  • An infinite amount of procedurally-generated levels, released every day.
  • Selectable color-blind friendly palette.
  • Relaxing soundtrack and sound effects to delve into the experience.

"Knight to E4: The Chess-tastrophe Chronicles – How LaCroissant Lost His Chess-tity (Feat. Sus-feratu, Shade, and a Grand Rage-Quit)"

Scene: The penthouse of Sebastian LaCroix, the overly pompous, perpetually agitated Prince of Los Angeles. What was meant to be a calm, dignified game night to promote Kindred solidarity has gone wildly off the rails. The game? Knights—a minimalist puzzle game that involves moving chess knights around a board. Easy in theory, but quickly frustrating in practice… much like vampire politics. What could possibly go wrong?

The room is packed with LA’s most prominent (and chaotic) vampires: LaCroix, Jeanette Voerman, Velvet Velour (VV), Smiling Jack, Nines Rodriguez, Beckett, Gary Golden, and Maximillian Strauss. It’s not just a board game; it’s a battlefield of egos, grudges, and endless sarcasm.

Jeanette: (lounging dramatically across a velvet chaise, swirling a glass of blood)
“So… this is Knights, huh? Looks a little… bare bones to me. Minimalism is so last century. I prefer my games with a bit more flair. Or at least more violence.”

Velvet Velour (VV): (examining the board)
“It does seem a bit… dry. I get the minimalist appeal, but there’s not much here. Move the knights, solve the puzzle, repeat. Where’s the story? Where’s the seduction?” (She pouts and sighs dramatically.) “It’s like a game made by someone who’s never even heard of foreplay.”

Smiling Jack: (grinning)
“Yeah, it’s got about as much personality as LaCroix’s speeches.”

LaCroix: (adjusting his tie and glaring)
“This is a game of strategy, intellect, and patience. Something most of you wouldn’t understand.”

Nines Rodriguez: (snorting)
“Patience, huh? Is that what you call sending the sheriff to do your dirty work every time things get tough?”

Jeanette: (laughing)
“Oh, don’t be mean, Nines. Maybe this is how LaCroix plans to prove his worth. By conquering the Knights board! One tiny, boring square at a time.”

Gary Golden: (leaning forward, his eerie grin visible even in the shadows)
“I don’t know, Jeanette. This game seems a bit… beyond him. After all, Knights is all about careful planning, and LaCroix’s plans tend to fall apart faster than a Nosferatu’s face in daylight.”

LaCroix: (fuming, moving a knight and immediately getting stuck in a loop)
“This is ridiculous. How is anyone supposed to solve this? There’s no rhyme or reason to it. It’s just endless trial and error!”

Beckett: (raising an eyebrow)
“Funny. That’s what I was thinking about your leadership strategy.”

Smiling Jack: (cackling)
“Zing! That’s a good one, Beckett.”

Velvet Velour (VV): (leaning in with a sly smile)
“He’s not wrong, though. This game is pretty trial-and-error heavy. You move one knight, and suddenly you’re stuck with no options. It’s not exactly rewarding.”

Strauss (Maximillian Strauss, the Tremere regent): (calmly adjusting his ornate robes)
“Indeed. The lack of meaningful progression or strategic depth is… disappointing. One would expect a puzzle game to encourage thoughtful planning, but Knights often reduces the player to aimless guesswork.”

Jeanette: (mock-gasping)
“Maxie! Was that… shade? Are you becoming fun? Should I be worried?”

Strauss: (with a slight smirk)
“Even a Tremere can recognize poor game design when he sees it.”

Nines Rodriguez:
“Yeah, it’s a bit of a mess. No real feedback, no way to know if you’re on the right track until you screw up. Kinda feels like trying to negotiate with the Camarilla.”

Jeanette:
“Or trying to find your way out of the Asylum after a night with me. Lots of trial, lots of error, and no clue how you got there in the first place.”

Gary Golden:
“Sounds like the devs took one look at the concept and said, ‘Let’s make it just frustrating enough to keep people from rage-quitting… unless they’re LaCroix, of course.”

LaCroix: (sputtering)
“I do not rage-quit!”

Smiling Jack: (grinning)
“Right, right. And I’m the freakin’ Pope.”

Jeanette:
“Come on, LaCroissant, we all know you’ve got a temper. It’s kind of cute, actually. Like a baby bat having a tantrum because it can’t find its binky.”

Velvet Velour:
“Or like a Ventrue who just found out their favorite vintage is out of stock.”

LaCroix: (standing up abruptly)
“That’s it! I refuse to participate in this farce any longer! This game is poorly designed, overly simplistic, and utterly beneath me!”

Beckett: (deadpan)
“Are we talking about the game or your leadership?”

The room erupts into laughter. Even Strauss chuckles quietly. LaCroix glares at them all, cape billowing dramatically as he turns to storm out.

Jeanette: (waving cheerfully)
“Bye, LaCroissant! Don’t let the chessboard hit you on the way out!”

Gary Golden:
“Or do. It might knock some sense into you.”

LaCroix slams the door behind him, leaving the rest of the Kindred in hysterics.

Nines Rodriguez:
“Man, I haven’t seen someone that salty since… well, the last time we talked to him.”

