more creative) games of this type which exist out there. The system requirements are low enough that this game should run well on anything and I encountered no bugs. AWA's intrinsic lack of creativity (particularly in terms of its enemy and level design) could be useful for those who might be confused by a more complex game and may be appreciated by those who want a game which may nostalgically remind them of late 1980's arcade games or certain console games from that time.
Overview:
+Good Schmup gameplay with no bugs and adequate music and okay graphics.
+/-Not very complex or creative.
+/-No particular story.
-Muddy, boring sound effects.
-For what it is, this game is too expensive when not on a special sale.
Something is not right. This game is too good! Smooth movement, easy recognizeable enemy bullets, awesome planes and upgrades. I've only played 57 minutes and already have most of the achievements including the 1CC challenge on HARD mode. I also got myself on no. 1 on the leaderboards with my second play.
Yep. I'm a No-Life.
About the game... It's great! Every Shoot'em Up player has to buy it.
Very buggy, couldnt progress past 2nd level because the game would lock up. Upon defeating the boss in level 2, it would completely freeze at the screen that shows how many enemies you killed. I had to tab out and back into the game to get the option to exit. When i restarted the game a selected a different aircraft my movement keys would not respond...i dont feel like messing with it anymore...