Smiling Jack:
“Guess he couldn’t handle the pressure. Maybe he needs to stick to what he’s good at.”

Beckett:
“Which is…?”

Smiling Jack:
“Runnin’ away, mostly.”

Velvet Velour: (laughing softly)
“To be fair, that is a valuable skill. For him.”

Strauss: (nodding thoughtfully)
“Indeed. Though it’s unlikely to win him any respect.”

Jeanette:
“Oh, who needs respect when you’ve got a fancy cape and a bad attitude? Let’s drink to LaCroissant and his epic rage-quit.”

Everyone: (raising glasses)
“To LaCroissant! Long may he flail!”

As the laughter dies down, the group returns to the game, now more interested in making jokes and throwing shade than actually solving any puzzles. Somewhere in the shadows, Gary Golden watches it all unfold with quiet amusement, already planning how he’s going to leak the whole embarrassing evening to the Nosferatu network.

Beckett: (shuffling the pieces on the board thoughtfully)
“You know… maybe the real puzzle isn’t the game itself. Maybe it’s how any of us manage to survive in this city with him in charge.”

Jeanette:
“Now that’s a puzzle nobody’s ever gonna solve.” (She grins, and somewhere far away, LaCroix is probably still screaming into an expensive pillow.)

It strikes rage in the heart of the players,
Might not even move another,
While a puzzle wrecks your head,
You’re stuck, lost, can’t recover.

And you know,
You know,
You know,
You know…

We all wonder what the devs planned,
On this frustrating little grid.
We are counting down the seconds,
Til we rage-quit like a kid.

And you know,
You know,
You know,
You know…

(Chorus)
It’s gonna take some time,
If we want to,
We could do what Knights do!
I can feel my brain fry every week.
If we fight through
All these moves that feel cruel,
Everything might change—but probably screw me!
We could do what Knights do.

(Verse 2)
You feel unworthy of the board,
You have forgotten how to win.
Every jump just locks you tighter,
In a loop that drags you in.

The brain of a genius,
Or a glutton for pain,
One part of you is quitting,
And the other screaming, “Why again?”

And you know,
You know,
You know,
You know…

(Chorus)
It’s gonna take some time,
If we want to,
We could do what Knights do!
I can feel my soul crack when I peek.
If we fight through
All the squares we can’t move,
Everything could change—but it’s bleak.
We could do what Knights do.

(Bridge)
Ohhh, we jump left, we jump right,
But we’re stuck again tonight!
Every move feels wrong and cold,
This board is cursed—or just pure old!

(Jeanette, yelling off-key:)
“Oh baby, I’ve lost my chess-tity!”

(Chorus – Slowed Down)
It’s gonna take some time,
If we want to,
We could do what Knights do.
I can feel my hope die as I tweak.
If we fight through
All these pointless damn moves,
Everything might change—but it’s bleak!
We could do what Knights do.

(Outro – Slowly Fading)
We could do what Knights do…
Or we could rage… rage and uninstall.
Yeah, we’ll rage and uninstall…
And LaCroissant… will lose… it all.

Most of my playtime was just me falling asleep on my bed while trying to play knights. You can't blame me; the music makes me sleepy xD. Overall, the game is good for the price. There are a decent number of levels, and the difficulty is manageable.

good for the price. its short from my experience so if you were really cheap you could refund it.

the puzzles are decent, some way too easy, others are difficult. many puzzles can be solved by moving pieces randomly. could use a hint system possibly? good for the price.

7/10

The game speaks for itself, and with the nature of an endless Daily Challenge mode, there's theoretically no end to the content. (or at least one within reason)

Wish the game had some sort of Level Editor / Workshop Support, but as a $1 game, it's worth the value if puzzle games are your interest.

Nice little puzzle game. Not much help in learning to better deal with knights in chess, but still a surpisingly enjoyable challenge on its own.

Super unique chess-themed puzzle game that has you moving knights to certain squares on boards of varying sizes.

There are both red and blue knights, that have allocated spots on the board they need to go, as well as yellow knights in later levels that serve no purpose but to get in your way. A level is completed when all blue knights are on blue squares, and red knights are on red squares.

There are 82 levels in total, divided into level packs named after the other chess pieces (Pawn, Rook, Bishop, Queen and King). Naturally, Pawn is the easiest pack whilst King is the most challenging. The boards also increase in size as the levels progress from a 3x3 all the way up to a 5x5.

Apart from the main levels, the game also offers daily levels, that can be unlocked after beating most main game levels. This offers another 75 puzzles that are randomly generated daily. This can sometimes lead to extremely easy puzzles whilst other times, it could be harder than any of the main game levels.

The music should also be mentioned. It's incredibly relaxing, a perfect fit for a game like this, and it makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

If you enjoy a unique puzzle experience, or you enjoy chess, then this is the game for you, it's very well worth its cheap price!

For chess players and puzzle solvers. Some of the 5 x 5 are very challenging, so skip them, and try the easier ones - usually they are the ones with fewest NPSs (non-playable squares).

It's very satisfying to beat a puzzle in this game. The sound effects and art style are simple and clean. There isn't much else to say except it's fun to go for all the achievements. If you like chess or puzzles buy it, it's cheap and good.
